Luca's POV
It took all that I had for my mouth not to drop open in shock as I took in the woman that had just slapped me.
My eyes turned red. I wrapped my hand around her throat, pinning her to the wall. “Who the fuck do you think you are Nazlynn?” I yelled out in rage.
Her eyes quickly watered up as she clawed against my arm, begging for release. “In my world, no one even dares to look at me the wrong way. I am the most feared mafia leader so do not think I would hesitate to put a bullet in your head because we're to get married.”
“There are a million women like you that I wouldn't even notice if you were switched during the wedding. You're my wife, not my equal. Get that through your thick skull.” I growled out, pushing her away from me.
Nazlynn staggered before regaining her balance some steps away from me.
I had not wrapped my hand tightly against her skin so it wouldn't leave a mark but now, I could see her skin turning red from where my fingertips had pressed down on.
“I hate you,” she whispered with a hoarse voice.
“I hate you so much,” she said again with her voice louder and firmer.
“That's your problem, Nazlynn. Grab your things, we're leaving, and if you as much as breathe a word about our arrangement to anyone, you'll have more reasons to hate me.”
I turned out of the room without a second glance, ignoring the pang that I felt at the last expression on her face.
“Dude, what the hell? Are you forcing her to marry you?” Mathias asked, popping out of nowhere the moment I came out of the room. “I don't think that's what Padre meant when he said you should get a wife.”
“I'll explain it to you some other time Mathias. I'm not in the mood right now. Speak to Mr Dan about him officiating the wedding, it's in five days. The only people present should be the ones in this house right now, it's a small gathering.”
“Luca…”
I cut him off with glowering eyes to which he gave a firm nod in understanding.
***Nazlynn’s POV***
The room Luca had left me in was a pretty looking bedroom. It was smaller than the one he put me in back at his house but it looked more comfortable. I let out a loud sigh of relief when I found a conjoining bathroom with a mirror.
I stared long and hard at my tear stained cheeks, like if I looked at them long enough, the tears would disappear.
I washed my face in the bathroom sink and patted my cheeks dry, willing the tears in my eyes to go back.
Luca was such a bastard. I can't believe he had tried to choke me.
A soft knock on the door cut me off my thoughts. “Nazlynn, are you in there? It's Jenna. Are you okay? Luca said you were feeling light-headed.”
I kissed my teeth, shaking my head in annoyance. How considerate of him to give an excuse for me.
“I'll be out in a second, thank you,” I called back out to her before plastering a fake smile on my face.
“Hey, how are you feeling? We have some painkillers in the kitchen if you're having a headache,” Jenna said with concern laced in her voice. I flashed her a smile in appreciation.
“Thank you Jenna, but I'm just gonna go home and get some rest,” I replied, holding in a gag when I called that prison cell my home.
We walked back to the living room where the majority of them were. “Let's go Nazlynn,” I heard Luca say as he brushed past me without looking at me.
“Congratulations on your wedding. I don't know why we haven't met until now but I'm glad you're coming into our large and messed up family because now we have all the time in the world to catch up,” she squealed.
Her excitement made me crack a smile, a genuine one this time.
“Thank you Jenna,” I said as I turned to leave.
Luca was already seated in the car when I stepped out of the house. There goes my dream of marrying a romantic man who opens doors and pulls chairs out for me.
He ignored me for the rest of the ride and the rest of the day. The next day, I didn't see him at breakfast or lunch and he completely ignored me at dinner. That's if we're not counting the order he gave before leaving the table.
“Be ready at ten, you'll go to the bridal store to get a dress,” he said, leaving an air of irritation behind him.
—
Just as Luca had said, I heard a knock on the door by 10 in the morning. I had put on a pair of sweatpants and a shirt to intentionally annoy Luca. He must be delusional if he thinks I'm going to let him have it easy.
I opened the door with a cocky smile but the face at the door made my smile drop.
“You're not Luca,” I deadpanned. I recognized him as one of the men who interrupted my attempt to escape, Gabriel.
The man looked at me from my feet to my head before looking back at my face. “Good morning ma'am, Mr Alessandro instructed me to take you to the bridal store.”
“Are you ready so we can leave?” He asked, glancing down at my sweatpants. I suddenly felt stupid in my outfit.
“Give me a minute and I'll be out,” I said, flashing him a wide smile before slamming the door at his face.
I quickly changed out of the sweatpants into a pair of snug jeans that made my ass look good. I wondered how they got clothes that were my perfect size.
The ‘bridal store’ was not at all a store but a freaking wedding complex. It even has a freaking elevator that takes you to the floor you want to go to.
“Welcome ma'am, or should I say, Mrs Alessandro,” a lady with extremely bright lipstick greeted with a giggle. I shot her a dry look making her straighten up. “I'm Julia and I will be attending to you today.”
“This way please,” she said, leading us into a section of bridal dresses.
I saw one that caught my eye on the way and I paused to run my fingers against the material. “Ma'am, this way,” Julia called out from ahead. I could detect irritation in her voice.
“I'll be right back with some options for you. In the meantime, please have some refreshments.”
I clenched my jaw tightly. “Think of Enzo, Nazlynn, you only have to endure this until you get Enzo and leave this area,” I said to myself under my breath.
Julia came back with a couple of extravagant looking dresses for me to try on. They were beautiful, but just not at all what I have envisioned to be my wedding.
My face must have betrayed my feelings because she asked. “Are they not to your liking ma'am? We can fit them so they enhance your beautiful curves for your husband to see.”
“No, not that. I just don't like any of these. Can I see another batch of selections?” I asked, settling the glass of champagne down.
“Did you see the dress I touched while I was walking here? Let me see that,” I said in a soft voice. I saw Julia's eyes flicker to Gabriel and then back to me.
“I'm afraid I can't do that ma'am, Mr Alessandro instructed that I have you choose from among these options,” Julia said in a shaky voice. Was she really that scared of Luca?
“Well, I'm not wearing any of these and you can tell Mr Alessandro that,” I said in a mocking tone. “He's going to have to force me into one of those dresses or he can wear them himself.”
“Why do you have to be difficult Nazlynn?” I heard a voice ask from behind me.
I turned around so fast that my neck almost got a whiplash.
Luca!
I tried not to let my fear show on my face when our eyes met.
“What a pleasant surprise, it's my fiancé,” I said with a fake smile plastered on my face.
“Since you're here, I'll just help Julia deliver the message to you. I'm not wearing any of those because I don't like them,” I folded my arms across my chest with defiance burning in my eyes.
Luca took three long strides forward and he was face to face with me. “I want to believe there's a reason why you're throwing a tantrum. You want my attention? Well here you go, now you have it,” he said in a low voice.
“I…” my voice cracked before I could get a solid statement out.
“Please just let me go, I don't want to marry you Luca. I can work for you if you want me to but please,” I begged, my lips quivering.
He looked at me with a dry look before turning back to face the other people in the room. “Leave us!”
“I don't have the time nor the strength for your games Nazlynn, your tears don't move me. This was your plan wasn't it? To create a scene in front of people and make them believe I was forcing you into this, am I right?” He asked, rage brewing beneath his eyes. He was wrong and I tried to show him that by shaking my head to every word he said. “I am having an extremely shitty day, you don't want to add to it,” he said in a controlled voice. “You will try on the dresses and make a choice. You will get married to me in three days, Nazlynn, that is not up for debate. Neither of us want your brother to get hurt, am I clear?” I froze as an image of Enzo getting shot on his way to his room in Atlanta filled my head. I bobbed my head in response. He signed, pressing his fingertips on his temple. “Can I please have my phone back?” I asked in a shaky voice. He gave me a frustrated look. “You'll have it after the wedding and it will be on some terms.” He took a seat on the armchair oppos
Luca didn't come back until early hours of the morning.I couldn't sleep after we got home because I was still feeling nauseous so I stayed in bed, tossing and turning. My throat felt clogged, crying didn't help because all that did was give me reddened eyes. Sighing, I pulled a robe over my silk night dress and waddled down the stairs to grab a glass of water. The person who selected the clothes in my room must be ignorant about the nature of I and Luca’s wedding because the choice of nightwears were clearly seductive.I was wearing the most decent looking one and even this was made out of a flimsy material that barely covered my ass.Pressing my fingertips on my temple, I tried to find comfort in the dark, empty and quiet. I heard the faint screech of the door before Luca's voice came floating through the air alongside a man whose voice I didn't recognise.I crouched down on the counter slightly even though I knew that he couldn't see me from where he was. “Is she asleep?” Luca a
Nazlynn’s POVThe sounds of birds chirping must have been what woke me up. My eyelids fluttered open and I winced at the bright light my eyes were met with. My consciousness slowly returned as memories of the previous day's events flooded back. The wedding, the allergic reaction, Luca carrying me...Luca.My hand instinctively reached out to the other side of the bed, expecting to find a warm body. Instead, my fingers met cold, crisp sheets. A twinge of disappointment settled in her chest and I cursed myself under my breath for thinking that way. Wait, did I sleep for a whole day? The thought made me jerk up in a frenzy. A sharp, searing pain shot through my head, eliciting a cry that echoed through the room."Signora! Are you alright?" A panicked voice called out. Footsteps hurried across the floor, and a moment later, a familiar woman appeared at my side."I'm fine, Maria," I grumbled, pressing my palm against my forehead in an attempt to null the pounding feeling. "Just a split
"Were you eavesdropping?" he snarled, his dark eyes flashing dangerously. I straightened, refusing to be intimidated. "Not at all, I just got here." Luca's jaw clenched, a muscle ticking in his cheek. "What are you doing here Nazlynn?" "Looking for you, actually," I replied, crossing her arms across my chest. "Thought you might want to check on your bride after her near-death experience. Talk about delusional." Something flickered in Luca's eyes…guilt, perhaps? Then his expression hardened again. "You seemed fine to me." "No thanks to you," I shot back. "What kind of ‘husband’ doesn't even…” "The kind who has a business to run," Luca interrupted coldly. "In case you've forgotten, this isn't a real marriage and I couldn't care any less about you." The words stung more than I cared to admit. “That’s a little hard to forget when you're treated like a piece of furniture." Luca's eyes narrowed. "What do you want, Nazlynn?" "My phone, you promised to give it back after the wedding,
“Hello? Is there anybody on the line?” Enzo’s soft voice said again. It seemed like it had been months since I last heard his voice.“I think it's a wrong number,” I heard him say in a low voice to someone.Just when I felt like he was going to end the call, I opened my mouth to speak. “Enzo, it's me.”“Nazlynn?” He said, sounding shocked. “Sis where have you been? I have been calling and texting since forever, I even had someone check the house for me. What's up, is everything alright?” He asked, concerned. My breath hitched in my throat and I wondered what they found when they got to my house. My father, halfway dead or drunk, or his blood stains across the floor with no body to trace it to. “I…”“You know what? That's in the past, did you change your number? I haven't received a call from this number before?” I could picture him furrowing his eyebrows in confusion the way he would do over a video call. “I lost my phone,” I managed to croak out. There was a pause for a few secon
“Please Luca, I beg you,” the man pleaded, going down on his knees. “I had no choice, it was only a moment of desperation.”“Did I give you permission to speak?” Luca asked. The thick layer of rage beneath his voice was unrecognizable, it almost threw me off balance.Luca picked up a small knife from the table behind him, “I'm sure most of you know Peter, well, Peter has been selling illegal drugs using my business as a front.” Luca announced to the rest of us.If this were any other situation, people would begin to murmur after that announcement but the pin drop silence was deafening. “Luca, don't do this please. My wife! I have kids at home, you've met my kids.”“You should have thought about your family before deciding to act smart, Peter.” With a flick of his hand, Luca threw the knife into Peter's neck, missing his jugular by just a thread. It was so precise that it almost looked intentional.Peter's hand held on to the knife as blood spilled out of the wound. He coughed, splat
I didn't believe Luca, of course. He wouldn't actually do anything to hurt Enzo. But I couldn't help but start to panic when I tried calling Enzo two different times that day and the call went straight to voicemail.I was walking around absentmindedly to distract myself when I bumped into someone some time towards evening.“Nazlynn,” he called out when I walked past him after muttering an apology. I turned back.“Mathias? I'm sorry, I didn't notice you pass by. How are you?” I asked, giving him a forced smile.“I'm alright, the twins send their regards. They told me to pass across an invite to the house some time next week as well,” he said, guiding me to a side of the long hallway. I thought for a little bit before nodding when I remembered that there was nothing to do here anyways. “Are you okay? You look a little out of it,” he placed a hand on my forehead. “Luca mentioned the allergy incident of yesterday, do you perhaps need to see a doctor?”I pulled his hand off my head with
“Not all that good in the kitchen my ass,” Elena moaned as she stuffed her mouth with more cookies. Luckily, I was standing close enough to catch what she said.I laughed shyly. “That good huh?”“Good? Girl this is freaking amazing, José couldn't beat this even if he tried,” Jenna gushed, sniffing another piece before wolfing it down.“Well ouch, I feel offended Jenna,” a new voice joined in as the two boys walked in through the balcony.“Oh my love, you know I love you and I love your cookies but you have to try one of these,” Jenna said, walking towards them with two pieces in hand. They both greeted me before taking a piece each. I didn't miss the look of satisfaction on both their faces as they bit into it, nodding their heads.“I really can't beat that,” José said with a boyish grin before taking a few more pieces as they left the kitchen.Jenna piled the cookies on a plate while I sat and watched her. Elena slid a medium sized glass jar in my direction. “You should take some fo
