CHAPTER THREE

Isabelle's heart accelerated in her chest when she saw the fearful Alpha beside her, sitting in the backseat with her. To add more to his fearsome reputation, he was rumored to be cursed, but no one knew what it was.

What got her tongue-tied was the way his dark hair tousled back to adorn his beautiful face.

Handsome was an understatement; he looked so unreal. More like a fictional character but that's not true.

Women flock toward him and he is the dream guy of almost every young lady. His firm pink lips were pressed together and his chiseled, hard jaw was shaved clean.

He tilted his head to look at Isabelle, and she averted her gaze instantly. His emerald green eyes caught her interest and she swallowed the lump in the back of her throat.

“Drive the car to the pack," he commanded.

The car engine was started and the car hit the tiled road.

None of them talked with each other, but Isabelle knew Gabriel was disgusted with her.

Right now, she just wishes to die.

Just yesterday, she was busy discussing how she was going to rule her pack members alongside her mate.

She had laughed, smiled, and fooled around but today...

Today, she wasn't sure if killing herself would make the suffering end.

“You can't die yet, Isabelle," Isabelle murmured with her eyes closed. Her hand held the hem of the dress she wore as she tried to take a deep breath.

“Everything will be fine, Isabelle." But she wasn't sure anymore.

She was sitting in the same car with her parents's murder, yet she couldn't do anything. She couldn't move or try to ask Gabriel why he would do that.

Why would he buy her?

Or was he planning to make a mockery of her?

”I killed her parents, and now I bought her as a slave" These thoughts lingered at the back of her mind as she silently looked at the street.

It was a long ride and Isabelle's brain was calculating what to do. She couldn't think of anything reasonable and this broke her heart more.

The car stopped in front of a huge gate. A man opened the gate to let the cat drive in.

Gabriel was the one who got out of the car first. Some men rushed toward him to welcome him back.

He caressed his jaw and faced one of the men. 

“Let her join the maids in doing chores, and make sure you give her a very hard job. Let's see how much she will have to keep in to talk," Gabriel declared to his Beta.

The Beta tilted his head to see who the alpha was talking about.

“Isn't she the Luna of the Moon Cave pack? She looked familiar."

Isabelle's eyes were piqued with interest when she heard their words. They were talking about her family, so she was right.

Isabelle felt something stirred in her heart. She suddenly has a second thought.

“We may not be able to produce an heir but you are our joy, Isabelle. You will turn out to be great even when you are female," her father's voice resonated in her ear. It was during the time she just clocked 18. 

The words uttered by then had become a source of energy for her. She clenched her fist when the car door was pulled open.

A guard dragged her out, holding her clothes and his hand brushed Isabelle's wounded back.

She wanted to scream but she steeled herself. She couldn't appear weak again for the first time.

“I will serve everyone according to his portion," Isabella said with gritted teeth.

She threw one last look at Gabriel Phoenix before facing ahead of her again.

Isabella was pushed into a room with two other girls inside.

The guards came in and untied the chain from her hand.

“Get her to the field and let her pull out some of the weeds outside. She must not leave until it's time for dinner." The guard instructed the girls and they nodded their heads in unison.

Isabelle tried to stand up from the floor but she kept falling back down.

“Hey, stand up and follow me," the petite girl said as she rested her hand on her waist.

“Look at you, looking all dirty and weak. If you don't work, you won't eat, girl. Stand up now!"

If it was yesterday, Isabelle would have cautioned the girl to show some respect but now there was nothing she could do, and she wasn't going to cry.

She already has a motive to keep leaving.

Revenge!

This is the only thing that kept Isabelle moving. She has tasted what life is and it was time to face reality.

Isabelle stood up and faced the girl, asking, ”Where is the field?"

“Good girl. You must maintain that energy till the end and who knows, the Alpha might take a liking to you if you are hardworking. He might bed you if you are lucky," the girl blabbered on. 

Isabelle cringed upon hearing this. That was the last thing she would do however, she planned her revenge and put it into action.

“I think you should let her be. That's Okay" The slim maid cautioned the petite girl.

"Okay, follow me."

Gabriel sat on the plush cushions in his room while he stirred the glass of wine he was holding. His Beta just asked him a question and he was finding it hard to answer.

“Why would he buy her when everyone thought you killed her parents? And I'm sure she is aware of that."

“Her case is different. I found out something interesting about her." Gabriel tilted his head to the side with a faint smile on his lips.

“She was rejected by her mate for committing a grave crime. She should be grateful because I saved her life," Gabriel tsk and this irks his Beta a little.

He knew Alpha Gabriel would never do anything without a reason. The alpha has always been a meticulous man.

“I guess you are telling me not to pry too much. I will have to do that to obey your command. But if she poses a threat in the future, I won't hesitate to make her pay.

“There is nothing she would be able to do. Have her do chores."

“Alright Alpha,"

The moon has already cast its warm glow over the earth. Thanks to the moonlight, Isabelle was able to pull out a few weeds, but she was not close to a quarter of the field.

She hasn't eaten anything since she woke up, and she has not tasted any water. She was damn thirsty but the maid assigned to her was not even there.

She was getting weaker with each passing second but she kept going.

The bell rang for every servant in the castle to come in, but someone was missing.

“Where is the girl sent here today?" Alpha Gabriel's voice reverberated through the servant's quarters wall and they cowered in fear.

“Sh...She is the fie.. field" the petite girl stuttered, and all hell broke loose.

“Take me there right now! "
