Chapter 3: I'm cutting ties with you.
"So you know who the man here is?" Mr Smith suddenly asked and Ava's hand froze on the teacup. She didn't feel like eating anything since she trusted no one in the Smith family. She always got the food done by herself since she didn't want to be poisoned. She raised her head slowly and her eyes met with Mr Smith's "No, I don't." She replied curtly. Her voice was a little cold and distant. "He is Mr Andrew. The owner of AN corporation. I guess you know him." He added, and Ava directed her gaze at the man. She did not look at him earlier, so she didn't know who she was even sitting with. As her eyes saw the man, her eyes widened in in shock. He turned out to be someone she knew. Everyone was curious about him. He is a notorious criminal who has different kinds of crime records. Everyone seems to know who Andrew is. He is always known for doing many illegal things and is a bloodthirsty man. Ava wondered what a man like him was doing here in the Smith family house. "Won't you greet him?" Mrs Smith asked with a raised brow. She gave her a warning glare. Secretly telling her not to mess anything up. "Hello." She greeted. She sounded so cold and distant. It was as if she was an enemy of Mr. Andrew. "Is that how to greet properly? Don't you know how to greet your elderly people?" Mr Andrew said with a low growl, but Andrew interrupted him. "Hell no, don't scold her. She will get used to it in the future," Mr Andrew said. Revealing his dirty brown teeth Ava felt nothing at that moment but disgust. "May I know the meaning of the future you mean here?" She asked with a raised brow. And fear was written all over her face, but she still managed to keep calm."You are getting married to Mr Andrew tomorrow. Can you see how much we love you? We love you so much and want the best for you. We see that Mr. Andrew is the one for you. Don't worry. He will take good care of you and make you feel like the luckiest girl on earth. You are just too lucky. Many people are dying to be in your position.
Ava widened her eyes in disbelief. She seemed to be in a daze for a moment and found it hard to believe what was going on. Mr Andrew suddenly caressed her cheek, but she was quick to turn her head sideways. His chuckle could be heard.
"I love the shy type. She seems to be one. I love her like that. You must come early tomorrow so we can get our marriage certificate. I can't wait to have a beauty like this beside me." He said with a big smile on his face "I will take my leave now. See you tomorrow sweetheart." With that, he made his way to the door and walked out of the house.
Ava kept her gaze on the chubby old man till she was out of sight. She returned her gaze to the annoying couple beside her. "What is going on, please? Can someone please explain what is going on to me?" She asked, furrowing her brow. Her stomach was boiling with anger, but she still managed to act calm.
"Our business has been facing a crisis lately and Mr Andrew here is ready to give us ten million dollars. But in return, he will have to marry you. It was like a golden chance for us, and we took it without a second thought. This is also a golden chance for you. You will get to live an extravagant life and enjoy luxury. We have been taking care of you since you were a child, so it's time for you to also repay us. If we did not pick you up from the dirt, do you think you would still be alive? You will have been long dead so you should be grateful to us. " Mr Smith scoffed.
Ava clenched the glass cup in her hand with so much hatred. She was afraid the cup would break if she continued to apply pressure on it.
"Can you please explain what is going on here? I don't understand you guys. What do you mean by my bride price has been paid? And fine. You adopted me. But was it willingly? If not for Grandmother Smith, I'm sure I would not be here today. Even if I wanted to repay you, how can I do that by marrying an old man who is also a criminal?" She said through her gritted teeth, trying her best not to explode in anger. She was so angry at that moment. She had always been an obedient daughter to them and would do whatever they said with the hope that they would like her one day. But no, they always find fault in everything she does. So now is the time to stop all this crap and wake up to reality. They will never like her since she's just their adoptive daughter. While Lilly will always be the best child in their eyes.
"I will not marry that man. Whether you like it or not. I'm cutting ties with you. We have nothing to do with each other again. If you like the man so much, you can let your daughter marry him". She scoffed in anger and grabbed her bag. Before she could take a step forward. The door flew open and Henry entered with Lily in his arms. They were both cuddling each other with Lily's neck covered with hickeys.Ava widened her eyes in shock, and she found it hard to believe her eyes. Her boyfriend and her forster sister. The hickeys on Lily's neck explain it all. She doesn't need to guess anything again.
Lily flashed a mocking smile, but her eyes changed instantly when her eyes met with her parents. Her face turned teary as if she was being bullied.
Chapter 150: Aurora's Disappointment Manuel took the stairs two at a time until he was able to get a hold of his sister. She swatted his arm away from her, sniffing in loudly. He grabbed her tighter this time and spun her around until she was facing him. Tears ran down her face freely and his heart broke on seeing his sister looking pale and hurt. He had made a promise to his late mother to always protect her and yet, he was making her cry. His mother would turn in her grave for this. "I am so sorry." He apologized, his eyes brimming with tears. "What were you trying to do? Kill a man? What was that supposed to achieve?" Her cries cut deep into his heart. His palm covered her lips as he cooed her to be quiet. "Shh! Don't yell. I am sorry. I promise I will never do that again."Aurora stared into her brother's eyes and couldn't tell if she believed him or not. Something about him had changed. He was no longer that sweet, young, unassuming big brother man she had looked up to for pr
Chapter 149:Lost Memory?"What do you mean by he lost his memory?" Manuel yelled as his sister explained the events that occurred today at the hospital."I don't understand. I am not a doctor, I do not have a scientific explanation for that. But I do have a strong feeling that what happened to him is a result of the kick you had given him to knock him out." She hissed at her brother. "What? That dude would have gotten us caught if I hadn't done what I had done earlier. Gosh, I had so many plans for when he woke up." He groaned in annoyance."Hey, calm down, I do not know you to be this angry. Anyway, what plans did you have?" Her curiosity got the best of her. "Money, sis! That guy was supposed to be our ticket out of this miserable life we are living." He hissed. Aurora stared at her brother in confusion wondering what he was talking about."I do not get you. How is he the ticket out of this?" She waved at their shabby apartment without furniture. She may not like how their apartm
Chapter 148:Damien Awakes.Aurora walked into the hospital ward clutching a thermos flask. She couldn't explain why, but she had felt so convinced to pack food for the unconscious man.It has been days, and he has yet to come out of his coma. The doctors were not saying anything anything positive about his situation, but she was certain he would wake up someday, like today. Her smile was wide as she sat beside him. His body was stoic and unmoving, just like the first time they had brought him here. He had not moved an inch since, but she had watched him change."Good morning, big friend." She beamed widely as she dropped the flask on the stand where stuffs were kept."I brought lunch today. I hope you would be hungry about to wake up and eat some." She announced with a grin, acting as though he could hear her. Her brother had fought vehemently against her doing this, but she didn't care. The man was human like her and he deserved to be communicated to in the most lovely way possible.
Chapter 147:You Bitch!"What the hell are you doing in my office?" Ava barked out at her step-sister. Lily jumped down from the table, her hands slipping off her husband's neck like fish gliding through water. She was shocked by the voice she heard, not because it sounded different, but because she didn't expect it. Ava ought to be at the police station. Her spies in the force had assured her Ava was taken and would not be out for a very long time. The fact that Damien wasn't here to help her out made her believe that. "What are you doing here?" Lily asked with a frown on her lips. "I should be the one asking that question. Who the hell do you think You are to come in here and start kissing your husband in my office?" Lily rolled her eyes and strolled from behind the table. "To be clear, this office is mine and you were only able to stay in it for a while because your husband had stolen it for you."Ava grated her teeth on hearing this. Damien may not be here, but it didn't mean s
Chapter 146: Don’t You Ever Accuse Me"Am I going to be next?" Sophia stormed the balcony where Ava was deep in thought. Her kind was still reeling from the image of Regina rolling on the ground in pain until she finally went still and died. The news of her death was out, and as usual, a lot of speculations were already flying about. "What are you talking about?" Ava asked, pretending not to know what was being talked about. "I am talking about the hit you made on Regina. First, it was my brother and now her. Who next? Me?" Sophia yelled.Ava jumped from her lounge chair with fire in her eyes. She had lost her husband and ought to be the most hurt in this whole scenario, but everyone kept on blaming her for things she knew nothing about. She wasn't at fault for anything, and she wouldn't appreciate it if she was accused of what she wasn't responsible for one more time. "Don't you ever accuse me of Damien's murder ever again. I didn't kill Regina and I have no reason to. But if you
Chapter 145: Damien’s SeedAva stared at the latest result and this time around, a smile was plastered on her face. She had never envisioned it and even though she had met the news with mixed feelings earlier on, she was now certain that the universe wasn't as unfair to her as she thought it was.Damien may have been unfairly taken away from her, but a part of him still lived on in her. She was pregnant for his child, their child, and to her, that was the best legacy she could give him. He would never forgive her if she killed herself to be with him. She has to stay back and take care of the child growing in her womb. Suddenly, her heart was filled with gratitude at the man who had saved her at the dock. If her memory served her right, this was the second time he was saving her; the first one being at the party where she was almost poisoned. He seemed to be at the right places at the right time. Was he her guardian angel? Had Damien sent him to her to keep her safe? She wondered and
