“But ma… you said she was welcome. Her mother was also one of us,” Clara argued.
“That was her mother, Clara. She’s more dangerous than you can ever imagine,” she retorted.
“But you don’t know that yet, you can’t just treat her like a dog,” Clara insisted.
“Who’s she, Clara?” I managed to ask.
“She’s Mrs. Hunter, her family leads the institute,” Clara yelled.
“We are not treating her like a dog, Clara, we are simply putting her where she belongs for now,” Mrs. Hunter retorted.
“She doesn’t belong in a cage, and you know it,” Clara responded.
“I have lived hundreds of years, and not even once have I made a wrong choice, so you have to trust me on this one too. I won’t do anything to cause trouble to the institute my family governs. Melonie here is the daughter of our enemy, Warrick Aeron…you don’t know how dangerous she is,” Mrs. Hunter replied, and with that, she turned away without looking back, with men pulling me behind her.
Rough hands grabbed my arms, holding me in a vice-like grip. I was dragged away, unable to resist. I caught a glimpse of my captors’ faces, their eyes cold and unforgiving. I knew I was in grave danger.
I was thrown into a dark, damp cell, the door slamming shut behind me. I heard the sound of locks clicking into place, trapping me inside. I was alone with no way out.
As the hours passed, I heard footsteps outside my cell, the sound of voices whispering in hushed tones. I knew I had to be careful, that one misstep could mean disaster. I waited, my heart pounding in my chest, wondering what lay ahead.
“Four walls, no windows, and a door that wouldn’t budge – my world was shrunk into a suffocating cage.
“If I don’t belong in the human world, nor this world…then where exactly do I belong?” I thought to myself, weeping with a ferocity that seemed to consume me as if my tears were the only thing that could express the depth of my sorrow.
My eyes suddenly fled open, I looked around in haste and then remembered I had been locked up a night ago.
Soon, I heard a twist on the doorknob, and Mrs. Hunter, along with some men, walked in.
Gawking at her, she threw a smile at me which just wasn’t recommended. I sat there frowning.
“I’m sorry you have to be locked up in such a cozy place,” Mrs. Hunter blurted out.
“We are simply taking safety precautions,” she added.
“By locking me up?” I asked, pissed.
“I’m sorry Melonie, we are not your enemy, this is where your mother belongs, and so do you,” She declared.
“You are making yourself my enemy, families wouldn’t lock themselves up,” I retorted, sending her a sad smile.
“I need to know everything about my father,” I demanded.
“I’m not sure whether or not I should be the one to tell you that,” Mrs. Hunter responded firmly.
“Would you prefer I find out from my father himself? Warrick Aeron, right?” I asked, sarcastically.
“Not advisable, he wants you dead,” she stated.
“Okay… why? Why does my father fucking want me dead? There must be a reason, I want a reason, I…I need a reason,” I yelled in agony.
“I don’t know Melonie, I thought about it too. Why a father would want his own daughter dead is mysterious to me,” She blurted out, truthfully.
“Okay…what if he doesn’t want me dead? What if he’s searching for me?” I reasoned out loud.
“We don’t know that, Melonie,” she retorted.
“Well, let us find out,” I protested.
“No,” Mrs. Hunter declared.
“Why?” I argued in fury.
“Are you stupid, Melonie? He sent his men and attacked your adopted mother and her friend just to get to you, and you think it’s an informal greeting to his beloved daughter? If for nothing, know that only you are a threat to his strength. For years, we fought a battle with Warrick Aeron but couldn’t win. Thousands of innocent people in my realm died from his war, and now we only have the institute and the magical wars surrounding it to keep us safe. I won’t let you bring us more trouble. If Warrick Aeron finds out we have his daughter, he is going to find a way in and turn this place upside down. We are already in danger by letting you in, Melonie. Please don’t play with our lives,” Mrs. Hunter yelled out.
“You brought me here on your own accord, I told your men to let me go, but they refused…so this is your problem to deal with,” I retorted, spanking her with the same energy.
“If not for our help, you’d be long dead by now,” Mrs. Hunter responded.
“Then let me go and die. I’ll be far away from your realm, so you don’t have to worry about your safety. If I am truly as powerful as you claim, then I can take care of myself,” I replied.
“You are not even aware of what you can do yet, Melonie,” Mrs. Hunter calmly stated.
“I’ll have to find out,” I retorted.
“I’m sorry, but we can’t risk it,” she stated, firmly.
“You don’t own me,” I said, staring at her in disagreement.
“But we need you, we need you here, Melonie. We have a bigger threat than your father, Warrick Aeron. Your mother’s people are dying, and only you can save us,” Mrs. Hunter pleaded.
“I-I don’t understand,” I stammered, confused.
“For months now, we have been battling with a dark walker. It blends into the shadows so no one can see nor fight it. We are hoping you’ll be able to see and fight it. Melonie, a lot of your mother’s family has died,” she blurted out.
“If I heard you clearly, you just stated that the only reason you brought me here is to use me to solve your own problem?” I asked to be sure while struggling to be calm.
“Melonie…” she called.
“D-don’t call my name. I don’t even know if I can trust you,” I stated.
I felt like a pawn in their game of power, forced to fight for a cause that wasn’t mine, but to serve their selfish desires.
I felt manipulated, with lies and half-truths, using my conviction to fuel their own agenda, without regard for the cost to my soul.
“So, I’m nothing but a tool, a means to an end, wielded by those who cared little for the battle’s true cost, only for their own gain…isn’t it?” I asked sadly.
“Don’t think of it that way, Melonie, you are our savor…a means of a change,” she corrected.
“Spare me that nonsense. I am a shadow to myself, I suddenly don’t know who I am and just when I want to find out, you lock me up because you want to use me as a tool?” I stated, disappointed.
“I need to leave,” I blurted out.
“And where would you go?” She asked, walking closer.
“To my father, I’d rather die finding out what I am than stay in this hole fighting for you,” I responded.
“I’m sorry, I can’t let you do that,” Mrs. Hunter stated firmly.
“What makes you think you can stop me?” I asked and smirked.
“You will get yourself killed, Melonie. You really shouldn’t joke with Warrick Aeron, regardless of the fact that he is your father. I’m aware of what he is capable of more than you know,” she protested.
“I’m tired of being in the dark,” I retorted.
“If you want answers, you will find them with time, you need to calm down,” she reasoned out.
“I’m sorry, you can't talk me out of this,” I replied.
“If I can’t stop you from stupidly killing yourself, then the door will. It was created specifically for powerful beings like you,” she declared with a smile.
“Even your strong door can’t stop me," I retorted, standing tall, my presence commanding attention, as I wielded my strength with precision and grace.
My eyes blazed with an inner fire, illuminating the path ahead, as I walked with a confidence that inspired awe. With my mare thought, I could move mountains, shatter obstacles, and bend reality to my whim, my power limitless and boundless.
With a snap, I melted down the huge door and stormed out like a hungry bear released to consume his meal, ready to take down anyone that tries to stop me.
“Yes!!! I am Melonie, the nightmare.”
MELONIE'S POV:I stormed out persistently, with an unstoppable force. Nobody dared to walk closer, talk me out of it, or stop me. They all stood far away from me, shivering in fear like a cold chicken.Everything I needed and wanted to know; I was ready to find out… alone! I was determined, that if my father wanted me dead, then let him kill me now.Realizing I have such extreme powers, made me even more eager to get into trouble.Suddenly, a hand gripped my arm, firm. I looked back doubtfully and got the shock of my life. My best friend stood there, gawking at me fearlessly.“Arlo?” I called out, surprised.“Melonie,” he responded calmly.I jingle my head doubtfully, “Wh - what are you doing here?” I stammered.“I'm here to stop you from making the biggest mistake of your life Melonie,” he blurted out firmly.I blinked repeatedly, still not getting it, “That's not what I mean. You are human, you cannot be in this world to begin with,” I retorted positively.“But I am here. I'm not hu
MELONIE'S POV:I grabbed Clara by the hand, “let's go in,” I stated and she smiled at me warmly.Arlo also came forward, “Where are you going?” He asked curiously.“Where else, dummy? Should I remain out here? I was told this whole building was mine. And please, stop monitoring me already, it's not like I can leave this place,” I retorted, rolling my eyes.“Hey!” Arwan called and I froze, “We begin training tomorrow morning, get ready,” he announced firmly.“Don't tell me what to do, you heartless kidnapper,” I growled and walked away, dragging Clara along. We got in and I picked my room, Clara also picked hers and so did Arlo and Arwan.Arwan's room was opposite mine, Clara's was beside and Arlo's was opposite Clara's.“Oh my God! I've never had a room since I was born here,” Clara Swooned delightfully.I looked at my well-prepared room; I was satisfied with it, but I still wasn't satisfied with the new, strange world. We went down for dinner and after dinner, I stormed straight to my
MELONIE'S POV:I gawked at him, and he gawked back, “Do you understand Melonie?” He repeated with a serious face, and I calmly nodded in response. He has high cheekbones, a strong jawline and a small button nose. His piercing eyes spackle with warmth and kindness, fringed with thick lashes that add to his allure. His hair, is thick, dark and messy, with a subtle wave that adds texture and depth. He has broad shoulders, a toned physique and a tall athletic build that commands attention. He excludes confidence and self-assurance without being arrogant or entitled. He is charismatic and charming, with a magnetic presence that draws people in. Accomplice with an angelic and baby-looking face and soft, white skin that would make you want to tame him.I stared at his bottom lip that was calling for my attention and I quickly looked away, my cheeks turning red, “You are too close,” I muttered. He pushed me away, clearing his throat to ease the awkward atmosphere. “All I'm saying is, from now
MELONIE'S POV:Arwan's statement replayed in my head, my giant fear stood tall, my heart beating in horror. If Mrs. Hunter dies, I'm in trouble, if I fight back, I'm still in trouble.“Fuck this!” I murmured, biting my lips, “What do I do?”I paced around the room, my mind was a jumble of thoughts, each one tangled and twisted, making it impossible to think clearly.I walked over to Clara's room, knocking on the door, “Clara it's me,” I called out.Everywhere went silent, I got no reply, “Clara,” I called again with a pleading voice.“Go away Melonie,” her voice rang out.“Please Clara, I need you right now, we need to talk,” I begged desperately.Everywhere grew silent again and then I heard a click.“Clara I'm sorry, I know you are mad at me,” I stated as Clara unlocked the door. She stared at me calmly, “I'm not mad at you Melonie… I'm just - Anxious and…”“I know. And I'm anxious too, I'm at the centre of all this trouble. How do you think I feel,” I explained.“That's why you ha
MELONIE'S POV:Ogling at me, he paused his lips, “Okay, we start immediately, there's no time,” Arwan voiced out.My face went pale, “Okay… no words of encouragement or you saying something like - good girl, you made a good choice?”He glanced at me, irritated. “What do I look like? Your daddy?”“Fuck you Arwan,” I retorted displeased.Ignoring me, he pointed towards a direction facing him, “Come here!”Without arguing, I walked closer, kicking my legs and throwing my arms to gather my strength.“Clean up this room,” he declared.I stared at him, rolling my eyes, “Sorry?”“Your first lesson would be manners, you lack that,” he responded calmly.“Are you fine? Are you sure you are not hungry or tasty? Or maybe you are pressed. Go on, take a poop. I'll be waiting if it'll make you feel better,” I snarled. He walked closer to me, his shadow covering my entire existence, “Talk to me disrespectfully again and watch me slap you into next week. Clean up this room and meet me in the garden on
MELONIE'S POV:My world crumbled, I wasn't scared, I was horrified.I wasn't ready, but I was forced to be.It's just one way to die, die or die either way.Thick sweat escaped my forehead and my heart was heavy with worry.“Everyone inside! lock the doors, lock the windows,” Arwan's voice echoed.I gawked at him as he calmly took responsibility, “I'm coming with you,” I declared. He stared back at me, “What can you possibly do to help? Stay here, go into your room and lock the door and windows. It's safer that way.”“You broke the lock,” I stated in remembrance. He paused for a while as if trying to verify what I said, “Then go into mine.”Arwan left the building I was, into the main building to save others, I couldn't explain it, but strangely, there was this force pulling me to him.“Arwan,” I murmured in fear.I trailed behind him, and for a reason, I could barely leave him to get hurt, even if there was barely anything I could do.“Everyone, vacate this building and move into Mel
MELONIE'S POV:We all froze, and everyone seemed lost in their own agony. “Should we all be saying our last prayers?” Clara asked out of nowhere, with a bitter face.Arlo also looked devastated, “Melonie do something.”“What exactly can I do? Jump in front of those things and get snapped in two? Gosh, you all never loved me,” I retorted firmly. My gaze fell on Arwan. Although everyone was scared, he seemed to be deep in thought, trying to come up with a solution. “I'll lead them away from the building,” Arwan blurted out.“That's ridiculous,” I spat back, “No Arwan. That's a terrible idea! You can't do that.”“I have less of a choice right now,” he defended, “That door will not hold, a lot of people will die. Our realm will be wiped and emptied, never to be remembered.”“THOSE DEADLY THINGS WILL KILL YOU!” I yelled out in panic, “They are not one or two; there are a lot out there, waiting to tear us apart like over boiled chickens.”Arwan took steps closer to me, “I know Melonie, but
ARWAN'S POV:I stared at the unconscious figure of Melonie. She was scared to fight until I was thrown to the ground by dark walkers, she looks just like her birth mother, I can only hope she doesn't act like her and end up dying.I picked her up and carried her to her room, with Clara and Arlo following behind.“Is she fine?” Clara asked worriedly.“She must have exhausted her strength,” she passed out, after transformation." I explained.Arlo nodded in understanding, “It would have been weird if that didn't happen. She literally saved us all.”A warm smile spread across my face, “She saved me.”It took hours, before Melonie calmly opened her eyes, “Where am I?” She asked, looking around.A teasing smirk appeared on my face, “In heaven, you died a while ago.”She scoffed out loud, struggling to get up, “Jokes on you.”**🥀**MELONIE'S POV:I could barely feel myself, my body ached from the fight and overuse of power.“Can you stand?” Arwan asked calmly.I nodded in approval, “Yes. 🥀 MELONIE'S POV 🥀My heart skipped a beat as I felt a shiver run down my spine. Finally, the person I was warned about had decided to show up, the evil side of me that feeds on nothing but destruction. He was taller than I had expected, with piercing eyes that seemed to bore into my soul. His smile was charming, but it didn't quite reach his eyes, leaving me with a sense of unease.I felt a surge of adrenaline as I stood frozen, unsure of what to do next. Part of me wanted to turn and run, to get as far away from him as possible. But another part of me was curious, wanting to know more about this being who had sparked so much fear and fascination. As I stood there, he began to move towards me, his eyes never leaving mine. I felt a sense of trepidation, unsure of what to expect. Was he going to hurt me, or was he just going to try and charm me?I took a deep breath and stood my ground, trying to appear braver than I felt. As he approached me, I could feel my heart pounding in my ches
🥀 MELONIE'S POV 🥀I stood frozen, my ears ringing with the crazy words I heard but was trying to unhear. The room around me seemed to fade away, and all that was left was the sound of my own heartbeat, pounding in my chest like a drum. The words themselves seemed to echo through my mind, a cruel and heartless refrain that I couldn't shake. "I buried him." "He's better off dead." "That's what's best for all of us."All the air was knocked out of me. My lungs burned, and my eyes stung with tears that I couldn't hold back.I tried to speak, to ask for clarification or to plead for a different outcome. But my voice was caught in my throat, and all that came out was a strangled sob.I felt like my world had been shattered, like everything I thought I knew had been turned upside down. I was left standing amidst the wreckage, trying to make sense of the ruins. As the reality of the situation began to sink in, I felt a wave of grief wash over me. It was a heavy, crushing weight that consume
🥀 ARWAN'S POV 🥀As I stood there, my mind racing with thoughts of the unknown, I couldn't shake off the feeling of dread that had settled in the pit of my stomach. The development of this child, who had been delivered a few days before, was already too advanced; he was like a year old in two days.My heart was racing, my palms were sweating, and worst-case scenarios consumed my thoughts. What if this is the worst mistake we could ever make? What if this child is nothing but sorrow? What if we die in the process? I felt anxious, scared, and overwhelmed. I just wanted to hide, to escape from the uncertainty and the fear that was gripping me. But I knew I couldn't. I had to face my fears, to push through the anxiety and find a way to make it work.I gawked at the baby in Lavanya's arms. She was scared but the fact that she was staring at the child seemed to calm her down.Arlo walked into the room, Clara rushing behind, “Why did you stop?” Clara yelled.Arlo looked back at her and sm
🥀 ARWAN'S POV 🥀The room fell silent as our eyes fixed on the unbelievable sight before us. Gasps and whispers filled the air as we all struggled to comprehend what we were seeing. The baby seemed to defy explanation, a mesmerising sight that drew in every gaze like a magnet. It was as if time itself had frozen, leaving only stunned silence and awestruck stares. My mouth hung open, and my face was pale with wonder. Lavanya's eyes were wide with excitement, and her pupils dilated as she took in every detail.Clara looked like she was about to faint, her legs trembling beneath her as she struggled to remain upright.“I'll take the child and clean him up,” Lavanya blurted out, stretching her arms.I gawked at her, “Be careful Lavanya.”“Oh c'mon,” she snapped back, “He's just a cute little baby.”“That eats flesh and blood,” Alpha Vargus added, causing Lavanya to roll her eyes.“Wh -why does he look like… an angel?” Clara muttered.I looked at Melonie, she was unconscious. The witch no
🥀 MELONIE'S POV 🥀I felt more alive, it was as if blood was the medicine I should have taken since the beginning of my horrifying pregnancy. I looked down at the empty bowls of blood on the ground. I could tell that such an amount of blood didn’t come from one or two people, it definitely came from tons of people and lives. They say blood is the life force that flows through mortal veins and the essence of life itself, so why blood? I looked at my growing belly, my hunger and thirst did not stop, but I wasn’t hungry for food or water, I was hungry for blood. The same thing that disgusted me, but somehow, I was enjoying it.It did disgust me, but it didn’t disgust the child I was carrying.“Should I really give birth to this child?” I thought, “What if I’m making a mistake because I don’t want my daughter dead? What if I’m protecting this child because of the fact that I’m the one carrying it?I reached for another bowl of blood, gulped it down without thinking twice, and felt even
🥀 MELONIE'S POV 🥀Several herbs were brought to me, I was barely breathing – I was in a worse state than I have ever been, since my birth; but still I couldn't eat.“Did the child break her ribs?” Clara asked in fear.“The child is way too powerful for her system,” the witch announced. First, we need to find a way to feed her.”At the mention of food, I began to throw up, but there was nothing in my tummy to vomit, so it was extremely painful, I just kept screaming and crying.“I don't think the child wants food,” the witch reasoned out.“If not food, then what the hell does she want?” Arwan barked.“Blood… human blood,” Bruno announced.“Hell no! I'm not in for this,” Arwan snarled.“No wayyyyy…” Lavanya gasped.“We don't know that yet, Arwan. Let's just give it a try,” Clara added.“Human blood??? Blood??? What is it? A vampire?” Arwan yelled back.“No, she's not a vampire and we are just giving it a try,” the witch retorted.Arwan walked closer to the witch, “Well the answer is n
🥀 MELONIE'S POV 🥀A rush of cold spread through my body, I stared at Arwan in disbelief.“How could you…” I paused, trying to react appropriately.I was dazed, confused and disoriented.“Why are you doing this Arwan?” I calmly asked, “Why did you bring that witch?”“I won't stand by and watch that thing kill you,” Arwan blurted out.“Child!” Clara corrected.“Shut up Clara!” Arwan menacingly muttered.“I already told you, I'm not getting rid of my daughter. When she's born, I'll name her Ariel or Agatha,” I calmly announced, “Even if I'm no more, you'll have her by your side.”“You must be delusional to think that I'll love that thing if it kills you,” Arwan retorted, “I'll leave you with the witch, and by the time I come back… I hope that thing is gone.”Arwan stormed out of the room, and I gawked at the witch.“Leave!” I commanded.“Melonie, listen to me,” she started. I regret everything I did in the past. I was only trying to find a means to protect myself. That's why I didn't c
🥀 MELONIE'S POV 🥀I stood frozen, my ears ringing with the words that had just been spoken. It was as if time had stopped, and all that existed was the shock and disbelief that coursed through my veins.“What do you mean… pregnant Lavanya?” I blurted out, breaking the silence.“What do you mean? What do I mean?” Lavanya responded, “I've seen a lot of pregnant women… you are one of them, look at your baby bump.”“Exactly,” Arwan retorted, “There shouldn't be a bump yet. She's literally a day pregnant.”“It's growing so fast, every minute,” Clara blurted out.“Is that okay?” I asked fearfully, “Is this how fast a baby grows in your world? I mean, for humans… It's nine months.”“Of Course, it's not okay… you are the dragon wolf, and Arwan is a fucking ancient lycanthropic dragon,” Bruno interrupted, “That seems very abnormal… just like you, it shouldn't be born.”“It?” I whispered.“Melonie, calm down,” Lavanya muttered. It's nine months in our world, too… I don't know why it's growing
🥀 CLARA'S POV 🥀I stood before him, my words trembling on my lips. I knew what I was about to say would shatter his world, and crush the love and trust he had placed in me.As I looked into his eyes, I saw the innocence, the vulnerability, and the adoration that shone brightly within them. And I knew that I was about to extinguish that light, to snuff out the flame of love that had burned so brightly.I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the pain I was about to inflict. "I'm sorry," I whispered, the words feeling like ash in my mouth. "I'm too in love with Arlo, I can't love you back… ever."The words hung in the air like a challenge, a cruel and heartless declaration that left him reeling. I watched in horror as his face crumpled, as the tears began to flow, and as his world came crashing down around him.He looked at me with eyes that were filled with shock, with pain, and with betrayal. "How could you?" he whispered, his voice trembling with anguish. "How could you do this t
