Chapter 002

Dialing my phone to call my mother, I massaged my forehead as I sighed heavily, holding on to the steering wheel of my car. Rouge told me I should go home for now as I’m just making Rachel’s condition worse, according to him.

I have no idea how I am being blamed for something I didn’t even commit to doing. I scared her? In what way? I can’t understand.

“Hello, honey? How are you?” My mother’s soft voice conquered my ears as she answered my call.

Gulping the lump in my throat, I blinked away the tears forming in the side of my eyes.

“I’m okay, Mom. Rouge and I are doing good,” I lied. “I just want to know if there’s news circulating in our pack about what happened to Rachel.”

My mom is close to Rachel’s family, and they have a good relationship with each other. So if something bad happens to Rachel, and her family knows about it, there’s a possibility that my mother has learned about it too.

“Ohh, Rachel is poisoned, my dear. I don’t know who did that, but I think it’s one of our enemies. She’s Rouge’s friend after all. She is still important to him, so maybe they did that to give Alpha Rouge a threat.”

My forehead creased.

She was poisoned? But if it's our enemies who did that? Why did they attack Rachel instead of me, his wife, if they want to threaten Rouge? It doesn’t prove a point.

The short call with my mom has kept my mind flying as I drive back to our house. Sometimes, the image of Rouge’s burning eyes directed toward me keeps replaying in my mind, and the sounds of their lips kissing prove how my husband betrayed me.

When I finally went home, my mind clouded, Rouge was already in our bedroom, changing his clothes as he came out of the shower.

Our eyes met when I stepped inside; his eyes showed indifference as he glared at me.

“You’re here. I thought you’d spend your whole day in the hospital with Rachel,” I said with my normal voice, walking into the closet to get some of my clothes so I could change as well.

“Yes, you’re right. I just came home to pack some of my clothes and cook her dinner. She needs someone to look after her.”

As I closed my closet, I got halted with what he said, processing if I heard him right.

I turned to look at him; he’s now dressed and is now taking his nightwear clothes and putting them in a bag.

“You’ll sleep with her?” I asked faintly.

He glared at me. “She needs me, Cassandra. She’s scared, and I need to check on her from time to time.”

“Why, Rouge? Why does it need to be you?”

“Because you poisoned her! You did that to her, and I need to fucking keep her safe because my wife poisoned my friend!”

My eyes widened, chest heaving up and down.

“I didn’t poison her! Rouge, I did nothing to her!”

He walked toward me and then held my arm tightly.

“Stop with your lies now, Cassandra! She said it was you who poisoned her!”

“And you believed her? I’m not lying, Rouge!” His eyes stared at me with conviction that I really did it. I chuckled painfully. “Why is it easy for you to believe her than your wife? You chose to blame me for a crime I didn’t even know and do.”

Our eye contact has taken for a long minute before he freed my arms, taking his back on me with the bag full of his nightwear clothes.

Before he closed the door, he stopped and said something that pains my heart again.

“I won’t go home tonight. I’ll stay in the hospital and look after her. She’s going to be home tomorrow already, and I need you to make sure that everything is properly cleaned; she’ll stay with us here to keep her safe.” He said then bolted out the door, leaving me alone in a room that’s supposed to be a place joined by us together.

The moon is shining so bright in the skies, joined by the stars who give us light in the dark. I smiled bitterly to myself, caressing the box in my hands that I took from my secret drawer.

“I never knew that the time would come for me to open this box. I guess, to give someone chances are unlimited, but the pain that I could handle is not.”

A tear fell from my right eye as my fingers slowly went to my belly.

“I’m sorry, baby. I’m so sorry.”

Slowly opening the box, another tear fell again to the clean paper inside, the divorce agreement. With my trembling hands, I took the Luna’s pen, stared at the moon, and prayed to the moon goddess.

I closed my eyes for a minute, and when they opened, they turned into gold. With it, I signed the divorce agreement in front of the moon, making sure that the moon goddess had witnessed it all.
