Ella’s POV

My heart sliced into two halves as David's question settled into my head. I opened my mouth to speak but I felt my throat immediately become dry and producing words was a task too difficult to produce.

Only one question kept going through in my head and I could only hope that she didn’t go there to find out about me. or the skeletons she had promised to find.

“Why did she go there of all places?” Michael suddenly said, filling the silence with his charismatic voice.

I felt his hands on my knee and my eyes immediately went to his face. He gave me a curt nod and a small assuring smile lined his face. Somehow, I understood that this was his way of helping me contain an awkward situation.
