KRISTINA'S POV
Tormented. Humiliated. Anguished. My heart, which beats every second, wasn’t enough to make me feel alive. For the 18 years of my existence, I have been continuously ridiculed—no one believed that I had a wolf within me. They said that those who grew up in Wysteria Hope Orphanage were failures because they weren’t favored by the Moon Goddess, Serina. No one from the orphanage dared to fight for me. The only person who did was my childhood friend—my one and only crush—Laurence Alfaro, the son of the Crimson Snow Pack’s Alpha. We’ve always been together, and because of his constant appearance whenever I’m in trouble, I believed that Laurence actually felt the same way towards me. I’m not yet brave enough to confess my love for him. Even my wolf, Tina, was pushing me to confess. No matter if I got rejected by him or not, it would all be alright, or so she said. "What are you spacing out for?" Laurence spoke, which disrupted my thoughts. I shook my head at the same time that a small smile formed on my lips. "Nothing much. Just the days when you used to save me from those orphans who bullied me day and night," I replied. A chuckle that escaped from Laurence was soothing to my ears. "That was over a year ago already," he commented. "Ah, I just remembered something important that I had to do today…" I turned around to my left side to face him, only to be fascinated by how he looked. He wasn’t that tall when compared to me; it’s his muscular build that never fails to make me blush. Even his simple-styled black hair was tempting me to keep playing with every strand. I would definitely recognize Laurence, even if he were standing alongside a crowd of over a thousand. "What is it? Is the Alpha summoning you?" I asked in pure curiosity, seeing how worried his eyes were. Alpha Alfaro used to be superior to everyone else, but not until his health started to deteriorate. The cause of his sudden sickness was still foreign to us; even his own son doesn't have any idea how to cure him. And the best thing that he could do for his father was to be there for him whenever the Alpha asked for him. Laurence nodded his head once. "Yes. Sorry, but I think I can't accompany you any further," he answered me, then left without waiting for my response. A minute after I strolled my way back to our pack house, where Laurence took me in, a rummaging noise outside kept me alert. It was like a couple of troops were out there, lurking and waiting for the perfect timing to launch their attack on us. In an attempt to perform a mind-link with Laurence, I was sent flying through midair after such a strong force kicked me from behind. I kneeled to the ground as I forced myself to stand back up with both of my fists clenched. "What do you want now, Violet?" I spit blood, which I instantly wiped off. Violet was one of the orphans. She obviously seemed stronger than I was, considering how thick her biceps were. Her name matched her hair color. "I won't forgive you even if the entire Wysteria crumbles. I'll never forget how you got out of the orphanage and left with a smirk on your ugly face," Violet agitatedly said in between her deep breaths. "Why would a woman with a useless wolf live in this pack house? Don't you feel ashamed of yourself? That you're bringing the whole pack's image into ruins?" she consecutively asked. I scoffed when I heard the reason she barged in here. "You risked your life to tell me that?" I laughed, then got in touch with Laurence with our mind-link. Laurence's footsteps were getting near, so I took the chance to let Violet hurt me physically as much as she desired. I'm certain that he won't simply slap her to have revenge in my stead—he'd probably torture her for the rest of her life. I could sense how swollen my face was at the moment. Violet's knuckles and palms kept smashing my cheeks, making them numb to their pain. "Stop smiling, Kristina!" She smacked my stomach. And just on cue, Laurence made his entrance after coming out of the elevator. His eyes were showing how much bloodlust he had stored for Violet. "You… You never learn, don't you?" Laurence muttered as he slowly came to her spot. I anticipated a lengthy conversation between them, but it turned out that Laurence had no time for some petty talk. He grabbed Violet's hair backwards with all his might, which led her to cry. "Your voice is irritating; should I slit your throat?" "Why are you trying so hard to protect Kristina when she's not even your mate?" Violet raised her voice, as she was still resisting his grip. I noticed a slight change in Laurence's hand that almost released her. Though it wasn't that long, he threw her away from our sight, literally. He closed the doors before he went back to my side. "Are you alright, Kristina?" He gently caressed my head, thinking that I might get hurt if he touched my face in this condition. "That damn woman…" "Do you also think that we're not fated mates, Laurence?" A query that I didn't intentionally want to ask him just slipped through my mouth. "A-ah, you don't have to answer if you're uncomfo—" "Of course," he coldly replied with a straight face, which made me feel like hot water had just splashed me from head to toe. I've never seen Laurence get this serious. "But we've been together for years! Even if we're not fated mates, can't you just have me as your chosen mate?" Laurence heaved out a loud sigh. "I don't have any time for this, Kristina. I've already got enough on my plates; I can't bother searching for my mate or whoever." The way Laurence responded made my heart sink, realizing how uninterested he was. Nevertheless, it would be best to divert his attention to another topic before he gets suspicious of my statements. "Forget it. Is the Alpha doing well?" Laurence switched back to his usual appearance with a vexed expression that was hungry for vengeance as he shrugged his shoulders. "He wanted me to replace him as the new Alpha." His voice trembled as he gulped in fear.KRISTINA'S POVThe Crimson Snow Pack members gathered together in the lobby. We were all dressed identically, but I felt like I stood out the most. Our theme was supposed to make us wear all black, and yet, I was the only exception—I wore a red dress that was tight on my waistline, which exposed the curves of my body. Even my breasts almost popped out because of their size. This was what Laurence told me to wear a while ago in preparation for his coronation night. He also lent me a sparkling golden necklace. It was the one that his mother had hidden before she disappeared from their lives. I think that might be one of the reasons why Laurence couldn't bear to see me in the orphanage—he doesn't want me to experience the worst part of being abandoned."You look magnificent tonight, Kristina," Laurence sincerely complimented me while he was holding onto his wine glass.I playfully smirked as I copied his gesture. "Just tonight?"He hissed before sipping on his drink. "You've always been
KRISTINA'S POV"I, Laurence Gabriel Alfaro, accept you, Aliyah Jane Montereal, as my mate. You can rest easy whenever you're with me; I swear to the Moon Goddess' name that I would never fail to make you ecstatic,'' Laurence genuinely mumbled to Lady Montereal while tenderly cupping her cheeks.I have been inattentive to everyone else who was trying to get my attention, as I was focused on nothing else other than watching Laurence and Lady Montereal get clingy with each other."How the hell can he be that touchy with someone he just met? So what if they're mates? I've known Laurence much longer than she does. If there's anyone out there suited to be Laurence's mate, it would obviously be me," I muttered, letting my thoughts escape through my mouth, thinking that no one would bother listening to my rants. We just had s*x a few hours ago, and now he's entertaining someone else.Aliyah Jane Montereal was the only one capable of handling the entire Black Fangs pack. She has such great man
KRISTINA'S POVDays went by, and I still hadn't found anything to eat. Once I begin to eat the flesh of my own kindred, then that won't really make me any different from a lone wolf who has gone crazy. My skin has gotten itchy because of the filthy surroundings that I'm not used to.I've been constantly moving out of my shelter every single time that my heightened senses warn me about dangerous wolves approaching. I've already tried countless times to connect with Laurence in our mind-link, to possibly ask him if he had a change of heart about me, but I could no longer reach him.It was supposed to be just another peaceful and ordinary night. I didn't expect that I would be surrounded by about five wolves who were all in the high grounds, patiently waiting for me to arrive and take another step towards my hidden hut."That silver hair of yours stands out too much. You're the only one who has that color," one of them said.Even if I was standing idly in the same spot, I made sure not t
KRISTINA'S POVWhen I reached the end of the path, I realized that I'm still outside the woods. Even though there weren't many humans around anymore, the forest remained the same scenery. I looked up at the dark skies, trying to see what kind of moon was there tonight. The clouds were slowly moving across the sky while the moonlight was shining brightly and giving a little relief to the dark surroundings. I looked down onto the muddy surface below me, taking in everything that I'm seeing. This must be some kind of trick from the Moon Goddess, showing her favor to me because I am no ordinary being who has been given a very special gift. A small, almost indiscernible noise caught my attention, and I was about to turn around when my eyes caught something that I shouldn't. It was too early in the morning to see such a strange sight since I couldn't see the person standing nearby. "Don't move!" Startled, my legs suddenly gave way from under me as my knees met the ground. A pair of long
KRISTINA'S POVThe young man dared to introduce himself to me. "I'm Nathan by the way." Then he extended his hand to me as a sign of his introduction. At first I hesitated, but eventually I also introduced myself to him. "I-I'm Kristina," I answered shyly, but I secretly smiled– a little bit. He's handsome enough. And he even looked like a gentleman who could give good advice, so I decided that I should trust him. But of course this is only temporary… I have to take a test to find out if he was really worth trusting or not. But still for now I can't help but to let down my guard and smile at him. This might just work. Maybe we'll meet again sometime and maybe there will be more interactions between us. After all Nathan isn't bad looking either and from time to time I wonder about what kind of men those in his world are. But then again the last thing I need right now is to get involved with any of them. I mean the last time someone got too close to me ended in an unfortunate acc
KRISTINA'S POVThe footsteps grew louder and soon stopped in front of us. The two silhouettes appeared in front of us, but we couldn't see their faces clearly. It's almost impossible to recognize anyone if you don't actually know them. All we could see were two figures. Two tall slender figures which stood side by side. One was wearing black clothing and the other wearing white. Even though it's difficult to distinguish one person from the other. I could tell that the woman in white had blonde curls and a slim figure. The man next to her had short dark hair with a buzz cut and wore black attire as well. The two humans continued walking ahead until they disappeared into the trees. Only after a few moments did Nathan relax and turned to face me. "It seems that we're safe now. Thanks for helping me back then," he said with a relieved tone in his voice. "Are you okay?" As soon as Nathan said these words I started laughing loudly. Of course I'm not okay! That man in black came out to
KRISTINA'S POVBut I couldn't give up. Not when Nathan is right there, smiling brightly at me and waiting for me to join him. After managing to keep up with him, I finally managed to climb up into his lap, and as we both sat on the large branch Nathan started humming quietly. As his fingers moved gracefully against my hips, I relaxed and soon I fell asleep. My dreams were wonderful and beautiful, filled with warmth and joy, just like Nathan's body wrapped around mine. However, when morning arrived, I woke up alone and shivering like a baby chick who doesn't know how to fly. This is the first time since I am with a human, I can remember having a dream of my own, and this one was no different. In fact, it seemed so real and true that I wondered whether I dreamed it or not. However, despite my dream being pleasant I still couldn't shake off the uneasy feeling lingering in the pit of my stomach. "How's your sleep?" A friendly voice broke me from my thoughts. I turned around in surpri
KRISTINA'S POVHe looked concerned. He's always worried when he finds me crying, even though I don't want to show him how weak I'm actually getting. If only he knew I wasn't just crying because of our predicament. Maybe he'll understand. "Are you alright now? I promise nothing bad will happen to you," he promised as he laid his warm hands on mine and gazed at me. His expression and words were sincere and caring. I almost laughed at how easy he was making me believe those things. "Yeah, I'm fine now... Just a bit startled by a strange wolf and all," I confessed, feeling silly for admitting such an embarrassing thing. But seeing Nathan smiling and comforting me gave me courage to continue talking. "It's quite alright. I'm here with you, right? We're friends now, aren't we?" Friends... Right. Nathan and I were friends. I never had friends. People avoided me and others treated me like some kind of fragile porcelain doll. Yet somehow Nathan managed to make me smile. Despite everything
