Chapter 40: Demonic Beasts

Since we couldn't enter the library, Light and I strolled around some streets and alleys. To gather more information, we entered café’s and pubs that commoners frequented. It took us a few hours, and now it's ten past five in the afternoon.

Sometimes commoners know something that the nobles don't. So it's better to mingle with the commoners.

As we entered the pub, it was already full of people; chatting, drinking, and laughing.

Light and I sat at the corner with our hoods on and observed the people while eavesdropping their conversation. I know it's not appropriate to eavesdrop, but I can only gather information this way.

"Hey, I heard that Duke Preston had a conflict with the Golden Crest Pack at the border."

"Yeah. I think Duke Preston had a squabble with the Guinevere Family of the Golden Crest Pack about the military supplies."

"Arthur Guinevere is so petty, and he deliberately provoked Duke Preston."

"Those nobles only think about their interests."

"Enough about those buffoons. I
