The sky was completely free of even the barest wisp of a cloud. It was as if the gods were watching, and had declared that nothing obstruct their view of the fight they’d been promised. There weren’t even any birds singing in the forest around our little meadow in the middle of the woods. Someone was going to die here today.
Sophie had done well. A ten foot circle was clearly marked in the center of the grass with a larger circle marked around it another ten feet out. Beyond that, two white tents stood up on opposite sides of each other. I was supposed to do all of this, but the goddess wouldn’t settle for anything less than a full twenty-four hours. I had to kill someone today. I knew that I was physically capable of doing it. I was just a little iffy on if I had the conviction to kill her in such a gruesome way. It would’ve been much easier to just order her to stop breathing. But blood had to be spilt. Not fingers exactly, something more akin to monster hands. I found myself wondering if they’d be as pristinely white as the short velvety fur coving my arm if they weren’t coated in blood. “Selene…” Someone said my name, but they sounded too far away for me to recognize the voice. The dead lump rolled off my fingertips, falling to the ground with a wet thud. I didn’t feel anything now that it wasn’t pulping in my hand. I was numb and hollowed out, just like the lifeless husk at my feet.&nb
If you've made it all the way to end of this chapter in Selene's journey, then I hope that you've enjoyed the ride thus far. The next and final chapter of her life "Rite of War" should start posting around December of 2023. This story is a sequel to "Rite of Submission" and I will do my best to make it as much of a stand alone story as I can, but if you feel lost, you might want to read the first book and then come back to this one. Some the the themes and scenes found throughout the story could be triggering to some people. Please educate yourself on kink etique and negotiate clear terms before proceeding with your partner and always have a safe word in case things become too much. Don't forget to negotiate your aftercare as well. That said. If you think you may be triggered by kinky themes, this is not the book for you.Other triggers may include crude/crass/vulgar/explicit language and details. LGBTQ+ scenes. Blood, sex and some violence sprinkled in as well.If your going to be the fact checker or trope police, this not the book for you. If vampires can sparkle in twilight, I can decide the rules of my werewolves. If you are the grammar or spellcheck police, you're welcome to stay and point out any
I groaned inwardly as my head throbbed. It was so unfair that werewolves metabolized alcohol so fast that we had to drink way more than a human to get drunk, but we that also meant the dehydration caused a mean hangover. If I didn’t feel like I was playing the worst game of catch up with the rest of my kind, I would’ve canceled this morning’s training session. I just knew I was about to spend the next 3 hours getting my ass handed to me. I snuggled into the chest of the man lying in the bed beside me and breathed in the delicious smoky sandalwood and dark earthy spice of his scent. It made it all that much harder to force myself to get out of bed. If I left it up to him, I wouldn’t be training at all. Sighing, I renewed my resolve to slip out of his embrace and face the world head on. His arms tightened around me, “Just tell him that you’re skipping today.” It took more effort than I would ever admit to wiggle out of his grasp. When
“You look like you’re ready to start war negotiations with an enemy pack instead of meeting with a long lost relative,” Dmitri teased, taking in the ink black power suit with silver pin striping, I’d put on. I’d wanted to look strong and confident, not hostile. “You think I should go softer?” I frowned, “Or lighter?” I was still struggling to find just the right way to dress for my new rank. Alphas usually wore black; their Lunas wore white, two halves of a whole, balancing each other out. I was an Alpha’s mate, but I was also an Alpha in my own right, at least that’s what we told the world. The truth was I was so much more than that. I wasn’t just your average lycan. I wasn’t even like the other rare female alphas. Half of me wasn’t even mortal. It was a secret that only the two of us knew. “You know I’m biased,” he stepped behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing my shoulder, “I think you’re most beau
I screwed my face up into the sweetest smile I could muster as the unfamiliar black SUV pulled up to the front steps of the main house. A mountain of a man stepped out of the car, standing six and half feet tall, at least. His slightly shaggy, dirty blonde hair was combed back away from his face. A close trimmed beard, made his Viking-like features more prominent. A predatory smile curled up his lips as his stormy blue eyes landed on me. “Uncle Ulf,” I chirped cheerfully, stepping forward to greet him. Dmitri moved with me as if we really were joined at the hip. “I do hope the car ride wasn’t too long or unpleasant. You really should let us put you up in the guest house if you plan to stay long.” The pack’s hotel of a guest house had been booked full. But most of the guests from last night’s party were eager to get back to their own packs with The Vὅlsung making an appearance so close to their homes. “Think nothing of it my dear;” he smiled at me, igno
I’d shrugged out of the suit jacket on my way down the stairs, throwing it at Dmitri as he followed me, still chuckling. For the first time ever, I found my way down to the sparring room before Nathan. He wasn’t long behind us though, with Sophie on his heels carrying in some of my work out clothes and a pair of running shoes. “I’m not changing clothes,” I barked, making her flinch. I had so much rage ripping through me I didn’t even feel a hint of guilt for my Beta’s reaction. “Sometime today Nathan,” I growled at him impatiently. Dmitri wrapped an arm around his sister, pulling her towards the far corner and out of the way while still laughing. Tossing his own suit jacket at the siblings, Nathan stalked towards me, a snarky grin on his face. He came at me, swinging for my face. I ducked; grabbing his wrist as it flew past me and his arm too, spinning him around towards the wall. He caught himself as I let go; only stumbling slightly
It felt weird, helping to move Nathan’s things into Dmitri’s old apartment suite, across the hall from Sophia’s. We’d remodeled and moved into the suite of rooms that were once occupied by the twins’ parents, and now this suite was sitting empty and unused. It made sense to have all four of us close together, but it still felt weird. Sophie was urging Nathan to remodel the rooms, but he’d just grumbled about how it was fine the way it was. He did not object to my insistence that he at least refurnish the rooms, and let us get rid of all of Dmitri’s old furniture. Almost every first for us had happened in those rooms, with that furniture. Even though we’d agreed to start fresh when we moved, as not all of his first memories were of me, I couldn’t completely let go of it all. Most of the enforcers were helping us all to move furniture in and out of rooms, including my 6 newly trained female warriors. Sophie, with her OCD level organization skills, was wo

I felt a little guilty for leaving Blake to deal with Selene’s possession all night. Now I owed him, Kelly and Sophie big. I just couldn’t risk that she’d find a way to seduce me if we were alone together. She curled up beside Blake on the sofa, under a throw blanket with her head on his lap. At least he’d managed to get her to sleep before she was set to fight to death in a couple hours. Blake looked exhausted himself, like he hadn’t slept a wink and brought his finger to his lips in a shushing motion when he saw me. ‘How much trouble did she give you?’ His shrug
It wasn’t too hard to babysit a goddess once I started approaching the situation like I was taking care of my own little sister when she much younger. Aside from having a filthy vocabulary and an overwhelming sense of entitlement, it was just like taking care of a ten year old girl. She played in the water like she was a nymph, basked in the sun until it got too warm, preferred sweets and junk food over veggies, playing dress up with the plethora of clothes in the closet, and sitting on the floor in front of me while I brushed and braided her long, unruly curly locks for her. “She chose well with you,” she sighed contentedly as she watched me clean up our dinner dishes.
“I don’t understand, what is going on?” Alex stared at me as I watched Dmitri storm down the hall. I wrapped an arm around her and pulled her out of the hall, “I don’t know yet either, but I’ll let you know what I can when I find out. Ok love?” She frowned at me, “Meaning you have to leave early this morning.” “You know I don’t want too,” I brushed the hair out of her face, “and in just one more day, almost all of this craziness will be done and over. Then I can ask Dimi and Selene to let us have a few days out at the cabin.&rdq
Nathan ran back to spend his day with Candice, some kind of last day with her mate bullshit. Dmitri had shifted back into his wolf to carry the goddess in Selene’s body out to their hideaway cabin, since she was deadlocked in human form. I was tasked with grabbing a motorbike for Dmitri to ride back on, since I’d be staying out there with Selene. ‘There’s been a change of plans,’ I linked to Kelly as soon as I was close enough. ‘Did you guys find Selene?’ ‘Yes, but she’s not herself today, so we’re spending the day out at the cabin,’ I expl
It wasn’t hard to see that everyone had picked up on Selene’s complete lack of interest in everything around her. But just like everyone else, I said nothing. After the report Nathan gave me of the test run he’d put together for her, she seemed broken in a way that none of us knew how to heal. I couldn’t help but feel that things were only going to get worse. If ‘killing’ a statue had this effect on her, what was going to happen when she actually took a life? I cursed myself for letting her set the terms to all or nothing. Someone had to die, and I was starting to worry that she’d let it be her instead of having to take a life herself. Traditions and laws be d
There was definitely something off about Selene tonight, but no one seemed to want to voice anything about it. I was willing to bet that the only person that would’ve spoken up, was Blake, but she’d ordered him to stay with his mate for the rest of the day and even arranged to have their diner brought up to them so that Kelly wouldn’t have to tax herself any further by dealing with more people. She kept staring off into space throughout the meal. Clearly her mind was somewhere else. But she still managed to fake a smile, and nod at the appropriate times as the conversations prompted. She didn’t even lean into Dmitri’s touch, which struck me as more odd than her lack of banter.&
