Chapter 42

Olivia and Mia soon arrived at the dorm room, as they burst through the door. Without a word, they both rushed to Sophia and wrapped her in a tight hug.

“Whoa! What’s this for?” Sophia laughed, caught off guard but secretly enjoying the warmth of their embrace.

“Can’t we just hug you?” Mia teased, pulling back slightly.

“Yeah, maybe we missed you,” Olivia added with a wink.

Sophia narrowed her eyes playfully. “you girls can't be serious. I saw you guys this morning.”

And how come you guys always seem to come in together?

“Still,” Mia said, flopping onto Sophia’s bed dramatically. “A lot can happen in a few hours, plus you got the job .” and blame Olivia for that ,she is always looking for how to follow me

Sophia shook her head, grinning. “You two are so weird.”

“We know,” Olivia said proudly. “Now, about my date—”

“Ah, yes! What time does it start?” Sophia asked, straightening up. “Let’s get you all dressed up.”

Olivia glanced at her phone. “In about two hours, but I need time to pick out an outfit, do my makeup, and, you know, mentally prepare.”it being my first with him I want him to be blown away

Sophia smirked. “Mentally prepare? For what, eating and staring into Jake’s dreamy eyes?”

Speaking of have you guys spoken since last night ?Mia asked

“Exactly,” Olivia said, dramatically placing a hand on her chest. “It’s an art, really.”and yeah we were exchanging texts when class was going on

Mia rolled her eyes. “You’re impossible. Come on, let’s find you something cute.”

The three of them sprang into action, throwing open Olivia’s closet doors. Dresses, skirts, and tops in various colors tumbled onto the bed as Mia and Sophia rummaged through them like fashion detectives on a mission.

“Okay, this one is cute,” Mia said, holding up a red dress.

Well to be honest she has a lot of cute dresses we just have to settle on the best of the lot , Sophia added

Olivia shook her head. “Too much. I don’t want to look like I’m trying too hard.” at least it's going smooth I also don't want to wear something too revealing if you get me

Sophia held up a simple black dress. “Classic, elegant, safe.”

Olivia made a face. “Too safe. I want to look effortlessly gorgeous but not like I’m going to a funeral.”this dress make me look like a mother mary kind of vibes

Mia sighed. “You are so difficult.”

After much debate, they finally settled on a stylish yet casual floral dress that struck the perfect balance. Olivia twirled in front of the mirror, nodding in approval. She wasn't the type to put on gowns ,always in jeans and polo's but she couldn't help but admire that work done by the girls ,she looked so good

“Okay, now hair and makeup,” Sophia announced, pulling out a small makeup bag that belonged to Olivia, it was one of the girly things that she was good at

“Not too much,” Olivia warned. “can't be looking like a masquerade, I want to him to see and take in all of my natural face

Sophia exchanged a glance with Mia and smirked. “Ah,I see your Jake likes a natural look? Is that his preference, or are you just trying to make sure you still look cute even if you accidentally rub off your foundation?”

Olivia gasped, pretending to be offended. “Excuse you! It’s called strategic beauty. I want to enhance, not transform.”i can't with you girls please

Mia laughed. “Oh, please. Let us work our magic.”

They got to work, with Mia fixing Olivia’s hair into soft waves while Sophia applied just the right amount of makeup to highlight her features. They bonded over it .When they were done, Olivia turned to the mirror and let out a satisfied sigh.

    ---

"Oh my God, you look so good—way too good! I’m sure it’s not only Jake you’ll be attracting tonight," Sophia teased, grinning as she admired Olivia’s look.

"Oh really? Or are you just saying that because *you* did my makeup?" Olivia smirked, striking a playful pose in front of the mirror.

"Hold on, let me take a picture of this masterpiece," Mia said, already pulling out her phone. She snapped a few shots before showing Olivia.

Olivia gasped dramatically. "Oh, I *do* look stunning! You guys are the best!" she said, pulling both of them into another tight hug.

"We know," Sophia said with a smirk. "Now, we trust you’re going to have the perfect date while we sit here waiting for you to come back and spill all the juicy details."

Olivia rolled her eyes but smiled. "Please, it’s not *that* deep."

"Has he picked a place yet?" Mia asked, flopping onto the bed.

"No, not really. I don’t know where we’ll be going. He says he wants to make it a surprise," Olivia replied, glancing at her phone. "I should be expecting a text from him any minute now."

"Ooh, a surprise!" Mia wiggled her eyebrows. "That sounds super romantic, I must say."

"I wonder where it could be," Sophia added, tapping her chin. "Maybe somewhere really nice?"

"Maybe he’s secretly loaded and wants to take you to one of those fancy restaurants outside of campus," Mia continued to tease. "You know, candlelit dinner, violin playing in the background, a waiter with an accent…"

Olivia rolled her eyes. "Oh, stop it, you two! You’re acting like I’m about to meet a prince."

"Hey, you never know!" Sophia shrugged. "Maybe tonight’s the night Jake pulls out all the stops and sweeps you off your feet."

Olivia was about to respond when her phone suddenly buzzed in her hand. She glanced down, and her eyes widened.

"Oh! It’s him, right?" Mia asked excitedly, sitting up.

Olivia nodded, her lips curving into a small smile before putting the phone to her ear. "Hey, Jake," she answered, trying to sound casual but failing miserably at hiding the excitement in her voice.

Mia and Sophia exchanged amused glances, silently mouthing *ohhh* at each other as Olivia turned slightly away, focusing on the conversation.

"Yeah, I’m ready," Olivia said, twirling a strand of her hair between her fingers. "Oh? Really? That’s where we’re going?" She paused, listening, then let out a small laugh. "Okay, yeah, I love that idea! I’ll meet you outside in a few minutes."

As she hung up, Mia practically jumped off the bed. "Well? Where is he taking you?"

Sophia leaned in. "Spill!" What did he say

Olivia smirked. "It’s nothing crazy, so calm down. He’s taking me to this cute café just outside campus. It’s supposed to have a really nice rooftop view."

"Ooooh, rooftop view?" Sophia raised an eyebrow. "That *is* kind of romantic."

"Yeah, I’ve heard about that place!" Mia added. "Apparently, they have the best desserts. Girl, you better order something expensive."

Olivia laughed. "You guys are the worst!"

"Just saying," Sophia shrugged. "If a guy is making a whole surprise date, you *at least* deserve a fancy slice of cake."

"Okay, okay, I’ll think about it," Olivia said, slipping on her shoes. "Now, do I look okay? Last check before I head out!"

Sophia and Mia both gave her a final once-over before nodding in approval.

"You look perfect," Mia confirmed.

"Jake is definitely going to be speechless," Sophia added.

Olivia blushed slightly but rolled her eyes. "Alright, wish me luck!"

"Good luck!" they both said in unison as Olivia grabbed her bag and headed out.

As soon as the door closed behind her, Mia turned to Sophia with a grin. "Alright, do we start placing bets on how this date goes?"

Sophia laughed. "Oh, for sure. But first, let’s get snacks. We’re definitely going to need fuel for the full rundown when she gets back."

Mia nodded in agreement, and with that, they settled in, eagerly waiting for Olivia’s return and all the details she’d be spilling later.

She placed them on the counter and admired the small setup she had planned: a bouquet of white roses, Ryan's favorite cake, and a heartfelt handwritten card she had poured her soul into. She rubbed her belly gently. "Your dad's going to love this," she whispered, smiling. But in that instant, her calm was broken at the sound of heavy footsteps approaching. The little dot indicating that the message had been delivered made her stomach have a sensation Mia was the first to reply, sending a string of celebratory emojis. "Congratulations, girl! It was never in doubt," she wrote, and Sophia couldn’t help but grin at the message. Mia always knew how to make her feel good about herself. She hadn’t made an official appointment, which she now wondered if she should have, but there was no going back. She had to at least show up and try. As she made her way toward Pappies, the cool afternoon breeze brushed against her skin. It was a short walk from her lecture hall, but it felt unfamiliar. This was the first time she had come to this side of the school, and she took in her surroundings as she walked. The atmosphere was quieter here, with fewer students loitering around. Most of them seemed busy, either in hushed conversations or heading toward different buildings. Sophia adjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder and quickened her pace. She didn’t wa

Sophia was a little taken aback. She had expected someone much older in this field, considering the depth of knowledge required for public health. But then again, times were changing, and younger professionals were making their mark in academia. The lecturer walked to the center of the class, set down his materials, and offered a friendly smile. “Good morning, everyone,” he greeted. “Good morning, sir,” the class responded in unison. “My name is Dr. Reynolds, and I’ll be taking you through Public Health this semester.
