Chapter 45
It was quite late into the night, almost past 11, when Olivia finally returned from her date. She quietly pushed open the door to their dorm, careful not to wake Mia, who was already fast asleep. The lights in the room were turned off save for the bedside lamp, which was left on by Sophia, who was still up, scrolling through her phone.
Sophia looked up as Olivia tiptoed in, a knowing smirk playing on her lips. "Well, well, look who finally decided to show up," she teased, sitting up and patting the bed beside her. "So, are you going to spill, or am I going to have to drag it out of you?"
Olivia grinned as she kicked off her heels, stretching her tired feet. "Oh my God, Sophia, it was amazing!" she whispered excitedly, settling onto the bed. "I don’t even know where to start."
"How about from the beginning?" Sophia said, raising an eyebrow. "Glad it was that nice. Like, what even took you so long? I was beginning to think Jake kidnapped you or something."
Olivia laughed softly. "Honestly, I wanted him too. Actually, I lost track of time. We went to this really cute little restaurant just outside campus. It had fairy lights everywhere, and the place was so romantic. He even pulled my chair out for me a gesture lost with people these days "
Sophia gasped, dramatically placing a hand over her heart. "What? A gentleman? In this day and age? No way!"
"I know, right?" Olivia giggled. "I mean, I expected him to be nice, but he was so thoughtful the whole time. He kept asking me about my interests, my favorite movies, books—he actually listens, Sophia. Like, really listen."
Sophia leaned forward . "So, what did you guys talk about? Did he tell you any deep, dark secrets? Like, maybe he secretly collects stuffed animals or writes poetry in his free time or where a teenager like him gets so much money to afford such a restaurant?"
Olivia chuckled, shaking her head. "No, nothing like that. But he did tell me about his childhood and how he used to get into trouble a lot. Apparently, he was the kid who would always climb trees and fall out of them. He has a scar on his arm from when he tried to impress his cousins and ended up falling into a rose bush."
Sophia burst into laughter, covering her mouth to avoid waking Mia. "Oh my God, that is hilarious! He tried to be Tarzan and ended up in a bush? I love that."
"I know!" Olivia giggled. "And the food was so good. I had this amazing pasta, and he ordered a steak, but get this—he cut it into tiny pieces before eating. Like, he was being all careful with his bites. It was kind of adorable." Oh it was all so cute
Sophia narrowed her eyes playfully. "Wait a minute. A guy who cuts his steak into tiny pieces? That’s suspicious. Are we sure he’s not an alien trying to blend in?"
Olivia rolled her eyes, laughing. "Oh, stop! It was cute, okay? Anyway, after dinner, he surprised me with a walk outside the place. It has this kind of nice view of a pool. It was so peaceful. The moon was out, and the water was just reflecting all the lights—it was like something out of a movie."
Sophia sighed dramatically. "Ugh, why does this sound so perfect? It’s unfair. I need a Jake in my life. She teased even though she didn't mean it but how happy Olivia was ,So, what happened next? Did he confess his undying love? Did he sweep you off your feet?"
Olivia blushed slightly, tucking her hair behind her ear. "Well… he did hold my hand. And it wasn’t like one of those casual, accidental hand brushes. He actually reached for it. It felt so natural, like we had done it a million times before."
Sophia gasped again, her eyes staring right sr Olivia"SHUT UP. This is next-level romance, Olivia! I swear, if he doesn’t ask you to be his girlfriend soon, I’m going to do it for him."
Olivia bit her lip, looking down. "Honestly, Sophia, I think I really like him. Like, more than just a crush. Tonight just felt so right. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself either. I mean, what if he’s just being nice and doesn’t actually feel the same way?"
Sophia grabbed Olivia’s hands, shaking them slightly. "Girl, are you serious right now? He planned a whole romantic evening, held your hand, looked at you like you hung the stars in the sky, and you’re wondering if he likes you? Come on!"
Olivia laughed, squeezing Sophia’s hands back. "Okay, okay, maybe you have a point. But I just… I don’t want to assume anything."
"Well, you don’t have to assume. Actions speak louder than words, and his actions are screaming, ‘I really like you, Olivia,’" Sophia said, giving her a reassuring smile. "But you know what? Just enjoy the moment. Don’t stress about what comes next. If it’s meant to be, it will be."
Olivia nodded, letting out a happy sigh. "You’re right. Tonight was special, and that’s what matters."
Sophia leaned back against the pillows, crossing her arms. "Alright, final question before we let Mia sleep in peace—did he kiss you?"
Olivia’s cheeks flushed. "No, he didn’t. But I think he wanted to. There was this moment when we were standing and he looked at me… like, really looked at me. I thought he was going to, but then he just smiled and said, ‘I had a really great time tonight.’"
Sophia groaned, dramatically falling back onto the bed. "Ugh, the tension! He’s definitely making you wait for it. That dude knows what he’s doing."
Olivia laughed softly. "I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens next."
Sophia sat up and wrapped an arm around Olivia’s shoulders. "No matter what, I am so happy for you. You deserve this, Liv."
Olivia smiled, leaning her head against Sophia’s. "Thanks, Sophia . That means a lot."
I better go show and get some sleep for school tomorrow
Olivia said as she stood up and quickly took of her dress
Sophia didn't turn away as usual, with time she already knew Olivia was a nudist and didn't mind taking off her clothes in front of everyone
Mia suddenly stirred in her sleep and mumbled, "If you guys don’t shut up, I’m throwing a pillow at you."
Both girls stopped laughing, oilvia whispering apologies to her as she walked into the bathroom excited from her date . The night had been sweet for Olivia, and as she closed her eyes, when thr water from the shower dropped on her body she couldn’t help but hope for many more nights just like this one.
Sophia smiled as she put her phone away, sinking deeper into her pillow. She hadn't expected to feel this comfortable in her new environment so soon. Moving to a new school, adjusting to dorm life, and being surrounded by strangers had felt overwhelming at first, but now… it felt right. More than right, actually. She was having fun—more than she ever imagined—especially with her new roommates.
She turned onto her side, staring at the ceiling, listening to the soft breathing of Mia sleeping and Olivia singing softly in the shower
Just weeks ago, she had worried about fitting in, even justine had wondered how it will be with all the rich kids here and she usually called them about whether she would find her place here. But now, after all the late-night talks, the random bursts of laughter, and the way they looked out for each other, she felt at home.
Mia, with her energy and playful teasing, made every moment lively. She had this way of making even the most boring situations entertaining. And Olivia—sweet, thoughtful Olivia the book woke who had now fully fallen in love —had a quiet warmth about her that made Sophia feel at ease. They were different in so many ways, yet somehow, they just… clicked.
She thought about everything that had happened that day—the classes, Olivia’s date night. Sophia couldn’t help but smile again, remembering how excited Olivia had been when she walked through the door, her eyes practically sparkling as she gushed about Jake.
Sophia had never really been the type to believe in love much, but seeing how happy Olivia had been made her think that maybe, just maybe, some stories did have happy endings.
her body relaxing into the mattress. She wasn’t sure what tomorrow would bring. She hoped she would get the text from pappies asking her to resume tomorrow, but for the first time in a long time, she wasn’t worried about it.
She had her classes, her new friends, and the start of something that felt like it could be really special. And right now, that was more than enough.
With that thought, Sophia closed her eyes into a peaceful sleep.
Chapter 46Lana had just turned the corner when she saw a stranger leave her dorm room. A guy she had never seen before. Tall, dark hair, a confident stride—definitely not someone from their usual circle. She watched as he casually walked down the hall, disappearing around the corner. Her lips curled slightly, both in amusement and irritation. So this was the guy Ryan saw Jessie with. The reason Ryan had spent half the night crashing out Lana wanted to say something to Jessie about it, but then again, what was the point? She wasn’t going to stir up unnecessary drama. If Jessie wanted to sneak around with someone else while Ryan was busy convincing himself she was the love of his life, that was her business. Maybe now, at least, Ryan would finally stop obsessing over her.She shook her head and pushed open the door to the dorm.Jessie was sitting cross-legged on her bed, scrolling through her phone, but she looked up the moment Lana walked in. Her face lit up as she saw her “Hey, Lan
Chapter 1: The AnniversarySophia hummed a soft tune as she parked her car in the driveway, her hand instinctively going to her swollen belly. She looked over at the bags of groceries and gifts that lined the passenger seat. Today was her and Ryan's fifth wedding anniversary, and despite the growing discomfort of the pregnancy, she wanted everything to be perfect. The sweet fragrance of fresh flowers filled the air as Sophia stepped inside their cozy home, struggling to balance the bags. She placed them on the counter and admired the small setup she had planned: a bouquet of white roses, Ryan's favorite cake, and a heartfelt handwritten card she had poured her soul into. She rubbed her belly gently. "Your dad's going to love this," she whispered, smiling. But in that instant, her calm was broken at the sound of heavy footsteps approaching. Ryan literally stormed into the kitchen, his face twisted with rage. He had a photo clutched in his hands, and his knuckles were white from the gri
Chapter 2: A Dangerous Choice"Your wife is in critical condition. She suffered severe trauma to her abdomen, and her injuries have put both her life and the baby's at significant risk. We need to act quickly, but…" He paused, his expression heavy. "You'll have to decide. We can only prioritize saving one—Sophia or the baby. The enormity of the decision slammed down on Ryan, shutting his mind off for a while. His lips moved but said nothing. Before he had even begun to sort his brain out, Eleanor surged forward, voice firm and steady."Save the baby," she told the doctor without turning an inch in her direction. "That child is this family's future. That counts.""Mother, shut up!" Ryan finally snapped, anger blowing up inside him. "I decide.Eleanor turned to him, her eyes narrowing. "Decide wisely, Ryan. That woman has already caused enough harm. Do you really think she's worth more than your own child?"Ryan clenched his fists, the weight of his mother's words pressing down on him.
Chapter 3: AGONYSophia froze, her heart sinking as she recognized Ryan's voice. She turned slowly, her tear-streaked face looking up at him."Ryan," she began, her voice shaking. "He's your son."Ryan's face twisted in rage as he threw forged paternity results at her feet. "Don't you dare lie to me, Sophia!" he yelled. "Lana showed me the proof. You're disgusting. Carrying another man's child and pretending it's mine?"Before Sophia could utter a word, Lana stepped forward, her expression perfectly masked with pity. "I never thought you'd stoop this low, Sophia," she said, her voice dripping with false sympathy.Grief became fury in an instant. "I know you did this, Lana!" she screamed, rising from her seat. "You forged those results. You're trying to destroy my life!"Lana scoffed, moving closer to Ryan. "Ryan, you see how delusional she is? She's trying to blame me for her mistakes."Ryan stared up at Sophia with boiling anger. "Enough of your lies, Sophia! You disgust me!"Before
Chapter 4 "What more do you want from me, Ryan? You and Lana already conspired to take everything from me," Sophia said as she dropped the bag to the floor in a fit of rage. "You made your decision already. You want me out, and I'll leave." "But Sophia, I don't want to leave you like this. Not like I care anyway, but you have nothing. I want you out of my life, but that doesn't mean I will be heartless about it," Ryan said to her. Lana stood closely behind, wondering why Ryan was suddenly indecisive about letting her go. Some part of her couldn't help but think Ryan still had a soft spot for Sophia, even despite all her efforts. She walked forward toward the arguing couple and decided to chime in, faking affection as usual. "I know things have gone bad, Sophia, but listen to Ryan. He is only looking out for you," Lana said to her. "Oh, don't you dare, Lana! Don't you start with the fake emotional nonsense, acting like you care!" Sophia snapped at Lana in a fit of rage. "Yo
Chapter 5"From the way this is quite much, I am sure the story behind it must be equally as much also, so begin talking, my sweet cousin," Sophia said immediately as they stepped away from their grandmother into the kitchen. It wasn't much, aside from it being a tardy compartment; it was just a separate room as cooking had to be done somewhere else to avoid any sort of fire outbreak. Still, they managed to make it work, just like they managed to do with everything. The kitchen had two gas stoves and some pots. It was all they needed, and they were satisfied with it."So come on now, cousin, start talking," Sophia pressed Justine further."Why are you in such a hurry to let me tell you everything? At least let us light up the stove first and begin cooking," Justine said to her, being hesitant.Sophia hurriedly grabbed the lighter, set the stove along with a pot and water, then turned to her cousin. "Now spill the beans.""Alright, tiger, you might want to slow down and reserve the ene
Chapter 6 "What's with all the yelling?" Justine said as she stretched from her bed and walked toward the bathroom. Her cousin came out of it, visibly upset. "There's no water, Justine! I can't believe this. My whole day is ruined. I knew I was going to mess it up. It sounded too good to be true anyway." Tears began to drop from Sophia's eyes. "Hey, stop this nonsense," her cousin snapped at her. "It's just water, not the end of the world." Sophia sniffled. "But how can I—" "I have a little trick," Justine interrupted, holding up a bottle of lotion and body wash. "Take this lotion and wash, apply it around your body like you're bathing. It’ll leave you smelling like flowers. You really need to learn to improvise for times like this, my dear Sophia. Now hurry up and do this; we don’t have all day!" Sophia reluctantly grabbed the lotion and wash from her cousin and walked back into the bathroom. Pouring the mixture into her hands, she began rubbing it around her body as fast
Chapter 7"Come on in!" a voice said softly from within.Sophia opened the door and stepped in. She found a pretty-looking lady whose face seemed to light up immediately upon seeing her sitting across the room. The lady looked like someone in her early forties. She had blonde hair styled into a bob and was wearing medicated glasses.Sophia guessed it had something to do with age.The table in front of the woman was covered with piles of files and books. Being a professor in this institution came with a lot of work."Good morning, Professor," Sophia greeted softly as she entered. "My name is—""Your name is Sophia Sullivan. Yes, I know. I am the one who invited you over, and I have also been expecting you," the woman interrupted Sophia without looking up from the pile of books on her table."I am sorry I kept you waiting, ma'am. I had—""It's okay, dear," the professor finally lifted her head from the table to face Sophia, interrupting her once more. "Come on, dear, have a seat."The w

Chapter 44The walk to Jessie’s dorm was quiet, aside from Ryan mumbling to himself as he rehearsed his apology."Hey, Jessie, I was a jerk yesterday… no, that sounds too formal… Jessie, I messed up, but I really like you… ugh, too desperate."Lana shook her head, she was scrolling through her phone watching him stress over every word. "Dude, relax. Just be yourself.""Yeah, easy for you to say. You're not the one about to put your heart on the line."She smirked. "Nope and I don't think I ever will be , which is why I am here getting hurt over all this , she said to herself But I am the one who told you this was a bad idea."They reached the dorm building, and Ryan took a deep breath. "Okay. Let’s do this."Lana stood back, arms crossed. "Good luck, lover boy."Ryan shot her a glare before heading inside. As he walked down the hall, Ryan could feel his heart pounding in his chest. This was it. He’d knock, she’d answer, he’d give her the chocolates and note, they’d talk, and maybe—ju
Chapter 43Ryan figured he needed to speak to Jessie. He hadn't seen or spoken to her all day—actually, not since last night’s incident. He felt like he owed her an apology, at least for how things had transpired. Leaving her mid-conversation to answer his mom’s call had been careless. He could have handled it better. Now, as he sat at the café with Lana, he found himself distracted, tapping his fingers against the table while Lana was completely busy with taking pictures of their food. He sighed. Somehow, she had convinced him to buy lunch for both of them, and now she was treating their meal like a personal photoshoot. "Are you planning to eat that or frame it?" Ryan asked, raising an eyebrow as she adjusted the angle of her phone. Lana smirked but didn’t look up. "Food this pretty deserves appreciation." She snapped another picture. "Besides, you paid, so I get to enjoy it however I want."thanks for buying by the way , you owed me after all Ryan rolled his eyes, but his mind
Chapter 42Olivia and Mia soon arrived at the dorm room, as they burst through the door. Without a word, they both rushed to Sophia and wrapped her in a tight hug.“Whoa! What’s this for?” Sophia laughed, caught off guard but secretly enjoying the warmth of their embrace.“Can’t we just hug you?” Mia teased, pulling back slightly.“Yeah, maybe we missed you,” Olivia added with a wink.Sophia narrowed her eyes playfully. “you girls can't be serious. I saw you guys this morning.” And how come you guys always seem to come in together? “Still,” Mia said, flopping onto Sophia’s bed dramatically. “A lot can happen in a few hours, plus you got the job .” and blame Olivia for that ,she is always looking for how to follow meSophia shook her head, grinning. “You two are so weird.”“We know,” Olivia said proudly. “Now, about my date—”“Ah, yes! What time does it start?” Sophia asked, straightening up. “Let’s get you all dressed up.”Olivia glanced at her phone. “In about two hours, but I ne
Chapter 41Ryan let out a dry chuckle. Yeah, well, welcome to my life. And you've always been there Lana smiled a little at that truth There was a moment’s silence before Lana spoke again. ’Okay, but about the whole professors reporting to her thing—what are you going to do about that? You can’t let this keep happening. ’Ryan sighed. 'I don't know. I was thinking about talking to my professors and asking them not to give her updates, but let's be real—if my mom wants information, she'll find a way to get it. 'Lana nodded. 'Of course, she probably has half the faculty in her pocket. 'there is a walsh auditorium for a reasonRyan rubbed his temples. Ugh, don’t even get me started on that. At this point I’d have to assume she paid someone to keep track of my attendance.Lana smiled. 'Anytime you feel the urge to disappear, just give me a call. I'll help you stage a dramatic getaway. 'you know I have your back Ryan chuckled despite himself. "Oh yeah? What’s the plan?"Lana rubbed
Chapter 40Sophia couldn’t wait to share the news with her roommates. Her heart was still racing a little from the excitement of the interview, and the thought of actually getting the job gave her a sense of accomplishment. She quickly pulled out her phone, unlocked it, and opened their group chat."Hey guys, I might be resuming work here anytime soon," she typed, her fingers moving over the keys for a moment before hitting send. The little dot indicating that the message had been delivered made her stomach have a sensation Mia was the first to reply, sending a string of celebratory emojis. "Congratulations, girl! It was never in doubt," she wrote, and Sophia couldn’t help but grin at the message. Mia always knew how to make her feel good about herself. Sophia stared at her phone, waiting for Olivia’s response, but there was no reply yet. It seemed Olivia wasn’t online at the moment. She let out a sigh of relief, feeling like she had something to talk about when Olivia did finally
Chapter 39Sophia exhaled sharply, massaging her wrist as she stepped back. A part of her felt triumphant—seeing Katrina riled up was satisfying. But she didn’t have time for all this She needed to get to Pappies on time, and dealing with Katrina wasn’t on her to-do list. Pulling out her phone, she checked the time. She hadn’t made an official appointment, which she now wondered if she should have, but there was no going back. She had to at least show up and try. As she made her way toward Pappies, the cool afternoon breeze brushed against her skin. It was a short walk from her lecture hall, but it felt unfamiliar. This was the first time she had come to this side of the school, and she took in her surroundings as she walked. The atmosphere was quieter here, with fewer students loitering around. Most of them seemed busy, either in hushed conversations or heading toward different buildings. Sophia adjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder and quickened her pace. She didn’t wa
Chapter 38As the lecturer stepped into the classroom, Sophia immediately noticed that he was different from the one they had the day before. This man looked to be in his early 40s—perhaps even younger. He carried himself with an air of confidence, his neatly pressed suit giving him a polished yet approachable appearance. Sophia was a little taken aback. She had expected someone much older in this field, considering the depth of knowledge required for public health. But then again, times were changing, and younger professionals were making their mark in academia. The lecturer walked to the center of the class, set down his materials, and offered a friendly smile. “Good morning, everyone,” he greeted. “Good morning, sir,” the class responded in unison. “My name is Dr. Reynolds, and I’ll be taking you through Public Health this semester. I expect all of you to be engaged because this course isn’t just about theories—it’s about real-world applications. Public health affects eve
