I like the fire dragon hybrid. She’s powerful, as all fire dragons are, but she also has an air of authority to her. That’s the Lycan blood in her. But because she’s a dragon, she’s inherently kind and loving. It seems funny to say that a creature that can breathe fire that is hot enough to melt a person into nothing is kind and loving, but it’s true. Well, I just got a first-hand look at when and how Phoenix and Emmi disconnect. I thought we were making good progress and I’m very thankful that I was with her when she smelled Kenzo. The students are frightened enough by her. I don’t want them to start ostracizing her more than they already do. And I'm not completely sure that she wouldn't have hurt Kenzo.“Breathe. There is no immediate danger, Phoenix.”“You don’t know that, Ajax,” she says, her higher pitched voice sounding agitated.“Do you think that Avani would quietly begin fighting if someone were here to take his son’s eggs? Everyone is excited for the dragon babies, babies that they never thought would be possible.While the others get ready for classes, Ajax leads me back to the big house.“So, are you going to tell me what’s going on or what?” Kenzo asks.“Leave it be, Kenzo. We’re obviously not meant to know what’s going on. As it is, if Ancalagon hears that someone from the outside got in and was checking out his eggs, we’ll have a huge friggin problem on our hands,” Tesha tells him.“You said that the magic you smelled on me is what’s coming for the dragons. I lead Emmi to the hospital where I’m sure my father and Kaylani are. My father has been running tests on Dion and Sena since the attack. I’m sure they struggle with that. Unlike the rest of us who had others to comfort us, no one wanted anything to do with them, not trusting them after they attacked us with The Mean Ones.Emmi’s idea of letting Phoenix tell us if they’re lying is genius. Phoenix does seem to have an understanding of things that the rest of us do not. The moment the words came out of my mouth, I knew it was the wrong thing to say. Phoenix already told me that Emmi is afraid of her fire, and yet, I was so mesmerized once again by seeing my body engulfed in flames that it came out of my mouth before my brain could stop me.As soon as she opened her eyes, they went wide as saucers, the scent of her fear spiked all around me, and she began screaming as if she really was burning alive.“Emmi!
