Samara POV
‘They’re closing in on us Mara.’
Samara Smith took a moment to glance behind her at the five wolves gaining on her before she responded to her wolf. ‘I’m going as fast as I can Rieka. We just need to make it around that ridge up ahead and then we will be on sacred ground and safe from attack by those wolves.’
Samara wasn’t too worried about the wolves chasing her through the dense forest. They would not be able to catch up to her before she made it to the old Church. Samara possessed the power of the wolf queen running through her veins and was confident that she could out run those giving chase. She knew those wolves behind her were no match for the speed and power she possessed thanks to her wolf Rieka.
What worried Samara was the yet to be revealed leader of the wolves currently chasing her in the night. How did they find out about Jamari? She worried to herself. No matter what, she could not let them get to her sister. Jamari must be protected at all costs. If the key fell into the wrong hands it would mean the end of everything.
Samara glanced behind her and noticed that the distance between her and the wolves chasing her was getting wider. She sent up a thankful prayer to the Moon Goddess before turning back around and looking ahead. The clouds parted in the night sky allowing the full moon to shine its light ahead at the old Church ruins that were finally coming into sight.
The old Church is the ruins left behind of the Sacred Temple dedicated to the Moon Goddess in ancient times. It was abandoned five centuries ago and no one knows what happened to the caretakers of it. Everyone in the Church disappeared in the dead of the night with no trace of what happened or where they disappeared to.
It was a mystery that many have tried to solve over the years with no progress. The Church had always been a place of peace when it was still in use, but since the disappearance five hundred years ago no one has been able to attack another while on the grounds. Some mystical aura attacks anyone that tries to harm another while inside its walls. And to date no one has survived an attack from this mystical aura.
Due to this, no one dares to attack anyone that seeks refuge at the old Church ruins. You would think that there would be a lot of people who would take advantage of the ruins and make a home there but whatever mystical aura that attacks those who attempt harm also slowly drains the life of those who stay within its walls for too long. Because of this the ruins have become a place for rival packs to seek peace with each other.
The Sacred Temple has been a big part of Jamari’s studies since she first learned about the Church. She once told Samara that she felt a connection to the old Church ruins and she couldn’t help herself from wanting to know more about them. No one has been able to spend as much time as Jamari has at the ruins without slowly dying. It was just one of the things that made her twin sister special to the Wolf community, at least in her sister’s eyes. Samara has done a lot to hide this bit of news from other wolves in order to keep her sister safe.
Samara pushed herself to go faster to reach the old Church ruins up ahead, getting closer by the second. Come on Samara. You can make it. You have to make it. For Jamari’s sake you have to make it to that Church.
As the distance between Samara and the Church grew smaller and smaller she breathed a sigh of relief. ‘We’re almost there Rieka. We’re going to make it.’
Out of nowhere a huge black wolf slammed into Samara’s side before she was able to leap over the wall and into the Church courtyard. Samara went flying fifty feet away before she was able to catch herself and get up on her four legs. She turned towards her attacker and let out a ferocious growl that left many rooted in fear.
The black wolf looked her up and down before chuckling loudly. “You do not scare me little wolf.” He snorted out loud before shapeshifting into a naked man. With a snap of his fingers clothing appeared on his body covering him from Samara’s gazing eyes. The man now stood before Samara in an expensive looking all black suit with all the accessories that screamed money. Who is this guy?
Samara’s ears perked up as she heard the five wolves that were chasing her getting closer to her and the mystery man standing before her. Samara assessed her opponent and concluded that he must be the leader of the wolves who have been chasing her. She stood still, studying the mystery man and searching for weaknesses she could exploit before the other wolves appeared, when his next words broke through her concentration and realization sank in. Those wolves weren’t just chasing her, they were leading her to this place, and to their leader hiding outside the entrance. This was all a trap!
‘How are we going to get out of this Mara? That’s not a normal wolf standing in front of us. In fact, I don’t think he’s a wolf at all.’ Rieka whimpered in Samara’s head. Samara chose to ignore her wolf so she could focus on the man standing in front of her, taunting her for her stupidity.
“Come now Samara, did you really think that my wolves were stupid enough to allow you to reach a no attack zone?” He tsked at her, going as far as putting up his index finger and waving it back and forth while he verbalized the tsk.
Samara growled in frustration. She had been corralled and now this mystery man stood between her and her only option for safety. If she tried to run around or past him he would just knock her back again. And she couldn’t run back the way she came from because the wolves that were chasing her were spread out a hundred yards away, effectively preventing her from being able to run in any direction.
Seeing no other option Samara decided to stand her ground and shifted back into her human form in order to talk with the handsome man standing before her. Unlike the man who quickly clothed himself upon shifting, Samara stood proudly in her nudity with her head held high. Samara grew up with wolves so nudity was not an issue for her, especially when she had nothing to be ashamed about. Samara was revered as the most beautiful she-wolf in her pack, the Crescent Moon pack. She stood at five foot ten inches and had long beautiful legs that were often admired by males and females alike within her pack. Her slim waist and ample bosom had many wolves vying to be her lover. Samara watched as the man in front of her looked her body over from head to foot with admiration in his eyes.
Samara rolled her eyes before saying out loud, “Are you going to stare at me or tell me what you are after and why you had your wolves chase me to the old Church in the middle of the night?” She said, acting bored in order to hide her apprehension.
The man’s eyes snapped up to her face and a wide smile spread out across his face. “Straight to the point I see.” He said, giving one last longing look to her body before continuing. “You know what I want from you Samara. And it isn’t that amazing body you’re flaunting over there. Give me the key.” He growled, causing Samara to stiffen despite her attempt to not be affected.
Samara feigned innocence. “What key are you talking about? The one to my bedroom perhaps?” She purred…lifting an eyebrow in question.
“Do not patronize me little wolf!” The man responded in anger. “I know you have the key and you are going to give it to me or DIE!”
It was then that Samara realized that this man had no idea what the key was. He only knew that she had it and thought to scare her into handing it over. “Who are you to come here and order me, the Wolf Queen, to give you something that isn’t yours?” She yelled back at him.
Samara was trying to distract the mystery man so she could make a run for the Church. Even in her human form she should be faster than the man standing in front of her. She just needed to get around him and make it over the stone wall behind him and she would be safe from his attack.
The man chuckled evily when he introduced himself to Samara. “I am King of the Demons you pathetic Queen of lowly wolves.” He said standing tall in pride. This caused Samara to halt in surprise, missing her opportunity to run to the Church. “That key is no more yours than it is mine, but I intend to make it mine before the night is out. So tell me little Wolf Queen, where is the key?”
Jamari’s POV It has been one week since the disappearance of my twin sister Samara and I was getting desperate for answers. “You’re sure this will work?” I ask the shop owner skepitcally. “Oh yes Miss. Just follow the directions exactly as they wrote it and you will be able to contact anyone you are searching for whether it be in this life or the next.” She says to me encouragingly. I was still skeptical of the incantation but I needed to find answers on my sister's disappearance and the police and my pack were hitting dead ends at every turn they took. Forcing a smile I thank the shop owner and tell her I will take the incantation and all of the supplies that I will need for the spell. After another thirty minutes of the shop owner and I wandering around the shop gathering the items I would need to do the spell I was finally ready to leave the shop and head home. “Thank you for your help today.” I told the shop owner, while walking
Jamari’s POV As I sit in the middle of the circle that I drew in the middle of my tiny living room, I look around, waiting for something to happen. I wasn’t sure exactly what was supposed to happen when I summoned my sister, but I am pretty sure that SOMETHING is supposed to happen. Glancing down, I re-read the instructions written on the scroll that I hold. “SHIT!!”, I said out loud. I drew the damn circle wrong which explains why the summoning spell didn’t work. I glance around my small living room uneasy about what I might have accidentally done instead of summoning my sister. When after another couple minutes nothing bad happened I grabbed my bowl of lambs blood and added the last part to my circle that I had previously forgotten. Before moving on, I inspected my circle to ensure that no other parts were wrong or missing. I didn’t want to accidentally summon a demon and sell my soul to him by doing this spell wrong. That wo
Levi’s POV I stand there watching the wolfless werewolf slowly inspect every inch of my face. I could see from her expression that she liked what she saw. This caused me to smirk at her and raise an eyebrow in question. When the woman blushed, I felt a twitch in my little buddy downstairs which caused me to take a closer look at her in interest. She was a scrawny thing from what I could see under her baggy t-shirt and sweats. I couldn’t see much of her boobs, but I believe them to be a handful size maybe. Why does this woman dress so frumpy!? She looks to barely be old enough to drink and yet she dresses like an old maid. I frown at the thought. I watch as the woman casts her eyes downward when she sees my frown. Does she think that I don't like what I see? I mean, I am not a fan of her clothing choices, and I am not sure what body type was hidden behind the frump, but she had a beautiful face. The freckles that I could see scattered across her n
Jamari’s POV What is wrong with me? Drooling over a demon that may very well be here to take my soul. I look into the man’s beautiful galaxy eyes and wonder if giving my soul to this man would really be all that bad. He is absolutely gorgeous, I sigh dreamily. I glance back over at the woman with the beautiful cocoa skin, that she showed a lot of, and think again about their relationship. A stab of jealousy courses through me when I think about them being a couple, even though they already denied it. What is she to him if not a lover? Shaking myself from my thoughts I wonder if I should tell the pair what I had learned from my sister. My intuition was telling me I could trust them, but still I hesitate. They were both demons afterall, and Samara told me it was the Demon King who attacked and killed her. I sat there quitely weighing the pros and cons of telling them about their King and was grateful that they gave me the quiet I needed to think. After a few moments I decided to fi
Jamari’s POV I stand rooted to my spot, staring at the man that my sister accused of murdering her. He denies being the one to kill Samara, and strangely I believe him. What is it about him that causes me to have total faith in him when we’ve only just met? I watch him as he paced around my tiny living room, running his fingers through his hair. How I longed to go to him and ease his anxiety, but I can’t do anything until I found out exactly what he meant when he said You. I glance again at the woman standing in my dining room with her arms crossed below her breasts and a thoughtful look on her face. “Who are you?” I find myself asking out loud. The woman glances over at me in surprise. I feel Levi’s eyes burning into me from the side but I don't dare to look his way just yet. The woman glances over at Levi before responding. “I am Ruth, Levi’s second in command and sometimes babysitter.” She replies, rolling her eyes at her King. I frown at her response. If his second in comma
Jamari’s POV It has been one week since Levi and Ruth appeared in my living room and I miss him. How dare he kiss me senseless like that with the promise of more, just for him to disappear for a week!? My Demon King really is a cocky bastard. I didn’t realize I was pouting until I heard my mother’s voice break through my thoughts. “Don’t pout Jamari. It’s not ladylike.” I roll my eyes at my mother’s scolding and hear her huff in annoyance. Sighing, I turn to my mother. “Sorry mom. I have a lot on my mind.” Her eyes soften as she walks over to me, enveloping me in a comforting hug. “We all have a lot on our minds Jamari. Until your sister is back home safely I don’t think anyone in the pack will be able to rest easily.” I gulp down my sadness and look at my mother’s tearfilled eyes. I should tell her about the spell I performed and that Samara is not coming home, but I can’t bring myself to it. The pack says they
Levi’s POV One week. It has been one whole week and I can’t seem to get Jamari out of my head. That kiss that we shared was not enough to satiate the hunger that I feel for her. Countless times I wanted to go to her, just to see her and touch her. But I had to control this urge so I didn’t scare her away. Not that she seemed scared when she was in my arms, kissing me. I feel a grin tug up the corners of my lips at the memory of her in my arms. “Thinking about Jamari again?” I hear Ruth snicker from beside me. “She must have really made an impression on you for you to remember her name.” I tease her. “It’s not like you to remember the names of, well…anyone really.” I chuckle. Ruth rolls her eyes and sits herself in the chair in front of my desk, putting her feet criss cross style atop my desk. I would yell at her for the disrespect but I would only get a dagger chucked at my head again. As fun as our back and forths are, I am anxious to hear the news she has brought me about
Levi’s POV Ruth shakes her head at my disregard for paperwork, then continues explaining her process to me. “I grouped together all of the demons that are able to teleport between the human and demon realm and put them on page one and the top of page two. I think our imposter is more than likely on that section of the list.” I glance down at pages one and two, taking in the names on the list more seriously. Could one of these demons be the one that is masquerading as the Demon King? I glance back up at Ruth when she continued to speak. “I then went through and got rid of any of the newer demons and those that aren’t able to hide their presence. This demon was able to go undetected in the human realm, even after using his powers to shift to a wolf and back. This leads me to believe he is more than likely from a top tier demon clan.” “That would make sense. Not many demons have the ability to reign in their aura as well as this guy has been able to do.” I get up to pace my office fl
Dear Readers, Thank you all for supporting me and my first book Rise of the Alpha Queen. It has been a thrilling ride and I can't believe that I have reached the end of my first book! I love reading the reviews readers have left me about my book, even the ones that are less than positive. I take them in stride and try to be better for future books. So please continue to let me know what your thoughts are on the story. I will be spending the next month going back through and editing my chapters, something I didn't have as much time as I would have liked while writing with a deadline these past few months, and then I will start on book 2. I hope to have book 2 started by the end of September or begining of October. Thank you again for all of your support! I hope you have all enjoyed watching Jamari move into her role as the Alpha Queen. Heidi Monath :) **UPDATE** Book 2: Alpha Queen's Reluctant Mate is now available! Hope you all enjoy as we dive more into the Fae Realm.
Jamari’s POVAnxiety courses through my body as we prepare to depart for the Vampire Realm. Aside from my few visits to the Demon Realm and my visit to the Garden of Eden, I haven’t left the Human Realm often. What would the Vampire Realm be like? Would it be eternal darkness so the vampires don’t turn to dust in the sun?A chuckle of nervous energy escapes me at the thought. I doubt the vampires burst into flames in the sun like the movies portray. I’m pretty sure that Eve had some vampires with her when she was trying to get into the Church grounds last week.Another reason for my anxiety is the Vampire King. Lucern. A shiver passes through me at the thought of his name. The interest my body shows in just his name has me concerned for how I will react upon meeting him. If Levi and Kenji’s theory is correct, he could possibly be one of my mates as well. I don’t know if I am ready for another mate just yet. I finally have a working relationship with both Levi and Kenji, and I have Re
Kenji’s POV “When do we leave for the Vampire Realm?” I would love nothing more than to put off going to the Vampire Realm so I can keep Jamari between just Levi and I a little longer, but we need to release Remiel from his prison quickly. “I have had Ruth send word to Lucern that we are requesting an audience with him and Morgana.” Levi tells me distractedly. Levi has been quiet since we saw his mother outside of the Church yesterday afternoon. “What is troubling you Levi?” I ask him, worried that something might be wrong. “You have been quiet since we came back from the Church and that is not like you.” That was an understatement of course. Levi is the exact opposite of quiet and has been the whole time that I’ve known him. Levi glances in my direction, a frown on his face. “Something has been bothering me since we last spoke with my mother.” He tells me, moving to sit on the couch beside me. “This sounds serious.” I turn my body so I am facing Levi. “It could be a disaste
Eve’s POVIt’s been three days since I was last at the old Church ruins, unable to bring myself to come back here after the memories from long ago resurfaced. My eyes roam over the courtyard, as memories of happier times floods me, bringing tears to my eyes. We were supposed to get the rest of our lives together, or at least the rest of his life, instead our life together was cut short, shorter than even humans and their partners. There is no way that Shappa is still alive in the Fae Realm. Time moves differently over there making more time to have passed there than it has here. I let out a deep sigh as the weight of my grief once again threatens to weigh me down. I would give anything to at least get the chance to see my daughter again. Even if she is all grown up. A tear slides down my face. I pray to whichever God or Goddess that will listen that my Father was never able to get his hands on her and make her a part of his harem. Grandfathers shouldn’t have such thoughts. Magic sw
Jamari’s POVI’m not sure why Levi thinks the book will magically appear in the desk when it wasn’t here the first time that we checked, but if there is a chance that he could be right about the book being returned to the desk, I am willing to try it. Moving over to the desk, I take a seat in the chair behind the desk and look around. A feeling suddenly washes over me causing a look of surprise to appear on my face. My eyes snap up to where Kenji and Levi stand on the other side of the desk, their attention solely on me. I glance back down at the desk as I run my hand over the top with my palm facing down. Magic sizzles against my skin, surprising me. I jerk my hand back as I stare down at the empty space on the desk in bewilderment. “Do you guys feel that?” I ask, looking back up to Kenji and Levi. They put their hands over the top of the desk like what I had done, holding it there for longer than what I did, before pulling away and shaking their heads.A frown forms on my brow. M
Jamari’s POVA wholeness fills my mind the moment that Rieka returns back to her place at the forefront with me. The feel of her return wakes me from my sleep, the first restful sleep I have experienced in days. The dream that has plagued me since our run in with Eve thankfully didn’t haunt my dreams for once. ‘I’m sorry Mari, I didn’t mean to wake you.’ Rieka whispers in apology. A laugh moves through our link from me. ‘Why are you whispering? We’re talking inside my head.’ Fully awake now, I attempt to see the clock on the table beside Kenji, but his giant shoulder is blocking my view. I let out a quiet sigh, giving up on seeing what time it is so I don’t wake either of the men surrounding me. ‘She’s whispering because you tend to broadcast your conversations into our heads.’ Levi’s voice fills my mind as he pulls my body so I lay curved against his naked body. Interest begins to stir within me, the jump of his cock on my ass giving away his interest as well. ‘Sorry Handsome, I
Rieka’s POV‘I will need to search for her within your mind Mari.’ I tell Jamari, as I think of the best way to find and talk to Athena. Mari is right, searching through all of these books isn’t getting us any closer to finding the answer to releasing Remiel and Lucifer from their prison. Getting in contact with Athena is a long shot, but if it helps us find the book we’re searching for sooner, then it is worth trying, even if it will make me weak for a while after. I’ll just leave that part out though, Mari would tell me to forget it and continue to look through all of these books. I can’t let her do that though. ‘So does that mean that you will be gone again?’ Mari asks me, sadness coating her words. Both Kenji and Levi make a sound of surprise at Jamari’s words. ‘Gone again?’ They both ask at the same time, their wide eyes turning to look at Jamari. Guilt moves through me at the reminder that I disappeared for a couple of days. Jamari had called out to me many times during that t
Levi’s POVI glance up in surprise when I sense Jamari’s presence appearing within the library. Glancing at the watch wrapped around my left wrist, I realize that it has only been four hours since I sent Jamari away with Kenji to rest. Kenji walks through the portal behind Jamari, his hands raised in defense before I can question their quick return. Jamari stops to stare at me, a defensive look taking over her face. “Don’t start with me Levi.” She grumbles, making her way to the table scattered with books. “I couldn’t sleep so I might as well be of some use here.”I watch Jamari flip through books for a few minutes, my presence completely forgotten in her quest to find the spell to set Remiel free. I turn my attention back to Kenji, raising a brow in question. Averting his eyes, he pretends to be interested in the pile of books on the table beside him. ‘You weren’t supposed to return until she got at least six hours of rest.’ I berate through our link, my arms moving up to fold over
Jamari’s POVI jerk awake as my dream starts to fade from my mind. That was a weird dream. And far more vivid than any that I am used to having. I shake my head to clear my thoughts. All of the stress of the last few days must be catching up to me. Why else would the same dream be plaguing me everytime I close my eyes?I let out a tired sigh, my eyes wandering to the clock on the bedside table. 3:33 am. A yawn escapes me, reminding me that I only just went to bed two hours ago. Kenji begins to stir beside me, his arm searching for me in his sleep.None of us have gotten much sleep these past few days. All of us running around the clock with little breaks for rest and food in between. Despite searching through all of the books that we found with the words Forbidden Magic in the title, we still haven’t found what we are looking for.Two days have gone by since we first entered the hidden library, and we are still no closer to releasing Remiel from his prison than we were before we enter
