Chapter 2

Cora's POV

Four weeks later...

I stared at the piece in my hands, my body trembling with fear as I saw the two faint lines glaring back at me. It was clear.

Positive.

My body shook with intense fear.

I was... Pregnant?

"No... No... No." I shook my head, not wanting to believe what I had just saw.

"This can't be..." I muttered to myself, breaking the stick and dumped it in the trash can. I felt suffocated, as I paced back and forth in my tiny bedroom.

Me. Pregnant?

I just couldn't believe it. Even though this couple of weeks, my body had felt off, I never for once thought it was due to pregnancy, cause why should it?

I just clocked eighteen today, and I didn't even know who my mate was, so any sign of pregnancy, will definitely ruin me. Not only will it ruin me, it will ruin my entire family. My family and I will be punished by the Alpha.

I will be banished and my family, they will become a castaway in the pack!

No no no no. I shook my head in denial.

"This is just a piece of plastic, it definitely can't tell me the real result."

But it did.

"Miss Cora, your test results confirms that you're indeed pregnant," The doctor said, freezing me to a spot.

"What? It... It can't be doctor." I said, my voice trembling with fear, "Tell me it's a prank doctor."

The doctor, who was a tall man with kind eyes gave me a weak smile.

"It's positive, Miss Cora. You can check it out yourself." He said, passing the piece of paper to me, which felt heavy in my hands.

My eyes scanned through the paper, and my heart thumped widely in my eyes when I spotted the word positive for the second time that morning.

It was true.

"I'm... pregnant?" I whispered, still not believing it.

The doctor nodded, "Yes, you're four weeks pregnant, Miss Cora." He confirmed.

I stared at him, my mind was as blank as a canvas, small streaks of tears escaping my eyes.

By the time I reached home, my father was waiting for me in the living room. The house was tensed and from the look of things, he was extremely angry and furious.

I took in a deep breath and entered the house, greeting my father.

"I just got a call from the hospital." My father began and I froze.

"Wh..at?" I couldn't help but stutter as my body shuddered in fear.

What does that mean? Does it mean?

No, no, no, no. It can't be. The doctor couldn't be so mean.

As if that was not enough, my step mother walked into the living room and in her hand was the broken pregnancy piece I had thrown in my waste bin.

I covered my mouth in fear, desperately wishing for the ground to open up and swallow me.

"Honey, what the doctor said is true.“ My step mother said, passing the pregnancy piece to dad.

I began shaking my head, not knowing what to say—not knowing how to handle the situation. Dad stared at the piece and took in a deep breath.

It was all out and from the look on my father's face, he was filled with rage. When he directed his gaze back at me, his eyes were bloodshot.

Dad strode towards me, his face like that of someone who was ready to kill. When Dad reached my front, he clasped his hand around my neck, choking me.

"Who is the father, Cora!?" Dad growled, his tone void of any emotion, and his look like that of a killer.

"Dad, I... I..."

"Who is the father, Cora? Don't make be repeat myself!" Dad demanded again, tightening his grip on my neck.

"I... I..." I stuttered, tears dripping from my eyes.

"Cat got your tongue, Cora?" Vanessa taunted, a wicked smirk on her face. Rage filled me. It was all her fault. She caused all these!

"Answer me!" Dad yelled, his tone clipped.

"I... I... I don't know..." I finally said, and different emotions flashed through dad's face, but the dominant of it all was disgust.

"You don't know?" Dad scoffed, releasing his grip on my neck. "You don't know who got you pregnant?"

I nodded my head, and before I could even process what was happening, I found myself on the ground, holding my cheeks as tears spilled from my eyes.

My dad had slapped me.

"You whore! You don't know who got you pregnant! So ridiculous!" My step mother joined, walking towards me.

"I... I... I don't know his name, I..." I stuttered.

It was true.

Heck, I couldn't even remember what had happened that night. All I remembered was that I found myself on the bed with a stranger and was stark naked.

"Shut up!" Dad yelled, gripping my collar and dragging me to my feet. Dad face was filled with so much rage. "Do you realize what you've done? Do you understand how badly this could ruin us?"

Tears streamed down my face, "I... I didn't mean to—"

"Just shut up, Cora!" He snarled, "You didn't mean to? You didn't mean to ruin all that I've worked for with that... that bastard in your womb? You know Cora. You know I'm trying to win the Alpha's favour after all that happened, you knew that and yet you... you did this?"

"Dad... I'm so sorry." I cried, my body shuddering with fear. I've never seen Dad this angry before, even when I broke his most expensive antique, Dad was never this angry, so seeing him this angry shook me with intense fear.

"You listen to me Cora. You will find him. You will find that male wolf that did this to you, and you will fix this quietly." Dad seethed.

"I... I don't know—"

"And if you fail Cora," Dad's eyes were bloody, his tone threatening, "I'll disown you, and if that isn't enough," Dad leaned down, his face inches from mine, his eyes filled with intense rage, "I'll kill you myself."

With that, Dad released me making me shudder in fear as I fell to the ground.

"Hmph! So foolish!" My step mother scoffed, "You're lucky because the Alpha just sent us an invitation to his dinner party today!" She added, throwing a piece of paper at my face. "Don't screw this up, Cora."

I didn't respond. I just couldn't. I held the piece of paper in my hand, tears streaming down my face. I stared at the invitation letter knowing this was what would determine whether I would live or die by my father's hand.
