Chapter 23: Sick Evan [1073 WC]

It was pitch black outside when I left the restaurant. I opened up the umbrella I had as the rain poured heavily and started to walk back home.

The good thing is that Mandy was there to look after my twins as I decided to pay off the remaining hours I needed to work.

When I arrived at our house, Mandy was already gone which is what I have expected given that it is already late at night. Evan and Zoey were already asleep. I got ready to sleep as well when I heard Evan whimpering.

I knelt down in front of him, gently shaking his shoulders thinking he was probably having nightmares.

“Evan, Mommy’s here,” I called, caressing his shoulder, but his whimper grew louder and this time it sounded like a whimper from pain.

I placed my palm over his forehead and anxiousness filled me as I felt his high temperature.

“Mommy,” Evan whimpered with his eyes shut as beads of sweat formed on his forehead.

He was so hot and the only thing I knew I should do was to bring him to the hospital.
