70 Do As I Say

Kayla's POV

Under the cover of the dark and pouring rain, I returned to The Obsidian Pack.

I halted my steps in front of Alpha's house. Staring at the red mansion that held memories of my childhood and adolescence, a bitter feeling welled up within me.

I had played hide-and-seek with my mother in the garden of this house, and I had sat in my father's lap in the study, listening to him read stories to me.

But now, six years later, I have not only lost my mother but also the home that once provided me with infinite warmth.

I composed my emotions and schooled my expression before once again stepping into this familiar yet unfamiliar place.

"You're back, good," Alexander said as he sat regally in the center of the living room, a self-satisfied look on his face.

"Have a seat. I have something to discuss with you."

"I think I'll stand," I coldly refused Alexander's meager hospitality, standing firm and setting myself in opposition to him.
