71 The Missing Friend

Amber's POV

"I haven't been able to reach Kayla for two days now. Peter, what if something has happened to her?"

Carefully closing the door to the hospital room to avoid waking the sleeping Daisy, I led Peter to the corridor outside.

"Kayla is an adult. She knows what she's doing. Don't worry too much," Peter replied, without even looking up from his phone.

Seeing my husband's indifferent demeanor, I gave him an annoyed glare.

"But she's also a mother to a child! Don't forget, Daisy just had surgery! If it were you, would you go for two whole days without caring for your child?"

Perhaps sensing my frustration, Peter finally closed his phone and toned down his earlier nonchalant attitude.

"Okay, sweetheart, I admit you have a point. Let's rewind to the night she left. What did Kayla say to you on the phone?"

"Um... Kayla told me that her father summoned her as an Alpha, so she had to return to the Pack immediately..."

I strained to recall the details of my conversation with Kayla on th
