Jenni's POV I was in the royal garden with the maids overseeing as they gathered the flowers that would be placed in the flower vases inside the palace when I noticed men trooping out the doors of the palace. I figured that they were the werecouncil members and the other people who Kendrick invited to welcome the Lycan Princess which turned out to be that brat, Audrey. That suspicion made me pay more attention to them and I noticed that their body postures were totally giving off annoyance and so much negativity. I was too far off to know exactly which emotions they were radiating but it was obvious they were annoyed. Or did Audrey not come out to see them? That stupid girl had told us that she was going to check out her room and rest a little bit shortly after she arrived. We couldn't try to stop her or convince her to just see the people who were waiting for her so we let her go off. The werecouncil members and the other men even believed that she wouldn't take too much time
Audrey's POV I yawned loudly as I woke up and looked out the window. The sun was presently at its zenith, which meant that I had been sleeping for about five hours or more. Nothing could compare to a good night's sleep though. I frowned at the memory of the battle and even more on remembering that the Alpha of the invading pack had gotten away. He was really smart to have edged away from the hottest parts of the fight. I also felt slightly bad that the people had to experience a battle in their present state all because of me. It would just have to be the price of having me here in their pack. I just hoped that nothing else happened though. That just brought something else to mind. The occurrence of that attack reminded me that I was supposed to have sent my parents to the Lycan kingdom. I needed to arrange for that immediately. "Eric!" I called out and got no response. "Eric!" I repeated but it seemed he was not nearby. I stood up from my bed and immediately went to the bathr
Audrey's POV I watched with a heavy heart as Kendrick lay there on the ground crumpled and in pain. That was usual with whenever he was given the punishment of flogging but today however, he lay there a little longer than usual and it was slightly worrying. His behavior since we met after resting from the battle had been weird also and I didn't know what to think. In the throneroom, he had been strangely in a good mood and even light-heartedly challenged me multiple times. One would think that with how much I emphasized on respect, I would be angry about that but surprisingly, I liked it. I liked his facial expressions while he tried to change my mind on different issues and continually failed. When he finally left the throneroom, I couldn't stay there for too long before I had the desire to see him again. It was crazy, I knew it but I still wanted to do it anyway. But when I finally saw him, he was saying something that made me feel slightly angry. Okay, maybe it wasn't just sli
Aubrey's pov. Kendrick hesitated only briefly but he seem to think it better before rising. He nodded once and disappeared out of my sight. I almost smiled, it felt really good letting out my hatred on him. Though I had to admit it wasn't as strong but the desire to revenge overshadowed everything else. I was freed with nothing to do at the moment, my parents had insisted on going to prepare for their journey tomorrow. I suspected dad knew I had an ulterior motive which was why he declared tomorrow as their departure day. Whichever one, my lycan parents would take over after their arrival. Eric was away at the moment too, something about helping them prepare. I walked towards the kitchen having recalled that I had accepted the maid's decision to eat. "My lady." A ginger haired maid greeted. I waved at her and demanded to have my food sent to the dining. Something in me just wanted to be out so eating in my room felt negative. I sat at the dining crossed leg and awaited my breakfa
Audrey's pov There was silence as we all processed what had just occurred. Kendrick dismissed the doctor and turned to me. "I should go in and see how she's doing." I nodded, I also wished I could do the same, but I knew better. Jenni wouldn't want to see me so I trudged away from the arena. But my mind was running in circles, the wheels in my head were rotating at an insane speed. Who could have tried to poison Jenni? As far as I knew, the maid had served us together and we had eaten that way. Whoever had done that should have poisoned me alongside too. The only solution I saw was to have a word with the maid. She was the only one in the kitchen when I had gone there so any explanation I desired was with her. Her ginger hair beckoned to me as I saw her silhouette in tbe kitchen focused on dicing the onions she had set on the board. I cleared my throat to announce my presence. "My lady" She bowed respectfully and I nodded. I glanced around the kitchen to make sure no one was
Audrey's pov "When she's back, I'll call for Maria, with both of you present I'm sure we will get a clue." He was right. We didn't end up calling for Maria. Jenni had already heard me when I talked about poisoning and she was beyond restless, she insisted there was no need calling for Maria as it will give her enemies an advantage. I wondered who those enemies were but we all knew she was referring to me. So I suggested we go to the kitchen right where the incident happened. "I have no doubt you poisoned me." Jenni was saying while we all found our way to where we were going. "Jenni-" Kendrick warned but she was having none of it. "No, we ate together but only for me to get poisoned while she remains healthy, come on. You can tell something is fishy." "Did you eat from the same plate?" Kendrick asked, he wasn't asking you know but to make a point known. He was defending me. Jenni scoffed deciding not to answer the question. We had arrived and Kendrick drew a chair out for Jen
Maria shook her head as she began to speak frantically. "I'm sorry my lady... I mixed up the plates... it's my fault, I got confused." The stupid girl couldn't do a job properly and almost got me killed. The poison wasn't meant to kill anyway, a good thing since I ended up talk it. It was meant to weaken and cause Aubrey pain, so she wouldn't be able to keep seducing my husband and acting all mighty for days. I deepened me elbow and I saw her wince in pain. "So you tried to kill me?" I said. "No,.. no.. my lady. I would never do that... It was a mistake!" Maria was hysteric, pleading with all that she had, she was crying already, her eyes red. "You know what would happen if I say that you were the one who poisoned the food right? Because in a way you did" Maria nodded now full on bawling, she clasped her fingers over her mouth to prevent her cries from echoing. "Please my lady.. " "Kendrick will kill you for touching me, his wife." I said again because I needed to instill fear i
Audrey's pov After everything, I started hearing some noises outside. It sounded like a fight was going on, or about to start. That caught my attention, as I stormed out to check. Oh no! Just like I thought, a fight was really going on, but it was just a fight, it was more like a war. The rogue pack that we fought with recently were back, and they seemed like they were in for a big one. The leader stood in front of them, and glared at me. Slowly, I backed away out of fear and suddenly felt someone's hand around mine. I flinched, and was about moving away when I saw that it was Kendrick;he stood beside me in defense, with his eyes fixed on the rogues pack. "Why are you here? Aren't you scared to be back here?" Eric shouted from the back of us, and I glanced back to see the whole pack members assembled behind us. The leader chuckled inwardly, before the dirty frown settled on his face again. "We are not here for any of you, we are here for him," he said, po
