The Curse Of BloodMoon Pack

Jake's POV

I felt a shiver run through my body as the werecouncil men announced that the Blood Moon pack was cursed. My brain immediately ran into overdrive as different questions coursed into my mind.

How could the pack get cursed without anyone knowing? And why would someone curse the pack? Which of the pack members would curse the pack? How would we find the person and request for a reversal of the curse?

'Some curses reverse by themselves with time and others require sacrifices or other things', I remembered one of the councilmen saying and frowned.

'How long would the curse last if it was to get reversed by itself? What would be the requirements to neutralize the curse that was placed on my pack?', I wondered.

"What is this curse? When did it happen? I have only been Alpha for about two years and so far, I haven't developed any enemies", Kendrick asked when he finally spoke up.

He was right though, I hadn't even considered the question he asked at all. What I had been concerned about was how the curse would end, forgetting that one needed to know what disease he was suffering from before getting medication.

Surprisingly, the councilmen only chuckled in response and Kendrick and I looked at ourselves in confusion. What exactly was funny about the question?

"The curse initially had nothing to do with you", one of the men spoke up after they laughed for a while.

"Initially?", Kendrick picked out and I almost patted his shoulder, pleased at his impressiveness.

"Over a hundred years ago, a curse was laid on your pack"

Even Kendrick's father hadn't been alive as at then, how come we had to suffer for a crime we knew nothing about? That was unfair.

"A rogue lycan had stumbled into the pack because he was wounded but the people of the pack had murdered him out of fear even though he was innocent."

"Why were they afraid?", I blurted out even though I was the one who had told Kendrick to handle the talking.

"Lycans and werewolves didn't have much of a relationship then. They lived in their own territories without attacking each other but once the boundary was crossed, the intruder was murdered whether it was an accidental or intentional entry."

"So why did he come to our pack if he knew the informal rule?", Kendrick questioned.

"Rogue lycans are not allowed to enter the Lycan territory but that lycan was forced to try returning home as his wife and child were sick and at the point of death. He was attacked by his people and in the process of trying to escape entered your pack's territory only to be killed there."

"So how was that the fault of our people? His people were the ones to blame!", Kendrick complained.

"From what we can tell, both parties were cursed"

"So what exactly is the curse on my pack?", Kendrick sighed.

"It is exactly what your pack is experiencing. The curse was that because of your pack's hand in his death and that of his family, your pack would gradually revert back to being mere wolves which lived at the mercy of others", one of the councilmen pronounced and Kendrick bowed his head in frustration.

"So how can this curse be canceled?", I inquired.

"Well, the curse would have never began to manifest itself if not for your Alpha here"

"How?", Kendrick and I exclaimed.

"The Moon goddess had been reluctant to fulfill the man's dying wishes since your pack wasn't fully in the wrong which was why the curse took so long to exhibit itself. So she sent a lycan to your pack to see how your pack would act and even mated her to him but... She has refused to tell us exactly what you did but just revealed that you broke her"

Audrey.

Audrey was the only mate Kendrick ever had but he rejected her complaining about how she was weak which was a despicable excuse.

My childhood friend, Audrey, had been a softhearted person so I could understand how it was possible for Kendrick's rejection to have broken her. I didn't see her after he rejected her so I had no idea how hurt she was before dying.

But wait, Audrey was a lycan? Audrey? How? Her parents were both werewolves.

I didn't ponder on that for too long as my heart soon twisted in pain on remembering that my friend, Audrey was gone. Not a day had gone by in the past few years without me thinking of her but yet it still hurt like I was just hearing the news.

I knew Kendrick felt that I didn't know they were mated and he rejected her but her family had revealed that fact to me. I had been tempted to march to the palace and beat him to a pulp on hearing but her parents had restrained me since he was the future Alpha.

On finding out that I was his Beta, I had wanted to refuse the position but reminded myself that the position was only to assist him in helping the people.

It was while working with him that I had let go of my fury at him, it was not his fault that she had run out of the party only to get pushed to her death. My anger at whoever had pushed her off that cliff was still firmly intact though. I would certainly make that person meet the same fate that he had served my friend after immensely torturing him.

I turned to look at Kendrick and saw how pale he seemed. I had heard that he had been quite affected by her death, probably feeling guilty but I never knew how true that was until today.

I was pretty sure his guilt had been emphasized by getting the information that if he had just treated her well, the pack would not be having the issue that they presently had.

"So since we missed that attempt of the Moon goddess to save us from the curse, what next?", I frained since Kendrick was definitely too bruised to continue speaking.

"Well, the only way to save your pack would be to get a lycan to genuinely forgive the pack under the light of the blood moon", we are told and I frowned.

"And that lycan must have the blood of the royal family flowing through his or her veins"

Wow, getting a lycan that would do as required was already difficult enough and they just had to specify that it had to be someone with royal blood.

Lycans were terribly arrogant and probably would leave us to suffer our fate regardless of the fact that we now had a peace treaty. They were that inconsiderate that they wouldn't care even if our pack suddenly degraded from werewolves to normal wolves.

"Is there no way out except that? Is it not possible for it to be neutralized if we perform sacrifices? The members of the council of werewolves should know better than everyone else how much the lycans disregard us werewolves. They probably wouldn't care even if the curse was for everyone to fall down dead", Kendrick pleaded.

"You should also know that we are merely middlemen in the Moon goddess's communication with other werewolves. We only reflect the Moon goddess's instructions to all other werewolves", one of the men sighed, seeming genuinely sympathetic.

"Besides, if the Moon goddess commanded you to do this, it shows that performing it is possible. She wouldn't give a task that is impossible to fulfill", another of the men told us.

How would it be possible for us to get a member of the royal family to come to our pack during the blood moon? That was usually a festive period for both lycans and werewolves and they would probably claim that a member of the royal family couldn't be absent from such a festival.

"When is the next blood moon though?", I heard Kendrick breathe out after a while and I turned to him in surprise.

What was he planning? Well, it would definitely be something good though. I had grown to trust Kendrick's reasoning as he always considered what would be the best for the pack.

"In about two months"

"What?", we both exclaimed.

"That's too far, my Lord. The entire pack would be wiped out before then, the curse is spreading even faster than a wildfire. Children have started getting infected too", Kendrick vented. "Isn't there any way to pause the curse or even just slow it down until the blood moon?"

"We will have to consult the Moon goddess again"

They began their incantations once again and the bowl started glowing like it had before they had made the revelations about the pack's curse. I wondered how the Moon goddess communicated with them through that bowl. Did she talk to them and we just weren't hearing anything? Or did she write on the bowl or something?

There was no way to check if that was true though as the light that emanated from the bowl became blinding after a while so Kendrick and I usually had to look away.

The light soon became too bright and Kendrick and I looked away. The light soon faded away and we both turned back to the men expectantly.

"Having the lycan in your pack till the night of the blood moon will reduce the rate of the spreading"

Argh! Lycans and lycans! Were we going to survive the curse at this rate?
