“Stop!” I look back to see three guards hot on my trail before turning around. It’s been almost an hour since I parted with the masked man at the cave. Thanks to his distraction, I was able to move undetected for a while before I was spotted by the three guards who were now behind me. There was no way I could out run them and if I was caught, I was going to be killed immediately. They had already made that clear by the arrows dipped in poison that they had shot at me. It seems the council decided I was to be killed immediately.

The rain had started to fall heavily now and the forest had become very muddy. It made the guards’ job of catching me hard but made my escape harder. My wedding dress was ripped and stained with mud and I had lost my shoes somewhere during my escape from prison. My arms and feet were covered in wounds and gashes but still I ran. I was in so much pain but I had to get away even when I felt my strength failing me. An arrow stabs me in my shoulder and I fall to my knees as the guards form a triangle around me.

My tears mix in with the rain. I look the sky as the rain falls down harder. “Moon goddess, help me!” I cry out. “Surrender now or we will have to use force.” One of the guards says. “Ida! Ida where are you!” I call my wolf but no one answers. I sob loudly now, my grief evident for all to see. I had not heard Ida’s voice since Derek had rejected me, it seemed my wolf was still grieving. This was the end, it seemed. My mind flashed to the green eyed stranger who helped me escape. I didn’t even know his name. “I’m sorry.” I whisper.

The guards took that as me surrendering and lowered their weapons. One of them brought out a silver dagger and approached me as I closed my eyes and waited for the killing strike. Then I heard it, a growl. My eyes opened and the guards stepped back as I felt myself transform into my wolf. Ida goes after the guard with the silver knife and I lose my consciousness.

“Genevieve. Can you hear me? Open your eyes.” I know that voice. My eyes fall open and I look around. I don’t recognize where I am and the guards are nowhere to be found. I’m also back in my human form. “Ida, what happened?” “We’ve been hit by an arrow dipped in poison. You’re losing blood fast and I can’t heal you because of the poison. You need help and fast. I saw a light just east from here, help could be there.”

I pull myself to my feet and start my journey towards the light Ida saw. All the way, I keep muttering to the moon goddess to help me. Somehow I make it to a shed that has a dim light coming out of it. “H…he…elp m…m…me p...pl…ease.” Then everything goes dark.

“Are you feeling better?” My eyes snap open and I look around. I’m in a white room that looks very unfamiliar. There are no trees around and it looks like I’m in a house. I move to sit up but cry out when a sharp pain pierces through my right shoulder. “Whoa easy there. You’re still injured.” “How long was I out?” “Three days. You almost died, lucky I found you in time.”

I stay with the woman, Sue is her name, for almost six months. She doesn’t tell me much about herself except that she’s a seer for another pack. For the whole six months, I don’t stop having nightmares about that day. Some days I dream that Derek kills me, other times its Alexa literally stabbing me in the back and once in a while I get saved by the green eyed masked man. I still think about what he told me back in the cell so I go over the day of the murders.

I’m taking a stroll down the beach thinking about the green eyed man when I bump into someone. “Oh, I’m sorry.” I begin to move away but the person’s hand clamps down hard on my arm. “Hey what are you…” “Hello, Genevieve.” I gasp at the sight of Derek’s smiling face. “I’ve been looking for you.” I stand there frozen as he reaches behind his back and reveals a silver dagger. The same dagger that was used to kill my parents. “Goodbye Genevieve.” He raises the dagger as I scream.

I jump out of my bed, my heart still racing from the dream I just had. “Another dream?” I nod at Sue. She comes to sit beside me. “Maybe you need a holiday. Why don’t you follow me to La Vida tomorrow?” I freeze. “What did you say Sue?” “Vida? You know, the popular restaurant in New York?” My mind flashes to the day of the wedding, the last thing my mother said to me before she was killed. I thought she had said ‘te amo mi amor’ as she always said to me but the more I think about it, the more I realize she said Vida. “You okay?” “I’m fine. Good night Sue.”

Two days before the wedding, my mother had told me she and my dad were going to Vida’s to get a cake as my gift for the wedding. According to what Derek had said at the wedding, the murders had taken place two days before, meaning my parents weren’t even around when it happened. Someone had framed my parents for murder. But who?

“Liana had said you were a liability to Derek, what if they planned all this together?” “Derek wouldn’t Ida.” “After everything those two have done, they are capable of anything.” I hate to think that Ida’s right but what if this was just a plan by Derek to not marry a maid, to not make a maid the Luna of one of the greatest packs in the region.

The pain, grief and heartbreak I’ve been feeling all this while suddenly gets buried under a wave of anger. “You’ll pay for this, all of you.”

I stare at the unfamiliar face staring back at me in the reflection of the mirror. The girl that stares back has her face covered in a thick layer of bandages but the indigo eyes are bright and clear enough. Those indigo eyes should feel familiar to me but where there was warmth in them once, there is now mischief and trickery that hides a deep layer of anger and pain. I don’t recognize this face now and I won’t recognize it either when the bandages come off. “How you feeling now?” I turn to Sue, “I’m okay I guess. When do the bandages come off?” “Four weeks.” I nod. When Sue doesn’t say anything, I turn back to find her still staring at me. “What?” “You are the only person I know who would change their face and return to their pack to take revenge. It is all so extreme.” Two months ago when I realized that I was betrayed by my pack, I decided to take revenge on them, fueled by an anger I’ve never felt before. The plans had started to form then but Sue raised an issue I hadn’t even t

“Genevieve?” The name has me freezing, turning to stone in the stranger’s arms. My mind comes up with too many thoughts in that moment, how did he know? Did he recognize me? Did I do anything to blow my cover? Did the plastic surgery fail to cover up my real face? “Hey.” The man gives me a little shake that brings me out of my thoughts. “Who?” I say with an unsure smile. His green eyes laser focus on my face and seem to scan my thoughts while I fight to hold my smile steadily and calmly and not look suspicious. Then it hits me, I know this face, I know this stranger! Asher King. The beta of the Blood Moon pack, best friend of Derek and the boy who was secretly taught by my father as a young kid. I remember my father bringing home a tall, thin, lanky boy with spiky rough hair and dirty torn clothes. “This is my home, feel free to come back here if you need help.” My father had said to him. The man before me looked nothing like the boy from my memories –except for the green eyes, those

Genevieve. I try my best not to think about her or how I failed her, how I broke the promise I made to her father. That was the only thing Anthony Franklin had ever asked me for, to keep his daughter safe and I couldn’t even do that. Anthony Franklin and his wife Rita, were the only ones in this pack who ever saw anything good in me. They took care of me, taught me and showed me kindness where no one ever did. To the pack I was the dirty, homeless boy with anger issues and weird green eyes but to the Franklin’s, I was a child in need of a home, a home they gave me freely. I vowed never to let them down, never to let them regret taking me in but in the end, I broke my vow, I let them down. As I walk through the run down home of the only person to ever take care of me, I don’t see the walls blackened by the fires set to the home by the angry pack, I don’t see the broken bottles or the furniture, I don’t see the vulgar words written by the angry pack members, I see the small home where

The day before Genevieve’s parent’s deaths… I paced from one end of the room to the other while Derek leaned on his desk with his arms folded, watching me. “You’ll walk a hole in the floor Asher.” I stopped pacing and turned to face him, “I don’t get it, how could their fingerprints be on the murder weapon? There weren’t even here when the murders took place. Anthony Franklin is the least violent man I know and his wife –there’s no way she can kill anyone either. They were framed, that’s the only explanation that makes sense.” Derek gives me a look that sends alarm bells ringing in my head. “What is it now?” With a sigh, he says, “The other servants in the Campbell house confirmed that Gus Campbell only allowed Anthony to touch his weapons. They were very dear to him and because Anthony had a lot of knowledge about weapons, he was the only one with access to the vault. Only Anthony could have gotten his hands on the silver dagger that was used to murder the Campbells.” Everything

  • Return of the Rejected Luna   Asher's POV III

Derek was someone I always considered as my brother. Besides the Franklin’s, he was the only other person to be nice to me. When he and I bonded as alpha and beta, we became even closer than biological brothers. We fought together, we ruled the pack together and we swore that nothing will ever come between us because that would mean the weakening of the alpha-beta bond which will also affect the pack. Derek and I had never fought each other but we always fought together. I always thought he was someone I would never raise my fist to –ever. Till today. As I tackle Derek to the ground, I keep punching him. I’m able to get a couple of blows in before he pushes me off of him. His eyes glow amber, the color of his wolf Rex while mine glow green in the left eye and silver in the right, the color of Raven’s eyes. Just as we begin to go to each other, Liana steps between us and screams for us to stop. “How could you do this? She trusted you!” I say to Liana before turning to Derek “I truste

The new house will be built to accommodate guests from other packs and even some workers under the employ of the alpha and the luna. The old house will be given to the beta and will become his personal residence.” “Why does the alpha and luna need a new house?” I ask Hope. “The current residence of the alpha and luna is a little bit old and kind of small for the alpha, luna and beta to stay in comfortably especially when there are guests from other packs.” I nod. From the expression on Beta Asher’s face, he doesn’t seem to care about it or want to be here for that matter. “The floor will be thrown open to every member of the pack for your opinion on where the new house will be. That night, I lay in bed and thinking about what Derek had said about destroying my old house. It didn’t help that I was doing nothing but suppressing my anger and scaring Liana with words, those things were not enough. I had to start my revenge immediately. I stood up from the bed and grabbed a notepad and a pencil before sitting on my desk. The first thing I needed to do was find the receipt that could prove my parents weren’t here when the Campbells got murdered so I needed to think of places where the receipt could be. I didn’t have much hope that I would find it because a lot of time had passed. On the notepad, I write down a list of places where I think the receipt could be. My old home, the Campbells home, those are the only places I can think of right now. I circle ‘my old home’ and decide to start my search there. The next day, I go to Liana’s home. She seems to still be annoyed by the stunt I pulled yesterday and sends me to the kitchen to help the cooks. At the kitchen,

What the hell? “Beta, I couldn’t sleep so I decided to take a stroll.” His eyebrows lift in disbelief. “You’re quite far from your home aren’t you, Alexa?” He remembers my name? In the dark house, with the light from outside shining partially on his face, he looks as surprised as me that he remembered my name. “I’m far from home because I’ve been walking for a while. It takes some time for me to get to my senses, pull myself up and off from the ground and start looking for a way to fix this mess. Ramsey had not locked me back into the suite, probably assuming that I was going to curl up into a ball and cry myself to sleep. He was dead wrong. Ramsey had given Ryder the opportunity to ask for anything from me, he had sensed that I was willing to do anything. It made no sense that Ryder asked for Hope. Ryder wasn’t a gentleman, he was a brute so he didn’t need to ask me for her when he could take her by force. Ryder was playing with me.The first place I go to from the office is the hidden room I set up. It is empty and looks clean, so I guess Asher heard what happened and got out but I have no idea where he is. I grab what I need from the hidden room and head for Jessa and Hope’s house. The rogue guards watch me leave the residence of the alpha, they don’t try to stop me but I’m sure they’ll send someone to follow me. I didn’t care, as far as they l

“Ryder!” I bang my fists against the locked door of the alpha’s suite. I had been locked in the suite for almost a week now, and I was so sick and tired of being locked in here as if I was a common criminal. “Ryder!” I try again but he just ignores me. I know he’s out there, standing guard until he fully recovered from the bashing he received from Ida. “What is Ramsey up to? What is he doing?” No answer. “Hey! Stop ignoring me and let me out of here! I need to talk to him.”My fists were already burning from the force I was using to bang on the door so I decided it was probably best that I take a break. I slid down the door as my thoughts went back to Hope. Two days had already passed since she first came to see me and I still had no idea about what to do to convince Ramsey to let Kylan go. Did it mean I was giving up? No, there was no way I was going to let Hope’s baby grow up without a father. But there was also no way I was going to give up Asher’s location or reject him. I was stu

“Kylan, no!” I scream just as he brings down the silver club on Ramsey’s head. The intention to kill Ramsey is so clear in Kylan’s eyes. For a moment, time slows down as Kylan brings the club down and then it happens so fast that for a split second, I don’t understand what happens. The club connects but not on Ramsey’s head and then Kylan is pushed so hard that he collides into a tree that breaks into two from the impact. That is how hard he was pushed. My mouth is wide open in shock as I take in the scene before me. Ryder stands over Ramsey, with blood pouring down his arm with the look of murder on his face. Where on earth did he come from? I realize that he blocked the blow meant for Ramsey’s head with his hand and then shoved Kylan away like he was swatting away a fly.“Alpha, are you okay?” Ryder helps Ramsey up to his feet, he staggers a bit before standing still and wiping the blood dripping down his head. Ramsey shakes off Ryder’s hand and points to Kylan who is still trying t

I am trying so hard to rein Ida in but she’s too strong for me to suppress. She stands there growling at a rage filled Ramsey, ready to do anything to protect me and my oath to our mate. “Ida, don’t provoke him! He might hurt you!” What was I saying? Ramsey had already found out that I didn’t reject Asher and that was provoking enough for him. He practically vibrated with anger as he stood across from me.“I want to speak to Alexa, bring her to me now!” He finally explodes and charges at Ida, eyes dark with rage. My best bet and the only way I could get out of this situation with little or no injuries would be to let Ida take full control, I had to stop holding her back. Ida dodges Ramsey’s first attack and I decide to let her handle this, I was out of options.Ramsey’s eyes change to the colour of his wolf –a creepy red colour, as he watches me shift into my wolf. He knew me and he saw things that I thought I had hidden well. After Ramsey’s declaration of a second wedding night, I had searched for a solution but found none and the weekend started tomorrow. I had ended up giving myself a headache and I looked even worse than before. I had given up on finding a solution and decided to come see Asher. We were cuddling on the small bed in the room as he lazily stroked my back.I thought I had hidden my worry about the situation I was in well from him, but he just saw right through it. “Yeah, you look tired but that wasn’t what I was going to say. “Where were you, Alexa?” Ramsey says again and walks slowly towards me, like a lion stalking its prey. “I couldn’t sleep so I went for a walk.” When did I become so anxious at the sight of Ramsey? No, this wasn’t a new thing, he always gave me a bad feeling whenever I saw him, but these days, especially since the day he killed those innocent people, the sight of him made my skin crawl even more. “I know I haven’t been so attentive to you these days and I’m sorry, you’ll have me all to yourself this weekend.” “What does that mean?” Ramsey nods to a seat in the room. When I finally settle down, he continues. “We haven’t had our wedding night yet, Alexa. It makes it feel like something is missing from our marriage.” I try not to shake his hand off of me when he starts to stroke my hair. “We need this wedding night to bond us, to bring us closer. The pack needs an alpha and a luna, you know.” “Who told you that we needed a wedding night to be close?” “Alexa, we are married.” “So?” “So, I

My smile is so huge as I run my hand through his shoulder length hair. “You need a haircut.” “Later.” “Why not now?” “Later.” He says again. “Asher you-“His lips press on mine, cutting off whatever I was going to say. “I missed you. I haven’t been able to sleep for the past three days. When night comes, all I do is toss and turn in my bed. The few times I’ve been able to sleep, my dreams are filled with images of Henry the guard-wolf, looking at me with sad eyes while blood pours from the hole in his stomach. Other times, it is Evan’s son lying on the ground, his eyes open, looking at me while vultures feast on him. Some days, I see Asher running towards me but he is caught and killed by Ramsey, the same way he killed Henry, and I wake up in my bed soaked with sweat, like someone emptied a bucket of water while I was sleeping. The only good thing that happens during these three days is that Ramsey doesn’t try to share the room with me. A part of me is glad but the other part of me is worried about what he must be up to next. There’s no way he’d listen to me and give me space.Five days later, I look worse than I have ever and I’ve stopped coming out of my room. I don’t hear from either Ares or Kylan and that make

I recognize Sue’s delicate handwriting.“How are you doing Alexa? I hope you are holding on? I just received word from Valor that he has found your mate. As I write this, they are on their way back to here. Valor didn’t say much but Asher is fine, he’s okay so you can stop worrying about him. As for Liana, there’s been no new news on our end but we won’t stop looking. I know we are close and we’ll soon find her. I wish you strength always. Love, Sue.”After reading the note, a sigh of relief pushes past my lips and I feel my mood lift. Asher was okay, he was still alive. “Now what, Alexa?” Kylan asks. “Honestly? I don’t know. We are sitting ducks without Liana’s testimony. The other packs won’t be willing to help us without Liana saying anything. She’s the most important part of our plan.” “Ho
