“What is it? Tell me.” I grab on to Ares’ shoulders, digging my nails into them without even realizing it while panic tries to claw its way from my stomach to my throat. “You don’t look too good, Alexa. Maybe you should sit down for a bit.” Ares says, concern filling his features as he frowns at me. I know what he sees, my face has gone deathly pale and my breathing has become heavy. “Just tell me.” I whisper. “Alexa, please.” “Tell me!” I scream at him.

Ares shuts his eyes tightly for a moment and when he opens them again, I can see the pain in his eyes. “Your plan didn’t work Alexa. Ramsey didn’t let Asher off the hook. H-he wants to k-kill Asher in three days. No one is going to stop him, Alexa.” My hands slip from Ares’ shoulders and I sway, suddenly feeling lightheaded. Ares wraps his arm around my waist to keep me from face planting on the rough ground.

“Hey! We said only a minute! How long does it take to drop the food and come out?” An angry looking guard wolf snaps at Ares. “

I stared at the reflection in the mirror and marveled at how different I looked from how I normally was. Today was the day I got married to my mate and became the Luna of the Blood Moon pack, one of the biggest and most feared packs in the region. It came as a surprise to everyone when two weeks ago, my wolf Ida and the wolf of our Alpha, Rex connected and bonded. Our wolfs confirmed that we were mates. I, a lowly maid working in the house of a rich member of the pack was the mate of one of the most feared alphas in the world. “And soon to be his wife!” my wolf Ida crooned. I smiled at my reflection. The whole change was a lot to get used to and I knew I had to become the Luna my pack deserved but I was determined to do my very best and to give my all for the pack and for Derek. A knock sounded at the door and someone called out, “Are you ready Luna Genevieve? It’s almost time.” “Coming!” I responded. I looked at the simple flowing, shimmering silver dress I wore and ran my hands ov

“Genevieve? Look at me.” I turn wordlessly to Derek. “Your parents were criminals, you know you aren’t allowed to bury them. Their bodies will be discarded in a manner fit for condemned criminals of our pack.” I say nothing as tears fall uncontrollably from my eyes. I can’t see anything besides my parents’ faces twisted in pain and agony, I hear nothing but their piercing screams. I am unable to look away as a guards wrap the bodies up and carry them down the aisle and out of the hall. Every member of the Blood Moon pack present does not miss the opportunity to see the bodies of the criminals. “Members of the Blood Moon pack, what you have just witnessed was the uprooting of evil from the root of our pack and the service of justice to the betrayed. However, you have come here for a wedding and for the crowning of your new Luna. This shall still take place.” The murmurs in the hall grows louder and my head snaps up to look at Derek incredulously. He killed my parents before my eyes an

I stay in the prison for the next three days wondering where it all went wrong. I questioned everything I knew about my parents and wondered if everyone was right and I was wrong but it didn’t make any sense to me. Yes, the Campbells did owe us some month’s wages, but it wasn’t the first time they had delayed in paying us our wages. The last time I saw my parents, they were looking forward to my wedding to Derek, it didn’t make any sense for them to sabotage such a big day in my life by killing the Campbells. I look down on the dried blood on my hands and the image of my parents’ screaming in agony and their lifeless eyes moments later flashes in my mind. The tears start to flow again and sob uncontrollably. That’s how Liana finds me minutes later. “Awn, still crying? Come on Genny, it’s been three days already. You should be praying that the council doesn’t kill you next.” I stare at Liana in disbelief. She expects me to brush off my parents’ death? “I can’t believe that all you h

“Stop!” I look back to see three guards hot on my trail before turning around. It’s been almost an hour since I parted with the masked man at the cave. Thanks to his distraction, I was able to move undetected for a while before I was spotted by the three guards who were now behind me. There was no way I could out run them and if I was caught, I was going to be killed immediately. They had already made that clear by the arrows dipped in poison that they had shot at me. It seems the council decided I was to be killed immediately. The rain had started to fall heavily now and the forest had become very muddy. It made the guards’ job of catching me hard but made my escape harder. My wedding dress was ripped and stained with mud and I had lost my shoes somewhere during my escape from prison. My arms and feet were covered in wounds and gashes but still I ran. I was in so much pain but I had to get away even when I felt my strength failing me. An arrow stabs me in my shoulder and I fall to m

  • Return of the Rejected Luna   “I’m Alexa.”

I stare at the unfamiliar face staring back at me in the reflection of the mirror. The girl that stares back has her face covered in a thick layer of bandages but the indigo eyes are bright and clear enough. Those indigo eyes should feel familiar to me but where there was warmth in them once, there is now mischief and trickery that hides a deep layer of anger and pain. I don’t recognize this face now and I won’t recognize it either when the bandages come off. “How you feeling now?” I turn to Sue, “I’m okay I guess. When do the bandages come off?” “Four weeks.” I nod. When Sue doesn’t say anything, I turn back to find her still staring at me. “What?” “You are the only person I know who would change their face and return to their pack to take revenge. It is all so extreme.” Two months ago when I realized that I was betrayed by my pack, I decided to take revenge on them, fueled by an anger I’ve never felt before. The plans had started to form then but Sue raised an issue I hadn’t even t

“Genevieve?” The name has me freezing, turning to stone in the stranger’s arms. My mind comes up with too many thoughts in that moment, how did he know? Did he recognize me? Did I do anything to blow my cover? Did the plastic surgery fail to cover up my real face? “Hey.” The man gives me a little shake that brings me out of my thoughts. “Who?” I say with an unsure smile. His green eyes laser focus on my face and seem to scan my thoughts while I fight to hold my smile steadily and calmly and not look suspicious. Then it hits me, I know this face, I know this stranger! Asher King. The beta of the Blood Moon pack, best friend of Derek and the boy who was secretly taught by my father as a young kid. I remember my father bringing home a tall, thin, lanky boy with spiky rough hair and dirty torn clothes. “This is my home, feel free to come back here if you need help.” My father had said to him. The man before me looked nothing like the boy from my memories –except for the green eyes, those

Genevieve. I try my best not to think about her or how I failed her, how I broke the promise I made to her father. That was the only thing Anthony Franklin had ever asked me for, to keep his daughter safe and I couldn’t even do that. Anthony Franklin and his wife Rita, were the only ones in this pack who ever saw anything good in me. They took care of me, taught me and showed me kindness where no one ever did. To the pack I was the dirty, homeless boy with anger issues and weird green eyes but to the Franklin’s, I was a child in need of a home, a home they gave me freely. I vowed never to let them down, never to let them regret taking me in but in the end, I broke my vow, I let them down. As I walk through the run down home of the only person to ever take care of me, I don’t see the walls blackened by the fires set to the home by the angry pack, I don’t see the broken bottles or the furniture, I don’t see the vulgar words written by the angry pack members, I see the small home where

The day before Genevieve’s parent’s deaths… I paced from one end of the room to the other while Derek leaned on his desk with his arms folded, watching me. “You’ll walk a hole in the floor Asher.” I stopped pacing and turned to face him, “I don’t get it, how could their fingerprints be on the murder weapon? There weren’t even here when the murders took place. Anthony Franklin is the least violent man I know and his wife –there’s no way she can kill anyone either. They were framed, that’s the only explanation that makes sense.” Derek gives me a look that sends alarm bells ringing in my head. “What is it now?” With a sigh, he says, “The other servants in the Campbell house confirmed that Gus Campbell only allowed Anthony to touch his weapons. They were very dear to him and because Anthony had a lot of knowledge about weapons, he was the only one with access to the vault. Only Anthony could have gotten his hands on the silver dagger that was used to murder the Campbells.” Everything

“You’re pregnant?” I say, my eyes wide with shock. Liana lets go of me and steps back suddenly looking unsure. She scratches her left arm with her right hand, like a druggie looking for a quick fix. My gaze drops to her stomach but there’s no sign of any pregnancy, at least not yet. If she isn’t lying, the pregnancy must be in the early stages. “How far along are you?” Liana shakes her head and turns away from me. “Liana, how-“”Forget it, okay? Forget I said anything.” I watch her as she heads for a corner in the cell and settles down with her back to me.The doubts that I had when I saw Liana after the days Derek died starts creeping in again. Did she really kill Derek? Did I just accuse an innocent person? Were we just playing a game that Ramsey had made? “Liana, did you tell Ramsey that you are pregnant? Maybe he’ll change his mind about the death sentence.” Liana scoffs at my statement. “He’s your mate, Liana.” And probably the father of your child. I leave that part unsaid but sh

“For the crime of murder you, Liana Dawson is stripped of your position as Luna of the Blood Moon pack. All Privileges that comes with the title will also be taken from you. As for the punishment for your crime, you will be sentenced to death on a date that will be chosen by the council of elders. For now, you will be locked in the cells of the pack.” Muriel who has found his voice again, reads Liana’s verdict to her. For some reason, I feel sorry for her, that she’s ending up this way. Maybe it’s the look on her face that makes me feel pity towards her. But I didn’t have time to feel sorry for her, my turn was next and from the smug look on Muriel’s face, my punishment wasn’t going to be better.“For aiding Liana Dawson in the crime of murdering the alpha, you, Genevieve Franklin will be sentenced to prison for the rest of your life.” “I didn’t ‘aid’ her in killing anyone, I had nothing to do with this.” I say but I know it’s no use, they will only hear what they want to hear. “You? You’re Genevieve Franklin?” Muriel asks, disbelief in his voice. “Yes.” “You said you have no wolf!” Another elder says and I shrug in response. “How do we know you are telling the truth and this isn’t another stunt you are trying to pull?” “You know I am not lying. You can feel it.” I say, pinning Muriel with a hard stare. Without taking my eyes off of him, I unclasp my bracelet from around my wrist and stuff it into my pocket. My eyes change into the colour of Ida’s own and slowly, the folded brows of Muriel straighten and climb high on his face. I know what is going on, what he sees, and what all of them hear. Every wolf in this hall recognizes Ida and I and they reveal that fact to their hosts.Muriel stumbles backward, almost falling to the ground and the rest of the elders stare silently in shock. The pack is suddenly restless at my revelation. “Why did you come back here?” Ramsey asks. “I came for Derek, I came for Liana, I came for Muriel and all of his elders, I came fo

“Wh…what are you saying Alexa? That’s ridiculous! I never touched that vial, I’ve never even seen it before!” Liana’s voice is shaky. “I didn’t kill him, believe me!” She screams hysterically, eyes wide as she looks around the hall, pleading for people to believe her. “This is a serious accusation, and it is against the Luna, as well. You better have proof to back your claims.” Muriel hisses at me. “I found this vial myself in the room of the Luna, and after the doctor told me that is was a deadly poison, I sent this vial to be tested for any traces –human or wolf. As you are aware, there are places that conduct tests like this to find traces of human and wolf. This is the result of their testing.” I hand the test result to Muriel who eyes it suspiciously. When he sees the name of the testing centre, his brows shoot up in surprise.“Alexa, look at me.” Asher says, but I don’t turn to him, I pretend I don’t hear him calling me and keep my back turned to him. He knows I’m about to do so

“You wanted to see me, Alexa?” Ares says when he meets me behind the residence of the alpha and luna. “Yes. I need your help with something.” “What is it?” “I have a plan, a way to get Asher out of prison. I am going to reveal the truth about Derek’s death.” “Isn’t that dangerous?” “We have no other choice. And if we can get Asher released, Ramsey would have to step down from being the alpha. The people would prefer an alpha accepted by the moon goddess, they’ll be on his side.” Ares nods in agreement. “But if you reveal everything, wouldn’t that put you in danger?” “I’ll find a way around that.” “Okay, what do you need help with?” “I need you to find a way to get the entire pack gathered at the general hall, I’m going to reveal everything there. Can you do that?” Ares nods again. “I can find a way. When?” “I’ll let you know later. Oh, and Ares? Asher cannot find out what I’m doing.” “Of course.”“Are you sure about this?” Ida asks. “We have no choice, Ida but to reveal the truth.” “W

Ramsey didn’t waste any time with the coronation. He just instructed the elders to call for a pack gathering the next day. For the very first time, Liana and Dorothea heard about the elders appointing Ramsey as the new alpha. “We are gathered here today to announce that the council of elders has appointed a new alpha of the pack. After careful deliberations, the council has decided to appoint Ramsey Carson as your new alpha.” Muriel announced, his voice lacking the usual liveliness it always had when he was making announcements.Liana looked like she was going to be sick and Dorothea shook her head sadly. There was confused chatter from everyone in the hall. “Please understand, we cannot keep the seat of the alpha vacant for too long. It would spell danger for the pack.” Muriel said, trying and failing to clear the confusion at the hasty decision.“The elders mean well by this decision.” The noise dies down at the sound of Ramsey’s voice. “There are threats to this pack brought on by

I was out of ideas on what to do to get Asher out of the prison he was in. Going to Ramsey was a mistake, I shouldn’t have even thought about it, but I was desperate, and desperate people do stupid things. Two long, hard weeks had already passed since Asher was put in prison for the death of Derek, and it was hard knowing he was framed for a crime he didn’t commit, but it was harder knowing that it was my fault he was in this position in the first place.“Alexa.” I shake the thoughts out of my head and turn to face the grim looking Ares, watching as he walks to me. “How is he?” I ask, concern for Asher filling my voice. “He is as fine as he can be for someone in that position.” “You sound…mad.” I say, picking up on the tone of his voice. Ares sighs. “I just don’t understand why he doesn’t just reveal what you to found out! There is evidence of the Luna’s guilt. He doesn’t need to suffer this way.” “Maybe he just wants to protect someone.” I reply quietly. Ares’ face is a mask of frust

“What the hell is going on, Alexa? What do they mean Alpha Asher murdered the previous alpha, his best friend!” Hope screams with her red rimmed eyes. “Oh, you’ve heard.” “Of course I’ve heard! The whole pack has heard! Alpha Asher was just paraded like a criminal, and for murder, no less!” “Maybe you shouldn’t call him alpha out loud.” Hope and I turn to face Kylan who just walked into the house. “He did nothing wrong!” “I know, but you could get in trouble for that. There’s no sense in getting you both in trouble.” “You’re right.” She concedes.“Wait, you both think he did nothing wrong?” I ask in surprise. “Of course he didn’t. I’m a good judge of character and I know that for sure.” Hope states emphatically while Kylan nods in agreement. “The rest of the pack though, they don’t feel the same way though.” “They didn’t take it well?” I wince. “Let’s just say, it took a lot to protect him from the angry crowd.”I couldn’t believe how…undependable the people of this pack could be.
