“Jas, are you ready yet to meet my parents?” Kai texted me. I was somewhat excited. It had been something I always wanted—to be introduced to someone’s parents as their fiancée, especially since Earnest couldn’t do it. Now, someone else was doing it, just three months after knowing me, and he wanted me to meet his family.

I whooped as I got prepared, putting on a simple gown and applying a small amount of makeup. After I was done, I took my phone, scrolled through it, and replied to his text, “Yes, I’m ready.
