Chapter 1 - The Royal Tryst
“Let me go!” Georgia Finnes struggled as her arms were held firmly by two soldiers of the Woodbrick pack. They ignored her protest and they continued to drag her while her parents watched from the door of their humble house, unable to do anything.
Tonight, the long-awaited Royal Tryst that happens every three years was eagerly anticipated by everyone, except for Georgia Finnes who feared to have her own mate because of the secret that lies behind the blindfold she was wearing since she was a kid.
“All unmated she-wolves are ordered to attend the gathering. Anyone who disobeys or refuses to go shall be kicked out of the pack and turn into a rogue,” the man reminded her of the royal decree that had been passed centuries ago.
“I am blind! I am no use to that place,” Georgia insisted.
The Royal Tryst aims to find the mate of the Alpha King of the Western region — Maxton Bergmont, the rightful Luna who would rule by his side. The event would not only be attended by the royal clan and unmated she-wolves but also by unmated men who were also hoping to find their mate in the social gathering. Guests and VIPs from neighboring regions were also invited to join as this night also celebrates the first full moon of the year.
Georgia was thrown in one of the village’s cars that was filled with giggling and obviously dreaming young women, excited to see the Alpha King, and deep inside, they were hoping that they would be his fated mate; or if to be chosen as his.
She dusted the dress her mother put her into and sat on a vacant spot. She does not know anyone in the car, her best friend Layla might have been in another one. The ladies also ignored her as they were never close to her and she never socialized herself since she was a kid because of the danger she knew would be upon her once her silver eyes were revealed to the world.
Silver-eyed werewolves were being hunted for their psychokinesis ability, a power you were born with; but it could be stolen when the eyes were absorbed by another werewolf — which means death to the silver-eyed werewolf. In the past centuries, silver-eyed werewolves were hunted down for their eyes, or to be used like puppet robots following orders to assist in wars, go on missions, and be drained until they die. The psychokinesis ability of silver-eyed werewolves requires energy from the user, and excessive use of the power would drain the life out of the wielder, leading to death.
Two fates awaited a silver-eyed werewolf, but both were unfortunate. The werewolf would die when the silver eyes were taken out by another werewolf to absorb, or, the werewolf would die from the excessive use of its power, draining the life energy in the soul.
Whichever fate a silver-eyed chooses, they both lead to death.
And Georgia could trust no one aside from her parents who raised her, protected her, and kept her safe. It was lonely growing up without friends to play with, and go out and explore different sceneries in the region, but it was the life she had. The only friend she met was Layla, another lady in the pack whom she met in the forest after she was trained by her father who was a former pack warrior. Georgia was taught to defend herself, and to fight because danger would always tail her on the back, like a predator stalking its prey.
The car stopped and the guards of the royal residence inspected the arrivals before they were let through. Georgia carefully hopped off the car and stood still while the other ladies proceeded to the garden where the gathering was being held. She assessed the situation, the place, and the majority of the people. She could feel eyes behind her which she guessed that it must be from the guards who stared at her warily, or of concern with the blindfold covering her eyes. She turned to her left where she could hear the music, the peals of laughter, giggles, and men talking to one another. Since she was used to not being able to see, she had trained herself to use her other senses to make of what was around her. She followed where the majority of people were and successfully she ended up in the garden where Layla was able to spot her.
Layla hooked her arm to Georgia and said happily, “There you are, Georgia. Come, I will introduce you to —”
Georgia cut her with a refusal, “Sorry, but I am not really interested in this, Layla.”
“But you also need to find your mate.” Layla insisted.
“Maybe another time. I want to sit, I do not feel very well,” Georgia lied. She was feeling fine but annoyed that she had to attend this gathering.
“Alright then, I’ll take you to our table.” Layla took her to the table where her bag was and told her to wait there while she went to get her some drinks and food.
“I’ll be fine here, Layla. You don’t have to sit with me, go, and enjoy. Find your mate.” Georgia feigned a joyful tone despite what she was truly feeling inside. This was the first time that she stepped out of their village and had gone too far from their house. She was nervous and wary, she frequently touched the knot of her blindfold to make sure that it would not fall.
She was left alone on the table but her ears were alert to know the distance of the people away from her, making sure that no one would get too close or talk to her. She aimed to be as invisible as she can be.
The event went on, and the sound of the music coming from a band of musicians at the side entertained the guests, some started dancing, and swaying, while the current Alpha King sat on an elevated platform in front. The music only stopped when the former rulers of the Western Region— parents of the current Alpha King spoke, welcoming everyone, telling all the guests to have a fun night, and wishing that they would go home with their mate in their hand tonight.
“Welcome, everyone. Tonight is a night of celebration, of unity, and of finding the bond that completes us. We are honored to have each and every one of you here, joining us in this gathering.” the former Alpha King Lucus began, his mate following, “As you enjoy the night, remember that this is more than just a gathering. It is a chance to find the one destined for you, your mate. We hope that as the night progresses, you will feel the pull of that special connection.”
Alpha King Maxton remained in his seat, bored and uninterested in the happenings around him. He was never an eager man to find his mate, for he deemed it as a weak point that his enemies would surely take advantage of. Like his father, who discarded his own— eliminating that weakness, and chose someone else to stand beside him as he ruled during his reign, taking the kid—Maxton only for himself as his heir to the throne.
Just as Georgia turned her attention away from the speech as they went on, she felt a chilly wisp of air that passed her, grazing her exposed cheek, and the scent she had caught within the air sent shivers down her spine. The wolf inside her perked up.
Georgia learned to be always alert and alarmed when a sudden change occurs. She knew her predicament, one false move, and her silver eyes would be revealed, and wolves around her would be on her throat. Growing up being sheltered prevented her from being exposed to varying social stimulations. The shiver that ran down her spine was registered as ‘danger’ in her mind, even though it could mean something else; perhaps, excitement, arousal, curiosity, or many other things she had yet to know and explore.
Chapter 2 - Maxton BergmontMaxton Bergmont, the Alpha King of the Western region, moved with a commanding grace through the guests. At 6 feet 7 inches, his towering presence was impossible to ignore. Black hair framed his chiseled features, while his piercing emerald eyes scanned the crowd with a mixture of authority and coldness. His well-defined physique was evident even beneath his tailored attire, exuding both strength and power. As he shook hands and exchanged pleasantries, the deep rumble of his voice and the confident set of his shoulders conveyed a leader who was both respected and feared. Each greeting, each well-wish was met with a nod or acknowledgment, not a smile nor a hint of joy could be seen on his face. He, himself, was against the Royal Tryst because he did not want to find his mate, he saw it as a weakness, a worthless concept that was formed millenniums ago. For him, a mate is a weakness that would only endanger his position and his life. He preferred not to know
Chapter 3 - A Glimpse of Her PowerGeorgia glances at the map on her phone from time to time, after taking the forest for shortcuts, confirming she had ended up at the main road correctly. She passed by some inns and a local pub and smelled beer from the inside, the yellow light above at its entrance flickered twice before another ruckus was heard from the patrons. She pulled her hoodie closer to her face and looked down, walking briskly, determined to be out of sight from anyone she may encounter on the road. It was already past midnight and no cars were available to hail at this hour. She was not familiar with the town she was in and all she knew was to follow the map that would lead her back to her village. Safely. But for a young lady to be out in the streets, alone, it is dangerous. A few meters away, cigarette smoke floated in the air and the bright red light at its end was the only color against the darkness of the woods behind a man; or men, as Georgia confirmed. As she was
Chapter 4 - Banished From The PackGeorgia continued on her way, not wanting to stay too long in the forest, she withdrew her phone from the hidden pocket of her dress and continued on the main road, following the arrows on the map. She ran for another few hours until she had reached her pack’s land. It was already past 4 AM, and she continued walking through the woods to arrive at her parents’ house faster. Their house stood a few hundred meters away from everybody else in the pack, surrounded by thick woods and almost secluded from the community. But this was because Georgia was born, her parents decided to build a home far from everybody else to conceal her secret, but as part of the pack still, they did not completely break away from everybody. Everyone knew their existence and acknowledged it, but no one remained close enough to them. Her parents feared that she would be found out.“No,” she ran as fast as she could when she saw in the distance the bright fiery flames consuming h
Chapter 5 - Feigned IndifferenceThe morning was still fresh with the scent of dew clinging to the earth, the sun's rays barely cutting through the dense canopy of trees as Georgia stumbled along the gravel road. Her body ached with every step, but she pushed herself forward, driven by the desperation to escape the nightmare she had left behind. Her clothes were torn, smudged with soot and ash from the fire that had consumed her home, and her face was streaked with dried tears. The blindfold she wore over her eyes was damp with sweat and tears, sticking uncomfortably to her skin. The road stretched endlessly before her, winding through the thick woods that bordered the Western Region. She had no idea how long she had been walking when the sound of an approaching car broke through the fog of her thoughts. It was a faint hum at first, growing louder as it drew nearer. Georgia's heart skipped a beat, panic rising in her chest. She was a rogue now, vulnerable and alone, and the roads were
Chapter 6 - Maddening Addiction“Would you want to try a pair of sunglasses instead? People here in the city might… you know, get curious with your blindfold,” Lena glanced at her, seeing her soiled clothes and dirtied blindfold. “Here, you can have it if you want.” Lena handed Georgia her sunglasses. For a minute, Georgia hesitated. The blindfold slipped to her lap as she untied it and replaced it with dark sunglasses. She opened her eyes and took in her surroundings. High-rise buildings begin to dominate the skyline, their glass facades reflecting the early morning light. The streets are busy with people, some hurriedly making their way to work, others leisurely strolling with coffee cups in hand. The Northern Capital was a place unlike any Georgia had ever experienced. The scent of the city was an overwhelming mix of exhaust fumes, fresh bread from nearby bakeries, and the occasional whiff of flowers from market stalls. The roads were wider, the buildings taller, and the air humm
Chapter 7 - Wicked Beginnings“Your Majesty,” Hailey bowed her head in submission when the Alpha King passed by her room which was opposite to his.King Maxton’s eyes narrowed at her, trying to recognize her, “And who are you?” he asked. Her blonde wavy hair cascaded on her back to the length of her elbow, the bright red lipstick tinted her plump lips and her voluptuous breasts were almost spilling out of her corseted knee length dress. “Hailey of the Nightshade Pack, Your Majesty. The Queen Mother requested me to stay here at the manor —” but before she could even finish her statement, the King already cut her off.“No. Take your belongings and remain in the Palace. No female outsiders stay in my private place.” The attendants who were helping Hailey settle her luggage were confused and did not know what to do. The King eyed them and they scurried to take the bags and suitcases outside the room. “Lady Hailey,” one of the attendants called to her who was shocked at his cold demeano
Chapter 8 - The Watcher“The woman was blind according to the information provided, correct?” a man in his thirties stood against a lamppost across a grocery store, a phone against his left ear as he watched Georgia through the glass wall of the store, taking a bag of goods she just paid. “Yes, you have been watching her all this time and now you are asking?” a harsh voice snapped over the phone, laced with irritation. “Of course, she’s blind! She wears a blindfold due to her disgusting eyes.”“Really? It has been weeks and yet…” the man wondered, unsure whether he was fascinated that Georgia could function very well, or he was suspicious that she could do things on her own.“What? Come on Antler do not call me asking stupid questions!”“But she could do things well as if she is not blind.” Antler, the man who had been tasked to follow Georgia and report her every move to his boss, uttered in confusion, yet his voice was laced with suspicion. “Well, it was said that she was trained
Chapter 9 - Scorch of Molten SilverThe bell hanging inside above the door of the flower shop chimed softly, signaling the arrival of a customer. Georgia, standing behind the counter, immediately brightened and turned towards the sound. A warm smile spread across her face as she greeted the client. She could see her behind the dark sunglasses that were hiding the truth about her eyes.“Good morning!” Georgia said. The customer, a woman in her late twenties, stepped further into the shop. She was dressed in a chic, navy blue trench coat that accentuated her slender frame, her light brown hair tied back in a neat ponytail. Her features were soft yet elegant, with high cheekbones and wide brown eyes that lit up as she took in the vibrant array of flowers displayed around the shop.“Good morning,” the woman responded. She looked around, her eyes scanning the rows of flowers in various shades of pink, yellow, purple, and white. The shop was filled with the sweet, earthy scent of fresh blo
