Chapter 2 - Maxton Bergmont
Maxton Bergmont, the Alpha King of the Western region, moved with a commanding grace through the guests. At 6 feet 7 inches, his towering presence was impossible to ignore. Black hair framed his chiseled features, while his piercing emerald eyes scanned the crowd with a mixture of authority and coldness. His well-defined physique was evident even beneath his tailored attire, exuding both strength and power. As he shook hands and exchanged pleasantries, the deep rumble of his voice and the confident set of his shoulders conveyed a leader who was both respected and feared. Each greeting, each well-wish was met with a nod or acknowledgment, not a smile nor a hint of joy could be seen on his face. He, himself, was against the Royal Tryst because he did not want to find his mate, he saw it as a weakness, a worthless concept that was formed millenniums ago. For him, a mate is a weakness that would only endanger his position and his life. He preferred not to know who was fated to him.
But fate knew how to play a game.
As he went around greeting important business partners and visitors, he caught a scent that immediately excited his wolf inside him. He pushed away the feeling and the prodding voice of his wolf, telling him to find their mate. They fought each other internally, and when his eyes turned pitch black, the wolf took over his human counterpart and moved swiftly through the crowd, searching, until Maxton gained back control of his wolf putting himself to a complete halt.
But it was already too late, Georgia had sensed it, her wolf did as she chanted in her mate, ‘mate! Mate!’. Georgia could feel the piercing stare on her and she could sense the strong presence of power on her left, she figured it was the Alpha King Maxton Bergmont, who else would have the same aura in this crowd if not him. The gasps and whispers that followed a drop of silence confirmed that indeed it was the Alpha King. He had found his mate.
But the statement that left Georgia’s lips left everyone shocked.
She turned to him, standing a few feet away, voice quivering in fear but she drowned it, clenching her fists gripping the skirt of her dark green dress to stop herself from trembling, and she said, “I, Georgia Finnes, of Woodbrick Pack, reject you, Alpha King Maxton Bergmont, Ruler of the Western Packs, to be my mate and partner for life.”
She was scared for her life. She heard about him, the ruthless Alpha King of the West. She would kill her for the powers she possessed from her silver eyes, or he would use her to his means. So she decided to reject him, to get as far away from him as possible.
A growl rumbled in the Alpha King’s chest as the whispering around them grew.
What she did could be a ground for death, but they know that the Alpha King’s wolf would severely suffer if his mate died. Torture perhaps would be more suited.
Rage filled the Alpha King, and the pain struck him straight to the heart, stabbing his chest, in anger, he quickly ran toward her, so fast that he moved like a blur. The next thing they knew, he was already holding her neck, firmly curling his fingers under her jaw, and Georgia Finnes choked, her lungs begging for air.
“What did you say? How dare you reject me?” he hissed, his breathing was heavy, and his voice was threatening and restrained, barely holding himself back from twisting her head.
Georgia could not speak.
“I’ve heard about you,” he said, his hand remained gripping her neck, “the blind poor girl,” he mocked, a devilish snicker slipping from his lips. “What made you think I would want you to be my mate? You dared to reject me? No, Georgia.” he said, uttering her name like he had known her for long. “I, Alpha Maxton Bergmont, Ruler of the Western Packs, reject you, Georgia Finnes to be my mate.” he declared, his teeth clenched as he spoke, his anger seething which everyone could feel. Then he let go.
“Take this filthy woman out of here, and sanction the Woodbrick Pack for sending an insolent b-tch to the Royal Tryst.” he commanded and two men from the Royal Pack grabbed her arm and immediately removed her from the garden, leaving her outside the gates, alone.
Layla tried to go to her, but the guards at the gates did not allow her to leave. She must stay until the Royal Tryst ends.
Georgia had no other choice but to walk on her own. She listened to her footsteps and felt the ground beneath her feet to know that she was still following the right track leaving the King’s premises. She was not sure of the way out of the Bergmont’s land and just followed the trail, using her sense of smell to remind herself of the way they had passed by earlier when arriving there. She had smelled the scent of flowers and different trees, and heard the shifts from rocky roads to smoother trails, she just needed to be out of anyone’s sight now so she could see her phone’s map and go home quicker.
When she had reached the part where the street lamps had ceased to exist and only darkness and dimmed forest surrounded her, she stopped; she thought she was far enough and that no one could see her so she pulled her blindfold down to be able to see, blinking the blur in her vision several times before she covered herself with a cloak, pulling the hood to cover her head and hide her eyes.
What she did not know were those green eyes that belonged to the Alpha King— Maxton Bergmont was following her figure.
Alpha Maxton left the Royal Tryst and proceeded to his manor. At the upper floor, he stood on an open balcony, overlooking the gates where they had left Georgia, and he watched her leave. With his wolf vision, he was able to see at a farther distance than a pure blooded human could. At first, he could not believe that she could go home with her blind state, without anyone assisting her. But she walked following the trail carefully and he watched from a distance until she halted. He drank the remaining rum in his glass and saw her pull down her blindfold when the tied piece of fabric fell on her nape for he could only see her back from his view. He frowned as curiosity had him.
He leaned at the banister, his eyes focused on the retreating back of Georgia, slowly being consumed in the darkness of the night. He watched her cover herself with a dark cloak and not struggle to find her way, following the trail, leaving his land, which piqued his interest and intrigued him more; but the anger and hatred towards her, combined with the pain that he was concealing in his chest due to the rejection he made despite the protest from his wolf, overpowered any desire that he may have towards her.
Chapter 3 - A Glimpse of Her PowerGeorgia glances at the map on her phone from time to time, after taking the forest for shortcuts, confirming she had ended up at the main road correctly. She passed by some inns and a local pub and smelled beer from the inside, the yellow light above at its entrance flickered twice before another ruckus was heard from the patrons. She pulled her hoodie closer to her face and looked down, walking briskly, determined to be out of sight from anyone she may encounter on the road. It was already past midnight and no cars were available to hail at this hour. She was not familiar with the town she was in and all she knew was to follow the map that would lead her back to her village. Safely. But for a young lady to be out in the streets, alone, it is dangerous. A few meters away, cigarette smoke floated in the air and the bright red light at its end was the only color against the darkness of the woods behind a man; or men, as Georgia confirmed. As she was
Chapter 4 - Banished From The PackGeorgia continued on her way, not wanting to stay too long in the forest, she withdrew her phone from the hidden pocket of her dress and continued on the main road, following the arrows on the map. She ran for another few hours until she had reached her pack’s land. It was already past 4 AM, and she continued walking through the woods to arrive at her parents’ house faster. Their house stood a few hundred meters away from everybody else in the pack, surrounded by thick woods and almost secluded from the community. But this was because Georgia was born, her parents decided to build a home far from everybody else to conceal her secret, but as part of the pack still, they did not completely break away from everybody. Everyone knew their existence and acknowledged it, but no one remained close enough to them. Her parents feared that she would be found out.“No,” she ran as fast as she could when she saw in the distance the bright fiery flames consuming h
Chapter 5 - Feigned IndifferenceThe morning was still fresh with the scent of dew clinging to the earth, the sun's rays barely cutting through the dense canopy of trees as Georgia stumbled along the gravel road. Her body ached with every step, but she pushed herself forward, driven by the desperation to escape the nightmare she had left behind. Her clothes were torn, smudged with soot and ash from the fire that had consumed her home, and her face was streaked with dried tears. The blindfold she wore over her eyes was damp with sweat and tears, sticking uncomfortably to her skin. The road stretched endlessly before her, winding through the thick woods that bordered the Western Region. She had no idea how long she had been walking when the sound of an approaching car broke through the fog of her thoughts. It was a faint hum at first, growing louder as it drew nearer. Georgia's heart skipped a beat, panic rising in her chest. She was a rogue now, vulnerable and alone, and the roads were
Chapter 6 - Maddening Addiction“Would you want to try a pair of sunglasses instead? People here in the city might… you know, get curious with your blindfold,” Lena glanced at her, seeing her soiled clothes and dirtied blindfold. “Here, you can have it if you want.” Lena handed Georgia her sunglasses. For a minute, Georgia hesitated. The blindfold slipped to her lap as she untied it and replaced it with dark sunglasses. She opened her eyes and took in her surroundings. High-rise buildings begin to dominate the skyline, their glass facades reflecting the early morning light. The streets are busy with people, some hurriedly making their way to work, others leisurely strolling with coffee cups in hand. The Northern Capital was a place unlike any Georgia had ever experienced. The scent of the city was an overwhelming mix of exhaust fumes, fresh bread from nearby bakeries, and the occasional whiff of flowers from market stalls. The roads were wider, the buildings taller, and the air humm
Chapter 7 - Wicked Beginnings“Your Majesty,” Hailey bowed her head in submission when the Alpha King passed by her room which was opposite to his.King Maxton’s eyes narrowed at her, trying to recognize her, “And who are you?” he asked. Her blonde wavy hair cascaded on her back to the length of her elbow, the bright red lipstick tinted her plump lips and her voluptuous breasts were almost spilling out of her corseted knee length dress. “Hailey of the Nightshade Pack, Your Majesty. The Queen Mother requested me to stay here at the manor —” but before she could even finish her statement, the King already cut her off.“No. Take your belongings and remain in the Palace. No female outsiders stay in my private place.” The attendants who were helping Hailey settle her luggage were confused and did not know what to do. The King eyed them and they scurried to take the bags and suitcases outside the room. “Lady Hailey,” one of the attendants called to her who was shocked at his cold demeano
Chapter 8 - The Watcher“The woman was blind according to the information provided, correct?” a man in his thirties stood against a lamppost across a grocery store, a phone against his left ear as he watched Georgia through the glass wall of the store, taking a bag of goods she just paid. “Yes, you have been watching her all this time and now you are asking?” a harsh voice snapped over the phone, laced with irritation. “Of course, she’s blind! She wears a blindfold due to her disgusting eyes.”“Really? It has been weeks and yet…” the man wondered, unsure whether he was fascinated that Georgia could function very well, or he was suspicious that she could do things on her own.“What? Come on Antler do not call me asking stupid questions!”“But she could do things well as if she is not blind.” Antler, the man who had been tasked to follow Georgia and report her every move to his boss, uttered in confusion, yet his voice was laced with suspicion. “Well, it was said that she was trained
Chapter 9 - Scorch of Molten SilverThe bell hanging inside above the door of the flower shop chimed softly, signaling the arrival of a customer. Georgia, standing behind the counter, immediately brightened and turned towards the sound. A warm smile spread across her face as she greeted the client. She could see her behind the dark sunglasses that were hiding the truth about her eyes.“Good morning!” Georgia said. The customer, a woman in her late twenties, stepped further into the shop. She was dressed in a chic, navy blue trench coat that accentuated her slender frame, her light brown hair tied back in a neat ponytail. Her features were soft yet elegant, with high cheekbones and wide brown eyes that lit up as she took in the vibrant array of flowers displayed around the shop.“Good morning,” the woman responded. She looked around, her eyes scanning the rows of flowers in various shades of pink, yellow, purple, and white. The shop was filled with the sweet, earthy scent of fresh blo
Chapter 10 - The Purple DrugGeorgia made her way through a narrow alley on her route back from a stroll. The day was cloudy, casting a dim, gray light that made the shadows stretch longer, causing an uncanny look in the alleyway. She wore her sunglasses, as always, her cane tapping gently along the uneven pavement as she walked. Though she was pretending to be blind, her sharp eyes scanned her surroundings constantly. She had grown accustomed to the subtle shifts in the atmosphere, the change in the wind, the quiet rustle of leaves, the hurrying footsteps of people going about their day, and the whirring sound of cars, but today felt different. As she moved forward, she noticed a figure standing still, half hidden in the shadows near a wall. Georgia’s steps slowed, cautious. Today, she had not seen the man — Antler, who had been watching her, but she recognized the ragged old man before her. It was the same homeless man who had bumped into Antler at the grocery store last week. She r
