Edward
I wasn't aware of Beatrice's move, and when I came to pick her up at her new home, she was already waiting for me outside, without even inviting me in. A discomfort hung in the air as if there was an invisible barrier between us.
On the way back from Kent, before I could open the car door for my wife, she was already getting out hastily. I noticed her hurry and commented:
"You seem in a rush."
I followed her towards the door of her house, trying to understand what was happening. Beatrice looked at me with a displeased expression that deeply bothered me. As she took out the keys from her purse, she said with some coldness:
"There's no reason to prolong our conversation, Edward."
BeatriceThe morning after we visited Kent, I was already getting ready to head to the newspaper, as usual. But suddenly, the doorbell rang, making me jump. Who could be at my door so early? I opened the door, and there he was, Edward, with a charming smile on his lips.“Edward, what are you doing here so early?” I asked, my voice a mixture of surprise and confusion. He looked at me in a way I used to know so well but never felt the same during our marriage, and explained:“I thought of taking you to work today, Beatrice.”Edward wanted to take me to work. It was something I never expected from him, considering how things used to be between us. A wave of emotion and confusion spread through me. The attention h
BeatriceMy life was taking unexpected turns, and work was no exception. Mr. Joel Smith, who had promised me the interview with Edward, had not fulfilled his part of the agreement. I was still stuck in my position as a gossip columnist for the newspaper. The disappointment in this situation was starting to affect me.I was surprised again when my boss called me into his office. He assigned me a task that I initially rejected with determination.“I believe you understand that you work for my newspaper and, for that reason, need to fulfill the requests that are part of your responsibilities, Beatrice” Mr. Smith said, using his authority to press me.His authoritarian stance didn't please me, but I knew that as an employee of the newspaper, it was my duty to meet the de
BeatriceI wished I could say no, that he had the opportunity and lost it, but I couldn't utter the words. There was a lump in my throat, my heart beating fast, and I felt a tremendous chill in my stomach, making me both apprehensive and expectant at the same time.Edward seems to have noticed that words failed me because he takes my lips by storm, kissing me with intensity, leaving me completely at the mercy of the sensations that were being awakened in my body.“Edward…” His name came out of my lips in an incomprehensible lament.I felt his hands move up to my neck, caressing that sensitive area, and then reach my nape, holding me firmly. His fingers touched my scalp, sending shivers throughout my body.“I
BeatriceI looked around my room, still stunned by everything that had happened in the last few hours. Reflecting on the speed of the changes that unfolded. However, I chose not to analyze anything at that moment. I was overcome with a happiness I hadn't experienced in a long time, and that feeling was what mattered. After all, Edward was my husband, we were legally married, and there was nothing wrong with what we were doing. With excitement coursing through my body, I finally got out of bed and went in search of something to wear for our dinner. I knew Edward would return to the room soon, and some intuition told me that he was telling the truth when he said that if I stayed lying down, we wouldn't leave the house that day.Unlike the last time we shared dinner, Edward took me to one of his favorite restaurants, an extremely luxurious place frequented only by London's highest elite. When we entered the restaurant, I noticed discreet glances turned in our direction. However, it didn'
BeatriceEdward called me in the late afternoon, inviting me to go out for dinner again. Upon hearing his voice, my heart skipped a beat, and I found myself questioning if he was still upset about our previous conversation."I don't want us to stay in this deadlock," he said, his voice sounding soft and warm. "I'm trying to rebuild the marriage between us."I remained silent for a moment, pondering his words. I wasn't sure if I was ready to dive back into that complex relationship, but something in his sincerity touched me."Alright, Edward, I accept. Let's go out for dinner tonight."He seemed genuinely pleased with my response. This time, however, my heart was lighter. I wanted to give this fresh start a chance, and I hoped Edward was also willing to do so.In the evening, Edward took me again to his favorite restaurant, and the atmosphere was completely different from the last dinner. He was determined to make me smile and made an effort to make the night enjoyable. We talked about
EdwardA sense of total disbelief overcame me as I watched Beatrice simply leave the restaurant, giving me no explanation. She left me standing there alone, after the unfortunate way Louise questioned our relationship. Beatrice had never done anything like this before, and I could never have imagined that she would be capable of such an act.Despite feeling extremely irritated with her actions, I couldn't entirely say that she was wrong to do so. Louise had crossed all boundaries, questioning me in that way about something that was none of her business.“Why are you looking at me with that angry face, mon chéri?” Louise dares to ask me, pretending to be clueless.“Don't play dumb, Louise; it doesn't suit you. I must say I'm quite disappointed with your a
BeatriceInside Sebastian's car, I noticed he was looking directly at my face as if searching for something."What were you doing on the restaurant sidewalk?" he asked, showing both concern and joy. "Especially alone!""I was looking for a taxi," I replied without going into further details."Were you crying?" he asked, furrowing his brow.Upon hearing his question, I remembered that I had indeed let a few stubborn tears fall down my face, and that fact now left me quite embarrassed."I tripped and almost twisted my ankle, but I'm fine, don't worry," I blatantly lied. "I can't believe you're in London and didn't contact me, Sebastian."I quick
BeatriceI barely slept, and by the time the day dawned, I was already up, anxious for the time when I needed to be at the newspaper. Only then could I occupy my thoughts with something other than my husband, who is, in fact, my ex-husband, but not really. What a tremendous confusion I was making! And then there were Sebastian's words that wouldn't leave my mind for a single minute. Now everything made sense because since Edward completely changed his attitude towards me, I wondered what had led him to do that when he never tried to make our marriage work.I always fought alone, always loved alone. The truth is that Edward always left me alone in every way, and now he was trying to recover something for which he never cared. The reason could only be the one Sebastian so wisely pointed out. With those thoughts tormenting me every moment that morning, I drove to the newspaper on autopilot, not paying attention to anything. I didn't even know how I managed to get to my office and start a
