AMAYA'S POV
“I know too,” I whispered back and we glanced at Nelo whose eyes were firmly rooted at the entrance in anticipation.
Nelo's eyes may have been the one focused on the entrance but truthfully I was the most anxious. I didn't understand the reason for the way my heart was racing.
“Shhh! Shut your mouths or I shut it for you girls!” Instructor Matt bellowed at the top of his voice again.
The thudding sound of what I imagined to be from the boot of a heavy sole sounded against the floor and a few seconds later Alpha Lucius walked into the hall with two men following closely behind him. The hall went silent instantly so much you could hear a tiny pin drop.
“Bow your heads! Don't you dare look the Alpha in the eyes!” instructor Matt barked.
“Didn't they say we were now living in the new times,” I scoffed inside me. “They do everything modern but where they draw the line is when it comes to bowing for a tyrant.”
“Greet your Alpha!”
My voice wouldn't be heard anyways so I didn't bother myself following other girls to yell the usual Alpha greetings.
“Even if you won't speak, move your mouth” Selene nudged me.
I raised my head a bit and peeked through my lashes. From all the stories told and heard about Lucius, I didn't find anything intimidating about him. He just had this cocky look like most of the other Alphas. But I wouldn't deny the fact that he was handsome. That one true rumour.
“Is he looking my way? Oh goddess, I'm so nervous.” Nelo grabbed my hand and Selene’s and murmured nervously.
“Don’t overreact. He isn't looking this way.”
The two men he entered with stood closely beside him. From my guess, I could tell they were his Beta and Gamma. Something one of them had around his arm caught my eyes.
I straightened immediately. Goddess, I had searched the entire training centre for this. A super strength maximizer. I had heard a lot of people talk about how powerful it was but never witnessed its power until one day when I snuck into the training centre disguised as a man. A visiting man had come with it and fought with it. Ever since then, I had dreamt of wearing one.
I stretched my neck trying to get a better view of it. I was excited. Just like I always was each time I saw new equipment.
“The Alpha is looking at us now,” Selene whispered.
“You mean he is looking at our faces?” Nelo asked back with a kick.
“No, he is looking at us. He is coming this way. He is coming this way!”
I could distantly hear Nelo and Selene's back and forth whispers but none of it translated in my brain. My eyes were rooted at the band. It looked a bit different but I could never miss that.
“Get your head down!” Selene pinched me.
I groaned and finally my eyes left the band to see Alpha Lucius marching towards us. Both Nelo and Selene had already ducked but I was too caught up in the moment to realise I was supposed to duck. All I was imagining was how it would feel like having that strength maximizer around my forearm.
“Get your head down!” Selene pinched me again and this time more painful. I then ducked but it was already too late.
“You…raise your face.” I heard his deep voice say but I didn't move.
“Me?” I heard Nelo ask.
Now my heart was really hammering against my rib cage. It had to be from the excitement of seeing the band. It had to be. But the excitement of my wolf was the one thing that didn't add up.
“No. You,” came the deep voice again.
“He is talking to you.” Selene nudged me.
My heart skipped.
Me? Why would he?
I looked up.
Ocean dreamy eyes gripped me. My heart skipped again. I couldn't blink. My wolf leapt. Very vivid this time. Again, the rumours of his handsomeness were not a lie. His eyes could practically have anyone staring right into them for minutes. I blinked and bent my head suddenly aware of his piercing stare.
“Get up. What is your name?” he commanded me in a low tone.
I obeyed.
“Get out here,” he ordered again.
I was confused but just before I asked for clarification, he repeated his command. His voice was low yet brutal.
Nelo and Selene made way for me to step out. My legs suddenly felt so heavy as I stepped out.
In a flash, he leaned forward bringing his face levelled with mine. I gasped and by impulse tried to draw back but his arms circled my waist and he gathered me to himself in a moment.
That moment I forgot how to breathe nor how to yell. Every ounce of my body went frozen as our eyes locked.
He sniffed me and I heard him mutter “no, this can't be…”
The leaping of my wolf had grown more vicious now. Above the murmurings of the girls, my heart pounded. I quickly disengaged from him and flinched away. My head was telling me something. I chewed my lower lips. The strange feelings, my wolf leaps, the erratic chest race. Everything was slowly beginning to make sense. I had heard stories, even witnessed some of it. And with my wolf acting very strange, there was only one direction to point.
At the dawn of it, my jaw dropped. I lifted my face trying to slowly grasp the whole thing. Lucius spun and marched to the two men he had walked in with.
“Bring her,” he commanded and stormed out.
“Follow us,” one of the men came and said to me.
My legs had been taught to obey and without a single word I followed them. My brain was still struggling to process what had just happened. The screamings from the girls blasted into my ears and like a clueless teenage girl I followed them. I had no idea why I was asked to follow them nor did I understand Lucius' reactions and why he mumbled those words. Was he already aware of…
“Get in!”
Two cars were parked outside and they pointed me to one to get in. As I was getting in, the other car started to move.
AMAYA’S POV I had never rode in a car as exquisite as this one I was in. The two men which I had been able to distinguish between the Beta and Omega after I heard instructor Matt bidding them goodbye both sat in front while I was left all alone at the back. Lucius must have left in the car that drove off first.A bit of relief for me. I had wondered how uncomfortable it would be riding the same car with him after what happened. My palms felt chilly and sweaty. I rubbed them on my laps. My heart had stopped racing heavily now although I still heard it beat faintly. I tried to wound the window down to stare out of it but caught the unpleasant glare from the rear -view mirror and was forced to stop. Everything was clear but I still had my doubts. The thought that Alpha Lucius was likely my mate frightened me. But seeing as he was bringing me to his house, I thought I was overreacting. He was a tyrant. Although a lot of people didn't see him as such, I never really liked him. A slow p
AMAYA'S POV I didn't know for how long I had been in the dungeon but by the time I realised it, the men had dozed off and their snoring almost drove me crazy. I sat at the extreme edge of the cell. My legs had fallen asleep and pinched. I tried to get up to stretch when the guards came and started to drag me out. “Where are you taking me to?!”I was dragged back into the very last same room I saw. As I was being led in, Lucius dismissed the elders. One was staring at me lustfully as they walked off. It took me a big restraint to not spat on his fat slagged face.I wondered why he brought me out. I was never giving in to his demands. He waited until the elders were all gone and we were left alone in the room. “Have you changed your mind?”“Never,” I gritted. Where my boldness came from baffled me. But the thought of having his lustful tyrant hands on me disgusted me. I knew my refusal to his demands could land me in serious trouble. I was afraid of death and most importantly I was
NELO'S POVMy hatred for Amaya started the very day she was brought into the servants house. Before her arrival, even though I was nothing but a servant, life was fairly perfect for me. Until that day when she walked into the house and everything changed. I was shining so bright until she appeared and dimmed my light. She always found ways to steal my moments. And then she’d cover it with her pretentious smile and fake words of care. I hated it. Hated it more that the only way to shine was to be friends with her. I hated it so much that ever since she stepped foot into the quarters, no one recognized me again. I was always placed below her. It was always her. All the men that practically crawled to have me switched and lined up for her. I stopped receiving gifts and compliments. The girls that used to hover around me all clung to her and worshipped her. And just this one moment I wanted to shine again, just this moment that was meant for me, she had to be there to take it away. B
AMAYA “Why do you always train this hard? We are not allowed to go to war like the men and by the way, there's no more war, in case you forgot,” my best friend Nelo mumbled with a frown as we tiptoed down the corridor. “And really, com'on. Things have changed. We are no longer in the olden days where the packs go to war all the time and everyone can join in just because they can shift into their wolves and—”“Shhhh.” I quickly shushed her and pinned her to the wall as I heard footsteps approaching. “No, for real, tell me honestly. Why are you pushing yourself too hard? Or wait… don't tell me you are hoping to find favour in the eyes of Alpha Lucius?” I waited until the footsteps became distant before I let my hand free. “No way…” she stared at me with her eyes wide and then gasped. “What?” I arranged the warrior kit on my body half listening to more of her unproven and mere gut-feeling suspicions. Knowing Nelo, she was about to say the most ridiculous thing. And of course she di
