Adrian’s POV

I left Jemima’s room feeling like a piece of shit. She didn't deserve this. She didn't deserve to be punished for my past experiences but I couldn't help it.

It had been easier to pretend that I thought the reason she was mad was because we had sex. Easier than admitting that I had pulled away and talking to her about Sienna.

Thoughts of her still hurt and it wouldn't be a good thing if my mate thought that I was still so affected by my dead mate.

“You look so lost,” my beta said, startling me. I hadn't noticed his presence.

His eyes sparkled with mischief. “You know you can come to me whenever you want with your woman problem, right?”

“Coming from someone who has no experience whatsoever with a woman. Go to bed, Garrett,” I replied.

“That is not true,” he protested, grinning. “You can ask Piper about it.”

I made a face. “Certainly not interested. Now, if you don't have anything else to say, allow me retire to my bedroom in peace.”

“How did it go with Abigail?” he que

Jemima’s POVThe way he said my government-issued name was enough to make me shudder with desire.I was well aware of my nipples hardening and poking through the thin material of my shirt which I held to my chest even as I jutted my chin stubbornly at him. It was as though there was a force pushing me to vex him as much as I could. A force I couldn't resist.“You have no right to tell me what or what not to say, Adrian Blackthorn. You can't control me like the rest of your Pack members.”A muscle in his jaw clenched at my provocation and then his gaze lowered to my chest, eyes lighting up with fascination at the way my hard nipples were threatening to poke through my shirt. My mouth went dry as his gaze darkened with a combination of fierce hunger and anger. “I guess I should head back to the Pack house,” Piper said, her voice barely above a whisper and turned to leave.Neither the Alpha nor I turned to acknowledge her. I found out that I couldn't barely move. The heat in my mate’s

Adrian’s POVShe started to say something about the possibility of someone walking in on us but I wasn’t having any of it. The thrill at the thought of being caught only heightened my desires and I wanted nothing more than to take her right there and then. I needed to hear her moans of pleasure. I wanted to make her scream so loud that those at the Pack house would have no doubt about what was going on in the sanctuary of the forest.“You pleasured me right here,” I began with a grin. “It’s only fair that I do the same.”Jemima started to say something else but I silenced her by placing a finger on her lips.I ignored the uncertainty in her eyes and gently guided her back down onto the forest floor.“Just try to relax. Trust me, no one is going to come here. Piper would have warned the others to steer clear of this area.”Reassured by my words, she visibly relaxed and gave me a small nod of approval. A grin of triumph spread across my lips and I wasted no time in burying my face be

Jemima’s POVI scoffed at his concern for my safety. It wasn't as though I was made of glass. And he knew that besides my supernatural strength as a werewolf, I also happened to have magical abilities. “Trust me, Adrian, I am very capable of taking care of myself. You saw my fighting skills during the fight with the rival Pack. There is no need for you to be afraid of me getting hurt.”His lips curled into a small smile. “If I didn't know any better I would think that you are just trying to avoid me. Because there is no need for you to be so against training with me alone.”I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. “I never said I was against it. I just didn't like the way your words implied that I was too fragile.”He snorted. “So that's the problem? Does it hurt your pride to be thought of as fragile?”“Don’t start, Adrian,” I murmured, starting to rise from my seat.“Don’t you dare move an inch,” he snapped, his voice suddenly cold. Blinking in shock at the sudden change, I planted my

Jemima’s POV“Piper!” I exclaimed and then buried my face in my hands in embarrassment. She giggled. “There is nothing to be shy about. It's very normal. I just can't wait to find my own mate. The whole Pack is certainly going to know when we are at it.”“You can’t be serious,” I replied, my embarrassment temporarily forgotten at the brazenness of her speech.Piper wiggled her brows. “Why do you seem so shocked? It's not as though you and Adrian are exactly discreet when it comes to sex.”My cheeks burned with embarrassment again. “Can we please change the topic?”“Of course,” she replied with a smile and began to rise from her seat.“I didn't ask you to leave did I?” I queried, puzzled as to why she was leaving the dining table. “You are hungry, aren't you?” she replied, rolling her eyes. “I am going to the kitchen to fix you a plate of food.”My eyes widened slightly. I felt uncomfortable at the thought of being served. My stepmother and stepsister treated me like a slave while g

Jemima’s POVTo my annoyance, Adrian wasn't on the training field when I got there. As I tried to get my breathing under control, I looked around the field, marvelling at the level of concentration everyone seemed to possess as they trained. Some pairs trained with weapons while others used their fists. My eyes scanned the sea of bodies for Garrett or Piper. They were certainly going to have an idea about their Alpha’s whereabouts.I felt a tap on my shoulder and whirled around to face a smiling Garrett. Still annoyed that he had ratted me out to his Alpha, I didn't return his smile.“Do you have any idea where Adrian is? He asked me to meet him here.”His smile didn't falter. “And a pleasant morning to you too, Jemima. How did you sleep?”“Good,” I replied curtly. “Could you please tell me where he is now?”Garrett’s expression became one of deep thoughtfulness as he stroked his chin.“I can't remember right now where he is but if you could give me a couple of minutes, I would ce

Jemima’s POVMy hands became slick with blood as I placed them on top of the deep wound.I tried to remember exactly how I had healed Garrett when he had been brought to the Pack territory after the fight, with nearly dismembered limbs. Adrian moaned weakly and my heart threatened to burst out of its cage in alarm when I realized that his eyes were no longer open. Quickly, I felt his pulse. It was very weak. I had to do something fast and I promised myself that I was going to kill him when I had found a solution. With Garrett, I had acted purely on my intuition. I hadn't even realized before then that I could heal. I was still trying to understand how I made it happen. “If you don't act now, he is going to die,” Kiona said, her panicked voice matching my feelings. I closed my eyes and willed myself to relax. Nothing was going to happen if my mind wasn't calm, that much I knew.“Focus on your desire to make him well again,” my wolf spoke again and I wanted to scream at her to be q

Adrian’s POVShe looked so frightened and guilty at the same time that I wanted to take her in my arms and never let go.Her wonderfully large eyes were filled with a kind of uncertainty as she gazed at me, waiting for me to judge her because of her mistake. I knew I was right to decide that she had to work on mastering her abilities. She obviously still had a lot to learn especially when it came to controlling her emotions which were supposed to be a fuel for her magic.“I’m taking this seriously, Jemima. I just don’t think you should be so bothered about this. The first thing you are going to need to learn is controlling your emotions and imagination.”Her eyes were suddenly filled with weariness and I moved my finger from her lips to cup her chin. “There is no need to overthink things. You can do this, I am sure of it. Power like this wouldn’t have been given to you if you weren’t found worthy of it.”She closed her eyes for a moment and released a sigh. When she opened them, the

Jemima’s POVIt was my first time being in his room and it smelled just like him. A simple combination of sandalwood and masculine essence. I drew my eyes away from the neatly laid king-sized bed and spotted the bathroom door. Adrian had agreed to wait in the living room while I cleaned up and I was angry at him because of that. It was annoying and confusing that I wanted him so close to me but also wanted to put some distance between us. “You are a nutcase, Jemima,” I said to myself as I washed my hands in the sink. “Just what exactly do you want?”After washing my face also, I walked out of the bathroom, half-expecting to see my mate sprawled out on his bed. Disappointment settled in my stomach at his absence and I felt angry at myself. This nonsense had to stop. He didn't look up the minute I stepped into the living room but I knew by the rigid way he held his body that he was well aware of my presence. “I guess training’s over for today,” I said, standing in front of him.

Jemima’s POVOne of the things I got deeply involved in once I returned to the Moonstone Pack was training with the soldiers a few days a week. Aside from becoming even better in my magical abilities, I also had to take my physical training seriously. There were hand-to-hand combats, training with weapons and also learning how to become more precise and focused when fighting in our wolf forms. Things were going smoothly in the Pack, and because I had suddenly become well-known throughout most Packs for my insane extraordinary abilities, there were more Packs who wanted to go into a business partnership with us. It was also quite normal for Packs to seek our help when they were fighting against a much stronger adversary. So yeah, as far as being successful went, the Moonstone Pack was killing it. The only thing that bothered me every now and then was that the Alpha had still not marked me and made me his Luna. Even though his Pack members had been whispering among themselves, wo

Jemima’s POVPiper looked at our intertwined hands and grinned. “I guess you won't be returning to your room tonight.”“Why not?” I queried innocently. “He just wants to eat dinner with me that's all.” I turned my gaze to my mate. “That’s all, right?”“Of course,” he replied, matching my innocent expression. My friend giggled. “Whatever. Just try not to scream too loudly like that other night. I could barely sleep and you also know that there are children around.”She laughed when my cheeks immediately turned a bright shade of pink and merrily ran up the steps and into the building. I turned to my mate. “It's all your fault, you know that right?”“How?” he queried with wide-eyed innocence. “The screams come from your mouth and not mine. Besides, aren't you the one who always wants me to go that hard?”“Enough,” I said in a loud whisper, clasping my hand over his mouth. Two of the guards had chosen that moment to pass by us and judging by the amused looks they gave their Alpha, they

Jemima’s POVWhile I was well aware of the fact that my mate still hesitated to mark me anytime we had sex, I still tried not to let his reluctance affect our friendship. Yes. Friendship was what I chose to call our relationship. In my mind, we were actually friends with benefits. If he wasn't ready to do the one thing that was going to emotionally bind us together, I was not going to force him. I wasn't going to let the fact that there was still a third person in our mate bond situation– his dead mate. It had taken a lot of inner dialogue with myself to decide that I was never going to bring her up in our conversations despite the fact that he still said her name in his sleep. I also tried as much as I could not to let it bother me that he still hadn't asked me to move into his apartment. Perhaps, the personal space was a good thing for both of us. At least, we were friends and friends didn't have to live together. Yes, we were going to start with true friendship. Unfortunate

Jemima’s POVIf he said my name one more time like that, I was positively going to combust on the spot. The heat in his gaze was already making it hard enough for me to concentrate on teasing him. I toyed with the waistband of my panties for a couple of seconds, undulating my hips in a suggestive manner.Without stopping the movement of my hips, I began to slowly pull my panties down. Another gasp escaped my mate’s lips as I allowed the flimsy material to fall to my ankles.“Come here,” he murmured and I stepped out of the panties to slowly walk towards the bed. “You are really going to pay for teasing me like that,” he said in a hoarse voice. “You have no idea how hard it was for me not to explode just from watching you.”My lips curled into the smug smile of a woman well aware of her feminine power as I straddled his hips. His hands immediately went to my butt and started to lovingly knead it.“I thought you enjoyed every bit of the show,” I purred. “Surely, you wouldn't punish

Jemima’s POVA gasp slipped from my lips at his question and for a couple of seconds, I could only stare at him, at a loss for what to say.Perhaps, a huge part of me had thought that he had put the incident that happened the other day at the Midnight Pack behind him.I had been sorely wrong. “So you can’t speak now?” he queried, his voice quavering with barely concealed rage. “Say something Jemima before I lose my damn mind.”My eyes closed as I drew in a shuddering breath and silently prayed to the Moon Goddess for wisdom to handle the situation. “Adrian,” I began, “Nothing happened between me and Zade. It was just….”“I want the truth, Jemima,” he snapped, cutting me off. “If we are going to continue whatever it is that we had before you left, I would want to be sure that I can trust you. I want to be sure that your affections do not lie somewhere else.”“You are my mate, Adrian. I wouldn't put anyone else before you. You asked for the truth and I am going to give it to you.”I d

Jemima’s POVIf I had been expecting a very warm welcome from Adrian, then I would have been sorely disappointed. But even though I hadn't been expecting it, he could have at least even tried to pretend that he was pleased to see me. It was a good thing that at least his Pack members were more excited about my return. They had even prepared a feast which we all settled down to enjoy in the general hall. I couldn't help but notice that the Alpha was absent. If I had any doubts before that he wasn't pleased about my return, his absence from a feast prepared on my behalf made me certain.“Perhaps, he is just too overwhelmed to be in your presence,” the Beta said, earning a scoff from Piper. Briefly, they glared at each other. “It's wrong for him not to be here. The only acceptable excuse is if he is currently on the verge of death and the last time I checked, he was perfectly healthy,” she replied. “It's okay guys. The rest of you are here. It would be most ungrateful for me not to

Adrian’s POV“Of course, you dumbass,” she replied with a small smile and I released a breath I didn't realize I had been holding. “Did you really think that I was going to come here, reject you and then return to the Midnight Pack?” she queried with mild disbelief etched on her features. I shrugged. “I had to consider the possibility so that I wouldn't feel too disappointed if it happened.”She shook her head. “You really need to have a little faith in people, especially your own mate. I would never do that to you. You might not know this about me but I'm never disloyal to the one who is loyal to me.”“I’ll keep that in mind,” I replied. Afterwards, a silence so awkward descended on the room that I wished someone would just show up to make things a little lighter. My gaze had returned to the file on my desk, and though I could see the words, I could not make sense of them. I knew it was unusual for things to feel weird between mates, but I just couldn't help the feeling of anxiet

Adrian’s POVWhen Piper had told me that my mate, if I could still call her that, was going to be returning to the Pack the following week, I scoffed. She had arched an eyebrow questioningly. “I thought you were going to react to this piece of information with a little bit more excitement.”“Did she tell you exactly why she’s coming here?” I queried and Piper’s brows knitted together in confusion. It occurred to me that Jemina had not told her friend all the details of the argument that happened between us the last time we saw each other. It had hurt me but I had decided to allow her the freedom to make a choice. Zade or me. She was supposed to come to the Pack to reject me if she had chosen to be with Zade.“Never mind,” I said to Piper with a forced smile. She rolled her eyes. “So you really haven’t spoken with her since after the argument? Come on, you two are supposed to have sorted things out by now, don’t you think?”“Perhaps, we might start working on that when she returns,

Jemima’s POVEventually, my training came to an end and I still hadn't met this guardian angel of mine who had asked Zade to help me master my abilities. I still also hadn’t discovered what my so-called destiny was, why I had these abilities and why some people wanted me dead. Speaking of death, it was quite surprising that throughout my stay at the Midnight Pack, there was no attempt on my life. Not even when I had decided to be courageous and had gone for a walk at the Park with Aurora a few times. Zade made sure that my hair was covered though so that people wouldn't notice the rare streaks in it.On the day I was supposed to leave Zade’s Pack, I was filled with mixed feelings. It didn't help that Aurora had decided to stay behind. We had really bonded over the months and it kind of hurt to just be separated from her.But I understood why though. The Beta had started to show her some affection and she felt it was going to lead somewhere. She had always had a massive crush on
