Adrian Blackthorn’s POV

...The Pack’s Territory

The forest stirred as dawn broke, streaking the sky with hints of gold and amber. Light filtered through the trees, chasing away the shadows, but unease lingered in the air. My wolf, Kieran, prowled restlessly in the back of my mind, his instincts sharpening after last night’s attack. Something about it didn’t sit right. Rogues didn’t target specific wolves like that—it wasn’t their way.

I cast a glance at Jemima walking beside me. Her steps were light, yet she moved with a quiet resolve that betrayed her tension. Strands of auburn hair caught the sunlight, and for a fleeting moment, I found myself captivated. The mate bond tugged at me like a tether, strong and unrelenting, but I shoved the feeling aside. Letting her in wasn’t an option—not after everything I’d endured.

When we reached the clearing, the low murmur of conversation among the pack stilled. Every gaze turned toward Jemima. The curiosity in their expressions was palpab

~Jemima Steele POV....The Pack’s ForestThe sun was high, but the forest didn’t feel warm. I walked along the trail, each step crunching softly on fallen leaves. The air felt heavy, as if the trees were keeping secrets. My wolf, Kiona, stayed quiet but watchful in the back of my mind. She’d been restless all morning, her unease stirring my own.Adrian had told me to patrol near the edge of the pack’s land. I knew he was just trying to keep me away from the others. He thought he was keeping me safe. But I’d had enough of being protected. I wasn’t the same scared girl who used to hide from everything.Stay sharp, Kiona said, her voice steady. Something isn’t right.I tightened my grip on the small dagger at my side. The forest felt too quiet, like something was waiting. I stopped suddenly, my breath catching. There was a rustling in the bushes ahead. It wasn’t loud, but it was enough to make me crouch low, my senses sharpening.Kiona growled softly in my mind. Then, a wolf stepped out

~Adrian Blackthorn POV....The Pack’s TerritoryThe sun had just come up, but I was already awake. Sleep wasn’t easy after everything that had happened. Jemima’s story about the man in the forest wouldn’t leave my mind. His words—they didn’t sound like just threats. They felt like something worse. I hated not knowing what was coming.Garrett was waiting for me near the clearing. He looked as tired as I felt. “No news,” he said. “The scouts didn’t find anything. Whoever this guy is, he knows how to stay hidden.”I nodded and clenched my jaw. “Tell them to keep looking. We can’t stop now.”Garrett paused and looked at me. “Do you think this is about Jemima?”I didn’t answer right away, but I already knew the truth. It was about her. Since she came here, everything had changed. First the rogue attack, and now this. Someone was targeting her, or they wanted her to be afraid. Either way, I wasn’t going to let it happen.“I’m going out myself,” I said. “I want to see if there’s anything we

~Jemima’s POVThe days felt endless, stretching out like a thread that might snap at any moment. Life in the pack house, once a comforting rhythm of routine and community, now felt suffocating. Fear clung to the walls, and the whispers that floated through the corridors carried unspoken accusations.Whenever I passed a group of pack members, conversations would falter, their eyes trailing me with a mixture of unease and suspicion. It was as though I had become a living reminder of the chaos that had unsettled our lives.I hated those stares. They didn’t just watch me—they weighed me down, filling me with doubt. A gnawing voice inside whispered the question I feared most: What if they’re right? What if this is my fault?Adrian stayed close, a silent shadow who seemed to think his presence alone could shield me from the growing tension. He wasn’t overbearing, nor did he try to force his concern on me, but his watchfulness felt like chains. I knew he meant well, but his constant vigilanc

~Adrian Blackthorn POV....The Pack’s TerritoryThe morning was cool, and the mist wrapped around the trees like a blanket. I walked through the forest toward the eastern border, where the scouts had reported fresh tracks. My wolf, Kieran, was tense. I could feel his frustration echoing in my chest. We need to act fast, Kieran growled. They’re testing us, trying to see how far they can go.I know, I replied, gripping the hilt of my dagger tightly. Whoever was out there wasn’t passing through. They had a purpose, and I wasn’t going to let them succeed. When I reached the border, Garrett was already there. He stood near a scout, pointing at faint tracks in the dirt.“How fresh are these?” I asked, crouching to take a closer look.“Not more than a few hours,” Garrett replied. “But they vanish ahead, like whoever left them disappeared.”I traced the outline of a print with my finger. It was too clean to belong to a rogue. Rogues didn’t bother hiding their tracks. Whoever this was knew how

I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was coming.“Do you ever feel like we’re being watched?” I asked.Adrian glanced at me. “All the time. That’s our life. Always being watched.”But this felt different. There was something heavy in the air. Even Kiona, my wolf, felt uneasy. The trees seemed alive today, creaking like they were talking. The sun shone, but it didn’t feel warm.We reached the clearing where the stones stood. They were old, silent, and strange. I stared at them. I couldn’t understand why they pulled me in. The glow at night, the hum—they didn’t feel right.Adrian stopped beside me. “You’re thinking about the voice again, aren’t you?”I nodded. “It felt too real. Like it was meant for me.”“We’ll find out what it was,” he said quietly.I wanted to believe him. But what if we were already too late? What if the

The Hidden TruthJemima Steele POV...The Pack's TerritoryThe sun had risen, but the forest felt shadowed, like it was holding something back. I stood near the clearing, my eyes fixed on the stones. Adrian’s words, “They’re closer than we’d like,” echoed in my mind. I didn’t know who “they” were, but I felt a presence, like someone was watching us. Even with the patrols out in force, the forest didn’t feel safe.Adrian emerged from the trees, scanning the area like he was searching for something. He appeared calm, but I could see the tension in his movements.“Did you find anything?” I asked. He shook his head. “Not yet, but we will.”We stood in silence, the weight of the moment pressing down on us. It felt like the forest itself was holding its breath, waiting for something.“Garrett and the others are searching,” Adrian said. “If something’s out there, they’ll find it.”I nodded, but my thoughts kept returning to that voice. Chapter Fifteen: Whispers in the DarkJemima Steele’s POVThe morning air hung around me, damp and heavy, making it hard to shake off the lingering tension. The house was quiet—not the comforting kind of quiet, but the kind that felt loaded with unspoken fears and unanswered questions. Adrian’s words from last night echoed in my mind: They’re testing us. I couldn’t stop wondering what he meant. Why did it feel like the whole forest was holding its breath, waiting for something to happen?I headed to the kitchen, drawn by the faint smell of coffee. Garrett stood at the counter, his shoulders stiff as he poured himself a cup. He glanced over when he saw me, and for the first time, his usual playful smirk was gone. Instead, his face held a wary seriousness.“Morning,” he said, his voice rough.“Morning,” I replied, trying to sound calm. “Any news?”He shook his head, his lips pressed tight. “The patrols didn’t find anything new. Jemima Steele’s POVAdrian’s voice from the meeting last night stayed with me: They’re not testing just the pack. They’re testing us all.I wrapped my arms around myself and stepped outside. The mist lay heavy over the forest, blurring the trees into gray shadows. The world felt smaller, quieter. Even the birds were silent.Kiona stirred in my mind, her voice calm but firm. “Stay sharp, Jemima. The forest is hiding more than mist today.”I know, I replied silently. The unease that clung to me since the vision at the stones hadn’t left. If anything, it had grown stronger. I’d told Adrian what I’d seen, but even his steady presence couldn’t erase the fear. The sound of footsteps pulled me from my thoughts. Garrett appeared from the trees, his face grim. “Adrian wants everyone in the main hall,” he said without preamble.I followed him back inside, where the rest of the pack was already gathering. Jemima’s POVA gasp slipped from my lips at his question and for a couple of seconds, I could only stare at him, at a loss for what to say.Perhaps, a huge part of me had thought that he had put the incident that happened the other day at the Midnight Pack behind him.I had been sorely wrong. “So you can’t speak now?” he queried, his voice quavering with barely concealed rage. “Say something Jemima before I lose my damn mind.”My eyes closed as I drew in a shuddering breath and silently prayed to the Moon Goddess for wisdom to handle the situation. “Adrian,” I began, “Nothing happened between me and Zade. It was just….”“I want the truth, Jemima,” he snapped, cutting me off. “If we are going to continue whatever it is that we had before you left, I would want to be sure that I can trust you. I want to be sure that your affections do not lie somewhere else.”“You are my mate, Adrian. I wouldn't put anyone else before you. You asked for the truth and I am going to give it to you.”I d

Jemima’s POVIf I had been expecting a very warm welcome from Adrian, then I would have been sorely disappointed. But even though I hadn't been expecting it, he could have at least even tried to pretend that he was pleased to see me. It was a good thing that at least his Pack members were more excited about my return. They had even prepared a feast which we all settled down to enjoy in the general hall. I couldn't help but notice that the Alpha was absent. If I had any doubts before that he wasn't pleased about my return, his absence from a feast prepared on my behalf made me certain.“Perhaps, he is just too overwhelmed to be in your presence,” the Beta said, earning a scoff from Piper. Briefly, they glared at each other. “It's wrong for him not to be here. The only acceptable excuse is if he is currently on the verge of death and the last time I checked, he was perfectly healthy,” she replied. “It's okay guys. The rest of you are here. It would be most ungrateful for me not to

Adrian’s POV“Of course, you dumbass,” she replied with a small smile and I released a breath I didn't realize I had been holding. “Did you really think that I was going to come here, reject you and then return to the Midnight Pack?” she queried with mild disbelief etched on her features. I shrugged. “I had to consider the possibility so that I wouldn't feel too disappointed if it happened.”She shook her head. “You really need to have a little faith in people, especially your own mate. I would never do that to you. You might not know this about me but I'm never disloyal to the one who is loyal to me.”“I’ll keep that in mind,” I replied. Afterwards, a silence so awkward descended on the room that I wished someone would just show up to make things a little lighter. My gaze had returned to the file on my desk, and though I could see the words, I could not make sense of them. I knew it was unusual for things to feel weird between mates, but I just couldn't help the feeling of anxiet

Adrian’s POVWhen Piper had told me that my mate, if I could still call her that, was going to be returning to the Pack the following week, I scoffed. She had arched an eyebrow questioningly. “I thought you were going to react to this piece of information with a little bit more excitement.”“Did she tell you exactly why she’s coming here?” I queried and Piper’s brows knitted together in confusion. It occurred to me that Jemina had not told her friend all the details of the argument that happened between us the last time we saw each other. It had hurt me but I had decided to allow her the freedom to make a choice. Zade or me. She was supposed to come to the Pack to reject me if she had chosen to be with Zade.“Never mind,” I said to Piper with a forced smile. She rolled her eyes. “So you really haven’t spoken with her since after the argument? Come on, you two are supposed to have sorted things out by now, don’t you think?”“Perhaps, we might start working on that when she returns,

Jemima’s POVEventually, my training came to an end and I still hadn't met this guardian angel of mine who had asked Zade to help me master my abilities. I still also hadn’t discovered what my so-called destiny was, why I had these abilities and why some people wanted me dead. Speaking of death, it was quite surprising that throughout my stay at the Midnight Pack, there was no attempt on my life. Not even when I had decided to be courageous and had gone for a walk at the Park with Aurora a few times. Zade made sure that my hair was covered though so that people wouldn't notice the rare streaks in it.On the day I was supposed to leave Zade’s Pack, I was filled with mixed feelings. It didn't help that Aurora had decided to stay behind. We had really bonded over the months and it kind of hurt to just be separated from her.But I understood why though. The Beta had started to show her some affection and she felt it was going to lead somewhere. She had always had a massive crush on

Jemima’s POVJust at that moment, the door burst open and we pulled apart. But the damage had already been done. “Adrian,” I began, nervously tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “I wasn't expecting your visit today.”“Obviously,” he murmured spitefully, glaring at the other Alpha who didn't even seem to notice my mate’s anger. I guessed he was still thinking about the question I had asked.“Is everything alright back at the Pack?” I queried.“Do you even care?” he replied, looking at me with a mix of hurt and disappointment in his eyes. “Is being locked in a passionate embrace with him now a part of your training?”“Adrian,” I began but he cut me off.“Is he the one you want to be with? All you have to do is say the word and I'm going to leave you be. We could reject each other and move on. It's not like we are that emotionally attached anyway.”A gasp of disbelief slipped from my lips. I knew he was hurting but his words were quite harsh. “Stop being so immature, will you?” Za

Jemima’s POVMy discovery of the rogues’ hideout made things a lot easier. In the end, there was indeed a witch making them cause chaos that easily without being caught. The bastards had kidnapped her daughter and threatened to kill her the second any of them dropped dead due to her spells. So she had had no choice but to help them for the sake of her daughter.“You did good today,” Zade said the minute we were within the walls of the palace. “We could easily take them down and counter the other witch’s power because of your abilities.”He was giving me too much credit in my opinion. Zade had also done a whole lot of work using both his abilities as a sorcerer and a werewolf. My lips curled into a teasing smile. “Did you just give me a compliment? I guess there is going to be a major eclipse today.”He rolled his eyes. “Don’t make me take it back.”Later that day, Adrian showed up. The fact that I had been instrumental in capturing the rogues and that I was safe, didn't make him a

Jemima’s POVFinding out where exactly the rogues were coming from was one of the things that I was tasked with. For the first time, I was going to use my power of remote viewing in a real-life situation.“It's impossible for rogues to be that elusive,” Zade was saying. We were on the training field with his Beta and some of his soldiers, discussing our plans to catch the rogues. “And it's not as though the soldiers of the Crescentmoon Guard Pack are amateurs. I have seen them in action before and can testify that they are very skilled. Capturing a few rogues should be a very simple task for them.”“So what exactly are you trying to bring out here?” Damien queried. “They certainly have help from someone. I know the workings of sorcery when I see it,” Zade replied. “What's baffling is why exactly a witch would offer her services to rogues.”“Perhaps, she is being blackmailed or she just has a personal beef with Alpha George and is using the rogues to do her dirty work,” I replied. “

  • Rejected Omega: The Rise of Jemima   Eighty-Eight

Jemima’s POVAfter the second month of my training, an opportunity came for me to apply all that I had learnt. The Crescentmoon Guard Pack were currently suffering from a serious plague of rogues that seemed to not want to leave them alone. Already, nearly a quarter of the Pack had already been destroyed and the Alpha was at his wits end. Despite the number of soldiers that he had stationed at every part of the Pack’s boundaries, the rogues still seemed to somehow find their way in and wreak their havoc. So elusive and careful were they that not one of them had been caught. I squealed in excitement and clapped my hands like a little kid when Zade told me that his soldiers were going to be helping Alpha George of the Crescentmoon Guard Pack and that I was going to work right beside him. Usually, he wouldn't have joined his soldiers in assisting the neighbouring Pack, but since he wanted to give me real-life training, he had to be there. The only person who was not pleased by thi
