 Adrian's POV

My eyes widened in surprise on seeing what just happened right before my naked eyes. Did jasmine just made Garrett make use of his legs again after all hope we're lost?

It happened so fast that I couldn't predict it. Firstly, the wounds in her thighs closed up by itself and I waved it off and now Garrett sudden healing. How's that even possible? Something seems off, and I can't wait to figure it out.

I grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer, my eyes searching for answers, but before I could say anything she wriggled her hand off and ran away., heading towards her room. I sighed and ran after her. I called her name repeatedly, but she didn't even turn to spare me a glance even for a minute.

She finally got to her doorstep and she pushed her door opened and went inside, and I wanted to follow her in, but she slammed the door to my face and I groaned, stepping backward feeling like a complete loser.

I yelled angrily and started hitting the wall with my knuckle until blood came out. I looked my bloody knuckles and laughed for some seconds.

“Why is she running all of a sudden? Is she scared?” I asked no one in particular, diving my fingers into my hair breathing heavily. I wondered what I did wrong to warrant such attitude from her. She was happy and all smilingly around me just a while ago. What changed?

I didn't turn, instead I headed to my apartment. I needed some time to cool my head off.  Today has been so hectic, and my legs were even starting to hurt badly.

I assumed she was tired, and I won't pressure her to open up. I know her too well, and I'm sure she'll open up once she regains her strength and when she's ready to come clean and face her fears. I'll wait.

I got to the entrance and I held the door knob and pushed it gently stepping inside. The warm and cozy air hit my face as I shut the door behind. I had missed my house so much. It's days now but I still miss it.

The war was really tough and thank goodness we made it. I proceed to my room to take a quick bath, trying to cool my head off. The bath was quick. I dried myself up and came out, and then cladded in a casual outfits. I exit my room and went back to the sitting room. I headed to the kitchen and made a coffee and began sipping from it gently.

Earlier I had asked someone to call Garrett for me. I heard a soft knock on the door and I lifted my head from the cup.

“It's open. You can come in” I said and Garrett came in, walking towards me like someone who wasn't even injured in the first place. The more I try to shrug the thought of that something seems off with Jasmine the more I get lost in the dark. He bowed as soon as he got to me.

My eyes settled on his legs and I returned my gaze  to his face.

It feels like I'm daydreaming but I think it's high time I face reality.

“What really happened? How did you get injured in the first place? Did it happen while you were protecting yourself from the other pack? Start talking” I found myself asking, leaning forward, sitting on the high stool.

He inhaled and exhaled loudly before talking…

“While the war was going on, I decided to join in since it was really hard for the others to fit in. It felt like I was left behind, and would be bad if just sat back doing nothing when the others are trying their way to save the pack. So I transformed and charged towards two wolves which were struggling with someone from our pack. Luck wasn't on my side because they turned at once and teamed up with me instead. By now, everyone was battling on their own and nobody was willing to help. I was powerless at that moment, and they successfully had their way with me, one aimed for my leg while the other one clawed my bodice” He said, his voice sounding like someone who wanted to cry. “I'm deeply sorry, Alpha. I couldn't even help” he said and I sipped my coffee.

That wasn't really my problem right now. What's bothering me right now is how I was going to find out the source of jasmine newly found power.

“Did you notice anything when your wounds were healing? Did you maintain eye contact with her?” I asked, ignoring his explanation, focusing on the matter on ground.

“Jasmine, you mean?” He asked and I nodded.

“It still surprised me, you know. I thought I wouldn't walk ever again since the pack doctor confirmed that that part of my leg got dislocated and my chance of walking with my legs are low” He explained, and I slowly nod at the newly found information.

“Really? He told you it was difficult to use your legs again?” I repeated and he nodded. “Then how were you able to stand on your feet again?” I asked, my ears stood out.

“Yes I did. Her eyes shone brightly while staring at my leg. I haven't seen her like that before. It looks too real to believe.” He narrated and something hit me hard on my head.

Jasmine eyes shone earlier at the woods as she stole glances at her thigh at every given second.

“And not only that… While the wolves were attacking me, jasmine eyes changed colors as she stared at the wolves. The first one scampered away while the second one stayed stubbornly. He continued to pull fiercely at my leg, but he ran off as well like the first one did when he saw jasmine eyes” He explained, and I bit on my lips, dropping the coffee on the table.

Everything makes sense now. There's something going on with Jasmine, and she doesn't even know yet, she just needs time to figure out her powers.

The little, old, worn out white handkerchief that was resting on the flowerpot on the kitchen counter beside the window shook and my brow rose. It's odd for something like this to happen. I held the cup I was holding tightly, staring over at the window.

“Any problem?” Garrett asked, following my gaze. “Another round of fight coming up?” He asked, but I didn't pay attention to him.

I'm completely thinking about something else. My mind wasn't even on what he was saying. I knew all these weren't over when they left like that without giving a warning. Realization hit me at once. Was this what jasmine meant when she said she felt a strange presence back at the woods? I'm starting to doubt that Jasmine is a sorcerer indeed.

I quickly stood up from the stool and ran towards the window with full speed. A thin, creepy smirk escaped my lips when I saw a tail of something slipping into the forest. I clenched my fist in anger, shutting the window.

But I do remember that she had described it as a rather stormy evening with the rain hitting the windows so loudly that one would not have even been able to hear their own thoughts. She had always had this distant expression pressed onto her face whenever she told me about it as if she was immersed in that memory and kind of hesitant to return from. And I wondered why.I never knew who my father was. My single mother never bothered to tell me and I never bothered to ask either because I was smart enough to know that it was a forbidden subject. My mother never talked about him. She always refrained from conversations that would lead to talking about him.My mother was not the ideal type of loving mother. The sun was rising but my spirit wasn’t. Everything about me felt paralyzed. It was too bright for my liking. Jemima lay in my arms, her body lifeless and limp, her breathing shallow. At least she was still breathing. The rising run focused its light on her skin, and it shined like she wasn’t dying in my arms. For a brief moment there, she looked like a goddess, too perfect to be real.“Come on, Jemima,” I murmured, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. “You don’t get to quit on me now. You hear me? You’re tougher than this.”She didn’t stir, she didn’t even move or shake. My wolf growled restlessly in the back of my mind, he was angry and desperate. The next, I was helping Jemima up, and the very next moment, a wolf pounced at me from the shadows, its claws bared and scraping across my side.I staggered but still stayed standing, baring my teeth in a snarl. It was big, bigger than most, but the anger in me gave me strength. I lunged forward, meeting it at once. We tumbled together into the forest, snapping and clawing each other, trying to find an opening for a kill.“Adrian!” Jemima’s voice echoed faintly through the mind link, but the wolf drove me more far away from her. I felt a hint of worry settle down in the pit of my stomach and it had nothing to do with the fight. The wolf went for my neck and he aimed his teeth for a kill but I twisted and turned, managing to grab its throat in my mouth. One by one, the others responded, their human forms shifting into powerful wolves with thick fur and sharp, dark claws. The shift came over me like something I wasn’t prepared for, pulling me under and spitting me out in my wolf form. My senses sharpened instantly, every sound, every scent, every movement in the forest felt as if it was amplified in my headAnd then, there was nothing. No more thudding, no more rustling. Just silence. The kind that wasn’t natural. The kind that made the fur on the back of my neck stand up.“Stay alert,” Adrian warned through the link. His voice was calm, but I could sense the tension that came with it. “Something’s out there.”I bent down low, my claws digg
