.....The Pack's Forest
It had rained cats and dog al through the night. And the downpour had only seized a few minutes to dawn. It was refreshing, the morning after, with the smell of rain water.
The sun rose in the sky after that at its usual time, just as my step mother began to scream profanities at me. I sighed internally as I skipped out of the house before she would unleash her hidden demon. Her latest string of insults still burned in my ears.
Besides, it was just the perfect weather for me to go into the forest, to the little water body there and bath in the water which the sun would warm up.
It always felt real good.
I took a deep breath while letting the quiet of the trees drown out her words. I inhaled that familiar scent of damp earth and wild flowers, of green leaves and rain water combined the moment I stepped into the forest. I stopped to bask in the soothing feeling that it always brought to me. It was like a symphony, a remedy to every trouble in my life.
The sanctuary of this forest was my only haven. It was a place where I could escape to whenever I was tired of my stressful life -I always was. I sought solace here more often than I was always home. It was incredible, the time I spent in there, admiring the scenery, studying the various plants, watching small animals run by. There was also the pleasure that came with bathing inside of the forest pool where the amount of sun heat regulated the temperature.
I was there for so long, in the forest till the shadows began to cast over it and the cool night air washed over my skin. It was because out here, I could almost forget that I was an outcast, unloved by my family.
The clear water was silver under the moonlight as I dipped my fingers into it, playing by the water bank. I watched as the small waves broke around my hand and the cooling sensation that it brought.
Suddenly, I felt a strange warmth spread through out my body, emanating from my heart. I gasped softly as the sensation travelled. I felt a renewed kind of energy as my vision sharpened along with every of my other four senses. My stood as I saw and felt everything with a new clarity, one that I had never experienced before.
And that sudden violent feeling made me double over as I clutched my chest in excruciating pain. I fell to my knees as several voices echoed inside of my head until everything still and I heard only one. It was soft and familiar, yet entirely new.
"Jemima , I am Kiona."
"Who are you?" I thought.
"Your wolf." A shiver ran down my spine at her words. My wolf? So after years of believing that I was a wolf-less hybrid because I didn't turn till now, I would have a wolf? After ten whole years of torture in my father's house at the hands of his wife and his daughter while being marked as an incomplete bastard I would have a wolf?
“Why? Why now?” I whispered as my heart continued to pound with a mixture of awe and fear of the unknown, of acquiring a wolf at twenty one.
"You were not ready to have me Jemima . But now that you are, we are one. Free yourself, succumb to me and allow me to take over." And I closed my eyes and did just that, surrendering myself to her. I felt her strength flood into me. I let go as my transformation began.
I closed my eyes as I began to feel my bones shift and my body reshape with a powerful surge of energy to take the form of my wolf. When I reopened my eyes, everything was different in a vivid way. I looked down to see my reflection in the water.
There was Kiona, my wolf, sleek with ginger fur.
I felt alive in a way that I had never felt before. Everything was intense, every scent, every sound. I took a tentative step while feeling the earth beneath my paws, feeling connected to the world around me.
It was exhilarating.
I retraced my step and launched forward into the deep of the forest, unable to contain my happiness. I sprinted through the trees with my senses in overdrive as I absorbed every detail of the forest. For the first time in my life, I felt independent in a way that I had never been. I was thrilled as I ran with Kiona.
A powerful scent brought me to a halt, filling my nose. It was drawing, that rich redolence. I was entrapped, as I began to follow the scent until I came upon a figure in the shadows. It was a wolf. It was a he. He was larger than me with sharp golden fur and piercing eyes that seemed to glow under the moonlight.
Our eyes met and the world seemed to stop around us.
Something deep, connective surged to life inside of me. My mind fell into a haze of glorious satisfaction and an euphoria that knew no bounds. My heart began to race as we began to advance towards each other as a bond sparked to life inside of us. I knew with certainty that he was my mate.
I shifted instantly, my body seamlessly transitioning back to human form. The rapid transformation left me quite breathless as I came to stand before him, completely nude.
"Mate," I whispered to him. My body grew warm as I found myself standing before him, completely naked, seemingly vulnerable. And yet I somehow felt stronger than I had ever felt in my entire life.
He shifted into his human form, his transformation smooth and seamless as he stood before me as bare as he was born. His eyes held mine with an intensity that made my heart do cartwheels. His rather dark eyes roamed over me, lingering on parts of my body as if he was memorizing every inch of it.
"Mate," he acknowledged in a whisper, his voice rough but warm, filled with an intensity that made my whole body hum with pleasure. The mate bond which was a powerful and undeniable force that drew us to each other pulsed with life between us as we stood there, only inches apart. The silence was heavy with unspoken tension and I could feel the heat that was radiating from his body and mine too. His gaze seared into me as if he wanted to see into my soul.
And without a word, he reached for my cheeks, his hand stroking it tenderly. His touch burnt, sending an electric shiver through me that left me breathless. I leaned into his warm touch as I felt our bond begin to solidify, binding us in a way that was beyond words.
Then he lowered his mouth slowly to my lips and kissed me. Desire roared to life within me as my senses were overwhelmed by the gesture. The kiss was both gentle and fierce, filled with a hunger that resonated with mine. I melted into him, losing myself in the heat, in the intensity, in the raw electric current that held us.
Everything else faded away into oblivion and all that was left was the two of us, lost in each other. The strength of the mate bond reeled me in and for the first time in my entire life, I felt whole and complete.
~Adrian Blackthorn POV....The Pack’s ForestThe moon was high, its light spilling over the forest as I ran. The air was cool, carrying the smell of damp earth and flowers. My paws hit the ground in steady strides, but something felt off tonight. My chest was tight, like I was waiting for something to happen.Kieran, my wolf, growled inside me. He was restless, pacing in my mind. It made me uneasy. He wasn’t the type to get worked up without a reason. I tried to focus, breathing deeply to calm both of us, but the forest felt different. The usual peace wasn’t there. She’s here. The thought came out of nowhere, gripping me tight.Who? I asked, even though I already knew. Our mate. She’s close. Kieran’s voice was clear, full of longing. It was sharper than I’d felt in years.I stopped running, my fur catching the moonlight. My heart was racing. The word mate hit me like a shock, filling me with both excitement and fear. After losing Sienna, I promised myself I’d never take another mate.
~Jemima Steele POV The Pack’s Territory I didn’t sleep that night. Not out of fear—fear I knew well—but because everything had shifted. My wolf, Kiona, stirred inside me now, her voice threading through my mind with calm certainty. She wasn’t a stranger, though we’d just met. She felt like a piece of me I’d always been waiting for. Then there was Adrian. The mate bond hummed between us, a tether of warmth and weight I couldn’t ignore. His presence was a sanctuary I hadn’t asked for. Safe. But safety was its own kind of danger. Years of solitude had built walls around me, walls he walked past with unnerving ease. Dawn arrived slowly, golden light filtering through the forest’s canopy. I perched on a fallen log, watching the sky shift from ink to amber. The rogue’s attack replayed in my mind, a vivid reel of claws and instinct. I’d been in danger before, but for the first time, I’d fought back—and won. Kiona made me stronger. Adrian made me braver. But bravery couldn’t smooth
Adrian Blackthorn’s POV...The Pack’s Territory The forest stirred as dawn broke, streaking the sky with hints of gold and amber. Light filtered through the trees, chasing away the shadows, but unease lingered in the air. My wolf, Kieran, prowled restlessly in the back of my mind, his instincts sharpening after last night’s attack. Something about it didn’t sit right. Rogues didn’t target specific wolves like that—it wasn’t their way. I cast a glance at Jemima walking beside me. Her steps were light, yet she moved with a quiet resolve that betrayed her tension. Strands of auburn hair caught the sunlight, and for a fleeting moment, I found myself captivated. The mate bond tugged at me like a tether, strong and unrelenting, but I shoved the feeling aside. Letting her in wasn’t an option—not after everything I’d endured. When we reached the clearing, the low murmur of conversation among the pack stilled. Every gaze turned toward Jemima. The curiosity in their expressions was palpab
~Jemima Steele POV....The Pack’s ForestThe sun was high, but the forest didn’t feel warm. I walked along the trail, each step crunching softly on fallen leaves. The air felt heavy, as if the trees were keeping secrets. My wolf, Kiona, stayed quiet but watchful in the back of my mind. She’d been restless all morning, her unease stirring my own.Adrian had told me to patrol near the edge of the pack’s land. I knew he was just trying to keep me away from the others. He thought he was keeping me safe. But I’d had enough of being protected. I wasn’t the same scared girl who used to hide from everything.Stay sharp, Kiona said, her voice steady. Something isn’t right.I tightened my grip on the small dagger at my side. The forest felt too quiet, like something was waiting. I stopped suddenly, my breath catching. There was a rustling in the bushes ahead. It wasn’t loud, but it was enough to make me crouch low, my senses sharpening.Kiona growled softly in my mind. Then, a wolf stepped out
~Adrian Blackthorn POV....The Pack’s TerritoryThe sun had just come up, but I was already awake. Sleep wasn’t easy after everything that had happened. Jemima’s story about the man in the forest wouldn’t leave my mind. His words—they didn’t sound like just threats. They felt like something worse. I hated not knowing what was coming.Garrett was waiting for me near the clearing. He looked as tired as I felt. “No news,” he said. “The scouts didn’t find anything. Whoever this guy is, he knows how to stay hidden.”I nodded and clenched my jaw. “Tell them to keep looking. We can’t stop now.”Garrett paused and looked at me. “Do you think this is about Jemima?”I didn’t answer right away, but I already knew the truth. It was about her. Since she came here, everything had changed. First the rogue attack, and now this. Someone was targeting her, or they wanted her to be afraid. Either way, I wasn’t going to let it happen.“I’m going out myself,” I said. “I want to see if there’s anything we
~Jemima’s POVThe days felt endless, stretching out like a thread that might snap at any moment. Life in the pack house, once a comforting rhythm of routine and community, now felt suffocating. Fear clung to the walls, and the whispers that floated through the corridors carried unspoken accusations.Whenever I passed a group of pack members, conversations would falter, their eyes trailing me with a mixture of unease and suspicion. It was as though I had become a living reminder of the chaos that had unsettled our lives.I hated those stares. They didn’t just watch me—they weighed me down, filling me with doubt. A gnawing voice inside whispered the question I feared most: What if they’re right? What if this is my fault?Adrian stayed close, a silent shadow who seemed to think his presence alone could shield me from the growing tension. He wasn’t overbearing, nor did he try to force his concern on me, but his watchfulness felt like chains. I knew he meant well, but his constant vigilanc
~Adrian Blackthorn POV....The Pack’s TerritoryThe morning was cool, and the mist wrapped around the trees like a blanket. I walked through the forest toward the eastern border, where the scouts had reported fresh tracks. My wolf, Kieran, was tense. I could feel his frustration echoing in my chest. We need to act fast, Kieran growled. They’re testing us, trying to see how far they can go.I know, I replied, gripping the hilt of my dagger tightly. Whoever was out there wasn’t passing through. They had a purpose, and I wasn’t going to let them succeed. When I reached the border, Garrett was already there. He stood near a scout, pointing at faint tracks in the dirt.“How fresh are these?” I asked, crouching to take a closer look.“Not more than a few hours,” Garrett replied. “But they vanish ahead, like whoever left them disappeared.”I traced the outline of a print with my finger. It was too clean to belong to a rogue. Rogues didn’t bother hiding their tracks. Whoever this was knew how
Jemima Steele POV...The Pack's TerritoryAdrian and I walked through the trees, each lost in our thoughts. It had been days since the voice in the clearing. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was coming.“Do you ever feel like we’re being watched?” I asked.Adrian glanced at me. “All the time. That’s our life. Always being watched.”But this felt different. There was something heavy in the air. Even Kiona, my wolf, felt uneasy. The trees seemed alive today, creaking like they were talking. The sun shone, but it didn’t feel warm.We reached the clearing where the stones stood. They were old, silent, and strange. I stared at them. I couldn’t understand why they pulled me in. The glow at night, the hum—they didn’t feel right.Adrian stopped beside me. “You’re thinking about the voice again, aren’t you?”I nodded. “It felt too real. Like it was meant for me.”“We’ll find out what it was,” he said quietly.I wanted to believe him. But what if we were already too late? What if the
Adrian’s POVI stared at the kitchen counter, my mind spinning. The mark of the rival pack that was engraved into the wood seemed as if it was mocking me. How the hell did it get here? My hands balled into fists at my sides as I replayed the scene in the forest in my head, my eyes narrowing when I remembered that I saw a wolf retreating into the trees. The tail of the wolf, I realized with a sharp edge. The shape of it was familiar. One of them had escaped, and now this? The thought made my wolf angry. It was too deliberate, too calculated. Someone did this, and I was going to find out who did. Before I could think about it any further, my eyes drifted to Jemima coming down the stairs. She came and sat at the far end of the room, her shoulders were tense and her face looked distant, as if she was thinking about something. Something about her stillness pulled at my heart strings.“Jem,” I said softly, stepping toward her.Her head turned a little, but she didn’t meet my eyes.“You have
Jemima’s POV“That’s all he said but it doesn’t mean anything, so don’t stress it.”“He said that to you?” She asked excitedly, staring at me like she was about to blow up due to excitement.I didn’t even want to have this conversation with her because I wasn’t exactly excited about it. I heard what he said and I could say that it made me feel good in a sort of way but at the same time, I wasn’t looking forward to anything.“Common Jemima , aren’t you supposed to be excited? It’s obvious that he likes you and is all over you.” Lions said excitedly as she walked over to me.“So excited over what? Don’t even start right now Kiona.” I asked sternly. “Start what? I don’t know what you’re talking about, stop acting so tough Jemima because I know you like him even if you keep on acting like you don’t. I’m pretty sure he’s all over you and what he said just confirms it.” She said excitedly holding my hands but I pulled my hands from there and walked away. “Here we go, Kiona please, I’m n
Jemima’s POV I didn’t know what exactly to say to Adrian to make him believe me. I didn’t even want to face him because I knew he had a thousand questions for me and I didn’t know how to answer any of them.He should be happy I saved him and he just let me off the hook already. I knew I wouldn’t be able to avoid him forever and he was going to demand an explanation sooner or later but I didn’t know what to say, did I?It’s not like I understood my powers well enough to explain to anyone, but I knew I’d need to make him understand somehow. I felt tired and my body was aching all over as I was struggling to maintain my composure. I was feeling quite hot and tired so decided to have a quick shower.I planned to leave the room and answer whatever questions Adrian would have for me. I went into the shower and had a bath and came out right after changing my dress and I felt more comfortable.I took a deep sigh before opening the door and I walked out of the room. I planned to just receive
Adrian's POVMy eyes widened in surprise on seeing what just happened right before my naked eyes. Did jasmine just made Garrett make use of his legs again after all hope we're lost?It happened so fast that I couldn't predict it. Firstly, the wounds in her thighs closed up by itself and I waved it off and now Garrett sudden healing. How's that even possible? Something seems off, and I can't wait to figure it out.I grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer, my eyes searching for answers, but before I could say anything she wriggled her hand off and ran away., heading towards her room. I sighed and ran after her. I called her name repeatedly, but she didn't even turn to spare me a glance even for a minute. She finally got to her doorstep and she pushed her door opened and went inside, and I wanted to follow her in, but she slammed the door to my face and I groaned, stepping backward feeling like a complete loser.I yelled angrily and started hitting the wall with my knuckle until blood
Jemima's POVI looked around to be sure that we weren't longer in the woods. Adrian was staring at me with keen interest. I dropped my hand by my side and look away in embarrassment.“Are you sure you're okay?” He asked again, walking beside me. The sounds of his men trolling behind could be heard. “Jemima” he called, tapping on my shoulder and I coughed lightly.“I'm fine, trust me” I said, covering up my whole act with a smile.“You don't look good, though” he said and I chuckled dryly.I don't know how long we've been walking, but I knew it's up to an hour already. I scratched my head as my mind wandered off to Garrett. Is he okay?“I was worried earlier when you transformed. I thought you wouldn't make it” He said, his voice sounding low and calm. I sighed. Studying his expression alone, I knew he was worried. It was written all over his face."I'm sorry'' I bit my lower lips, pressing my hands together.“It's fine, Jemima. You're okay, that's what matters to me” he smiled at me w
Jemima’s POVThe world came back to me slowly at first. It was blurry images, muffled sounds, and a heavy, almost pain going through my whole body. Then, all at once, I felt something, as if someone was tugging my eyes open, or begging me to open my eyes. I couldn’t really tell. But my eyes shot open, my senses returning in sharp snippets it was almost too much to take in at once.I was moving. No, I was bouncing. My body rising and falling in an uneven motion, like I was being carried. What the hell? The morning light filtered in through the trees, casting a bright glow on everything. It took me a second to realize I wasn’t on the ground. I was suspended. My heart raced as I looked down and saw the broad shoulders under me. Adrian.I was on Adrian’s back.It wasn’t just that realization that shocked me, it was the fact that I was clothed, too. My cheeks heated up immediately on its own accord, but I pushed the embarrassment aside.“Adrian,” I said through the mind link, my voice shar
Adrian’s POVThe sun was rising already in the sky and I felt like I didn’t want the morning to come. I wanted everything to stay still till Jemima woke up. The sun was rising but my spirit wasn’t. Everything about me felt paralyzed. It was too bright for my liking. Jemima lay in my arms, her body lifeless and limp, her breathing shallow. At least she was still breathing. The rising run focused its light on her skin, and it shined like she wasn’t dying in my arms. For a brief moment there, she looked like a goddess, too perfect to be real.“Come on, Jemima,” I murmured, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. “You don’t get to quit on me now. You hear me? You’re tougher than this.”She didn’t stir, she didn’t even move or shake. My wolf growled restlessly in the back of my mind, he was angry and desperate. I forced myself to stay calm for her sake. The others had shifted back into their human forms, their expressions obvious with worry and tiredness. One of my men, Ronan, step
Adrian’s POVThe attack came from nowhere, as they normally happen. One moment I was catching my breath after another kill, the metallic taste of blood sharp on my tongue. The next, I was helping Jemima up, and the very next moment, a wolf pounced at me from the shadows, its claws bared and scraping across my side.I staggered but still stayed standing, baring my teeth in a snarl. It was big, bigger than most, but the anger in me gave me strength. I lunged forward, meeting it at once. We tumbled together into the forest, snapping and clawing each other, trying to find an opening for a kill.“Adrian!” Jemima’s voice echoed faintly through the mind link, but the wolf drove me more far away from her. I felt a hint of worry settle down in the pit of my stomach and it had nothing to do with the fight. The wolf went for my neck and he aimed his teeth for a kill but I twisted and turned, managing to grab its throat in my mouth. My thigh burned with a sudden, deep pain, so sharp it almost put
Jemima's POVThe night was so heavy around us, so intense and quiet, the kind of silence that presses down on your chest like a foreign presence. Adrian’s voice echoed in my mind through the pack's mind link.“Shift. Now.”I didn’t hesitate. The command surged through me, setting my veins on fire. One by one, the others responded, their human forms shifting into powerful wolves with thick fur and sharp, dark claws. The shift came over me like something I wasn’t prepared for, pulling me under and spitting me out in my wolf form. My senses sharpened instantly, every sound, every scent, every movement in the forest felt as if it was amplified in my headAnd then, there was nothing. No more thudding, no more rustling. Just silence. The kind that wasn’t natural. The kind that made the fur on the back of my neck stand up.“Stay alert,” Adrian warned through the link. His voice was calm, but I could sense the tension that came with it. “Something’s out there.”I bent down low, my claws digg
