Auretta’s POV
"Let's wait for your dad. His wolf is done fighting the enemy," I told my son after I breastfed him. The mating mark on my neck only throbbed three times. I never worried when Andrew fought the enemy because he wouldn’t let anyone win against him. “The sun is going down.” I stood on the terrace, hugging my son tighter as the cold air bit into my skin. My eyes stared at the orange sky in amazement, and I could see the moon, which was still too shy to show itself. The street lights turned on simultaneously to welcome the night. My son's eyes widened as the terrace light, turned on by the omega, shone on us. "You can't see far now, but don't worry, you'll be able to soon," I said to my son, who looked at me intensely as if he understood what I said. I kissed my son's cheek. I pouted, not getting his smile. “You have a cold face like your dad. You must learn to express your face and smile.” I advised my 10-day-old son. I smelled Andrew’s intoxicating scent, a broad smile spreading as I watched him walk towards us. He was so charming. “Why are you standing on the terrace?” Andrew asked, standing in front of us and looking straight at me. “Why do you ask that?” I pursed my lips. “You don’t like us waiting for you?” Andrew looked at me expressionlessly. “Of course I do.” He hugged me and kissed me briefly on the lips. I glared at him, humiliated before our son. “But you guys better wait for me on the couch.” “Alaric wants to see the sunset.” “You are the one who wants to see it.” Andrew glanced at me coldly. I grinned. “Are you satisfied with your sleep? Are you full?” Andrew pinched our son’s cheek. “He really is like you. Has no facial expression,” I said. Andrew smiled proudly. “Alaric is my son. He has to look like me.” He pinched our son’s cheek again. “But it makes me upset that he doesn’t respond to me.” Andrew pinched our son’s nose and then took his hand and dropped it. “Don’t make him cry. It’s not easy to make him stop crying.” I warned him. “I’ll be by his side as long as he cries,” Andrew said. He wanted to hold our son, but I shook my head; he looked at me hurt. “You just want Alaric to like you.” Andrew snorted and pinched Alaric’s cheek until it turned red. “You’ve taken my mate.” Andrew laughed out loud when he found Alaric’s eyes were glassy. I lightly hit his muscular arm. “Did we lose our warriors?” I asked. “Of course not.” Andrew shook his head. “Did our warriors kill the enemy warriors?” “No.” Andrew clicked his tongue and made an annoyed face. “This war was disappointing.” He put his hands on his hips. “I must ensure our warriors can kill the River Triangle Pack warriors next week.” Andrew grinned widely. A smile that made him look even more sinister. The sound of the gate being pushed open caught our attention. The red car slowly drove into the yard, stopping beside my white car. I smiled as Tabitha got out of the car and approached us. "It's great to see you guys again. We haven't seen each other for five months." Tabitha smiled brightly. “It’s good to see you again,” I said with a smile. “You changed your hair color and style.” “Oh, you noticed right away.” Tabitha touched her shoulder-length pink hair. “Does this hair color and style suit me?” she asked. “You look more beautiful and fresh,” I said honestly. Tabitha blushed. Then she looked at my son. “Alaric. I’m so glad we finally met. I’m your aunt.” My eyes glanced at Andrew, who said nothing. My pupils dilated, and my breath hitched. His pitch-black eyes were locked on his cousin. His gaze implied that he was stunned by Tabitha's change in appearance. I was very uneasy as the memories of that night came back to my mind. 'Did we make the right decision to let Tabitha meet your son?' The wolf's voice echoed in my head. I begged Quinn, my wolf, not to ask such questions since I wanted to trust Andrew. Moon Goddess showed me that our decisions were not wrong. I sat on the bed's edge after ensuring Alaric was sleeping soundly. I rubbed my face and found myself daydreaming. I thought I had forgotten what Andrew and Tabitha did five months ago. So, I welcomed Tabitha, who wanted to meet her nephew. I touched the mate mark on my neck; it felt like being stabbed with a pen, not too painful, but that didn't stop me from worrying about Andrew. "What happened to Andrew?" I looked at the time on my phone. "It's midnight." I left the room to find Andrew because the mate mark hadn't stopped throbbing. Then I saw Andrew's workspace was open, and no warrior was standing before the door. I pushed the door open without knocking. My scent had already told him. My eyes widened, and my heart raced quicker as if warning me when I saw Tabitha seated on the couch playing with her phone while Andrew sat in his chair. “Can’t you sleep?” Andrew asked, looking away from the documents in his hand to me. I looked at Andrew and Tabitha alternately. Suspicion gripped my chest tightly. “Why is Tabitha in your room?” "She couldn't sleep. She was thinking about her ex-girlfriend who died in the war," Andrew said. “I’m sorry to hear that,” I said. Tabitha shook her head and smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “You go to sleep. I’ll sleep after I finish my work,” Andrew said, assuring me he would sleep with me. “I’m going to bed too.” Tabitha stood up, glancing at Andrew. Andrew just nodded. “Good night, Luna.” Tabitha gave me a small smile as she passed me, standing in the doorway. I looked at Andrew, who seemed to be waiting for me to leave his workspace. The moonlight from the window behind him made him appear creepy. I reminded him to sleep, and he nodded before I went to my room. ‘Why didn’t you tell Andrew that your mate mark was throbbing?' my wolf asked. ‘Didn’t you get suspicious seeing them in the same room at night?’ My head was spinning from my wolf’s cries. ‘I will remind you that the mate mark will pulse when our mate is hurt and betrays our love!’ My wolf was so angry that she wanted to take over my body, but I was able to prevent her. I couldn’t accuse Andrew and Tabitha without proof. They didn’t look like they had just done something. Their appearance was neat, and they weren’t nervous, unlike when I caught them kissing. I stared at the ceiling blankly, lying without a blanket, letting the cold night air from the open window brush my skin. My wolf was sleeping, unconcerned about me, waiting for Andrew, who never entered the room and kept me up till the morning rose. When I didn't see Andrew in the dining room for breakfast, the sensation of unease in my chest intensified. I couldn't talk casually with Tabitha. Alaric made me smile that morning. He helped me forget about Andrew, who didn't tell me he met with Beta and the chief warrior to discuss the war at the warrior camp. "Let's sunbathe, Alaric." I sat on a chair by the pool, laying my son on my lap. My morning routine after having a child was to let my son get some sunlight. "Your drink, Luna." Warrior Johan put my orange juice on the table next to me. "Thank you, Warrior Johan," I said, smiling at him. I thanked Warrior Johan again, who promptly picked up Alaric's pacifier, which had fallen to the floor. I pinched my son's cheek as he loved to take his pacifier out of his mouth. I turned toward the door as my nose inhaled Andrew's scent. He walked with heavy steps, his face tense, his gaze full of anger, and his fists clenched tightly as if ready to punch someone. The broad smile on my lips disappeared when he stood in front of me with an angry expression and said something that stunned me. "So it's true that you betrayed me?" Andrew's index finger pointed at Warrior Johan with anger burning in his eyes. "You cheated on me with this warrior." His voice boomed like lightning that struck me. A sledgehammer hit my chest. I was so shocked that my voice caught in my throat. "What, what, what do you mean?"‘He’s crazy!’ My wolf growled.“Don’t pretend, Auretta.” Andrew stared at me even more sharply as if his gaze could bore a hole through my head.“I know what you’ve been doing with your warrior!” Andrew raised his voice as his chest heaved with emotion.“Why are you accusing me of betraying you?” I asked in confusion. I didn’t understand why he suddenly said such a ridiculous thing.“I have proof.” His voice was as cold as his gaze.“I swear to the Moon Goddess, I did not betray you.”“Don’t lie!” Andrew growled.Trembling, I put my hand on my chest, trying to gain his trust. “Ask my wolf. She wouldn’t lie.”I struggled to stand on my shaking legs as I hugged Alaric tightly. I swallowed hard several times.Andrew was terrifying. I summoned Beta Duncan via mind link to protect me from Andrew, who could go on a rampage anytime.“Your wolf could have covered up your lie.” Andrew hissed sharply.“I know I’m rarely home. My wolf is often busy training and attacking enemies.” I could see a
I pinched my hands and cheeks until they were red.I wasn't dreaming. What happened to me that morning was real. The pain was worse than when I first switched bodies with my wolf.My heart was as broken as when I saw my parents lying stiff in coffins and buried.I was so weak, as if I had no bones until I had to lean my body against the wall.I covered my mouth tightly with my hand to prevent my sobbing from waking Alaric, who was taking a nap.‘When you caught him kissing Tabitha, and you found out that they had a special relationship all this time, we forgave him and gave him a chance to prove to us that he would forget his love for Tabitha and love you, but what is he doing to us now?’My wolf emotions flared up, making my body hot and challenging to control.I did not want my wolf to take over my body and harm Andrew or Warrior Johan.I needed to maintain a good relationship with Andrew because we had a son. Andrew might have forbidden me from meeting my son simply because he was
The man covered my mouth with a handkerchief. I struggled as hard as I could in his arms. He took me to a forest on the right side of the river.I winced when he threw me to the ground.'Let's switch bodies!' My wolf shouted.Trembling, I stood up and clutched myself firmly. I took a hesitant step back, and a tree root nearly forced me to sit down on the ground. My breath caught; my heart was racing so fast I could hear it, and my eyeballs shook as I watched the man tilt his head and narrow his eyes, smiling behind his black mask. Calm down, Auretta. I told myself.No. I couldn't calm down! The man was a rogue assassin, and someone paid him to kill me.My breath hitched as if the air around me had stopped blowing when, in the flash of an eye, the man was standing behind me again, bringing his knife to my neck. My nose had gotten used to the scent of rogue assassins, but I couldn't shake my wariness of them.I never tire of reminding myself that they were people who earned money by killing. They have killed many pack leaders and business people. We had the same goal: to destroy Alpha Andrew, and then I would reclaim all that my ex-mate had taken. Our partnership benefited both of us.But I knew about them. My life was in their hands. They would never stop watching me until I died, ensuring that their secrets were safe with me.“Your movements are slow.”“You give your opponent a lot of openings to attack you.”“You’re too fast and in a hurry that you can’t focus on your opponent’s movements.”“You have to stab his chest properly.”“Rest. Give him vitamins to speed up his body’s regeneration.”I shivered with fear every time I saw those rogue assassins training.Watching them fight was much more terrifying than when I watched wolves fight. They were just training, but they were using real swo
Maya, the omega who was carrying Alaric when I arrived at the house, took me to Alaric's room.Nothing had changed or increased. Even the arrangement of the items in the room remained the same as the previous time I left the house, as I was the one who made my son's room."Don't change the layout of the things in this room," Maya said as I looked at the photo of Alaric as a newborn on the wall. I blinked my eyes to get rid of the tears that were ready to fall."I understand," I said to Maya after I was sure there was no sadness in my eyes."If you clean the dust off the photos, you have to put them back in their original positions," Maya remarked, pointing to the ones on the nightstand. "Alpha can detect it. He remembers the layout of every object in this room."“I will remember. I will not make a mistake,” I said confidently.Maya looked at me deeply and seemed hesitant to speak, but because she was a good woman, she told me even though her voice was shaking. “Don’t make Alpha angry.
Andrew’s POV “Fall has come,” I murmured, looking at the leaves scattered on the grass in the warrior camp’s backyard. I was standing on the terrace, leaning against a pillar. “We’ll clear the yard of leaves soon, Alpha,” an Omega said. She and her co-worker hurriedly put the dried leaves into a large black plastic bag, and a few minutes later, they were running after the leaves, blown away by the wind. “Poor them,” Duncan commented. He called the warriors who were taking a break from training. He told them to help the two omegas. The strong winds made the leaves fall again from the five trees. The two omegas and the five warriors were getting more confused about how to put all the leaves into the large black plastic bag. “I’m getting dizzy looking at them.” I left the terrace and walked towards the chief warrior’s room. The warriors we passed bowed to us. “I heard Alaric found a nanny who can make him stop crying and take a nap,” Duncan said as we were about to enter the room w
The sun had risen. I stood on the balcony to enjoy the warm sunlight. My gaze was fixed below, watching hundreds of warriors who were preparing to do morning exercises in the front yard of the warrior camp. With a quick movement, I jumped from the balcony and landed in a crouching position with one hand on the ground. Then I walked out of the house. The warrior camp was next to my house. A two-meter-high boundary wall surrounded the warrior camp, and all along the top of the wall were twenty-centimeter-high sharp iron bars with no gaps, preventing intruders from entering the place.I joined the hundreds of warriors to run around the pack. I ran at the very back.I routinely run in the morning. My body would hurt if I didn't do it.Usually, Duncan, Elijah, or Franky will join me in running. Auretta’s POVI stood next to the glass door leading to the pool with my gaze fixed on the chair.I remembered Alpha Andrew, who emotionally accused me of betraying him, but my heart was not broken; what I felt now was burning anger.I took a deep breath before taking a step forward.I carried Alaric, who had just drunk milk, to sit with me by the pool. I put him on my lap.Honestly, I didn’t expect Alpha Andrew to ask me to bring Alaric to this place. He remembered my habit of bringing Alaric to sunbathe. The fall wind was cool. I put a gray jacket on Alaric. “It seems that Alpha will bring thousands of his warrior troops to attack the enemy pack.”"I think so too. Alpha attacks the enemy every month except during the summer, but Alpha will not attack it if it is not very important or in an emergency."I listened to the two omegas who were talking about their Alpha. We were in the bathroom.I had just finished taking a shower and was wearing my nanny uniform.I had no idea what the Alpha rogue assassin did to make the nanny academy school willing to issue a certificate stating that I was their student who graduated last year and had worked for a year in a rich man's house in the Black Sea Pack. The Alpha rogue assassin created a fake identity, stating that I came from the River Cube Pack. I was an orphan and grew up in an orphanage. I then decided to go to school at the nanny academy located on the border of the River Pack Clan and the Mountain Pack Clan.I shuddered in horror if, one day, Alpha Andrew found out all the documents about me
