Sometimes help comes

from unexpected places.

Nadia Bolz-Weber.

Grenville knew he had less than an hour to get information out of the wolf. Forensics were on their way and soon the security services would lay their claim to him and he would never get another chance. He walked up to the wolf and kicked him hoping to wake him, the wolf didn’t move so Grenville went to his bag and grabbed a cattle prod. This fucker was going to tell him what he wanted to know and he was going to do it now. Grenville shocked him with the cattle prod and kicked him in the face as hard as he could.

“Wake up dog, time for a little chat.”

Hugh’s body jolted with the shock but his head barely moved when he was kicked in the face, he felt his eye swelling and without Knox he knew it would take a while to heal. He felt a rib crack from a kick and another shock quickly followed. Hugh surprised Grenville by grabbing the end of the prod and pulling it out of his hands. The woman had let him know that at least one wolf knew he was here and was trying to help, he had no idea what she had injected him with but he felt better already. He didn’t know any of the MacGregor Clan personally but he did know that they had been banished from the Reiver Pack, they had tried to double- cross the Reivers or something. He could feel his temperature rising and he felt himself sweating as whatever the woman had given him started to take effect. He tried to remain still as the wolfsbane was burning out of his system at a rapid pace and he felt Knox stir. He was going to have to get a grip on his beast when he came round or he was going to get shot before his full strength returned. Sarah couldn’t get out of the building quickly enough and was relieved to see Pete waiting for her as promised. Ca

Where the offense is,Let the great axe fall.William Shakespeare.Hugh used his wolf hearing to work out how close Camron and his men were to the room, he knew he was still weak and unable to shift but he could still fight. Choosing his moment carefully he went from looking like he was semi conscious on the floor to on his feet in less than a second. Before the soldier in front of him could even move, Hugh got a good grip on the chains around his wrists and yanked them out of the wall. Without breaking his movement he swung them round and knocked the gun out of the soldiers hands, shattering both the man’s arms with the heavy chains in the process. Pandemonium broke out as Hugh took down another as he was trying to roll out of his sleeping bag to grab his gun and then the door crashed open and four massive men ran in. It was a good thing too as Hugh has expended all the strength he had and all that Knox had sent him too. As he fell to his knees with the exertion, Hugh saw Camron jump

At least it explained why the human woman had been sent to get a sample of his blood. They obviously had something to compare it against, shit, but then she had helped him, it was all very confusing. Knox was prowling around Hugh’s mind, his agitation fuelled by Hugh’s own.Grenville was explaining to the Reiver’s how the only wolf who had any connection to the Addisons was Hugh Crozier in the form of a sales contract with Edinburgh City Council, and as everyone now knew, the Addisons had tried to buy the same building. While he droned on, Hugh looked over at Sarah wondering what evidence she had on him, her face was passive as she sat staring at Grenville who was still talking. She had one elbow on the table, her chin resting on her hand, her other hand was on the table on top of her report. She didn’t seem to be awar

It was the early hours of the morning and Sarah’s eyes felt gritty with tiredness. She scrolled down the screen to find the results from the original crime scene to compare against the new one when a name caught her eye.‘Harris.’Pete noticed her frowning at the screen.“What’s wrong?” he asked.“What was the name of the guy, the drug dealer or whatever he is who put a price on the Reiver’s head?” she asked, not taking her eyes off the screen.“Harris, Gordon Harris, why?”“There was a victim of the massacre called Paul Harris, his DNA profile is here, I tested it myself. Maybe they are related?” she looked at Pete questioningly.“Maybe,” he agreed with a nod, I’ll mention it to the police the next time I speak to them.” Sarah just nodded as she watched her screen waiting for the results t

Vengeance is in my heart, death in my hand.Blood and revenge are hammering in my head.William Shakespeare. For 306 years, Sentinel had done its job, gone above and beyond to keep the Packs in check and the human safe from the wolves. It wasn’t like the humans hadn’t tried to make peace with the Packs, during the two world wars for example, the wolves had been approached on more than one occasion and requested them to join the armed forces to fight for King and country. Some Packs and individual wolves chose to fight with the humans but most did not. Not one of the Reiver clans chose to join up as it was pointed out in a meeting of all the Clans, wolves were not welcome in human society until they needed warriors, they didn’t want to live with wolves but they expected the wolves to die for them. They had been persecuted, shunned and ignored for hundreds of years and as far as the Reivers were concerned, the wars were a human problem so let the humans fight and die for them. A vote wa

He found a small table squeezed into a corner and squashed himself into it. After breakfast he went to look for somewhere to stay, he wandered around for hours but to his frustration everywhere he found was full. Grenville, in his rush to get to Edinburgh hadn’t realised that the Fringe Festival was on and as a highly popular event, the city was crammed with performers from all over the world. The wolves just nodded in agreement and he excused himself and caught up with Sarah as she made her way back along the corridor. “Miss Cole, I just want to thank you for keeping a cool head in there. I’m always worried that one day, one of these Parleys is going to end up in a massacre.” Sarah stopped walking as she didn’t want Sillicoe seeing Pete. “Why? Twenty minutes later Hugh called them back, the Parley would be in four days time, and as Pete had suggested, they were going to use the conference room at Forensics Scotland. “Why did Alpha Armstrong have to give permission for us to cross his land, me I can understand, I’m human, but you’re a Reiver, so what’s his problem?” Pete sighed, he had never wanted to tell her about this, but he decided now was the time to tell her the truth.
