“Kian…”

Icy panic struck every movement of my body as I tried to free myself from Christian’s grip, who held me back.

It seemed as if I had teleported into a trance where it was just me and Kian in that throne room. Everything and everyone else had turned into a white blur. And the time seemed to have slowed down.

Kian kept going farther and farther away from me. Before I could chase him, I tripped and fell on the ground.

“Kian…”

I jerked away Christian’s hands and sprinted towards Kian. I was probably screaming his name or crying, perhaps sobbing. I couldn’t tell. At that moment, I wasn’t aware of myself as much as I yearned to be aware of him. To read his soul, to know that he was still there.

The chaos and the screams around me drowned in a ringing silence. It was a kind of silence where I failed to hear my own voice.

“Carys!” Christian seized my wrist and yanked me roughly against himself. He enclosed me from behind, his arms locking around me in an urgent attempt to stop
