Anna's pov
The lips of Lucas Anderson pressed passionately against mine and I responded like it was a reflex, matcing my lips with his, by the time we pulled away from each other it was to turn my flushed face towards Ray's flabbergasted one. “Anna–” his voice broke off with pain, he looked like he was on the verge of tears. Without offering an explanation, I took Warrior Lucas' hand and pulled him out of the hall while all eyes remained on us and Ray was glued to the spot with shock. By the time we stepped out, it was already pretty late in the night with the full moon high up in the sky. I looked at him momentarily, then my smile broadened as I carried my gaze down to my new mate. “So what is the way to your house?” For a man that had passionately kissed me a moment ago his face was unnervingly expressionless and distant. He took me to his car and we drove to his house, it was a little less humble than I expected, at least from the exterior. The interior spoke boldly of a minimalistic style, the sparse furniture and absence of basic decorations paired with only objects of pure practicality gave the mood that this house was hardly ever lived in or the owner just moved in. “You have a nice house,” I said as sincerely as I could as he closed the front door behind me, he mumbled something and nodded in response. This man. Wasn't he even curious why I had chosen him? He couldn't already know. The truth about his origins only came around after a long while, he should have no idea about who he truly was now. So why wasn't he trying to get to know me? Or curious why I had chosen him while everyone thought I would be all over Ray. He caught me staring at him and sighed. “Are you that eager?” He asked with no explanation afterwards. “Eager for what?” I asked, approaching him for clarification in case he decided to mumble it out. Without a word, he took my hand and led me upstairs. We kept walking till we reached a door which he shoved open and gently pulled me through. We were in his bedroom now. Suddenly it clicked, was he–? I saw him lifting him shirt as I stared in panic, I wanted to look away immediately but I caught sight of his rock hard abs and his slim waist, keeping my eyes glued there longer than necessary. By the time he tossed his shirt to the floor, I had managed to drag my eyes away from him. He stepped up to me, slight curiosity filling his eyes as he rubbed my hair in-between his fingers. “Are you the type that likes to play innocent?” There was a sarcastic jab in his voice that made me give him a sharp look. “What's that supposed to mean?” He looked like he wanted to roll his eyes but was holding back. “Can we just get it over with?” He said tiredly. I sighed, “I want to sleep, we can discuss the details of our arrangement tomorrow,” His eyes widened slightly, he stepped towards me. “What do you mean by tomorrow? You’ll still be here?” There was a hint of surprise in his voice. I nodded, “of course, we have to start making arrangements to meet my parents so that you can ask for their approval,” His eyes widened a little bit more, “I don't understand, didn't you just pick me for a one night fling?” My mouth fell open and at first, words failed to come out. But I finally found my voice after an awkward cough. “What?! What gave you that idea?” He looked away, saying nothing. Suddenly I remembered that he had been picked before in the past. Being chosen at a mating ceremony was merely an engagement. It could easily be broken off without official approval, I heard some people used the mating ceremony as an opportunity to grab a one night stand and this was the confirmation standing in front of me. “I'm sorry about your past experiences, but I didn't choose you because I had any illicit plans for you, I really want you to be my mate,” A sound as deep as the ocean filled my ears, rattling it. I looked up and realized he was laughing. I was taken aback then annoyed. “I'm being serious–” “Of course you are, what kind of She wolf born in a high rank family wouldn't want to marry down?” He said sarcastically. He wouldn't be talking all this nonsense about himself if he knew who he really was, but I couldn't tell him. At least not yet. “You are a well decorated warrior that has done a lot for this pack, not to mention that you're quite pleasing to the eyes too.” He eyed me suspiciously. “You could hardly differentiate between me and a piece of furniture before now. So, I'm supposed to believe you liked me enough to want to be my mate?” This man was really the cautious type, wasn't he? “I recently noticed you, that's all I can say …” I looked around. “Is there anything I can wear to bed?” He scoffed, “You're unbelievable.” He grabbed a pillow and left the bedroom, leaving me in his room. I sighed. I needed this man on my side if I wanted my revenge. I went to his wardrobe and picked out one of his many grey shirts. I slipped it on and I took his blanket and went downstairs where I found him trying and failing to fit into his couch. “You're welcome to come up to the bedroom when you're ready,” I said, throwing the blanket over him. As I was walking away and he grabbed my arm and pulled me so close I nearly fell on top of him. “Why are you doing this?” I smiled and pecked his cheek. “Goodnight, Lucas, we'll talk tomorrow morning.”Lucas pov“Let me adjust your tie a little bit,” I tilted my eyes downward as she worked on my tie, carefully adjusting it until she was satisfied. Then she turned to her parent’s front door. “They are going to love you, I'm sure,” It had already been a week, every morning I woke up to the smell of breakfast cooking, she'd waltz casually in front of me. Striking up conversation, she'd make me lunch before I could for myself and sent me off to my warrior duties with an endearing smile. When I came back she would be waiting for me, another hot meal at the table making me dizzy with confusion. Why was she doing all of these? Didn't she hear all the nasty rumors? She says she goes out yet she never mentions them. It must be harder on her than me. So why? Now I was here for her parents approval, I figured if I played along she would eventually get bored or I would manage to find the emit that would keep me away from that dreaded yearly mating ceremony. So no matter where I stoo
Anna's pov “Luna Anna, you are four weeks pregnant,” the suspicion I had for the past month was confirmed by the pack doctor in the consultation room. My heart started racing with bubbling joy as he handed me the results, I took it with sweaty palms and teary eyes. Me…pregnant? After 5 fruitless years of marriage? I thought it would never happen but now, the proof of it was in my grasp. “Thank you, doctor…my husband will be so happy when he hears this.” At that moment I could already imagine Ray's face lighting up with unrivaled happiness. He would rub my tummy with light affection knowing that within me was a life that will grow into our child and the heir of the Alpha’s seat was right in there. Unable to withhold my excitement anymore, I rushed to the pack house. But just outside our bedroom, I was met with a devastating revelation. “When are we going to tell that woman that I'm pregnant for you, Ray?” I would be a fool to deny that I didn't recognize my own best frie
Anna's pov They dragged me to the garden in the backyard like I was not any more than a sack of potatoes, Becky brought the shovel and Ray dug vigorously for what felt like an eternity. Then he said in a hoarse voice, “it's deep enough now, let's bury her before anyone would notice,” With the little energy I had left, I allowed tears roll down my blood stained face as he bent down to pick me. My mind recalled the special night after our bond had been cemented before the members of the pack in a beautiful ceremony, in that bedroom our feelings had expressed themselves through the passionate embrace of our bodies. He had picked me up just like he's doing now, sweeping me off my feet while he pressed a kiss on my cheek and I had said through heated breath; “I love you,” Where did that man go? Or maybe he was never there in the first place. He threw me into the hastingly dug grave like I was nothing but a trash bag, and filled it up with sand until my world was covered with da
Lucas pov I had expected tonight to be mildly entertaining at best, but what just happened far exceeded my expectations. The gamma's daughter was rejecting the Alpha’s son? Such a thing was unheard of. Amongst the crowd of people, I was standing far behind him and couldn't see his face but I could imagine how flabbergasted that cocky b*stard must be right now. The air around him darkened for a moment then he suddenly brightened up. “Oh, I see what you are doing, Anna…” I gripped my third glass of wine for the night. He was playing it off as a joke. Against my hopes it probably was, she had been reciprocating his relentless courtship while ignoring anyone else that approached her. What could possibly make her change her mind at the last minute? Yes, it's probably just a joke. I sighed taking a sip of my wine, my lips pursing contemplatively on the rim of the glass. Maybe I should be more focused on my own problems. Darn the Elders!
