Reene

"Is she going to be okay?" I heard a gruff voice ask as my eyes forced themselves open. The blinding lights, further enhanced by the hospital walls, made me shut them close almost immediately.

"She'll be... Oh! She's awake." Another voice said as the footsteps moved closer to me.

My vision finally got clear and I made to sit up. A sharp pain tore through the small of my back, upwards to my neck inducing a loud wince from me.

"Easy dear." A kind voice advised, as she patted my shoulders, tearing another shout of pain through my throat. That was also commendable considering the fact that my throat was parched and any liquid, warm or cold was welcome at that moment.

"I think the injuries would be healed in a week, considering your heightened genetics." The figure turned towards the other two I hadn't noticed the first time I opened my eyes.

I hissed as I studied the woman. She was dressed in a white coat, the insignia of doctors, accepted worldwide. Her hair was packed in a ponytail, and as she turned to speak to the other two in the ward, I spotted a beautiful tattoo of some foreign characters. Same tattoo that had always fascinated me.

She was our family doctor. The one who had and was still treating me, after my fall. The thought drew a loud groan, soft yet guttural from my throat.

"Reene, are you okay?" Another figure came up, and sat beside me, ignoring the vacant seat beside my bed.

"Mother," I croaked.

"What the hell were you thinking?!" She waved her hands exasperatedly.

I turned my face away, looking through the glass door at the individuals moving to and fro the floors of the hospital.

"You wouldn't speak, would you? Don't you owe us an apology? You jumped off a cliff young lady. Are you that desperate to render us childless?!" A manly voice yelled as he ran his hands frustratedly through his hair.

"Father, mother, can I get some rest?" I questioned, my voice raspy.

Both of them stared at themselves. I might have not noticed their nervous expressions before, but I did now. Beads of sweat covered their foreheads, my father more so. His hands were tucked in his black suit, his Alpha aura oozing from his being.

"Of course, you can get some rest, sweetheart. Your father and I have to go back to the pack house to sort out some things. You'll be good on your own, wouldn't you?" Although my mother was innocently trying to be considerate, that wasn't what I needed at that moment.

The rampaging thoughts running through my head didn't help matters. My lips parted to speak, and at the end, I ended up letting out few words,

"Where is Gabe?" I asked in a soft voice, which had thankfully cleared a bit not to sound like a caw.

My parents turned away simultaneously, avoiding my gaze. They literally looked everywhere. Everywhere, but my face.

Judging from their expressions, I knew the answer. My heart clenched painfully, as the last bit of my hope crashed. Hope that my mate will come back to me. That all that had happened in the past few hours was nothing but a nightmarish prank.

"Reene," my mother began.

"Please, don't... I will be fine on my own." I turned to the side, groaning as the pain on my injured side became more defined.

"Stop acting like a fucking child, Reene! Gabe chose his mate, aren't you supposed to be happy for him? Happy that your friend found his mate?" My father finally lost it, and snapped at me.

Without even turning, I knew my mother would try to soothe his anger by rubbing his shoulders.

My lips curved in a sneer. Of course. I had to be happy for my 'friend.' Hell, I was happy as it was. So happy that I wanted to cry. So fucking happy that I had jumped off a cliff after seeing the one I coveted as my mate enveloping my girlfriend in the most intimate embrace ever.

"Leave." I whispered, my voice barely audible. But I knew they heard. And that was because, the next minute, the door opened and they walked out.

I listened as their footsteps faded away on the tiled hospital floor. Listened until I heard nothing.

And then, the memories crashed in. I bit my lower lip hard as I tried forcing back my tears. No, I couldn't cry. I wouldn't.

Gabe... It was funny how the name invoked a foreign type of pain in my heart, that I would never have thought possible. The same name that had always made me happy.

I pressed a button at the side of my table, and waited as my bed slowly turned up, making me sit.

Leaning my back on the soft backrest, I finally let it out. The tears that I had been holding back ever since I woke up. Same tears that pushed me to the cliff close to the pack house as our pack members were focused on finding their mates. The happy shouts had drowned mine when I finally let myself fall down the cliff.

How the hell I had been rescued, and who rescued me, I didn't know. But then, whoever did had inadvertently become my worst enemy.

The door opened again, and I snapped annoyingly at my parents. Or not.

"I told you guys I wanted my-" The words stucked in my throat, as I stared wide-eyed at the intruder or intruders rather.

My nostrils flared, and I watched as the muscled bag of asshole, my best friend turned nemesis, walk in smugly hand-in-hand with his mate.

"What are you doing here, Gabe?" I snapped, ignoring the pang of hurt that enveloped my heart.

"Easy there. I never knew you were brave. Tsk, such wasted love." He remarked, as he helped his bitchy mate sit on the vacant seat beside my bed.

"That doesn't answer my question, Gabe." Making sure my emotions weren't noticeable in my voice, I calmly continued.

"Having fun with your mate, aren't you?" I added with a blank look on my face.

He smirked, and kissed the top of Sierra's hair, with an exaggerated show of affection.

"Of course, I am. But then, you can't relate, can you? Maybe if you had stayed back, who knew? Maybe you would have found your own mate." He played with his fingers as he threw an annoying smile at me.

Staring at his emerald eyes, same eyes that had made him irresistible to me in the past, I forced back my tears, my hands grabbing at the sheets tightly.

"Who knew? Maybe I would have. And maybe he have been less an asshole that you were." I spat venomously.

My words cracked his smile, and he narrowed his eyes at me.

"What the fuck did you just say?" He snapped.

"I believe your hearing isn't impaired, is it?" I threw back with a glare.

He didn't respond, but continued watching me with heaving chest.

His mate intervened at that moment. "We should go. Obviously she doesn't want us here." Sierra got up, and slid her arms into his.

"Sierra, you look quite beautiful." I remarked in a tone which we both knew wasn't sincere.

Her smile faltered and just like Gabe, she threw me an angry look.

They both walked out of my ward seconds later, Sierra's stilettoes making clicking sounds as they left.

And as the door shut close, I finally broke down in tears.

Reene I inhaled deeply, and leaned on the backrest. My hands, curled into fists were on my lap. I had just been discharged from the hospital, and my parents were driving me back home. "What would you like to eat, Reene? I told Cathy not to prepare anything yet, until we arrive." My mother turned towards me with a bright smile, as she asked. Closing my eyes, I didn't give her a response immediately. And when my lips finally parted to speak, she hurriedly interrupted. "Don't tell me you are having nothing.. You know how Cathy is." My mother added. Her words made me swallow the rest of my words. She was right. Cathy was the oldest cook at the Alpha's castle. She was one of the Omega of the Redwood pack, my pack. And she doted on me a lot. Of course, if I refused to eat, she would throw a fit. "Some spaghetti and soy sauce will do." I mumbled, and watched as my mother whipped out her cellphone. Probably to relay some orders to Cathy. As our car drew nearer to our pack, I felt my pal

Kaden My lips curved in amusement as I watched the shocked look on her face. She quickly wiped it off her face, so quick that it seemed like an illusion. "What do you want me for, Alpha Kaden?" She questioned with a blank look. I frowned at her change of expression. Instead of the admiring gleam in her eyes when she had stepped in earlier, a dull and resigned look was now evident in those blue eyes of hers. Although I had begun admiring and checking her out when she had run into the hall where I had been conversing with her father, I hadn't let my emotions reflect on my face. Not that anyone could see me though. I had a mask on my face after all. "Why? Are you questioning me right now?" I threw back smugly. Half expecting her to flinch just like her dad did at my words, she met my eyes with a bold and fierce look. She looked at me for few seconds though, before she dipped her gaze submissively. I almost smirked when I recalled the deserted and lone look on her face few days bac

Reene Nervousness enveloped my being like a thick, uncomfortable blanket, as I stared down at the entire pack from my window. I looked up at the sky. The moon was minutes from hanging fully on the sky. Bright stars were scattered across the darkened sky, creating a beautiful sight. Maybe the beauty would have been much appreciated by me, in a different situation from tonight's. I cleared my throat yet again, wiping my sweaty palm on my black dress. I didn't know why I was nervous though. I had always looked forward to this day. The day when I get to awaken my inner wolf. However, as the time drew nearer, I found myself blinking countless number of times, my heart thumping against my chest. 'Breathe, Reene. You can do this.' I exhaled sharply. I looked down, jealous at the way some of the pack mates all held their partners. A bonfire had been set up at the clearing where they all gathered. I craned my neck, trying to catch a glimpse of Gabe and his bitchy mate Sierra. When I fina

The pain could almost be likened to countless sharp needles pricking one's skin.I made to sit up on the bed, but then I quickly found out that my body was numb. It felt almost like lead...Looking around, I could see maids moving in and out of the foreign looking room.At the thought, I looked closely again. This was definitely not a room at Redwood. So, where was I? The room was a dark grey colored one. The blinds and shutters had been pulled down, giving the room a serenity I never had at my own pack.It was then I felt the soft texture of the bed I was lying on. Everything screamed riches and opulence. Where in goddess's name was I?"Hey," I croaked, my voice as parched as the sands on a desert.A uniformed maid turned and walked over to me with a bored look."Luna Amber, you are awake?" She drawled."Where is this place?" I coughed as I asked."Did you lose your memory too?" Her mouth

Reene "Are you out of your fucking mind?" Kathy growled, her beautiful face contorting into a funny mask. Goddess knew how much self control I had to muster, not to laugh. She took quick steps towards me, and raised her hands. "You wouldn't dare." Although my voice was calm, the chilliness in it, couldn't be masked. My words stilled her hands which was already making its way down towards my face. She paused and stared at me, nostrils flaring, and breathing harshly. "It seems your little fall has made you forget your status in this pack, sister." She snickered. I chuckled at the sheer irony of her words. To think that the one who killed the owner of this body was her very own sister. A sense of solidarity at the fact that our deaths were almost alike, enveloped me. I was killed by my family, and she was killed by hers. "Good thing your brain is still in good condition, dear younger sister." I remarked, placing emphasis on the 'sister,' and winking at her. "Whatever games you ar

Reene I snickered as she paled. "What? Cat got your tongue?" I taunted. She glowered at me, and stomped out of the dining hall. Her heels clicked on the staircase as she made her way upstairs. Kathy and Sierra back at my pack, were probably the only ones who would chose to wear heeled shoes, even at home. I turned towards Alpha Kaden, and basking in the interested look in his eyes, I took my place by his side. "Are you strong enough? I told you dinner will be brought to your room." He admonished gently. "I'm strong enough. My body doesn't feel numb anymore." I nodded at him, and looked around the dining hall. And what a huge difference it was, compared to my previous pack. Ornately decorated, it had candlelight styled chandeliers, throwing golden specks of soft light on the hall. 'Beautiful.' I breathed. Looking at the large spread of dishes on the table, I stifled a shriek. "Are we having a party?" I blinked. "If you want one." Alpha Kaden replied, making me look at him. I

Reene My body stilled, my palms already getting sweaty. Raising my head, my gaze landed on his. His intense eyes watched me, and I suddenly felt my body heat up. Clearing my throat, I whispered, "What do you mean?" Fortunately, my voice came out as normal as ever. Thank goddess. He shrugged. "Never mind. Just saying." He continued moving, and silently muttering a quick prayer to the Moon goddess, I hurried after him. We soon got to a large clearing, with tall trees at even places, giving one a sense of ambience. The perfect place to have a wolf run. If only I could. "Do you want to strip here, or?" He asked suddenly, making me flinch. "Pardon?" I arched a brow as I stared questioningly at him. "I asked if you would like to strip here, under my watch." He repeated with a chuckle. "You..." A blush crept up my cheeks, and I rushed to one of the trees. "It doesn't matter, you'll soon be naked after all." He called after me. "You wish!" I yelled back, stopping at a tree which had

ReeneFeeling the soft morning sunlight beams on my skin, I walked towards my mother's home. I had decided against driving a car, wanting to stretch my limbs a little.Alpha Kaden had been against it, insisting I wasn't strong enough to walk yet. Reminding him that the Alpha's castle wasn't far from where my mother lived had been enough to shut him up.Now, looking at the stares of other pack members on me, made me wonder if my decision had been right. Some peeped from their window. 'Snoops.'Looking around, I marveled at the beauty of the street. Krypton pack was a city itself. It was very beautiful compared to Redwood pack.Since I was going to visit my 'sweet' and 'considerate' mother, I had decided on a formal outfit. The black dress I wore, was a short one, barely crossing my knees. Paired with a black handbag, black sunglasses, and black stilettoes, I look every inch a sophisticated Luna.A car suddenly drove past in such great hurry, spraying dirt on my dress.

Epilogue. Reene The morning was bustling with excitement but there was no doubt that it had a touch of chaos to it. Everyone was trying to leave for the wedding and with Kaden getting on my nerves, I had no idea if we were going to be able to catch up with the wedding service. I needed to be there before the wedding so I could talk to her and offer the advice I could. I stopped for a while, listening for a footstep but i heard none. I was beginning to simmer. "Honey! We are going to be late! Come on." I yelled, shaking my head. Amber was soon running down the stairs. "Where's your brother?" I asked, stretching my hand across the stairs to stop her from running. "And please don't run down the stairs anymore, okay?" I said to her, giving her a gentle pat on the cheeks. She nodded before replying. "He's with daddy." I glanced down at the luggage. There were no guards in sight to help me with it so i just had to wait until Kaden was down. He had always complained ab

She was outside playing with Ichabod and something had bumped her tiny feet.Thankfully she was able to steady herself before she bolted off again in full tilt, her tiny legs carrying her with boundless energy. "Goddess." I muttered, knowing I had to go get her immediately before something worse happened. I quickly stood up from the window side where I was seated. "She's just like his father, they never rest. You should let her. " My mother said, smiling the moment she knew what was happening. "I'm not taking the chance mother." I said, hurrying towards the door before she said something else to stop me. I could hear her laughter as I walked through the passageway, en route to the outside. A tender smile crossed my face the moment I saw Ichabod running after her. They were chasing a butterfly and the moment she caught it, they admired it for a while, the laughter ceasing. She flashed a grin the moment

Chapter 93. Reene It finally arrived. The day I'd become Kaden's wife officially. My nerves tingled with anticipation and excitement as the stylists scurried around me, each performing the specific tasks they had been employed to carry out. I had been dreaming of this day, ever since he mated me, it would seal the relationship between Kaden and I forever. I could feel nimble fingers brushing my hair as my makeup was being applied. "Your hair is absolutely gorgeous." Jane, the blonde hairdresser complimented, but I knew it was a hyperbole. My hair was great, but absolutely gorgeous? No. "We are thinking of weaving in some braids, what do you think?" She asked, the rest of her words were carried by a loud bang that emanated from the door as another stylist walked into the room. "I'd love the braids, be fast about it though. We don't have all day." I said, admiring my hair hair the mirror. "And your makeup, I am thinking of a soft, smoky look." "Just do your thing Jan

Chapter 92. ReeneMy eyes fluttered open and the world gradually began to come into focus. I tried to sit up but the pain in the lower half of my stomach reminded me that it was best to stay still for now. My mind was still clogged with what happened before I fell asleep and as the memories started to rush in I couldn't help but be emotional. I remember everything from how Kaden had successfully rescued me from the hands of Mateo and how the contraction had begun and how I had passed out as soon as we got back to the park. I had no idea of how everything else happened but I guess we were here. My mind was still filled with lots of thoughts and I could not think straight at the moment. That was the moment something struck my mind. "Kaden? Is he in danger?" I asked myself, remembering how Mateo had ordered his men to have him shot. My thoughts were just a jumbled mess and I couldn't quite piece everything together. That was the moment I turned my head to my right and to

Chapter 91. KadenI was standing face-to-face with Mateo and I knew right there and then that the moment had come. The air was filled with anticipation and as I looked back at my men. I knew that they were going to do everything to make sure that my mate was safe. They were all carrying their weapons, ready to carry out my orders if I gave any. The fate of my mate was in the balance, and I knew that any little mistake could cause everything to crash down, so I was going to make sure that we took this gently, considering the kind of evil person that Mateo was. There was no doubt that he could do everything as long as he got what he wanted and in dealing with such kind of people you had to be very careful. We continued to stare at each other for a while and the gears continued to turn in my head while I thought about what I was going to do to him. I prayed for a brain wave, something that would have me attack him before he even knew what was going on. But I also suspected

Chapter 90. Kaden The only sound that could be heard in the room was the clashing of sword against sword as we prepared to embark on our journey to rescue Reene. We made sure to get everything ready and inspect if there was anything we were leaving behind thankfully there was nothing remaining. The morning had been a very restless one since the mysterious man had interrupted our breakfast with the spine-chilling news. At this moment I still remembered how the man had run into the room with a very worried look on his face. I instinctively knew that their punishment was going to be very bad. But I knew I had to endure the whole thing until I was rescued from this horrible cave. After making fun of me, the men began to walk out of the room once they began hearing footsteps. I knew it was Mateo but actually he did not come anywhere near the room.
