Raija’s pov
"Raija, you really should not leave today, Tonight is the full moon, you should stay with me here until tomorrow before returning to your small cottage.""I know, Mom, but I should have left a week ago," I replied while checking the glass bottles containing the potion. “Plus, my cat needs me. I can’t leave him alone much longer.”I looked up at the night sky through the window. The big silver moon hangs low in the black night sky, almost illuminating the whole night.Dark energy reaches its peak during the full moon night. As a young witch, I have a lot of work to do.“Fine, I can never change your mind. Just put on your cloak when you're out of the Black Storm pack’s territory.” Mom said while opening the door for me. “Werewolves are at their strongest during the full moon. Don’t take the risk of going outside during the full moon.""But us witches can get the strongest energy during a full moon too, right? I won’t have any issues.” I smiled, walked out, and quickly hugged Mom.“You are still young, Raija. When you become a supreme witch, you can go anywhere you want.”“Ugh, Mom you become a supreme witch when you were 23, I’m just 18 now.”“Yes, so what is an 18-year-old young witch supposed to do during the full moon?”“Stay at home. I know, Mom.”Us witches, are no strangers to werewolves. Werewolves and witches used to be at odds. Werewolves feared us because of our magic, but there were so many of them that we were outnumbered. But this is all from the last century, and now both of our populations are declining. We have to cooperate when facing the same problem. My mother Simona is a Supreme Witch, the most powerful of our kind. To get help with the prophecy, Alpha Daniel of the Black Storm pack allowed us to live in their territory. It butted up against another pack we weren't familiar with. The Supreme Witch can predict the next leader of the werewolves, that is, who is the Alpha of the Pack. Peek into the future is a very mysterious and dangerous ritual. Only the Supreme Witch can do it correctly. Only pure virgins can practice to become the Supreme Witch. My mother said that I would continue this work when I became the next Supreme Witch. In addition to it, werewolves will also ask us for the divination of their mate. Mate is a gift from the moon goddess to werewolves. It is said that werewolves can perceive their mates at close range after the age of 18, and they can gain powerful power after mating with mates. But finding a mate is not so easy, if they are thousands of miles away, relying on the nose of a werewolf will not work. The Alpha of the Black Storm pack, the strongest pack nearby, found his current luna with my mother's help.“Good. Be careful on the road. Though we have a deal with the Alpha of Black Storm, who knows if they will lose control?" Mom kissed me on the cheek.“Don't worry Mom, I can take care of myself. "Two hours later I parked my truck at my new home. I was about to walk out into the forest. Nothing happened. Which was great.I took a breath and turned to the mountain out of the Black Storm pack."Sorry Mom, but I can’t miss the first full moon after I turned 18," I said to myself. After laying my crystals out under the beams of the full moon, I began removing my simple dress for the ritual I was giddy to perform. The hill that was further up from my home was a perfect spot to perform my magic. The cool air of the night caused me to shiver slightly as gooseflesh spread down my arms and up my thighs. Closing my eyes and raising my arms toward the moon, I called on the ancestors as I began chanting the rejuvenation spell to cleanse myself of the human world I occupied. It was the first ritual that I had to finish to continue to become like my mother.Rotating myself as I chanted in the dark I didn't see the two glowing eyes watching me curiously from the tree line. My foot caught on the edge of a plant root and I stumbled down the slight incline of the hill I was upon.Laying on my back in the tall grass, I blinked my eyes at what I was seeing above me.The full moon lighted the large tan-colored wolf with bright amber eyes staring down at me. Its pink tongue was hanging out from its mouth as it gazed down at me.Feeling a bit of uncertainty over the wild creature, I chose to speak to it."Nice puppy, you're a handsome wolf," I murmured. The wolf started to growl low as I sat up. Getting sniffed was a bit unnerving as the large animal circled me.When it pounced on me and shifted into a rugged man. I gasped at his weight. With wide eyes, I saw he had a shaggy head of dirty blonde hair and a start of a beard and mustache. I squealed as I tried to push him off of me."You're a…a werewolf?!" I snapped. A deep chuckle came from the man as he nodded his head at me. He buried his nose into the groove of my neck and sniffed me more. His crazy hair tickled me and I giggled in irritation."Are you smelling me?" I asked in annoyance. "Do all werewolves smell others without their permission?""I will have you now," he said firmly. I furrowed my brow feeling something like a warm snake moving up against my bare thigh. Shaking my head, I pinched my fingers and sent a jolt of magic into his taut side. Snarling, he rolled off me cursing crudely."You are very brazen and are very nude, mister!" I gasped and quickly covered my eyes.“And you too," He said.I blushed and quickly searched for my dress but I couldn't find it!! I had no choice but to cross my legs and shroud my breasts with my arm while covering my eyes with my fingers."I am called Axel Rathbone and you are, miss?" He asked.Peeking between my fingertips, I replied, "Raija Hexum." I feel like he won’t hurt me.He nodded his head as his amber eyes continued to study me closely."You are a human," he said in disgust and I frowned."I am a human witch," I corrected him then added, "And you are an unkempt flea-ridden beast."The corner of his mouth lifted slightly in a grin."I take what I want, Miss Hexum," he growled as his eyes narrowed at me."Then you are an uncivilized beast as well," I added. Nodding his head he glanced toward the forest."It is not wise for you to be out here alone. These are the lands of the Shadow Moon pack now. I was once their Alpha until two twin brothers forced me out with their deception," he said in regret. Swallowing nervously I told him I was sorry for his loss."I will get my pack back once I return with my Luna and my renewed strength," he asserted."Good luck with that," I replied. I hurried up the hill in search of my dress again. Not finding it where I'd left it, I heard chuckling. Turning back towards the wolfman, I saw him holding my dress to his nose."I think I will keep this to indulge in your unique scent until I claim you, mate," he said firmly."Mate? No, give it back to me!" I didn’t finish my words and he turned to disappear into the trees. My eyes narrowed as his muscular butt vanished. Mom is right, I should have stayed with her!Fuming, I gathered my crystals and stormed back to my small cottage, naked! Opening my door, I closed it quickly and leaned my back against the wood. Looking down at my black cat Sawyer, I huffed."I'm going to plant wolfsbane around my entire property," I stated hoarsely then glanced back outside. It was dark but the moon lit up the yard a little.Shaking my head I mumbled determinedly," And yard lights as well."As I put my crystals back on my altar I thought it was unnatural the way the odd man had caused me so much unbalance. I was certain that it was he who had caused my ritual to falter. Gritting my teeth at the thought of that wild creature made my heart skip a beat."Claim me?" I snorted. I would not allow any man to claim me and certainly not a werewolf, I thought. I was pure and untouched and that was how my powers thrived. There was no way in hell that I would become mates with a dog. Slipping on my robe, I made myself some Chamomile tea and sipped it while petting Sawyer. My cat seemed standoffish and I figured it was due to Axel's scent covering my body."I will go wash his scent from my flesh, old friend," I sighed before heading to my shower. I didn't realize that Axel had followed me to my tiny home and was currently marking it with his urine. After my shower, I tilted my head after hearing a man's sigh of relief outside my open bathroom window. Squinting my eyes, I could see the silhouette of a man pissing all over my property. Gritting my teeth, I snuck out my back door grabbing the water hose.Going to the side of my house I turned on the water nozzle full blast. With a water sprayer in hand, I turned the corner and blasted the man in the back of his head. When he turned to face me he got a face full of hose water."Stop pissing all over my things!" I shouted, smelling the strong stench of urine wafting through the air."Stop drowning me, woman. It's for your protection," Axel growled sourly. Lowering the hose, I glared at the wet man. Shaking my head I told him he had to leave."My home is warded with magic and I am fine. Thanks for your strange concern." I mumbled softly."I will get you a towel," I added as I dropped the hose and scurried off. Shaking my head in frustration, I grabbed a towel and stopped at Axel standing in my doorway growling at my hissing cat.Tossing the towel at his head it smacked him in his face. I bit my lip to stop the laugh that almost burst forth. His amber eyes glared at me once he swiped the towel down his face."Thanks," he growled sourly."Are my ward's causing you irritation?" I asked him curiously as he dried his hair and scruff. Glancing over at me he curled his lip."The only nuisance here is that black ball of fur," he snarled and shoved Sawyer back with his foot."That is my familiar. I think it's time that you left, sir," I said sternly and lifted my stunned feline into my arms. Shaking his head at us both he grunted."The moon Goddess is one cruel bitch," he hissed as he turned."Lock your door, sweetheart," he said firmly over his broad shoulder and walked off down my stone path still clinging to my towel."At least he has a nice physic," I mumbled to my cat and deadbolted my door.Axel's povWalking away from the one who was destined to be my mate was very difficult. After all, Raija Hexum was a beautiful little female."She carries human blood," my wolf Cota growled bitterly. Rolling my eyes I grabbed the pile of clothes I'd stashed before I shifted. Tossing the towel and Raija's dress over my shoulder, I walked to my temporary cave home. It was degrading and a downgrade from the home I once occupied as Alpha. I would still be Alpha if I had my mate but there was no way I could defeat two others who challenged me during my younger years. Being a rogue now for several years has taught me much and I have grown much stronger, larger and wiser. When I stood before the opening of my cave home I glanced back at the direction I had traveled. Before releasing the dress I inhaled her scent, making sure it got embedded deeply in my sinus cavities. "She may be part human but her scent is divine. I will be rutting between her thighs in no time," I said sternly. Placin
Raija povThe smell of a wet dog filled the air of my home. I opened my eyes as I lay on my bed. The sun's rays were casting muted rainbow colors to illuminate my cream-colored walls as they shined through my hanging crystals."Here kitty, kitty," I called out, not seeing my cat lying down near my feet. Sitting up and glancing out my bedroom window I furrowed my brow. That annoying man from the previous night was standing outside with his bare back to me. Do all werewolves like to be naked? Exhaling deeply, I rose from my bed and grabbed my robe. Walking barefoot to my front door, I continued calling out for my cat. Seeing the living room blinds awkwardly bent, and my still packed boxes in the middle of the room, I hissed. Moving the boxes and then the blinds I could see the window screen was torn in. I cursed knowing my cat had to have escaped outside. It wasn't the first time since I had moved here. Gritting my teeth, I unbolted my door to see Axel wiping black fur from his fa
Raija's povSide-eyeing my passenger as I continued down the gravel road, I noticed that he had adjusted the seat so he was lying back. My eyes stared at his bare feet up his legs and lingered on his tan firm abs and dusky nipples. Blushing over my brazen wandering eyes I cleared my throat. He is dressed in only a pair of dirt-stained blue jeans!"You know no shirt, no shoes, no service is a rule at the grocery store?" Axel glanced over at me with a frown and huffed in annoyance."Could you stop by a clothing store and I can give you my sizes so you can purchase something for me?" He mumbled as he felt around the back pockets of his jeans. Cursing he looked irate."My wallet is in the cave I sleep in." I gaped at him in awe. What an entirely wild man!"I've got money and can get you a T-shirt and a pair of cheap shoes," I replied in exasperation causing him to smile at me. Turning my attention back to the road I berated myself for being overly accommodating. After driving in silen
Raija's pov"There aren't many individuals like me in this place or you for that matter," Axel commented as our groceries were being rung up. Side-eyeing him I smiled and tilted my head toward the clerk who was currently awaiting payment. Thankfully, she was ignoring his words and looked bored of her job. Nearing Axel after handing the cashier a few bills I mumbled quietly, "No, there isn't so take your own advice and don't mention it among the populace." His eyes narrowed as he nodded briskly. I collected my change while he grabbed the bags. Walking back to my truck, Axel elbowed my side. Giving him a berating glance he smiled as he raised the bags he carried."I will pay you back but where do you want these?"Pointing to the truck bed he obliged. Watching him I realized the wolfman was pretty handy. Getting situated on the driver's side I put my hand to my chest. My heart was a jackhammer in my chest. "Yours too eh?" He commented as he buckled himself. Raising my brow at him, I not
Raija's pov"Sure Axel but I am not eating the meat." My thoughts were on my mother and what Alpha Daniel had said so I missed the laughter in his eyes. The mention of a Rogue Wolf caused me to worry. Could Axel Rathbone be an insane rogue wolf? Glancing at my passenger I don't have the impression that he's nuts. Huffing in annoyance over my thoughts I drove faster to my cottage."Um, although we have long lifespans neither of us is immortal…maybe you should keep within the speed limit?!" Seeing the speedometer hovering well over eighty. I clenched my teeth and slowed down."Is this about your mom?" Axel asked. Nodding, I side-eyed him."Are you a crazy rogue wolf?" His eyes crinkled and his lip curled in a satirical way."Yes and no. I haven't been without a pack long enough, but…" Narrowing my eyes, I asked," But… But what?" Chuckling, Axel grinned slightly."If I don't claim my mate it's possible for me to become a raving lunatic." Does he honestly believe that I would forfeit
Axel's pov Watching Raija lean over and tear the cardboard over the firepit, I noticed her hair fall to the side and get pert bottom rise into the air. My eyes narrowed while my hands raised, wanting very badly to grasp her hips and thrust."You will frighten our mate if you act on your current thoughts. You need to cool it down before she has us banned from her home," Cota warned in my subconscious."Her scent is driving me crazy! I want her underneath me. Look at her tiny ass perked up like that, tempting me!" I replied through my gritted teeth. Cota growled a warning and Raija turned her head narrowing her eyes at me."What did you say, Mister?" Shaking my head I smiled at her bent over the firepit. I was sure she saw my eyes staring at her cute tush. My eyes went to hers and I grinned."I asked if you needed me to strike a flint. I have one in my pocket that I use in my cave to start my fires." Raija lifted her hand and laughed, flicking a bic."I have a lighter that works just
Raija's povWatching the arrogant man storm off after his outburst I gritted my teeth."I didn't mean to poison you," I mumbled under my breath to no one.Would there be after-effects?Hell if I knew but it would be wise to keep him around in case, I think.Concerned, I hurried down my hall to the bathroom and paused with my fist raised to knock. I placed my ear to the door to listen to the shower start and Axel sighed when he stepped under the hot spray. "There are towels in the cabinet!" He didn't respond so I left him to it. I collected the filthy clothes that were piled outside the bathroom door. Having already brought in his clothes from outside that he left near the firepit earlier I gathered them with the others. Huffing, I carried them all to my small basement and stuffed them into the wash. Setting the temperature after pouring in some of my handmade soap I grinned slightly. Pondering the possibility of burning his arrogant ass, I giggled. Clicking it on I heard the machine
Axel's pov "I'm going to go put your clothes in the dryer," Raija announced as she scurried off. My eyes followed after her."She announced that you are her protector!" Cota howled in my mind bringing a smile to my face. Catching movement in my peripherals, I watch Sawyer saunter through the living room and down the hall."Tom says he is going to bed…our mate's bed," My wolf growled. Narrowing my eyes at the feline, I huff and start collecting the tools I used to fix her door to put back in the toolbox."Raija considers him a security blanket so I must allow their special bond to continue." With my hands full I head downstairs and see Raija shaking out my damp jeans so they won't wrinkle in the dryer. After putting the tools away I watched as she scurried past me and rushed up the stairs. "What do you think is bothering her now?" I asked my wolf.Cota whined, "I don't know, I do not know how a woman's mind works." Rolling my eyes, I went back upstairs and to the kitchen to see her
Raija’s povAxel had been correct about the Worthington residents believing that the entire town had suffered a mass hysteria event. I had been hearing the rumors since the grand opening of my holistic store. Knowing the true cause of the missing residents I pretended to be as shocked as they all were. Calling my shop Natural Remedies I was giddy with excitement on its opening day and seeing old Pete waving at me from across the street. I was glad the older man had returned and hadn't been murdered.Heavily pregnant I was restocking the shelves days later on a fine spring morning and in jovial spirits. Atlas and Lucas had entered and were searching for some of my handmade protection rings.“More? Didn't you come just yesterday and grab ten? Aren't you supposed to be in school today at the pack house?”Looking sheepishly at me, my son nodded and said, “Yeah but we're selling them there and making money for the pack. The classroom got out early so I went to my practice with Atlas.” E
Raija’s povFeeling irritated after the conversation with my male relatives, I approached Axel with a fake smile.“What is going on with the odd fellows?”Shaking my head I told Axel it was just a dispute between the two and he nodded.“Well, sweetheart, we have a bit of a dilemma. Half of the pack wants to stay here while the other wants to go back. They miss having seasons,” he said with a sigh. Glancing over at the pack members busy doing chores on my dad's property I raised my brow.“I want to reopen the store I own. I liked doing it but then again I really dislike snow,” I muttered biting my lip.“Who will be the Alpha here?”Axel suggested Nick and Wyatt.“I know them both and they are decent. Are you saying that we take the members that wish to return and make it our very own pack?”Nodding my head Axel smiled and kissed me.Staring into my eyes he said, “ You should rename it so we all have a fresh start.”Grinning slightly I suggested that we be called the Lugh Light Pack and
Raija’s povAxel lifted me and twirled me around in the frigid night air smiling joyfully. My blanket was loosened and I squealed as the movement caused the coldness to touch my bare flesh.“Oops! I forgot that you're still in the buff,” he chuckled then planted a kiss on my lips.Kissing him back I smiled against his mouth and suggested that we head home. He placed me back into the vehicle and hurried to the driver's side. As he drove I thought about how my life had changed so drastically over the past several months and rubbed my eyes.“So grim reapers, elves, and vampires exist?”Side-eyeing me with a smirk, Axel nodded.“Yep, and a whole variety of other things as well. I'm not sure of Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster because I haven't seen them but I have the others,” he replied. “Simona kept me closeted so I was only ever aware of the werewolves. I didn't even know Sawyer was a werecat. It all makes me feel inadequate as a witch,” I muttered sourly.“But you have the knowledge
Raija’s povI glanced back to try and see who was aiming at me and saw the shadow of a man with a rifle. Before I moved another dark mass approached and backhanded the fellow causing the shot to fire up into the air.“Let's go, Rinn!”Rinn jumped down the cliff and was buried neck-deep in the snow which started to move underneath her.“Brilliant wolf, you started an avalanche,” I cursed.“Don't worry I am in complete control. Don't distract me,” she growled and leaped through the moving snow toward a Stony ledge. Diving under it she scanned the area and bound out to the cluster of fir trees unaffected by the raging white wave. Tucked against the trees Rinn was panting heavily. Hearing a howl coming from below her strength renewed. “Was that Cota?” Pffting me she said sarcastically, “Who else would it be silly.”“Don't be a bitch, Rinn!”Chortling, she raced down the cliff. We paused at a precarious drop-off that caused her to whine and pace along the edge.“I've told Cota that you
Raija’s povAxel rushed through the forest with Nick at his heels. “Is Stephanie still at our house?”Nodding his head Axel told me she was the one who told them we had been taken by the demon.Biting my lower lip I laid my cheek against his flannel shirt enjoying his warmth and safety.“Were you hurt by that freak?” He asked gazing down at me briefly.“I don't know what happened. I was unconscious,” I stammered, causing him to grunt. After a few more curious looks from him, he grew silent and continued traversing through the thick woods and up the incline. “I only ask because you were strapped down with leather straps, no pants with claw marks down your legs, and smelled strongly of sulfur,” he admitted. My eyes began to tear as I buried my face in his shirt.“I don't remember,” I murmured.“Is Simona still alive?” I questioned with a sniffle.“Yeah, she was helping that demon get to safety,” he responded bitterly. “When we get to the compound I'm taking you straight to the infir
Raija’s pov“Breakfast is hot and ready!” Sara announced before eyeing the three of us looking grim.“Did someone die?”Atticus smiled and approached her saying, “No my dear, just pack issues.”Looking up at Axel my heart hurt. “If anything happens to him or Lucas my heart would be devastated,” I told Rinn and she whimpered in response. “We met by accident and now look at how far we have come,” I said solemnly as I looked up at Axel smiling at me.“Glad I met you Raija, you're the best thing that has ever happened to me, even though you made me wear a skirt,” he chuckled and pulled me into his embrace. Running his fingers through my hair and tucking it behind my ears he gazed at me compassionately.“I can't believe that I only wanted you in order to get my pack back. Now I'm an Alpha yet my pack is elsewhere,” he sighed.Grinning slightly I said, “They're safe and will return once the threat is dealt with. How is Worthington? Are there any humans left or is it all abandoned now?”Sh
Raija’s povAfter our wolf mating, I fell asleep with Rinn cuddled up next to Cota. Our bond intensified when we joined and I felt so much contentment with him by my side that I shared some of my magic with him. Grinning slightly I figured that I would ask Atticus what Axel would be capable of and Sawyer to teach him once I discovered if he had indeed gained some of my life magic.Feeling my mate stretching I shifted into my human form and did the same.“Are you feeling alright? You're not injured? The floor isn't very comfortable,” he said, leaning over my face.Smiling up at him I pulled him closer and gave him a soft kiss.“I feel incredible, Axel and so does Rinn.”“I was concerned about you getting rug burns,” he teased.“Ha ha, Mister. I don't think wolves get rug burns,” I giggled as I stood and glanced out at the window to see the sun peeking out.“Did we sleep for an entire day?”Axel nodded, “Yep, it appears so.”“I want my dad to check on Lucas and make sure my grandfather
Raija’s povWe raced to the fence separating our pack lands. Axel had to shift and lift Stephanie over the fence and I scrambled underneath. Panting heavily I heard the howling getting closer and eyed my mate.“They won't come on this land. If they do, I'm battling them both,” he growled forcefully. “I will help,” Rinn asserted and I grinned slightly and told her I agreed with her. Shaking his head, Axel glanced down at us.“No Raija, you and Rinn will watch over Stephanie and keep her protected. I'm much stronger now that I have you,” he said firmly. Glancing back over at the Shadow Moon Pack lands I saw two pairs of red glowing eyes approaching within dark inky wolf shapes and gritted my teeth.“They aren't normal wolves any longer!”I started chanting as they got closer. I hoped that I could weaken whatever force was driving them to us. Nothing I said seemed to stop their progression.“Protect Stephanie,” Axel growled as he shifted into Cota. The two black wolves jumped the fen
Raija’s povShifting once again I was shocked to have the necklace dangling from Rinn’s neck like a collar. My grandfather must have used his magic to allow for it to remain during my transformations.Following Cota down a steep path through the hillside I was surprised that he went directly to the place where the dead were. Scanning the people I frowned seeing they were mostly lower witches and showed no sign of visible injuries or cause of their death. I just knew that Zelos fed from them, sucking the life force from them to regenerate himself. Sickened from the thought I looked around for Axel.“He is searching for any signs of Nick,” Rinn informed me. Traveling away from the horrid smell I spied a shiny object in the snow. Seeing it was a tourmaline ring I had Nick wear I searched for Axel and just told him I found it with a thought. “Where are you?” he responded.“Northeast by the trees. The ring is Nick's’ and must have fallen off when he shifted. Seeing a pile of discarded cl
