As I emerged from the room, the heavy scent of despair and pain clinging to my clothes, I saw Edric still waiting for me in the hallway. I tried to walk past him, hoping to avoid any confrontation, but he called out my name.

“Edna, please, wait.”

I sighed, reluctant but curious. I turned to face him, my expression hardening. “What do you want, Edric?”

His eyes, filled with a mix of regret and desperation, met mine. “I’m sorry, Edna. I’m truly sorry for everything I did to you. I was foolish, blind to what truly mattered.”

I remained silent, my gaze unwavering as I waited for him to continue.

He took a deep breath, his voice trembling slightly. “Do you know how I became Alpha?” he asked, his tone somber.

“No, I don’t. But I suppose you’re going to tell me,” I replied coldly.

Edric nodded. “Rushi and his Luna died suddenly. The council elected me as Alpha because I was the Beta and Rushi was the only child of his parents. It was a role I never wanted to take under such circ
