(FAYALITE)

Biting my lower lip, I watched Milan dance almost naked on that stage where the light was red. She had a great body, I must admit. Aside from her sex appeal, her charisma attracted a lot of our clients, no wonder she was the highest-paid dancer here in the club and the favorite of the customers.

“You wanted money, right?” Julian asked. He was the person who saved me from being imprisoned when I ate in a restaurant without paying for it. Even though he did not know me, he still gave me a decent place to stay and gave me food. But in exchange, I would have to follow the steps of Milan.

I nodded in response to his question. Two months had already passed and I failed to locate the human vessel of Arsen, my beloved betrothed, here in the human realm. And unlike in our land, I was no princess here so I had to work, earn money, and look for him.

I stared at myself. My abdomen was fully exposed as well as my legs and shoulder blades. Only my chest and private parts were covered by a pair of undergarments having the same gold color decorated with a few golden strips of chains. It was not suited for a princess like me but this was all I could do to survive in this realm.

“This is your debut night so you should make a good impression. Remember the things Milan had taught you and you will be all right.” Julian held both of my shoulders and it seemed like he could tell how stiff they were.

He brushed my auburn hair to the back of my ear and gave me a smile. “You are beautiful, Fayalite. You should make use of that to seduce those men and earn tons of money. Don’t worry, I already promised you, didn’t I? You won’t be sleeping with any of those men.”

That was the condition I asked Julian before finally agreeing on his offer to dance on that same stage where Milan was showing off her body. Showing too much skin in front of men I was not betrothed was already a big mistake for a red fox princess like me to do. I was willing to break that rule but sleeping with men was not something I never wanted to do. Doing that would be a total shame upon my clan and I would no longer have any courage to face Arsen if I were to break that rule.

Julian cupped my cheeks as he initiated to take a few deep breaths, giving me a signal to follow him. I followed suit, hoping that my nervousness would at least be manageable before I step on that stage.

After a few minutes, the lights went off. That was my cue. Julian pushed me by the back and led me backstage as he kept on whispering encouraging words in my ear.

“Go on that stage, flaunt your beauty, and wrench out money from those men.” Those were Julian’s last words before he gave me a push to step out from backstage.

Would they really give me money? I was not as beautiful and graceful as Milan so I could not help but doubt if this action was worth doing. My heart that was once calmed after that few deep breaths suddenly beat faster when the light was on me.

I could not see clearly what the audience’s reaction was as they were cloaked by the darkness. Still, I shut my eyes to pretend like I was the only person in that room. When the slow music played, I crossed my wrists above my head while I looked at the side. Slowing down every move, I went along with the rhythm of the music.

Even though the music filled the entire room, the prominent sound ringing in my ears was my heartbeat. It was beating like crazy as if I returned to Oliviland and would have to face the angry king and queen upon knowing what I was doing right at this moment.

I let my hands fall slow on both of my sides almost touching my skin as I curved my hip to the right, making the gold loose straps sway on the opposite side. I badly wanted to cry out and leave the stage but what glued me to this place was the hope that if I endure, I would be able to find Arsen in this huge city. Julian and Milan were the only people I could rely on at this time of my need.

When I opened my eyes, I immediately regretted it. All eyes were on me that it heightened my fear I was afraid I might freeze on the spot and disappoint Julian. I could not even tell if they were pleased with how I was performing but I kept chanting in my head that this was all for my beloved man. I was desperate.

Within 10 minutes, I danced like that of a swan trying to impress her mate with both the silence and red light covering the entire room. Just like what Milan instructed, I turned my back on the eyes of the men to show off my bareback and turned my head on the side with my eyes slightly closed yet my gaze settled at the second floor of the bar. From there, I felt a cold shiver run down my spine when I locked eyes with a man having such a piercing gaze. Within three seconds in that position, the lights went off and relief showered over me.

Going backstage, I was greeted by Milan. I jumped on her and gave her a tight hug with my head nudging at the crook of her bare neck. I felt her warm hand rub my back, giving me comfort.

“You did great, Fayalite. Look.”

She broke our embrace and let me take a peek at the audience’s where the men were putting tons of money on their table as if making bets.

“What does that supposed to mean, Milan?” I asked.

A small smile was drawn on her lips as she turned to me and slightly pinched my chin.

“The person with the highest bet shall have you as an escort.”

I looked at her with curious eyes.

“An escort? Julian never mentioned it to me that I shall be seeing off the highest bidder.”

I was even more confused when she chuckled at my statement. I was being serious though. Milan patted my shoulder before pinching my nose like I was some sort of kid.

“Since you do not want to sleep with any man, you should at least escort them. And by escorting them, I mean having a date with them and accompanying them wherever they wanted to go. An innocent little girl like you is just too cute.”

After saying that, she left me since she was being called by an important client. Julian, then, came up to me with a satisfied smile plastered across his face.

Cupping my cheeks, he smiled. “Oh, you gorgeous little one! You have won over the favor of one famous person I did not expect to even appear here in my bar. You should be proud of yourself. Tonight, you shall be pampered by him.”

Before I could even react or ask more about being an escort, he grabbed my hand and led me into the changing room. He took a few dresses and after a few minutes, he grabbed a light red dress with a low neckline. Judging from his hurried action and expression, I could tell he was a bit excited even though he had not discussed this matter with me before. Handing me the dress, he pushed me into one of the little rooms.

“Dress up and meet me in the first VIP room upstairs!”

I spaced out a bit after hearing the door slammed shut. An escort? Going out on dates with a stranger was a bit off but… but if I were to go around the city, I might bump into that human vessel. Taking a few deep breaths, I put on the dress even though it was already uncomfortable to show off my cleavage.

Going out of the changing room, Milan leaned away from the wall and called out my name with such a soft voice. Her dark eyes grew softer compared to her usual composure so I was a bit confused why she looked like that.

Holding both of my shoulders, she said, “That person who won the bet to have you as an escort is a dangerous person. You should always keep your guard up and if he ever forces you to do something, use this.”

She handed me a black object that just fits on my palm. It had a button on it but I had no idea what it was used for. Could it be some kind of weapon that turns into a sword once I press the button? When I switched it on, I flinched when it produced some kind of lightning… was it a flash of small lightning?

“It is a stun gun. Also, bring this bag with you to keep it. I also put in some pepper spray. If he ever plans to assault you, spray it into his eyes and run away. Do you get it?”

I replied with a tight hug, feeling elated that she was looking after me despite us knowing each other for only a while. Since she was not the type to be physically intimate, she broke the hug after a few seconds. She gave me one last warning before we parted ways.

Walking upstairs, I took a few deep breaths before stopping at the door of the first VIP room. Okay, whatever happens, I must endure but if he were to attack me, I already have some weapons against him. Clenching my hand into a fist, I knocked on the door to inform anyone in the room of my presence.

“Enter.” His voice was low and husky, making me gulp as it gave me the impression that it was a man probably in his 40s already. From what Milan stated, she despised getting involved with 40-year-old men as they were already too old for her, especially when they already have wrinkled skins. However, in my case as a red fox and an immortal, 40 years old was simply a child.

Shaking my head to keep my mind straight, I held the knob and opened the door. The moment I entered, I caught a whiff of a very faint yet familiar scent.

“Arsen?”

I did not want to immediately jump to conclusions but the faint scent lingering here in this room was of the same peppermint smell of Arsen. I could not be wrong… I hope. With my feet leading me towards the direction where the scent was coming from, I forgot the fact that I was actually wearing a pair of one-inch high heels which I was still not used to. The room was dim-lit with only one lamp on the corner as the source of light. All I could see on the chair beside it was the half silhouette of a man wearing formal attire. “Arsen, I have been looking…” The words coming out from my mouth ceased when a loud thud and a huff from me filled the room when I tripped on my own foot. I grunted in pain as I got back on my feet and fixed my dress as it almost displayed my entire chest. It was a good thing that it was a bit darker inside, making it almost impossible for this man to see what just happened.

I stared at him for a few moments, waiting for him to say that he was simply joking with the sudden proposal. I mean… there was no sane man in this world who would go to a bar and ask a total stranger to become his wife for a few years. That was just absurd! Plus, with the words he just said, he also probably meant that after that few years he just mentioned, he would be divorcing me later on. No such immortal would ever do that as we consider marriage as a sacred union. But then, he stood quiet for several minutes wearing his ever serious expression. There was no sign of jest in his dark grey eyes. “In that contract, it states that I shall pay you a hundred thousand dollars every month. Is that not enough for you to say yes?” I was so sure that if only it was possible, my brows could have already met in the middle of my forehead out of confusion. All I thought that escorts do was to see this guy off here in

I was at a loss for words with what he just said. It was not because Julian had indeed probably sold me to him but the fact that he actually had the audacity to place a cheap value on me. As an immortal, no amount of human money or wealth could ever buy me. The shamelessness of this man was astonishingly annoying. He may be a man whose good looks could turn the heads of women and whose voice could make them obey whatever he said, but it was not even enough for me to be happy with. Clutching at my purse, I snatched the pepper spray and threw it right at him before running to the streets. It was a good thing that it was already night time or else I might be running on hot ground… that would be torture. Taking a quick look behind me, I saw him just standing in front of the gate so I stuck out my tongue at him. I turned my attention back on the way and simply followed where the street was leading me because, in truth, I had no idea where I w

Upon returning to the mansion, the maids that once ran after me came to greet us. Mr. Ryso instructed them to take care of me as he headed towards the stairs. But before he could go upstairs, he laid his eyes on me. “You can sleep here for the night. Choose any room you want.” Unlike before, his voice was softer this time. It was something I truly appreciated since he seemed to be concerned about me despite being a stranger to him. After saying that, the maids led me to the bathroom that was as large as the bedroom Julian gave to me to sleep in. The pair of maids who accompanied me left some towels and clothes on top of the table just outside the bathing room. When they left, I stared at the tub that was as white as the clouds. And not only that, the water was warm and flower petals were even floating. It was a good bath for an immortal like me. As I took off the dress that was close to being ruined, I was reminded

Forsterite’s POV How could a supposedly peaceful night turn into something like this? Just a few hours ago, Oliviland was as beautiful and peaceful as the starry night sky but how could all of this happen in just one night? If this was just a horrible nightmare, I wished to wake up from it… I could not help but cry helplessly while watching Oliviland-my very home-getting devoured by the merciless blazing fire that seemed to be reaching to the sky. I could not even let out a scream to vent out my anger and plea as I witnessed how the silver foxes threw the bodies of my family into the fire, treating them like pieces of wood to light up the darkness. Kneeling on both knees, I lowered my head, unable to watch the horror any longer. The cries of plea and pain of our people that filled the air just a few hours ago had gone quiet. It sent shivers down my spine as my hair stood at its ends, thinking that the silence only meant

My body still felt heavy and sore but I managed to open my eyes a little as I shifted to my side. Wait… what kind of scent was this? Taking a few sniffs of the blanket and pillow, it had some floral and pleasant scent but I could not pinpoint which flower had this kind of smell. But what really caught my attention was the scent of sandalwood. It was not only coming from the pillow and blanket but the room was filled with it. I flung my eyes open when the memory of entering the portal flashed in my mind. As far as I remember, I lost consciousness when I entered the portal. Sitting upright in a matter of seconds, I found myself on a bed with blankets and sheets of dark color. There were things around that I found unfamiliar as they never existed back in Oliviland. Plus, there was a shelf on the side filled with books but I could not read them because they were written in different writing. Looking at my left side, there was a huge transpar

I thought that the womanizer was the only one who would face the death he deserved, but I was so unfortunate to receive the uncanny smirk of the woman. I really should have left this place instead of interrupting these two in their almost lovemaking session. Pointing her gun at me, she demanded, “Get out of the car, you slut.” I did not want to reveal to these lowly humans that I was an immortal so I raised my hands just like what the womanizer did. But it was more than infuriating to let this woman say and do anything as she pleased. I must endure even though it was something I did not want to do in front of this shameless creature. Still, Lansford and I both left the car and walked towards the woman. “Kneel,” she said, her gun still pointed at us. I could actually tackle her down and shove that gun right into her mouth but there were other men surrounding us. I

When we got out of the car, a few people wearing white clothes and robes came running in our direction. They took Lansford on a bed with wheels and rushed him into this huge building that seemed to be made of pure glass. I had seen this in the magical waters but I did not know what the humans called it. “Young miss, we should disinfect your wound,” one of the ladies said. Just then, it came to me that I had a cut on my cheek after that crazy woman slapped me. Without saying anything, I followed the lead of the lady in white while one of Lansford’s men tailed me behind. It was not like I was going to run away when I was not even familiar with this place. Plus, I could not simply abandon that womanizer now that he had my bead. For the next full moon, I must cultivate the remaining power I have to regain what I had lost. “Where are they taking Lansford?” I asked the woman, my gaze following the group of people pushing

I clipped a few locks of my hair behind my ear as I looked down the sands. It was just a bit embarrassing to be suddenly addressed like that when I was used to being just called Fayalite. Though, I wonder what he was here for. O mean, he was the second-in-command of Arsen so he usually stays beside him. Did he probably come here to search for him? “You seem to be enjoying yourself here in the human realm, princess,” he said as he walked in my direction. Now that he was closer, I came to notice that he really blended well among the humans. Unlike the first time I came here, I looked so different and ignorant. “Not really. I...” I paused. Would it be insensitive of me to speak about Arsen? I mean, I was the reason why his soul was sent here and his body was in a coma. “Why are you here?” He looked at me in the eyes with a sharp look and a smirk drawn on his lips. It

According to what Luis said, our reserved seats were first class so we would be able to sleep more comfortably. That was good news actually because just entering in the craft made me feel like I want to throw up or something. I did not like the feeling at all. Just, as usual, Alexander and Freya were together on the opposite side of my seat with Luis. I just pretended that I did not mind them at all because I already promised Alexander that I won't be disturbing them no matter what. After putting away our baggage, I immediately laid down on my seat and shut my eyes. Luis said that we will be flying at any minute but my stomach was already flipping on its own. "I should get to sleep before we fly. I might vomit anytime," I mumbled. I heard a giggle coming from Luis as he sat across from me. "Is it your first time to ride on an airplane?" I simply nodded in reply since it felt like if I o

I had no idea what Freya wanted to talk about but turning her down would seem like I was being petty just because Alexander favored her over me. I shut the door close and walked in her direction. Sitting across from her, I stood quiet and waited for her to initiate the conversation. I can’t believe I was actually in a situation like this… I thought it only happens in those movies made by humans but oh well, I hope this won’t turn into a disaster. “Alexander told me…” she said, “He said that you were just pretending to be sick to get his attention.” What? I cannot believe he actually told her that! I was not pretending to be sick! I wanted to yell at her and claim my innocence but I could not do it because if she asks me why I fainted twice, I had nothing to say. Even I became so weirded out with my own body, and not to mention, I just lost my sense of taste. “I know,” Freya added, her voice still calm and collected

(FAYALITE) Seeing the shocked and confused expression of Alexander made me step backward. Why did it have to be him when it could have been Arsen? He was already mad at me for several reasons and if he ever finds out about who I really was, he might throw me out to the streets. Since he seemed to be frozen where he was, I decided to grab that opportunity to run away but upon turning away from him, I heard another man’s voice. “Alexander, is it okay to bring your mistress home when you already found yourself a wife?” Hearing that question just made me hesitate to jump out of the window. Thus, I ended up hiding behind the door where I could hear their conversation. Plus, I could smell a rather strong scent of sandalwood coming from the person who had just come in. Compared to other human beings, his scent was stronger. “Lansford, what did you come here for?” I heard Alexander a

For a minute, Lansford and I were in a staring contest. There was really nothing he could do to my wound since I already washed it clean and it was not that deep to cause any kind of infection. Moreover, he was a mere human being so he had no healing abilities to close the wound. He was probably doing this to show off and make me think that he was such a gentleman. Guh, after how he acted for the past few days, a day would never come for me to even consider him as a gentleman.“One…” He started to count which only made me roll my eyes before pushing him away from me.Not saying a word, I got up and sat on the edge of the bed with my back facing him. I gathered my long hair to the side just so he could get a clear view of the scratch.“It’s not that serious of a wound so there is nothing to worry about. Lansford shrugged his shoulders and replied, “It is a well-known tale here.”What? Really? But how did humans even know of the Black Alpha’s existence? Did he probably announce his presence? Or was he captured when the humans came to know of his real identity? Err… just by thinking of that gives me the shivers. He might be being tortured somewhere or even died.I wanted to ask more about the tale he was referring to because it could not be the one I was talking about but every time I bring out that topic, Lansford would dismiss it and insist that I should just focus on reading and memorizing. He acted that way until we were at the airport and just like always, I was stunned at the huge machine that humans use to fly.“Hey, Lansford,” I called out as I narrowed my sight on the so-called airplane. “The wings of that plane seemed to be too hard. Are you sure that if we ride on it,

What happened the next day after Lansford found out about my true identity as a red fox, I did not really like what greeted me so early in the morning. I had a good night’s sleep indeed but upon leaving my room so I can head to the kitchen and find something I can cook, Lansford was in the living room.“Morning. What’s with the piles of papers around? Are you studying for an exam?” I asked. He did not say anything. He simply motioned me to sit beside him while holding a few documents I could not understand. Occupying the seat near him, he showed me a book with colored illustrations. If I was not mistaken, it was possibly a book for children.“Before we depart tomorrow, I will be teaching you how to read so you can survive on your own when you make future deals in my stead,” he said.I looked at him with a raised eyebrow. “Are you expecting me to learn new wri

“Shut your eyes right now, Lansford, before I will snatch them out from your eye sockets,” I threatened.“They’re closed,” he replied as he slowly put me down.Since he had already seen my true form, I let out my nine tails while maintaining my human form so I could at least use them to cover my nakedness. Taking a few steps away from him, I saw that he indeed shut them close but to make sure of it, I clenched my fist and attempted to punch him. I stopped midway when my hand was already a few millimeters away from his face. Seeing that he did not flinch even a tiny bit, I was convinced that he was keeping his word. I turned my back on him and grabbed my clothes from the ground before I tiptoed back to the room to get dressed. This was supposed to be one of the ordinary days that I should be searching for my sister but I did not know what went wrong or what I did wrong just to deserve this. I really could not guess if he was asking because he did not know or he was simply testing me if I was telling him the truth or not. This was one of the things that somehow made me fear him… he was just one of the people I could not predict.Clearing my throat, I replied, “What do you mean by kingdom? I am not a princess or anything so coming from a kingdom is definitely not possible.
