Chapter 2

Alpha Kai

    Arriving at the office after a few minutes of driving, I walk into my office where a heap of documents is already waiting for me on my desk. It's another day to stress myself.

    Being the alpha of a pack is not an easy task. Now, I know the burden my father had to carry on himself before he passed away.

    The sound of the office telephone ringing pulls my attention from the screen of the computer, and I reach out for it.

    "Alpha, some people are here to see you. Should I send them in?" My secretary's feminine voice sounds through the phone.

    "Send them back," I reply to her coldly, and without waiting for another word from her, I drop the telephone. I don't care who those people are, I'm not in the mood to see anyone now.

    Staring at the tons of messages from my email, I sigh briefly. Where the hell am I supposed to start? Well, since my daughter has been sick for a couple of weeks, I had to stay back at home to take care of her for some time before resuming work, and this is the result of it. You can imagine trying to fit in the role of an alpha, and also a father of two, yeah? Yes, you heard that right. I'm a father of two. I had my first child at age seventeen, and the second at age twenty. 

    My two kids are the best gifts life has offered me so far, and I'm the happiest and most grateful that they are in my life to add light to it. I know you will ask about their mother, but that? It's kind of complicated. 

    My ex-wife whom I loved with everything I held dear, her name is Rhea. She was my mate, but I guess the moon goddess gave me the wrong woman. She betrayed me and left me with nothing, but pain. I regret loving her, but do you know what hurts the most? The fact that I still love her even after that horrible thing she did to me that keep haunting me even after many years. I used to be so loyal to her, I gave her all the love and attention any woman would want from her man, but I just guess she was not the one for me, and I don't think there's ever going to be anyone for me, because I will make sure of that.

    I'm single for now, and I may not get committed in the future, because for what? I mean, I already have two beautiful and handsome kids, so what the hell do I want again?

    The sound of my ringing phone pulls my attention, and I groan angrily as I reach out for it. It's my beta, Maximus. He doesn't always know the time to call.

    "What's with the early morning disturb now, Max?" I groan as soon as I answer the call. Aside from my kids, Max is the only person I'm close with on earth. What were you expecting from two best friends that have been together all their lives, staying by each other's sides in hard and soft times?

    "Don't be an ungrateful fellow, Kai. Are you free tonight? We can go to the pub together, or what do you think?" His voice sounds from the other end, and I recline on the chair. That is a good idea, and I wouldn't refuse it for anything in the world. It has been a while since I last had fun, and this is a perfect opportunity.

    Just a brief introduction about myself, I'm alpha Kai Xander, twenty-five years old ruthless, and heartless alpha of the Blue Crest pack. Yes, you heard that right. I'm ruthless, and people know it. I am the most powerful and influential alpha in the werewolf realm, and because of this, I have too many enemies wanting to take me down. It's not like they can do it anyway, so they can all go to hell for all I care. I love sex, so very much. I am a flirty single dad. I fuck any woman that comes my way, but never get serious with them, because for what? Fuck love! To me, all women are the same, and they will eventually hurt me and leave me broken, just like Rhea did to me years ago. 

    "Sure, I will be glad to go with you, my friend," I reply to him as I smirk.

    "I know you won't miss it for anything. I'll pick you up later from your office. Don't keep me waiting," He says before he ends the call, and I drop my phone on the desk before turning to resume the work he interrupted.

    "Alpha, I just got a call that we're having a meeting at the villa in three hours," Max's voice suddenly echo in my head, getting me distracted.

    "Tell them that I'm busy. I won't be available," I mind-link him.

    "But..." I cut the link before he can finish his statement. I already have a lot of things going on in my mind, and letting them disturb me is the last thing I want. Of course, I know what they are going to talk about later. Whenever those chiefs call a meeting, it's always about me getting a mate again. For goodness sake, I don't want one! Can't they get it?

    After spending forever in the office, I finally drive back to the villa, and as soon as I arrive, I head straight to my children's room.

    "Daddy..." Nathan, my five years old son rushes over to hug me as soon as I walk into the room. 

    "Hey, my boy. Where's Ruby?" I ask about his sister as I him in my arms, walking over to the bed.

    "Ariel took her on a tour," He replies to me, and I nod my head. It has just been three days since Ariel started staying here, and I'm glad that after changing maids repeatedly like clothes every three days, my kids are finally getting along with this one. Well, that is how my kids are. They couldn't keep up with all the maids I hired to take care of them, so I always ended up changing maids for them every three days.

    "Alright. How was school today?" I ask him as I finally take a seat on the bed, sitting him on my lap.

    "School was fine. Daddy, I want to learn martial art," He pouts his lips, and I roll my eyes.

    "Why?" I ask him, and he shrugs.

    "Uncle Max said that I'm a man, and a man should learn to protect himself. He said that the only way to do that, is to be able to handle a sword and be brave," He says in his tiny voice, and I almost burst into laughter. Let's not talk about my annoying friend trying to feed my handsome son with that gibberish, but fuck! This boy is just too smart.

    "Don't listen to Max. He's just playing around with you. You will learn it, but not now," I pat his back, and he slowly nods his head with a trail of sadness on his face. Max is going to get it from me, for messing with my son.

    "Good boy. Why don't we go for a walk?" I say to him.

    "No. I want to nap," He replies to me, and I allow him. After putting him to sleep, I finally, leave the room and head to the garden.

    Standing in the garden and staring at the beautiful flowers a few minutes later, I sigh briefly.

    "Daddy," Ruby calls me from behind, and I tilt my head to see her with Ariel. I haven't talked about how gorgeous this young lady is, and how I have been forcing myself not to think about her lately. She is the definition of perfection with her curvy shape, long thick black hair that she always loves packing in a ponytail, a pair of ocean blue eyes that keeps me wanting to stare at her, and the sweet voice that sounds more like music to my ears. I don't know much about her, but she's extremely gorgeous and enchanting.

    "Hey, darling. Come here, baby," I extend my hands to her, and she rushes over to hug me. 

    "Greetings, alpha," Ariel bows slightly, tucking some strands of her hair behind her ear. Oh, her hair is falling over her shoulders today, and not the usual ponytail style. I think this fits her better if you ask me.

    "Yeah," I reply to her casually, turning my gaze away from her charming and addictive eyes. I don't want to end up drooling at her. I never thought that I would find someone so attractive, but I guess fate changed.

    "How was your day?" I ask Ruby, ruffling her hair playfully. I may be a ruthless alpha that people fear so much, but you aren't expecting me to be so cold to my children, right? They are the reason I want to be more powerful because I want to protect them.

    "It was fine. Daddy, are you hiring Ariel to be our maid? She's nice," She whispers to me and pouts. It's literally the first time my daughter would say such a thing to me, so, why not? As far as it'll make her happy, then I'll do it.

    "Do you want her?" I ask, and she nods her head.

    "Consider it done," I reply to her before I stand up and face Ariel, trying so hard to avoid her eyes.

    "Henceforth, you'll be working here in the villa, as my kids' maid," I say to her, and she slowly nods her head. Not that she has a choice even though she doesn't want to do it, anyway.

    "Yes, alpha," She bows her head.

    "You must not mess around with my kids, and they must not be sad for any reason if you don't want to get on my bad side..." I pause and take some step toward her, and I bet she gulp down nervously.

    "If my kids complain to me about you treating them badly, then be ready to visit the underworld," I say to her, and the fear in her eyes is priceless. Yes, I can be a monster when it comes to my kids. Nobody messes with my kids and live to tell the story, so she better not try something stupid.

    "Yes, Alpha," Her voice quivers slightly as she fidgets. I shouldn't have scared her, but I can't be soft, not when it has to do with my kids...
