Ellen and I had been in such deep conversation neither of us noticed another person approaching us until she spoke.

“Wow, Ellen. I didn’t think you would still insist on pitying this loser now you shifted.”

I looked up not bothering to mask my hatred at Sam, towering over me. She had a smirk playing on her thin brightly colored lips, her eyes amused.

Ellen rolled her eyes before scoffing “Sam, we are never going to be friends you know that right?”

Sam looked at Ellen shocked as if she had believed they were friends. I suppose I could understand why Sam insisted on trying to be her friend, they were both blondes, both considered the most attractive of our class and both had a bit of a bitchy attitude.

“So you’re okay with being seen with a loser?” She glanced at me, that smug smile returning.

“Or did you not hear? She ran off cowering this morning all because Xander finally woke up and realized he can do better.”

I felt my cheeks flush as my heart hurt again, she was right.

“Excuse me?” Ellen huffed, I glanced to see her eyes darkening with rage. “HE can do better? I don’t think so. He was lucky to even have Laura’s attention for as long as he did.” Sam frowned unhappily that she was standing up for me.

“The attention of a freak?” She laughed, “Laura’s parents were nobodies, mine were an Alpha and Luna.” Sam looked at me triumphantly, “Xander needs to be with someone like me, besides. I. AM. HIS. MATE.”

Ellen stood up her hands shaking, a tremble of fear ran through me as I knew these were signs her wolf form was trying to break free.

“First off, she is not a freak,” she said imitating Sam’s voice “she is a hidden gem in a pool of rocks like yourself.” Sam glared at her, “Secondly, at least her parents FOUGHT for their pack, for their daughter. What did yours do again? Oh, that’s right, they surrendered.” Sam’s face turned to rage as her body started shaking too, I started to scoot my butt backward reading myself to run. I was useless in a fight against their wolves.

“Thirdly, I hope you ARE his mate. You both are spineless, bullies, up-yourselves and you wear too much make-up.” Sam growled jumping towards Ellen braced herself for impact, I closed my eyes waiting to hear the scuffle when a deep oddly attractive voice growled.

“That’s enough.” I opened my eyes to see the stranger in all his glory holding Sam with one hand off the ground and Ellen in the other. Ellen was focused on Sam her eyes still dark and a weird smug smile on her face.

“You’re lucky Sam, I would have kicked your ass.” I tried to stifle a giggle as the stranger shook Ellen.

“Stop acting like children.” He dropped both of them, Sam turned to the man and bowed her head seeming to be embarrassed for some reason.

“My apologies Alpha. I felt insulted.” I looked at the man confused for a moment before it dawned on me, Ellen realizing at the same time. He was Alpha Victor. Both Ellen and I dropped our heads mumbling our own apologies.

“Dismissed pups.” His tone was aggressive, almost hurtful as he drew out pups like an insult.

I felt my cheeks flare in anger as I glared at him shocked that my own body was defining my brain. I screamed to myself to stop as I opened my mouth “you’re a pup too.” Stupid! I screamed in my head as I saw his already almost black eyes darken as a growl escapes his lips.

I felt my heart flutter at his growl, scared? No, almost like… An excited flutter? Sam and Ellen looked at me like I had lost it as Victor stormed towards me. I knew that I was toast, no one EVER spoke back to an Alpha, even if they were only a year older.

“What did you say, pup?” His eyes even though angry seemed to sparkle, momentarily making me want to stare into them forever. I licked my lips nervously as he bent down closer to me. For some reason, I was hyper-aware of just how close his face was from mine, how delicious he smelled.

“I said, what did you say… Pup?” I could feel his anger rolling off his body, my own body was trembling but again weirdly not in fear. I knew it should be. He was an Alpha after all, but he did not scare me.

“I called you a pup, pup.” I couldn’t stop the words leaving my lips and smirked when he growled again, a strange tingling sensation coming over my body. I watched almost in slow motion as his hand grabbed me around the collar of my shirt lifting me off the ground, Sam had run for the hills and Ellen stared at me confused, awestruck, and concerned. I glanced at Victor his eyes now fully black as his wolf's fangs protruded from his mouth. I closed my eyes expecting death for my insolence, no one talked back to an Alpha. When I was suddenly let go and hit the ground hard. I winced and looked over to see Domini‘s brown, shaggy wolf standing between me and Victor. He let out a warning growl before Victor held up his hands. I watched still shocked and weirded out by everything as Domini changed back into a human. His naked, firm ass right in front of my face. I heard Ellen gasp as I turned bright red looking anywhere but directly at him not wanting to be scared for life.

“Alpha, what is the meaning of this? You are a guest here and as I TOLD you, you need to follow OUR rules on OUR lands.” Domini huffed out his voice full of agitation. “We also agreed you would not interfere until she was informed…” He quickly stopped glancing at me with that strange look again before returning his gaze to Victor. Victor looked super pissed glancing between me and Domini, I gulping knowing he really wanted me punished for talking back.

Why did that thought not sound all that bad? I mean if he was to do the punishing… I felt my cheeks go red again trying to force my mind to stop thinking such thoughts, forcing it to focus on Xander.

“Leave, before you cause any more trouble. Alpha Clide will hear of this and he won’t be very happy either.”

Victor growled but did not speak, mealy turning and walking away. Domini sighed before turning to look me over.

“Did he hurt you? I swear to the Goddess…” I pushed him away, not wanting to catch a glimpse of his privates. He looked at me hurt as I tried to explain “uh, can you… like, put on some clothes?”

He glanced down surprised to see himself naked before going bright red himself, looking over his shoulder I followed his line of sight to see Ellen grinning from ear to ear.

“Oh, yeah I saw EEVVEERRYYTTHHIINNGG” she winked as Domini, flustered ran into the woods to grab some of the spare clothes we stored there. I gave Ellen a look as she giggled.

“What, he’s not my adoptive brother” she wiggled her eyebrows “and boy, was he…” I shuddered covering my ears.

“Nuh, I don’t want to hear it!” Ellen giggled more at my discomfort as she came over to check on me herself.

“Did he hurt you?” She asked, eyes swirling again with awe. I shook my head thinking back to how almost pleasant it had felt being held like that.

“I can’t believe you!” she slapped my arm hard “where did those balls come from? Talking back to an Alpha?” She again looked at me with awe.

“I, don’t know.” Was all I could say shifting uncomfortably at her delighted expression?

“That was incredibly idiotic.” Domini chimed in returning thankfully fully clothed.

“I know.” I said sadly, glancing at his face trying to see how disappointed he would be.

“And awesome” he finished with a grin before tussling my hair, “don’t tell anyone that I’m proud of you for doing that though okay?” I cracked a smile my heart singing with joy, yes Xander wasn’t speaking to me but I still had my best friend and brother.

“How did she talk back to him though?” Ellen asked with wonder as Domini frowned.

“That’s actually a very good question, I mean I can defy other Alpha’s as a Beta but the only other person that can normally defy an Alpha is…” he looked up at me horrified but not continuing his line of thinking.

“It’s late, we need to get some sleep. Ellen, I expect you to take the first watch tomorrow morning. Laura, you have been asked to take on some duties within the packhouse.”

Ellen groaned knowing she would only be getting a few hours’ sleep tonight and looked at him shocked.

“Housework? By who’s demand?” He smiled smugly at me.

“I’m proud of you as a brother, but as a Beta, I need to punish your behavior. Cleaning duty for you tomorrow.”

I crept around the packhouse doing my best to sneak into the house-keepers room without being spotted, fear that I would be ridiculed made my heart panic. However, that was silly of me because as soon as I opened the door I saw a lot of my fellow students getting ready to do daily tasks.“Oh, Laura! I’m surprised to see you here!” A girl with wavy red hair called out giving me a small wave and warm smile.I returned her smile as I tried to recall her name, she rolled her eyes before grasping my hand in a handshake.“Bella, seriously Laura I knew you were shy but we have been sitting next to each other for years!” Her voice was light and kind but that still did not stop the embarrassment to consume me. As always my cheeks flushed hot red as I struggled to make eye contact. She raised her eyebrow quizzically but changed the subject.“So, we were all just discussing what floor we were going to do. Have you done any housekeeping before?”“No… umm” I ma

My eyes hurt from the hours of crying but my heart felt a little better. Almost relieved. I stood from my bed and stretched out my arms, smiling as my bones cracked. For a moment I wondered where Domini was as he should have returned by this point but shrugged it off. He was a grown man and I wasn’t his mother. I felt tempted to have a shower knowing it would freshen me up, however, a surge of hunger beckoned me to the kitchen. I was sat at the breakfast bench about to gorge myself on a freshly cooked steak as the door slammed open. I jumped looking at an angry Domini and Alpha Clide entering. My heart hammered with nerves as Alpha gave me an apologetic look as Domini seemed to be seething in anger.“Good evening my dear,” Alpha called to me in a soothing tone “I’m afraid I will need you to take leave for an hour or so.”I glanced to Domini as he nodded a curt yes, I looked at my steak painted as

“Are you stalking me or something?” Fear should have gripped me as I realized, I was speaking, and yet none came. I felt more annoyed than anything else.Bella gasped in shock next to me but kept her head lowered, Victor snarled at me his smirk turning into an annoyed frown.“You are an insolent pup; I would have thought someone would have taught you respect.” His tone was aggressive, causing poor Bella to tremble more. That really pissed me off.“Where do YOU get off?” I felt my eyes narrow as I glared at him. “Not only talking down to people but acting like you are a god amongst us.”His frown deepened as his eyes turned dark, I felt a spark of excitement as he stomped towards me, Bella was practically crying in fear but I kept my head up. He stopped just in front of me, towering over my shorter stature. His body was shaking in rage but something inside of me refused to look away. My mind was suddenly hype

No one had spoken, the air was almost thick with uneasiness as I glanced between the staring contest currently taking place between Alpha Clide and Domini. I let out a frustrated sigh as they both glanced at me surprised at the sudden sound. “Is anyone going to start this ‘grown up’ conversation or can I go to bed?” I asked a little agitated. Domini stared expectantly at Alpha Clide, I was shocked to see him nervously shift his weight again staring down at his clasped hands. “Well… you see…” he glanced to Domini pleadingly but Domini shook his head pursing his lips closed. Clide sighed deeply closing his eyes. “Laura, I know myself and the Luna have not really included you in a lot of things….” He started again before stopping looking again at Domini as if hoping he would take over. He shook his head again a look of disdain on his face. “Alpha, this is your mess.” I gasped shocked at Domini’s tone but he paid me no attention, staring a

For the life of me, I was unable to track down the Luna. It was as if she was avoiding me. I leaned against the wall of the main entrance to the packhouse, closing my eyes to think. Everyone I had spoken to today had directed me to where the Luna was supposed to be, but as soon as I arrived she was gone. I let out an agitated groan running my fingers through my hair trying to think of why she would be doing this? Perhaps the Alpha had told her I was upset? But that surely wouldn’t make her dodge me?“Laura?” An instant smile spread across my face as I opened my eyes to see Micheal standing nervously near me.“Micheal!” I exclaimed before hugging him tightly, “where on earth have you been?”He chuckled returning my hug.“Did Ellen not mention I… needed to take a leave of absence?” His voice shook a little with embarrassment.I pulled back to see him looking around at the crowd of people co

I sat, face down staring holes into the light blue carpet as the Luna paced around me mumbling to herself. I was terrified of looking at her, scared that I would be yelled at next. She stopped in front of me as I stared at her expensive-looking silver heels as she cleared her throat. I held my breath as I looked up to see her serious gaze staring back at me. I felt a small amount of relief that she no longer seemed angry but her words still cut through me like a knife.“What the hell were you thinking?” I quickly looked back down unsure of what exactly she was referring to but still feeling shameful.“Laura.” She sighed disappointed, pausing for a moment before bending down to lift my head back up so our eyes connected.“My sweet child, I should have been more open with you.” My heart hammered as her gaze shifted to calm almost kind demeanor. I awoke submerged into what almost felt like a cloud of warmth, velvet sheets tucked around my body. I yawned stretching my body out until I heard the familiar satisfying cracks of my bones as I realized where I was. I sat up quickly looking around Luna Ashly’s office, surprised to find myself on a mattress next to her desk. A note was folded next to me. I picked it and smiled at her words; My sweet Laura, I did not want to disrupt your sleep. Please take care of yourself as I and the Alpha will be away for the next week on pack business. Try and be mindful of Alpha Victor as he is insistent on claiming you, I have warned him to stay away but matters of this nature never tend to be straightforward. Take care, see you soon. I am not a child.”I looked over her face wondering how old she was, I mean she sure seemed childlike. She caught me staring and winked at me. I giggled nervously as she beamed back at me. Victor growled again, the girl quickly looked at him eyes narrowed before her mouth formed an ‘O’ shape before glancing back to me.“Why do you get the pretty ones?” She muttered with a pout, I raised my eyebrow at her as Ellen shared a worried look with Micheal.“Shoo.” She said looking at Victor and making a shooing gesture. I knew it was almost stupid of me to think that, but I couldn’t help it. It was as if as soon as my wolf had come upon me the world had shifted. I just knew I knew that I loved Victor. I wished I had of given the idea more credence sooner, and not wasted so much time chasing Xander. Xander… why did his name still bring that heaviness to me, was it true? That I had multiple mates?“My Luna?” Victor called me back to reality with a look of concern.I felt oddly guilty, as if it was wrong of me to have any remaining feelings towards him, that even the mere thought was somehow a slight against Victor. I took a deep breath before shaking my head and getting dressed myself.“Laura?” He repeated, his tone steady and yet his eyes showing a vulnerability I found hard to ignore.&

“No… it’s can’t be true…” She whispered as Victor glared at her before glancing at me, worried. “What? What does that mean?!” I asked as Victor picked up another shirt covering the mark. “It means…” Victor sighed, pained. “That I am your second mate.” I stared blankly at him as Rebbeka looked between us horrified and confused. “As in... my second chance mate?” I asked hopeful, yet understanding what this really meant…. “No…” Rebbeka said softly, her eyes flicking back to my mark. “It means you have more than one.” I looked at Victor, my heart hurting at his jealous and pained expression. I didn’t want this… “So… he is her… first mate... ?” Rebbeka asked Victor nervously as if I was no longer in the room. I had expected to be alone for a while once Ellen left to find Domini, and yet no sooner had she left Rebbeka was at the door. A grin plastered on her face, her eyes wide with joy at the mere sight of me. It made me somewhat uncomfortable, she seemed to see me as … as an actual Luna. “Luna!” She exclaimed happily letting herself in, glancing around in disdain at Victor’s room, almost in the same vein as I had. “I had assumed he would have… done something in here…” She mumbled to herself before standing a few meters away from me, one hand on her hip looking down at me with excited eyes. “Luna Laura, I’m sure you are quite busy at the moment… well after the events of today” she smirked as if holding back a giggle before her eyes narrowed and I saw a flash of anger that chilled me. “Of course Alpha Victor has advised me you are insisting on being present during… during the interrogation of the vampire.” She spat vampire with such pure hatred I felt my heart

He gave me a strange look, before sighing and pressing his forehead against mine. I was surprised how sweet and loving his action felt, his skin seemed so pleasantly warm against mine instantly calming down that strange panic “My Luna, It’s okay. Ellen giggled from behind us, throwing the blanket off the bed onto us both.“Wow, am I smarter than our own Alpha?” She teased as Victor rolled his eyes, wrapping me up as if I were a burrito.I was secretly pleased that Ellen seemed less and less scared of him as the days passed, after all, I was learning that he was all bark and no bite.I snuggled into his chest as we walked the halls, feeling exhausted and overwhelmed with my new senses. At least his scent overpowered all the others, his soft and steady heartbeat silenced the insistent noises from the house. He brought us into a new room, it was spacious as if it had not been finished yet. The walls and ceiling were a dull and boring off cream color, Victor put me down on a huge king bed with a white canopy. I

I waltzed into my pack's boardroom room knowing that soon my world would be complete. Anya sat to the right of the head chair, my chair. She too sat with a huge grin spreading across her lips, practically bouncing in excitement. Chandler sat next to her, smiling widely at me as I embraced Rebbeka before shaking his hand. I was so grateful for those two, ever since my parents were murdered they stepped up, not just for mine and Anya’s benefit but for the whole pack. “Domini” I nodded to the frowning man my Luna seemed so fond of, he seemed to have been lost in thought his face changing to a hesitant but friendly one. “Alp
