**Cassandra's POV**

When he left my room, a shiver ran down my spine. His presence was more oppressive than I had imagined. Xavier was not just cold and authoritarian; there was something darker behind his eyes, something that made me feel my time in this place would be even harder than I feared.

"Please, miss, take your medicine!" insisted the maid, handing me a few pills and a glass of water.

I swallowed the pills all at once. They were large, difficult to swallow, but I was already used to taking medicine to stay alive—a habit since the day Sebastian locked me in that dungeon.

"That's good," the young maid commented, relieved. "Now eat. The doctor said you need to recover. We were all worried that you might not make it!" She offered me a plate of soup, her eyes shining with sympathy. "By the way, my name is Jennie."

"How many days was I unconscious?" I asked, surprised by the news.

Jennie hesitated, biting her lower lip as if considering whether or not to tell me the truth. "Well..
