Pov Cassandra

I took a few steps back and almost stumbled, falling onto the bed. Alpha Xavier continued to stare at me intently, as if waiting for my response.

“Don’t tell me you came to take back the gift?” He smiled cynically. “Does this mean you’re going to keep your promise? After all, that’s how we agreed last time…” He murmured, moving closer to me again, not caring about the small distance between us.

“You’re insane! The person I gave this necklace to has been dead for years; you must have found it in some pawnshop!” I shouted angrily. How could he be so cynical, and how could he know that I gave this necklace to someone?

**Flashback**

**Twelve years ago…**

“Help! Help! Let me go!” I screamed desperately, my voice muffled by the cloth pressed against my mouth as those men dragged me toward the trunk of the car. My attempts to fight back were useless against their brute strength. Despair overwhelmed me, and tears began to stream down my face.
