Chapter 64 The Confession

Ava's POv

The car ride home was quiet—too quiet. I could feel the tension in the air, thick and suffocating. Richard didn’t say a word, not even when I tried to break the silence with light conversation.

His eyes just stayed on the road, distant, as if he was driving through his thoughts rather than the darkened streets.

My mind raced. Was this it? The moment where everything crumbles because I’ve held onto this secret for too long? I knew I couldn’t lose him. Not now. Not ever. I had to tell him, to finally reveal the truth, even if it meant risking everything we had.

When we got home, the house was dark. I headed straight to the kitchen, more out of habit than hunger. I found a light snack in the fridge, something I could microwave quickly. It didn’t matter what it was—

I just needed something to focus on that wasn’t the looming conversation.

I brought the plate to Richard, hoping food might soften the tension between us. He barely looked at it.

“I’m not hungry,” he sai
