I released a long sigh laden with unease, setting the knife aside on the counter and stepping out of the kitchen, leaving Jack absorbed by my determined stride. I gently took him by the arm, his head tilted, not quite grasping my intent.

"Come with me."

"Where are you taking me?" he stammered, walking absentmindedly towards the outdoors.

For some strange reason, I felt he truly needed a good dunk in icy water, so when we stopped at the edge of the pool, I gave him a push that sent him plunging headfirst into the chilly water, despite the sun setting behind the mountains and the clouds swirling in warm hues across the sky.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Jack exclaimed, bewildered, as he managed to resurface, running his hands through his hair to push it back from his face, leaving me stunned by the sensuality of his actions. "Why did you do that, Lucy?!"

"Because you deserve it for talking nonsense, you're a complete idiot, Jack," I replied, crossing my arms.
