Chloe walked into the elevator with her mind everywhere except work itself. She wondered how she didn’t notice Mike was cheating or maybe she was at fault for loving her job more than her marriage. She should have known that men like him have needs and since she was in the bureau’s spotlight, it would definitely affect her marriage. Mike was patient enough with her, maybe she was truly the problem and she should have done better. She took a vow on their wedding, she should have tried more to uphold it.

Since she found out he had been going on dates and having a sleepover at their neighbour’s place, her whole world turned upside down. She wondered for how long it had been going on right under her nose and she had no idea it was happening. For someone who is extremely good at finding criminals and making them pay for their crimes, she didn’t notice an emotional crime going on right under her nose. The betrayal stung her hard and she felt more useless even after she caught them.

Nothing hurt her more than knowing her husband doesn’t care. She walked him on in fucking their neighbor from behind and he doesn’t even look remorseful. What’s worse? On her way to work this morning, she bumped into the same neighbour making her way to Chloe’s apartment. Like yesterday didn’t happen or like she doesn’t care enough to hide it anymore. The deed was already done, there was no reason to hide anymore. That moment felt like something the other woman had been waiting for and rather than do something that showed she cared, she just walked off. She grabbed her bag and she headed straight for work.

No need for any childish dramas or anything that would get an emotion out of Chloe, she would rather channel the energy into taking another criminal off the streets. She was going to be keeping a lot of people safe that way and the oath she took at Quantico would be accurate. The people’s safety is above everything else and at the end of each work day she feels relieved knowing a lot of people made it home safely, a lot of murderers didn’t go unpunished because of her job. She took her oath seriously and the only one she didn’t take seriously was her marriage and now it’s back to haunt her.

The elevator pinged indicating it had arrived at his destination and the door slid open. Holding on to a strap of her bag, Chloe walked into the secret building in the underground floor of an abandoned laundromat. This building hosted the task force that kept most of America’s major criminals off the streets and behind the bars where they belong. At least one thing made Chloe happy, her job. It was going to provide her with the distraction she needs to deal with her failing marriage.

“Good morning Chloe, I was kind of expecting you to come in this morning. I was going to leave you a note and when Christie told me what happened, I knew I would wait for you to come in.” Her boss announced as soon as she walked in and Chloe turned to look at Christie who raised her hands in mock surrender. She should have known telling Christie was almost the same thing as announcing it on the work group chat. She probably has told everyone in this building. No wonder they were sending those pitiful stares in her way. She didn’t want their pitiful stares, yet she wanted to get rid of the self loathe that was starting to gather at the pit of her heart.

“You didn’t sound fine last night and I told her to make sure you’d be safe. Here’s a coffee I got you, consider it an apology gift.” Christie said before handing a cup of espresso to Chloe who took it with a smile. Keep her safe or keep the chain of gossip alive. Not like telling the whole task force would change anything, they would still find out either ways.

“What case do we have available now? I need something to take my mind off the fact that my whole life is falling apart.” Chloe asked, there was no need pretending to be fine, she needed that distraction badly. Maybe she would stop checking her phone every minute to see if mike would actually apologise for cheating on her and he would say he’s sorry.

Maybe she was the one at fault and she should have given their marriage more chances. She shouldn’t have skipped major dinner dates and ghosted him for lunch. Maybe her bad habit of forgetting dates of his birthdays and their anniversaries shouldn’t exist. Chloe wasn’t exactly the perfect wife but he always reminded her that he loved her like that, Chloe was always grateful for him. Not until yesterday, she hated him more.

“I actually have something from the CIA that would definitely take your mind off the jerk that you married and the amazing part is that it’s a long term kind of project.” Medea filled her in and Chloe nodded before she grabbed the file that she was stretching to her. She opened the file and one name stood out, Alessandro Russo.

The name didn’t exactly sound strange and she was sure she had heard it a couple of times before. She looked at Medea for more explanation and Christie interrupted whatever the boss was about to say with her excited clapping. Clearly the name meant something and Chloe didn’t exactly know what’s going on. It was defeintely social media gossip becasue Christie is the one wit all the teasa nd soemtimes, it helps with their cases.

“Alessandro Russo is actually a italian drug lord with a hot body that I’d die to sleep with. I mean everyone says it on social media all the time.” Christine chipped in and she earned a glare from Medea. She made a zip sign with her hands over her mouth and Medea turned back to continue with Chloe.

“We received a tip that he was involved in  another mafia takeover and he’s planning to rebuild his mafia network. This time, the bureau wants to nip him at the bud and ruin his empire for life. You have to go undercover and work your way to the top of the ladder. The bureau thinks it would take you three months or less but this man is like New York’s most powerful man illegally, I think it would take more” Medea explained and Chloe nodded.

“An undercover job doesn’t sound that bad and if anything, I don’t think I would be able to state a fine estimate. We have no existing inside man on his team and I would be starting for scratch and paving ways. The fact I’m a female means I would have to work twice as hard, a man like him is definitely not trusting a strange woman enough to put her on his main team minutes after meeting her.” Chloe replied and everyone nodded.

“I hope you figure things out and the bureau would like it if you started as soon as possible. We would be in touch and you know how these things work. Everything would be provided for you including how to get inside the team. You just need to do things like you always do them, perfectly. I trust you on this.” Medea said before patting her shoulder leaving her to her thoughts. Chloe opened the file again and she nodded. She had no idea if she wouldn’t mess this one up with her current state of mind.

The man was surely one hell of a criminal and everything here screamed about how he shouldn’t be messed with.  His kill rate according to the bureau’s investigation showed that he was a beast with a side hobby for killing people. Chloe wondered if this job would help her take her mind off things. Maybe she would get so obsessed with finding a killer that she would forget that mike was fucking their neighbor and he’s unapologetic about it. Maybe it was the perfect distraction and there’s only one way to find out.

It was time to uncover what kind of Alessandro Russo was and make him pay for the crimes he committed against the people. Something told Chloe that this was going to be one of the most life changing experiences for her and she  still couldn’t shake it off. She opened the file again and the clear picture attached to the details file made Chloe hooked. Something about this dangerous man in tattoos made her feel a kind of way, something indescribable. She only hoped it was the hunger for justice she was feeling.

“I feel like you’d be able to pull this through easily. You remember that Ortega job. I was scared shitless and guess who pulled through? My favourite agent did.” Christie said in excitement and Chloe rolled her eyes. Practically everyone did because the Ortega job was the easiest undercover job of her entire career and it was Christine’s first job as an agent. Maybe that’s why she’s so obsessed with it. “The Ortega job was definitely Chloe’s easiest. Even I could pull that through successfully.” Simeon snickered and Chloe made a countdown in her head, it wouldn’t take long before they attacked each other again. They like each other but they won’t admit it and they enjoy attacking each other. Medea and Chloe once agreed that it was a form of sowing emotions. “Everything’s always easy for you that’s why the only thing you’re good at is sitting behind your desk all day and of course, stress-wasting like you actually do anything stressful.” Christine hissed and Simeon turned to look at

Alissa watched for the third time this week as the Capo and his men made it towards the private airstrip to board the private jet, they were probably planning something big but her anger made her leave the big table, she hans’t been in the club since that night and she hasn’t been in the same room alone with Russo since the kiss. He has been doing a very good job at avoiding her and the worst part was him taking away most of her access. She coudln’t access most of the place she used to access before and now she just feels like a redundant person around here. “I wonder what it feels like to be the capo’s girl just as soon as you come on board?” One of the harem girls asked with a snicker and Alissa knew the jab was meant for her, bold of them to assume she was going to grace them with a reply. They probbaly haven’t heard of her club expenditures or that the fact that she literally killed smokey to get on this team, maybe that’s why they are getting so bold to disrespect her. “And get

“Kiss me, Alissa; I want you to do things to me with your tongue." Russo groaned, and Alissa kissed the corners of his mouth with a grin. Her favorite mob lord was tied up, and at her mercy, she was free to do whatever she liked with him.“Oh Russo, you have no idea what you are asking for,” she replied with a smirk before leaning even closer andAlissa awoke with a start, the blaring of her alarm clock jolting her from a restless slumber. She had always been a morning person, but lately, her whole life has been hanging on the dark side of life. Her nights had become restless, plagued by thoughts of Russo, the mystery she wanted to unravel, and the tension that simmered between them. One thing she wasn’t sure of was if he was feeling the same way she felt. She was slowly fitting into this world, and for the first time, she was scared of not being able to walk away when all of this was over. Not like she had gotten much sleep the night before, if you exclude the weird dream she was hav

When Alissa opened her eyes, she was surprised to see how much time had gone. Last night was one of the few nights she didn't get plagued by stupid nightmares, and she could sleep without interruptions. Her alarm had rung three times, and she slept through everything without flinching. The rush to the bathroom was something else, as she hurriedly tried to get ready without spending much time while praying desperately that Russo had gone out or something. She hadn't seen him since she heard his argument with Romero, and she ran. She only hoped he wouldn't mention it, and she hated how much it would make her look like a spy. She should have walked past them without running, and maybe it would have looked like she had no interest in their conversation. As Alissa rushed to prepare for the day, her heart raced with jitters. The thrill of her undercover mission had always been tempered by the danger that lurked around every corner. And now, after that kiss with Russo, her emotions were in

ALISSA’S POV I tossed around in bed before I decided to stand up, it was getting harder to have a decent night of sleep when one person kept clouding my thoughts. I don’t know whether to admit the reason he’s the one I think about a lot is because he’s the sole focus of my mission or if I’m somehow attracted to him. I am slowly getting used to my new life as a secretary to Alessandro Russo, even when my initial job descriptions didn’t involve that. I went from being a regular girl who needed a quick job and a place to stay to being the girl the boss trusted with vital documents. I don’t know if I ever passed my test, but it wasn’t mentioned again and Russo just kept being Russo with me. Today’s dream was kind of different from the rest of the dreams I’ve been having. At least I’m not being used in an immoral way in this dream, I probably should stop thinking and talking about them, maybe I’d stop having them for the last time. It’s better to be delusional“I don’t think I’ve ever s

ALISSA’S POV I had no idea what happened; one minute I was enjoying the party like Russo asked me to, this time alone. I made sure to stay away from those demonic women before I ended up throwing their asses in a pool or something, and the next morning, Russo would be punishing me. I was desperately trying not to think of Russo’s words too. I’ve learned to hold things that come from that man like a pinch of salt. He was playing games he was very good at, and I would stay the fuck out of it.“We are leaving immediately."That was all he said before he made his way towards the same entrance we came in from. I ditched the glass of champagne I was nursing and followed him. He sounded curt, and he looked very, very mad. I have no idea what happened, and I just hope it has nothing to do with me again. I mean, I already apologized to the damn woman, even if she came after me first. She called me a slut.He was already sitting in the car when I got there, and I got in right after him. He sti

ALISSA’S POV The air in Russo's office was thick with tension, and I could feel the weight of it pressing down on my shoulders as we gathered around his desk. Romero had finally unearthed the name of the person who had stolen Russo's phone, a theft that had cost us dearly. It took us a whole lot, but after a whole shipment went missing, Russo started putting everyone under pressure. It was Christine and her husband, Mathias. The same woman who had provoked me to twist her arm when she called me a lsut, I should have known that that stuoud woman was to no good. I hate that I was right about her being sketchy, and I should have done more than just twisting her arm; I should have beaten her properly for the love of God.Russo's voice was low and dangerous as he spoke, his anger simmering just below the surface. "Christine and her husband," he spat out the names like a curse. "They thought they could steal from me and get away with it. Now they’ve cost me a whole lot of shipping, and the

The azure waters of the Aegean Sea stretched endlessly before us, each wave whispering tales of the timeless beauty that surrounded our haven. The Grecian sun, a molten orb in the cerulean sky, cast a golden glow over the whitewashed walls of our secluded vacation home. I had orchestrated this idyllic retreat, a sanctuary where the echoes of our love story would harmonize with the serenity of the landscape. The villa, nestled on a hillside, offered panoramic views of the sea, a canvas painted in hues of sapphire and emerald. Every detail had been meticulously arranged—a testament to my desire to create a moment etched in the tapestry of our shared history.Chloe, unaware of the orchestration unfolding around her, marveled at the beauty of the surroundings. As she strolled through the manicured garden adorned with vibrant bougainvillea, a breathtaking panorama unfolded before her. The room felt heavy with an unsaid tension as Russo's eyes locked onto mine. His question was simple, yet it echoed loudly in the silence, "Are you going to scream?" A myriad of emotions swirled within me, leaving me speechless in the wake of this unexpected encounter.I shook my head very fast, I have zero intentions to scream and knowing Russo, he wasn’t here to hurt me. I wondered how he tracked me down to this pace, but i guess I wasn’t that hard to find. I wasn’t really bothered about hiding my location, and even now, I still don’t care. With a nod from him, the grip on my wrists eased, granting me freedom. In that moment, I anticipated anger or retribution for my betrayal. To my surprise, Russo's gaze remained steady, studying me as if decoding a complex message. The air hung thick with the weight of our shared history and the choices that had led us to this crucial moment.Struggling to find my voice, I began to apologize, the words spilling out in a desperate attempt to conve

The coastal town had transformed into my safe haven, a place where the crashing waves played a soothing symphony in tune with my solitude. Tranquil days extended into weeks, each sunset delivering a sense of peace that had long evaded me. Despite the calm, the echoes of my past refused to fade away. The constant buzzing of my phone disrupted the peace of my coastal retreat. Mike's persistent attempts to contact me forced a change of numbers, a desperate measure to shield myself from the shadows of my previous life. Medea had expressed concern in a call, but I insisted on isolation. The need for distance, both physical and emotional, propelled me to this picturesque coastal town. The local animal shelter stood like a beacon of hope, offering a sanctuary for abandoned souls seeking refuge. My decision to adopt a dog stemmed from a longing for companionship, an acknowledgment that I couldn't face the echoes of my past alone.Upon entering the shelter, the air was filled with a mix of bar

As I entered my flat, the weight of the decisions I had made sat heavy on my shoulders. The sound of the door closing brought to my attention the emptiness that appeared all around me, serving as a continual reminder of the choices that brought me to this isolated location. The evening progressed, and it turned out to be a very unpleasant experience. It seemed as though each passing second was a march towards a daybreak that did not provide any assistance. I was unable to fall asleep, and the shadows that were cast on the walls seemed to make fun of the fragmented reality that I was confined in.Even the dawn did not bring any solace. On the contrary, the consequences of my treachery were followed with a sickening malaise. This morning, I made a conscious effort to walk to work, avoiding every regular route that I typically use. The experience of ascending the stairs to get to work has never been so taxing. It was as if I had returned to my own reality, and the world had obviously mov

There was a heavy sense of expectancy in the air, and the tension in this room had been in a chokehold that was gradually released. As we watched the covert drama that was taking place on the TV in front of us, Medea stood next to me, remaining mute as she watched it. The bait had been accepted by Russo, despite the fact that I had prayed to the universe countless times that he would not. With his knowledge, it is likely that he would arrive by himself and not even notify Romero about it. The FBI will not kill him, which is a relief; nonetheless, the most unfortunate aspect is that he was present during this treachery. When I was writing the report, I would have preferred not to stare into his eyes; but, the honorable thing for me to do was to cuff him personally. This was my way of letting the director know that I had completed the responsibilities of the job. I was on my way to being promoted, and it was likely that I would be transferred away from this state once all of these thi

Although I was able to hear the faint echoes of laughing and glasses being clinked, I was unable to pick up on the lively energy that was there at the after-party. In spite of the shifting shadows and weak lights, I examined the whole area in an effort to locate the recognizable shape of Alissa. All the same, she remained evasive, like a ghost in the middle of the celebration. There is a good chance that she is in this area, on my side, and not too far away from me. I have been doing all in my power to alleviate the tension that exists between us, and I have been doing an excellent job of handling it. Even if there is a small voice in my brain that continues arguing back, at least I am aware that she will not be leaving me any time soon. As I turned to face Romero, you could see lines of confusion etched over my forehead. "Have you seen Alissa?"The short hesitance that was obscuring his countenance caused his eyes to waver somewhat. The day of the celebration was jam-packed with activities. Russo entrusted me with the organization of things since he needed to focus on his company. As I moved from one position to the next, I oversaw the completion of all of Russo's requests. Romero, who never wavered in his allegiance, was a tremendous assistance to me in comprehending the complex interplay between mob politics and societal norms. As time went on, Romero instructed me to get ready and urged me to depart. He told her, "Alissa, everything's set here," and he meant it.I am grateful that we were given a break. I took a moment to reflect on my appearance in the serene dressing room mirror. A tumult of conflicting emotions erupted as a result of the weight of my obligations, the directives from the FBI, and the conversation I had to have with Russo.I paused for a few seconds, tears streaming down my cheeks. My mind kept going back to the premeditated kidnapping that took place earlier in the day despite the fact that the day was fraught with chaos. Russo came into my life at a time when I was trying to unravel the falsehoods and deceptions, bringing with him a force that sliced through the gloom."Alissa!" he exclaimed, the joy in his eyes clearly seen in his expression. "I have something amazing to tell you."I remembered the convoluted past that we had together and stared at him with wary fascination as I recalled it. "What is it, Russo?"He talked with much zeal.
