Young Raven had been on the streets since she was 14 and her mom died. She spots a help wanted sign in a pub run by three seemingly normal brothers but what happens when they are anything but normal. Will she find her way back to then after being kidnapped or will she live without the love of her life and forever be trapped in an abusive relationship.
As I walk through the streets of the Rave, my stomachs growls reminding me that the last meal I had was a scrap of bread the day before. It's a dog eat dog world here in the Sapphire realm and I'd prefer not to be eaten. My name is Raven, I've been living on the streets of the Rave for 2 years now. Since my mom, Amanda died when I was 15 I had nowhere else to go so I was left to fend for myself since Then. Jobs would come and go but normally I'd have to scavenge.
The streets aren't as bad as they sound, some people take pity on us and give us food, sometimes even shelter but nothing in this world is free. They always expect some kind of favor in return. I may not have much but I'd like to keep a hold on my dignity.
I kick a small pebble that skitters into the darkness of the pavement as I walk down, I hear festive sounds coming from the pub at the end of this street but I ignore it. No use hoping to have something you never will. Even though I have magical blood, I'm a fire slifer. I have no clue how to harness my power so it's basically useless. I've only had one or two incidents of nearly burning a house down but other than that I feel basically human.
Normally children are taught by their parents at their coming of age, when they turn sixteen. My mom didn't make it more than 5 days after my 15th birthday before she died. I couldn't save her, she had what the humans call cancer, all over her lungs. It's illegal for us supernatural beings to go to human doctors and nobody could save her.
There is no use dwelling on the past, I think to myself as I kick the pebble a second time. Right now I need to focus on getting food. I look through the window of the pub, glancing at all the people in the warmth and glow of the light. A flyer in the window catches my attention 'help wanted, residency included'
That doesn't sound half bad I think to myself. I push the door open triggering a small bell in the entrance. Everyone glances in my direction. Taking in my torn and dirty clothes, cropped, dirty black hair and scuffed shoes. It only takes them a moment to return to their conversations like I never even walked in, which is honestly how I prefer it.
I walk up to the bar and plonk myself onto one of the stools.
"Are you still hiring" I ask the young looking man behind the bar.
"That depends who's asking girly" he responds with a deep and gruff voice.
"I was wondering if I could fill the position" I say, trying to sound soft and feminine, men love a 'damsel in distress'.
"You look like you'll fit in just fine here" he says, giving me the once over.
"Tommy!" He yells louder than necessary, as a skinny looking boy, no older than 18 comes rushing out of the kitchen.
"Yes, you called" he says in an impossibly quiet voice.
"Take this young lady to the employees quarters, she can have the room next to yours. Also make sure to give her a uniform so she can start work tomorrow, give her some bread as well, she looks scrawny as hell" The gruff bartender says.
"sure thing" the timid boy responds before scurrying off towards the kitchen after beckoning me to follow.
As he leads me into the kitchen. I take in the tired looking stove with an equally old looking oven underneath it. There are shelves and shelves stacked with cooking supplies and pots and pans hanging from hooks attached to the ceiling. He hands me a small slice of bread which a wolf down immediately, muttering a thank you through my full mouth.
He continues to lead me down a thin, dimly lit passage That has four doors aligning it.
"This will be your room" Tommy says as he gestures to the door at the end of the passage,
"It's just opposite mine so let me know if you need anything." I barely know Tommy but I can already tell that we are going to be friends.
"Thanks Tommy" I reply with a smile.
"I'll let you get comfortable," Tommy says as he begins to exit the room, "I hope you stay longer than our last waitress did" he adds with a smile as he leaves the room. I don't have anything to unpack, except my small backpack, in it are clothes, some cash and 1 Lone toothbrush. I set it down the rickety bed as I take in my surroundings.
The room isn't big by any stretch of the imagination but it isn't small either, there is a small closet in the corner with uniforms in multiple sizes, in the other corner there is a door that leads into an adjoining bathroom. The bathroom has a tiny shower in the corner, a basin and a toilet too. The bathroom seems pretty stocked up with soaps and toothpaste.
As I head back towards my bed a see a small bedside table with an even smaller lamp atop it, next to it sits a tiny old fashioned alarm clock. The lamp is so tiny it barely lights the room but it's better than darkness. I'm only starting work tomorrow but I'm not sure what time I start so I head out of my room, back down the passage and through the kitchen.
As I walk through the kitchen I bump into a wall-like being.
"Hey watch where you're going" says a big burly man who looks similar to Tommy, only bulkier.
"Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going" I murmur as I pull away from the man but he catches me by my forearms.
"Whoa little lady, didn't mean to be rude." He says, giving me an appreciative once over.
"What is a pretty lass like you doing in the kitchen?" he asks, still not releasing me.
"I'm the new waitress, the guy at the bar hired me", I respond as an uneasy feeling creeps up my spine.
"Oh you mean you mean Jason", the burly man says, "he's my brother, my name's Damian by the way" he adds, extending his hand
"Raven black", I state as I reach out mand shake his hand.
"is Tommy also related to you?" I question with an arched eyebrow
"Yeah, he is only 17 though, I'm 23 and Jason is 21, Tommy is still just a kid" he continues with an almost wistful look in his eye.
"how old are you sweetheart?" He asks with his charming demeanor.
"I just turned 17 this January" I say, hoping it won't change anything.
"Perfect", he says with a playful glint in his eye. Trying to ignore his flirtatiousness I continue
"What time should I be ready for work tomorrow?" I question Damian who is still standing to close for comfort.
"I don't usually work with the waitresses but for you I'll make an exception", he says with a wink, "I'll go ask Jason, don't move a muscle" he says as he dashes out of the kitchen.
I stand there awkwardly for about ten seconds before Damian comes dashing back into the kitchen. "Jason says be dressed in uniform and in the kitchen at 7:30 tomorrow morning, if you're an early riser you know where my room is." He adds with a smirk and a wink.
"Thanks, I'll see you tomorrow then, Goodnight" I brush past him and back into the narrow hallway, all the way to my room.
I take a quick two minute shower and scrub myself down with the coconut scented soap in the shower and brush my teeth. I twist the old alarm clock to wake me up at 7:00 before climbing into bed in one of my oversized ratty T-shirts I pull the cover over me and turn onto my side, away from the closed door. I wonder how long I'll be able to keep this job before they start asking for things I can't give them I think as I drift off to sleep.
"She can't know Mike, she is too young to start her training. She hasn't even come of age yet" a feminine voice says in an argumentative tone, peering through the crack in the door I see my moms face over a mans shoulder. They're having a really heated conversation and it looks like my mom is winning this argument."With a power like hers she needs to train, if she turns 18 before she learns to harness it she could destroy herself and those around her" he counters in their fight. I don't even know who they are talking about.
The day goes on as customers come and go. The breakfast rush finished a while ago and it's almost time for lunch. Just after I've finished cleaning up the breakfast mess the bell rings again. Well that sucks, I haven't had a moment to day dream yet, today has been really busy. A bunch of guys looking Tommy's age waltz into the pub. Their walk practically screams entitled males. Well this is going to be fun. From my spot just behind the counter I hear one of the talking to Jason
We walk down the street and I found a pebble to kick. After a few blocks the black buildings come to an end revealing a dark meadow that is swarming with life. Lanterns are strung up between tents and stalls of all different color variations adding to the festivity. There is a huge Ferris wheel in the Centre strewn with different colored lights and random clowns, tricycle riders and jugglers mixed into the crowd. I've never been to festival before but it sure looks like a lot of fun.It looks like a world on its own, all smiling faces and bright colors, children laughing, couples holding hand
The next morning I wake up from a dreamless sleep, to the sounds of my alarm. I think this beeping alarm is quickly becoming my least favourite sound. It takes me a moment to be able to focus my eye in the dim lighting of my room. After lying in bed for 3 minutes adjusting to being awake, I pull off my blanket and stand and stretch my arms up, twisting my neck until I hear several clicks. I walk towards my cupboard. Pull on my uniform, thankfully I found a bigger size thta is way more comfortable. I walk out of my room. Not even bothering to smooth out my hair, what's the use anyway?I walk t
As I'm sitting there with my mouth hanging open from shock, Jason explains how his parents died when the humans started hunting warlocks, humans thunk that supernaturals are the problem and then take parents away from their children, unbelievable. He and his brothers manage to survive off the pretenses of being human, thankfully people didn't pay to much attention to them. Warlocks have a certain gift called the sight where they can see and almost smell magical power. That is how he knew about my flame. At least now I don't have to question my acting skills, just my perfume quality. That's a big relief
As I enter my room I grab a pair of blue running shorts out of my bag and a black sports bra, after pulling my hair into a tight pony I walk out to their bar where Tommy and Damian are already sitting and chatting at a vacant table. Just as I'm about to join them Jason comes out of the kitchen. "Let's head to the gym shall we," he says walking past his chatting brothers, straight to the door.We all walk down the dark-ish streets, it's only getting darker as the sun sets. Damian is wearing a white tank top revealing his muscled arms and a pair of black basketball shorts. Tommy is wearing a gr
"I always thought you were a little bitch, now my suspicions are confirmed." I sneer at James as his smirk falls off his face. That's right, I can verbally abuse you too."At least I'm not a slut who opens my legs for all three brothers," he hisses in return"Well that makes two of us, now kindly get your sorry excuse for an ass out of here before I beat it to a pulp again." My eyes stray to something hanging on his belt, what the hell? Are those handcuffs? Now I know that he is a sadistic prick, I have all the confirmation I need.
As promised? Ofcourse, why didn't I think of it before? They are also warlocks and so are there younger brothers, they knew I was a fire slifer almost as soon as Jason did. I wonder why they still tired to take me on in the alleyway, I guess they are just plain stupid. I really should've been more careful cloaking my smell. "Yes, she will do quite nicely," the king says as if I were some prized horse someone had just gifted him. He steps off his throne dragging his long cape behind him. So out tax money goes to buying matching capes for him and his son, wonderful. He might actually look regal if I didn't hate his guts. He walks towards me and brings my eyes to meet his with two fingers on my chin, tilting my face towards his as I glare at him with as much hate and ferocity that I can muster.
"Amanda, would you please come for lunch and bring Patrick and Mike with you," I yell down the hall as I set out the plates for lunch. Amanda is now five years old and looks exclusively like a mini me. Except her eyes, they are like pools of honey, just like her fathers."coming mommy," she replies, yelling down the hall. I've been called mommy plenty times by now but I still get a warm fuzzy feelin in my stomach every time it happens.
Jason and I climb into bed after everyone has left from lunch, the lunch was very filling so we don't bother with dinner and decide to get an early night. I slip under the covers in my silken night dress just as Jason comes out of the bathroom. His chiseled abs are on display as he is only wearing pajama pants but I'm not complaining, he looks positively delicious.
1 week later...Jason and I are cuddled up on the couch as he flips through the sports channels. Snore. Everything turned o
Sprinting in the direction of the yell I run down a couple of passages until I hear another scream and it's getting louder. It doesn't sound like Knight or Scott if I'm being honest. I'm super confused. I turn a corner to spot Samson pinned up against a wall by Knight. "Where is Scott?" Knight snarls in his face as he presses a knife to his throat.
I must've fallen asleep on Jason's chest because I wake up to a weird sensation. For a moment I feel like all the heat and life has been sucked out of the world. Like a dark portal has opened and is sucking up life. Then the sensation vanishes. Feeling weird I got up off Jason, careful not to wake him up, walking into the bathroom. After I flush the toilet I still feel a little different. I fell unsettled, like something is off in the atmosphere.
After a tearful reunion we all sit at the dining room table and eat lunch which consists of roasted chicken, salad and baked potatoes. The three siblings have been talking non stop and refuse to leave each other's sides which isn't great for an interrogation. I really need to get her alone so I can ask her some questions without her brothers getting defensive.
Instant regret flashes through his eyes his eyes as I flinch away from his harsh voice, "I'm sorry babe, I didn't mean to yell, I'm just frustrated and confused, seeing Delia again made me feel things, things I don't want to feel," he confesses and my heart cracks just a little. He does still have feelings for her. After all this time.
The sight before us is not what I expected. Samson, Cornelius' brother is laying on his back on the bed, being straddled by a blond girl with a very pale complexion and brown eyes that look like the image of innocents. Her mouth works hungrily on his, his hands are grasping her waiste apunder her shirts and she really seems to be enjoying herself. I don't know how but they haven't seemed to have heard us come in yet. Judging by Jason's reaction I take it that the blond is Delia. I'm not going to lie, I'm glad that she has her tongue down someone other than Jason's throat. Maybe she has alread
After Jason finishes his confession he makes me promise that I won't tell Tommy or Damian and I agree. It's not my secret to share. Tommy calls Knight over. Apparently Knight is a tech wiz and is going to try and break into the castle's infrastructure to see if we find a place where they might be keeping the warlocks. It occurs to me that they might be being kept against their will so we map out the dungeons and cells as well. I'm not sure if I want Jason to find a Delia it could either me a closure or new feelings and I'm not sure if I'm willing to take that chance.I see Jason hoping that h
