Chapter 6
I remember the whole first year at the academy I couldn’t find my feet. Everything I did was wrong; I was getting beat up in every challenge. They would pick me first in events because they knew I was weak. I tried very hard to master the techniques they were teaching, but I just couldn’t get it. I was bullied. This got the attention of Commander Kyle. He sent for me asking if I really wanted to be there and did I really think it through about becoming one of the elite warriors there. That pissed me off because I always knew what I needed. Everything came to a head when the main bullies, a pair or twins, Saskia and Saxon called themselves taking me deep into the Phantom woods to die and what happened there changed my life forever.
“Flashback”
“You just need to toughen up, we’re really doing you a favor.” Saskia said as she held one of my arms in a vice.
“You’re a soft little bitch and there’s no room for you in the Werewolf academy, especially when you haven’t even shifted yet.” Saxon huffed. He was always the crueler one.
They threw me down on the ground, laughing about how they knew the way out and wished they could watch me scream and cry about being left in the woods. What they didn’t know is these woods were alive, there were creatures in here that by design would drive you crazy and kill you. I did my research before coming here. I knew what was out there. The spirits get in your head and make you crazy, then you face your worse nightmare, and this information came from the few who survived being here. Saskia and Saxon ran away trying to get out before nightfall, but they never made it. As I sat with my knees pulled up on my chest. I heard it.
“What’s wrong darling, are you sad?” I looked up to see nothing and no one. “I know what’s bothering you. Nobody wants you, you’re nothing and they won’t give you a chance. I can be your friend. All you have to do is let me in.”
“Let you in where?” I asked with a shaky voice.
“Inside of you. Let me in and I’ll make everything alright.”
“No. LEAVE ME ALONE!”
“Flashback over”
“I knew I’d find you here!”
“Ahhh shit! LaLa! You ass! You scared the shit out of me!”
“Sorry sis, but I knew when they said you took off exactly where you’d go; and I was right.”
“This place always smoothed out my crooked.”
“I know. I’d come here after you left to soothe my soul too. I really missed you.” He smiled.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
We sat here for a long time in a comfortable silence until I smelled him. Shit, I didn’t want to be bothered with him. So, I stood up to head back home when he came through the clearing.
“Hey Lance, can I talk to Phoenix please I need to clear some things up.”
“Sure. You good Phee?”
I was ecstatic that he considered me first before leaving. “Yeah Lala, I’m good. I’ll see you at home.” He took off into the woods. I’m now turned toward him with my attitude firmly placed.
“Before you say anything and get mad again, I’d like to apologize.” My antennae went up quickly.
“Again, for what?”
“For everything. I was an ass.” I scoffed at that. “And I can’t believe that Amy was against me this whole time, and she let harm come to our pack members on purpose.”
Things with your Luna are none of my business, but you having a block up as an alpha is irresponsible, especially when there is a threat against your pack.” I said with all the attitude I could muster.
“My parents know that I rejected you.” I shook my head like ‘and.’ “They are not happy with me. I’m sure the whole pack with know soon.” He looked out across the water with an emotion I couldn’t read. “I suppose I have a lot of explaining to do.”
“Not on my account.” I said with absolutely no emotion. He sighed. “Yes I owe you an explanation too.” He said and I was intrigued.
“How so?” in all the time I’ve known Gael he never looked at me with anything other than disgust and distain. This time he walked right up to me and looked me square in the eyes and I mirrored him right back.
“I never hated you Major Greeley. I was, however, caught up in what other people thought of me. Being the Alpha’s son puts pressure on you to be the best at everything, have the best of everything and I fell right into the bully category. Amy, for some reason always hated you. Now I see it was jealousy, but what I can’t figure out is, I would have these moments of clarity and start to feel really guilty at what we’d been doing to you. Then like magic, I just didn’t care.” He looked away then. I started to speak, and he looked at me again with so much intensity that I winced.
“You know my wolf was always against any mistreatment of you. You were who he recognized as his mate, and he’s been adamant about that fact ever since. He’s always hated Amy and never took her as his. He’d never let me….finish inside her or mark her.” He took a step closer to me and the intensity created a heat between us. “He hasn’t let me shift since you left.” My eyebrows went up. That is serious, when you are not on the same accord as your wolf. It makes you weaker. Your wolf is your other half and gives you strength, especially an Alpha, his wolf is stronger than all others. I found I took a small step back. “You know, I don’t know why I’m telling you all this now, but I felt the betrayal pains and they brought me to my knees. I had to take a very large pill to ease the pain. Only Amy and Doc Simmons knew it. So, I know you’re not a virgin.” I smirked.
“You don’t think you were the only one who got to have a little fun, huh? Also, you started it. The betrayal pains from you and her were no walk in the park either; and I was a rejected wolf when I had sex, you cannot say the same.” Now I looked at him with an intensity that could burn down the world. He took that step forward and I could smell him, but I didn’t break eye contact with him.
“I wish I could turn back time and do better. I regret everything I’ve ever done to you.”
“Do you now?” I licked my lips and watched his eyes follow my tongue. He was so close his scent was making me dizzy.
“Yes.” He said breathlessly. He looked like he wanted to kiss me, and Goddess knows that wasn’t happening.
“Well sometimes, Alpha, there is too much water under the bridge and all that we have left is regrets.” With that I turned to walk back to the packhouse. When he appeared right in front of me. I sighed. He leaned in to whisper in my ear.
“I won’t stop until I earn my mate back.” He startled me with the determination on his face. I walked around him and turned and walked backwards.
“Good luck with that, Alpha.” I turned and sprinted into the woods.
Gael stood facing the water for the longest and the feeling that kept building in his heart was determination to win Phoenix back. He wanted her, but then again, he always wanted her. He didn’t know why he did what he did, but for some reason he felt free and the longer he stood there the more he and Ronan connected and boy did it feel good. He felt Alpha strength, and wisdom coil into his very being. The resolve in his soul would not relent and before he took his last breath, he would claim his mate and make her as happy as she should’ve always been. Ronan stood up proudly in agreement.
Chapter 7I walked up the porch to my parents’ house when I heard the most vicious howl in my life. I knew immediately who it was. I ran to the packhouse as fast as I could. It was Lance and he sounded like a combination of rage and sorrow. I rushed into the packhouse and there were three warriors trying their best to hold him back.“LaLa! What is going on? What’s wrong?”“I’m going to kill him; I’m going to kill her!” I ran up to him and held him around his waist, I felt him calm a little. “Who bubba, who?”“Let me go Phee, you didn’t tell me, WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME!” He was hysterical. I heard my mom and dad come in with our dad rushing over to hold LaLa back.“Tell you what LaLa?” I screamed at him and then it dawned on me. Oh shit, he found out Gael was my mate.“Son, son please calm down!” Now mama was holding him. My heart was breaking. He was hurting and it was for me. I went to stand outside on the porch of the packhouse when I saw Gael running up. All I could think of was to
Chapter 8When we reached the bottom floor, this dungeon didn’t smell like most. There was always the smell of blood, vomit and emptied bowels where the prisoners were tortured for information; but this dungeon was like club freaking Med. I looked at Tina and Ron and we just shook our heads, it actually smelled like air fresheners and cleaning products. I rubbed my temples and mindlinked the team, “This is some bullshit. I could vacation here.” I said shaking my head. The guards down there were playing cards, not at attention and not even facing the cell she was in to monitor any movements. There was actually a fucking window in the cell, and it was cracked to let in fresh air. I was through. I took mental notes as I was going to tear him a new ass later. What kind of Tom foolery was this?“Justin, Toby, at ease. Open Amy’s cell we need to see her.” At ease?! Are you fucking kidding me!? They were at ease alright. They got up and opened the cell and we walked in, and Amy was sitting on
Chapter 9Gael returned to the packhouse not wanting to admit that he was sore all over. He’d worked out all of his life, but he’s never been this sore from a ten-minute workout with Phoenix. He kept reminiscing how she moved with such grace and poise. She even had her eyes closed the whole time. When Randall stepped up to help him throw her off, the way she ran into him and knocked him on his ass was astounding. As he was almost at his office, he heard noises coming from inside. He stopped and instantly anger filled him. Who had the audacity to be in the Alpha’s office without permission? As he felt his wolf about to surface he opened the door, that was slightly ajar, and what he saw almost made him pass out.His father had his mother bent over his desk giving her the absolute business. Her face was concentrated in ecstasy and his father looked as if his life depended on ramming her as hard as he could. Gael couldn’t speak he just heaved, slammed the door and sprinted down the hall.
Chapter 10I sat down in the bathtub filled with hot water and lavender and moaned as it covered my body in relaxing warmth. I could never have a relaxing moment without my subconscious drifting back to some damn trauma in my life. I never told anyone what happened to me in the Phantom Woods because I wasn’t sure of it myself.Flashback“All you have to do is let me in.”“Let you in where? I asked with a shaky voice.“Inside of you. Let me and I’ll make everything alright.”“No. LEAVE ME ALONE!”“You really should watch that temper. It can change the world. I know who you are.”I sat up a little braver. “Who am I?”It laughed or at least I think I was a laugh, it sent cold shivers down my spine. “Heathen Wolf, be sure to ask Odin.”“What?”“Go now, I will release you from this place, but I shall be watching you Ulfheonar, your sacrifices sate me.I walked out of the Phantom Woods only to see Saskia and Saxon strung up like scarecrows disemboweled with their eyes open in fright. I col
Chapter 11That night after Phoenix showered and fell into bed exhausted over the day she had, she fell into a deep sleep. Meanwhile Gael was also in bed falling into a deep sleep thinking of Phoenix, he began to dream. He dreamt that Phoenix was standing in the field in front of the packhouse with a sheer dress on, the kind where you could see her whole body. Her hair was in coily waves down her back and the wind blowing against her made her look ethereal. She called his name and her voice, the sound went straight to his dick. He watched as she started walking toward him and the way her body moved had him paralyzed and unable to take his eyes off her. When she finally reached him, he just took her in, her scent enveloped him and his whole body tingled. His hand touched her cheek and electric shocks shot through his fingers, his arm, his whole body. Her hazel eyes seemed to pierce his soul. After what seemed like an eternity, he bent to kiss her and when their lips met, the mate bond
Chapter 12As Phoenix stood in the shower, watching the blood and chunks go down the drain, she wasn’t injured but felt a significant loss. She only killed in battle, in self-defense. Even the missions she was sent on, these were bad people who had killed the young, had used them for sexual trafficking and abused them beyond belief. It still made her sick to her stomach, but she always remembered what she learned from the Phantom woods about her temper. She practiced keeping her temper in check because she never knew what could happen if she truly lost it.She stood in the closet finding clothes to put on when there was a knock at the door. She didn’t care that she was in a towel and her hair still wet just said “come in.” In walks Gael who stops and quickly closes the door because he didn’t want anyone to walk by and see what is his. He stood there looking at those beautiful brown smooth legs and arms and imagined what she looked like naked. He adjusted himself and cleared his throat
Chapter 13Lance’s POVI’m sitting here on the porch still in disbelief over what I’ve seen my sister do. I was on the verge of stepping in so many times, but with each moment I was mesmerized with her. I never knew Phee held that kind of power. She’s always been my baby sister. When she was up against Montrose, I knew she would beat him, but the force of the kill move she used was incredible. Then she stood and challenged everyone before her, I must admit I was nervous because I wouldn’t let anyone rush her or hurt her, but then I looked over at Gael and I knew I’d be second in anything having to do with Phee. He was battle ready and did I see pride on his face? She was a well-oiled machine taking out everyone that stepped to her. The last guy, I actually felt sorry for. He was trying to be a warrior, but sometimes you gotta know when to say when. The way she ended him was brutal. After, she stood waiting and then the rest of Montrose’s warriors went to their knees with the sign of
Chapter 14She told them everything from her time in the Phantom woods to the day she went to the library, to the present. Doc Simmons sat up straight in his chair and said, “That explains so much. Your healing is incredible, your speed, strength. You’re everything is a hundred times more powerful than that of an ordinary wolf.”“Your aura is excruciating, and it brings Alphas to their knees.” Gael smiled as he looked at her.Doc Simmons was so excited. He got out of his seat and paced the room, “Oh I have to pull the books on Odin, I’ll start researching right now.” He ran out of the room like a kid with a new toy.Gael thought about all that Phoenix said and he had a myriad of emotions concerning his life up to now. He was destined to this wonderful entity, where he was the only one who could rein her in when she was out of control. He also thought about how dumb he’d been for years, and he still hadn’t sealed the deal with her yet. The twinge in his pants made him anxious to get to
Chapter 35As they approached the packhouse, the omega’s bowed as they held the door open for these massive beasts. Two omega’s held the doors open to the Alpha’s suite and quickly exited when both wolves were inside. An Alpha wolf is very protective of his Luna and pups and if you linger to long they may see it as a threat. So once the door was closed Freya went to the floor and began to shift back. Ronan stayed, watchful to make sure Phoenix was alright.Phoenix woke on the floor with Ronan licking her face. “Mmmm, hi Ronan, did you have a good time last night?” she smirked as she sat up.He answered by lying next to her with his paws surrounding her body. She leaned into his massive chest and stroked his ears. He purred.“Thank you for always taking care of us, loving us. I’ll always be devoted and love you with all my heart and soul.” He leaned over her and rubbed her face.“You and Freya are my reason for being. I’ll always choose you both.”“Ronan, give me my Luna back please.”
Chapter 34They walked hand in hand with a picnic basket that had extra clothes and food in in. They didn’t know how long Ronan and Freya would be at it, so they wanted to be prepared. In the deepest part of the forest, they stopped and kissed each other. Both of them still mesmerized with the fact that they were blessed with each other. Phoenix started to undress with Gael staring at her with love and adoration in his eyes. He followed her lead and in no time they were both naked under the moonlight.“I’ve never shifted before Gael; I don’t know what is going to happen. I know it can be painful, and I’m okay with that, but I’ve heard it’s better when your mate is there.”“Yes my love, having your mate near helps tremendously; so I’ve heard. You ready?”“Yes.”Freya spoke to Phoenix. “Alright girlie, I’m ready and trust me okay? It’s isn’t going to be as bad as you think. I need you to relax and let go. If you fight me, it will be painful, do you understand?”“I do, and I trust you wi
Chapter 33This time Gael came and held me tightly. I don’t know if it was for him or for me. I held him back, but I couldn’t seem to cry about it.What started my tears was the little boy, Franklin. He went through years of therapy and treatment and finally when his wolf presented himself, he was able to heal in ways that made my heart happy.I’d kept up with him for years, I’d even met with him after he insisted on speaking to the one who saved him that night.I wasn’t sure I’d be able to, but I did. He thanked me and told me he wanted to attend the Werewolf Academy like I did and become a top-notch warrior like me so he could help those out there in need.I made sure he was accepted.I never thanked the Moon Goddess more for the crap I went through, because it brought me to Franklin.“I’d like to meet Franklin one day too babe.”…..What the fuck?“How did you know what I thought?”“I don’t really know; all I know is that you started speaking about it and I assumed you were mindlinki
Chapter 32We stood there stunned at this beautiful woman with white hair and a kind smile. Gael immediately tensed up knowing she was a witch.“Trust me, I mean you no harm.” She raised her hands in the air.“Yeah right, isn’t that exactly what a witch would say? How did you enter my territory, witch?”“No need to be rude Alpha Gael. If I wanted to attack you, I could’ve done it years ago, but I knew we would end up right here. Now I have vital information; do you want to know it or not?” She cut him a look with her hand on her hip and I knew she was legit.“Sorry about him, Miss……?” I asked her holding Gael’s hand tighter hoping to relay to him to hush and listen.“Tolina, Phoenix and I know everything about you, and if you’ll give me a minute of your time I can explain it to you.”“Okay. Let’s head to the packhouse.” Gael screamed in my head. “NO! I won’t allow her in the packhouse because there are innocents in there. I won’t have it!”Tolina then said, “Fine Alpha Gael we can sit
Chapter 31She found some righteous indignation in her as she tried to sit up and vehemently deny that Gael was with me every night. So much so, her signature nastiness came through and the snarl on her face reminded me that the real Amy was always just below the surface.“How does it feel Phoenix to know I had your man first? That I let him do whatever he wanted to me, whenever he wanted, and he screamed my name in ecstasy EVERY time we fucked and believe me it was all the time. You are just a second choice, and you will never get what I had, you’ll always be my sloppy seconds.” She laid back down against her pillow satisfied with herself. I shook my head.“It never occurred to me just how pathetic you are until just now Amy.You have the audacity to feel victorious in taking someone else’s mate while having your own, but let’s see just how this really turned out.Yes you fucked my mate for years, BUT you had to drug him all the time; and yet, he never marked you or came inside of yo
Chapter 30We were sitting in Gael’s office looking over the maps that covered that territory and then locking down when we were heading over there.Lance and Ron were strategizing where we would position our warriors and how this mission would unfold. I had an idea I was toying with in my head, but I needed to do it alone.“Hey guys I’ll be back in a few.”“Ok I’ll come with.” Gael stood to follow me out.“No babe, give me a minute and I’ll be right back, please.”I could tell it hurt his feelings a bit that I didn’t want him to follow me. I knew he felt the need to be close to me, but jeez there were things that I needed to do on my own and I knew he’d want to be right underneath me and I needed a clear head to continue.I made my way out the door still feeling a little bad for leaving Gael, but there was work that needed to be done. I was on my way to see Amy, hopefully for the last time.Making my way to the clinic, I couldn’t help having this feeling of dread as I knew war was com
Chapter 29I thought about all the times we’ve spent together and for the first time, I was upset I hadn’t locked the door to my office, because right now I needed to take care of myself, and there was no way I could get up from here and walk around normally.Just as I was about to try to handle myself Phoenix came through and she was stressed. I felt severe anxiety and fear and that’s all I needed.I jumped up and ran through the door and was out running top speed to her parent’s home. There was no way I would be stopped by anyone. As I made my way there, I decided to go directly to her room.I could see the window was cracked and Ronan scaled the wall like a ninja and the next thing I knew I was walking into her room, but she was standing in the doorway, in a towel, looking down the stairs. She turned around, and when she saw me I rushed her and held her in my arms.I told her that she has to tell me something, as the dull ache in my chest would not let go.She stared into my eyes an
Chapter 28I woke to mama’s homemade corned beef hash with eggs and grits mixed with cheese. I was about to get up when there was a heavy arm draped over my waist. I turned over in bed and saw Gael’s sleeping face. He is so fine, his handsome face seemed to be at peace. I touched his lips and watched them turn up into a smirk.“Good morning my Alpha, there’s a delicious breakfast waiting for us.”“Hmmm I smell it, it almost smells as good as you do.” I chuckled. At that moment mama mindlinked me and said, ‘You guys get up, hit the shower, please and come on down for breakfast………I know you need the nourishment.”Holy shit! Did mama know Gael was here all night? Why did I feel like that little school girl who had snuck her boyfriend in?All I could answer was, ‘Yes, ma’am.’I turned to look at Gael, who had a feeling about what just happened. He grabbed me and kissed me, and we got up to head to the shower.I had a hard time dodging Gael in the shower, but I didn’t need my mama and espe
Chapter 27Gael pulled two glasses and filled both full of scotch. Both of these huge Alphas are sitting down sipping and feeling the burn. I decided to step outside and get some air. My mind was reeling with everything that has happened over the course of 48 hours.I’m fully mated and marked to Gael; Sonya is back and is mated and is probably marking Ron. Sophia is mated and is probably marking my brother Lance; and on top of all that, Kyle just revealed that he’s always loved and wanted me to be his.I still have to deal with this stupid Alpha Walters and whatever that voice was, who evidently knows who and what I am.My head was spinning with strategies and conspiracy theories, and I needed a break. I made my way to the lake to just try to catch a break and a breath. When I arrived at the lake I was just about ready to sit Indian style, when I heard it; grunts and moans and instantly I knew who it was. I hastily stood back up and ran back to my parents home. I burst into the front
