The next day, Dorin was surprised to wake up alone in bed. He looked for Seb and decided he was in the toilet. It was only 5 am. He left Seb’s room and went to his own. He looked at the burned bed once again and gave a sigh.
Calling on the wind, he collected the charred remains of the bed, every dust and speck, and turned it into a ball. At first it was the size of a coffee table, then he pushed. He applied pressure and compacted the remains until it was the size of a book. He then separated it to small clumps of coal and pilled it in a corner for later use.
He left his room, taking clean clothes and a towel. Outside, he saw Seb coming from the direction of his bedroom. He was wearing the same black cloak he wore when they brought Azra to be registered, and like before, Azra was perched on his shoulder, waiting for him to pull the hood up.
“Good morning.” Dorin called to Seb, “Will you be going to the wake this early?” he aske
Professor Dupont led them towards the woods. There was a small clearing past an orchard near the tumbled down wall that separated the main University grounds from the Dark forest. By the wall was a flanking tower, leaning a bit to one side, but still standing and could be entered through a partly hidden archway. The stairway was long gone and the roof was non-existent but the inside of the tower itself still looked sturdy and well kept. “We can talk here.” Dupont faced the rest of his companions. “This sure brings back memories...” said Althea. “I used to hang out here with some friends when we were still students...” “The wind is strong here...” Dorin closed his eyes, faced towards the Dark woods and took a deep breath. “So, about that dragon...” Maj. Gen. Muller started, but Johan interrupted him. “First, can someone tell me who that over there is?” he said, pointing at a person beneath the shadows of the tilted tower. Only his
“You okay?” Dorin asked Sebastian as they left the tower. “I will be,” Seb replied. He looked at Dorin from under his hood. “Can you take me away?” he asked of him. “To somewhere quiet?” Dorin seemed to hesitate a bit, then, whistling into the air, he flew to the nearest tree – a birch, and broke off a long branch. He then flew back down to Seb and held the branch afloat with another tune. “Hop on and hold on tight,” he said. Sebastian did as he was told, holding on to Dorin’s back, as the branch glided into the air and gained height. He gasped as he almost slip and fell. Dorin kept the branch level and waited for him to get a better grip. Seb grabbed at his friend’s waist and slipped his arms across his abdomen. “Are you ready?” Dorin asked. He was answered by Seb knodding behind him. “Let’s see how far the University walls can get us.” They went past the crumbling wall. It looked like a winding snake from their height, extend
Dorin opened his eyes at the sound of hoofed feet. “Good afternoon, Horatio, Damien,” he called out to the two figures approaching from the other side of the forgotten wall. “Good afternoon, Dorin.” Damien answered back. He looked at Sebastian who lay fast asleep on the forest floor, his head on Dorin’s lap. “How is he fairing?” “He’s just... sad.” Dorin placed a hand on Seb’s head, stroking his silky black hair. “I think he needs more rest.” Damien got off the white horse he was riding and knelt before the two young mages. He had a flask with him which he handed to Dorin. “What is this?” Dorin asked. “It is a broth to quell sadness,” replied the groundskeeper. “It will help.” he placed a hand on Seb’s shoulder. Seb quivered, a large tear fell from his cheek. “He will be fine,” said Damien standing up. Sebastian stirred and opened his eyes. He looked up at Dorin, then at Damien. His eyes filled up with tears at the sight of the

The sun sets as another day ends in the prestigious campus of Aubrianne University. Three new friends walk the pathway towards the Magic Division’s Dormitory. Long shadows fall on them from trees that line the way, faded by the electric light from the lamp posts the university installed for the students’ added security. “Seb, remember what happened the last time we passed this way?” Dorin asked his sworn bother with a laugh as they went on their way. Sebastian didn’t seem to have heard him. He had his hood back over his head. It was shaped strangely, for a small white bird, a caladrius, was currently sleeping beneath it as it perched on his shoulder. “What?” their new aquaintance, Johan, asked curiously. “What happened?” He looked at his two companions as he held on to the sleeping dragon draped over his shoulder. “That was the time when we were jumped by those wizards from the Capital,” Dorin answered his own question. “They were wearing invisible cl
When Dorin and the rest finally got to the Dormitories, they were surprised to find a lot of students waiting for them. “Sebastian!” their dorm mate Nathan called out to them, “You’re finally here!” Seb stepped back as their friends made their way towards them, with the rest of the Dorm residents at the back. “Is it true?” Robert asked them, looking at Johan, then at Seb, “That you both have familiars now?” “Huh?” Johan sounded surprised. “It’s all over the campus!” Stephen said, “That you have a dragon familiar...” “And that Sebastian has a caladrius?!” continued Rylie. “Can we see them?” Robert asked, eyes beaming. The rest of the people behind them nodded their heads. [I’m afraid they are currently sleeping] was Seb’s reply. He slowly lifted his hood and showed them the two beasts sleeping on both sides of his shoulders. Whispered oohs and ahs filled the hallway. “A real dragon!” Marcus said in his de
“Vincent...” Professor Morell held the boy tight, his voice quivering. “I can’t believe it’s really you...” “Hey, you’re crushing me!” Vincent cried. Professor Morell finally let him go, staring at his face with such longing in his eyes. “Okay, mister, you’re really freaking me out here...” Vincent said with a frown. “Just who are you anyway?” “It’s me, your brother Randalle...” the professor said, to which he was answered with a snort. “Idiot!” Vincent jeered, “It’s true my brother Randalle is older than me by 12 years, but he’s not an old geezer like you!” The professor stared at him. He then pulled back his right sleeve and showed Vincent a birthmark shaped like a dagger. Vincent’s eyes widened. “You have been gone for almost 16 years.” he told the boy. “Of course, you don’t recognize me...” his voice broke. “But hey, I’m not even in my 40’s yet, so don’t call me old geezer!” he said playfully, touching the boy between the e
“So, where are Dagon and Azra?” Dorin asked as they went their way up to the top floor. [They flew off when the others made a fuss over them.] Seb wrote. [They’re probably back inside our room.] “Which reminds me...” Johan suddenly stops on mid step to face his companions. “Why is it so easy to enter our rooms from outside?” he asked. “Ah,” Dorin grinned, “You see, I kinda broke the seal on my bedroom window...” he said apologetically, “You see, I like to sleep with the window open...” “So, this time, it really is your fault!” Johan said with irritation. “Don’t worry, I’ll fix the spell as soon as we get back.” The three of them continued walking till they reached their room. Dorin stared at the camera by the staircase and waves at it. “Seems like it’s working fine now.” He grined as Seb took out his class card to open the door. “Haah... what a day...” Johan sighed as he sank into the sofa. Azra and Dagon came out to gr
