(Written this 19th day of March, 2022)
The sun sets as another day ends in the prestigious campus of Aubrianne University. Three new friends walk the pathway towards the Magic Division’s Dormitory. Long shadows fall on them from trees that line the way, faded by the electric light from the lamp posts the university installed for the students’ added security. “Seb, remember what happened the last time we passed this way?” Dorin asked his sworn bother with a laugh as they went on their way. Sebastian didn’t seem to have heard him. He had his hood back over his head. It was shaped strangely, for a small white bird, a caladrius, was currently sleeping beneath it as it perched on his shoulder. “What?” their new aquaintance, Johan, asked curiously. “What happened?” He looked at his two companions as he held on to the sleeping dragon draped over his shoulder. “That was the time when we were jumped by those wizards from the Capital,” Dorin answered his own question. “They were wearing invisible cl
When Dorin and the rest finally got to the Dormitories, they were surprised to find a lot of students waiting for them. “Sebastian!” their dorm mate Nathan called out to them, “You’re finally here!” Seb stepped back as their friends made their way towards them, with the rest of the Dorm residents at the back. “Is it true?” Robert asked them, looking at Johan, then at Seb, “That you both have familiars now?” “Huh?” Johan sounded surprised. “It’s all over the campus!” Stephen said, “That you have a dragon familiar...” “And that Sebastian has a caladrius?!” continued Rylie. “Can we see them?” Robert asked, eyes beaming. The rest of the people behind them nodded their heads. [I’m afraid they are currently sleeping] was Seb’s reply. He slowly lifted his hood and showed them the two beasts sleeping on both sides of his shoulders. Whispered oohs and ahs filled the hallway. “A real dragon!” Marcus said in his de
“Vincent...” Professor Morell held the boy tight, his voice quivering. “I can’t believe it’s really you...” “Hey, you’re crushing me!” Vincent cried. Professor Morell finally let him go, staring at his face with such longing in his eyes. “Okay, mister, you’re really freaking me out here...” Vincent said with a frown. “Just who are you anyway?” “It’s me, your brother Randalle...” the professor said, to which he was answered with a snort. “Idiot!” Vincent jeered, “It’s true my brother Randalle is older than me by 12 years, but he’s not an old geezer like you!” The professor stared at him. He then pulled back his right sleeve and showed Vincent a birthmark shaped like a dagger. Vincent’s eyes widened. “You have been gone for almost 16 years.” he told the boy. “Of course, you don’t recognize me...” his voice broke. “But hey, I’m not even in my 40’s yet, so don’t call me old geezer!” he said playfully, touching the boy between the e
“So, where are Dagon and Azra?” Dorin asked as they went their way up to the top floor. [They flew off when the others made a fuss over them.] Seb wrote. [They’re probably back inside our room.] “Which reminds me...” Johan suddenly stops on mid step to face his companions. “Why is it so easy to enter our rooms from outside?” he asked. “Ah,” Dorin grinned, “You see, I kinda broke the seal on my bedroom window...” he said apologetically, “You see, I like to sleep with the window open...” “So, this time, it really is your fault!” Johan said with irritation. “Don’t worry, I’ll fix the spell as soon as we get back.” The three of them continued walking till they reached their room. Dorin stared at the camera by the staircase and waves at it. “Seems like it’s working fine now.” He grined as Seb took out his class card to open the door. “Haah... what a day...” Johan sighed as he sank into the sofa. Azra and Dagon came out to gr
“Master Johan.” Johan stirred in his sleep. He had been dreaming about his mother. Of the small stifling room which smelled of old fish. Men would come at night, sometimes two, sometimes more, and ask of her. He would take them to the small room – just a small enclosure in the old abandoned shack they lived in. The walls, if you could call it that, was but an old tarpaulin they salvaged from one of the abandoned tunnels in the old mine. It was held up by two pieces of timber of varying height and nailed to the corner of the room. His mother always sends him to his gran whenever she had guests. There, he would listen to gran’s stories, and maybe get a bite to eat if they were lucky. She always had a way with words that somehow fills you up even if all you had for breakfast was half of last night’s stale dinner. When ever she told her stories, her golden eyes would shine in the darkness, and the lines in her face would seem to fade, as if revealing the princess
When Dorin woke up that morning, he was surprised to find two things. First was that Sebastian seems to be holding on to him. This was strange, since Seb hated being held on to while he slept. He even hates to be covered by blankets. He once woke up to a kick in the gut when he mistakenly thought he was hugging a pillow, but Seb doesn’t seem to remember anything when he wakes up. The second thing was that the sun was already up. Dorin always wakes up on time. Yes, he might be a bit hard to arouse while he sleeps, but once he sets himself to wake at a certain time, he was always sure to awaken at that said time. He stretched himself and looked at Seb who was partly hidden under a blanket. He noticed the arm then. Dark skin. Dorin leapt out of bed, pulling the blanket with him. He uncovered Vincent who groaned in his sleep. “What the hell is he doing here?!” Dorin mumbled to himself. He quickly went out the room a
When the group finally got to the mall, the first place they visited was the clothes store. They met Mar with a very timid Benette there. As promised, Dorin bought Johan 3 new shirts. Vincent went straight to a fashion boutique to buy his clothes and showed the sales person a signet ring etched with a black sun with an eye in the middle. The clerk bowed his head slightly and showed him the latest items in the store. “What’s that?” Johan asked while Vincent instructed the clerk to bill his brother from the University. “It’s the Morell seal,” he told Johan proudly. “Members of the main family always wear this wherever we go. I seem to have misplaced mine though,” he added, “so I borrowed my brother’s ring.” Vincent took three big bags full of clothes from the counter and thanked the clerk. He then took a separate bag from the rest and handed it to Johan. “Here, this is for lending me your shirt.” he said with a smile. Johan looked inside
“Where have you been?” Dorin asked Johan when he finally found his roommates. The sun was about to set and were about to leave the mall. “I ran into the third prince and his friends,” replied Johan. It took him quite some time to find his companions. Dorin had already bought a bedroll and Vincent’s bags seem to have tripled. “Really?” Dorin asked. “I haven’t seen them lately.” [Did they try to do something?] wrote Seb. “Seems to me this prince keeps trying to get close to you guys.” said Mar who was carrying two bags of her own. “What did they want?” “Nothing much, said they came back from the capital, something about a funeral and...” he suddenly stopped in his tracks and looked at Seb. “Oh... Oh I get it...” “Get what?” Dorin asked. “They were asking me if I knew the head Register,” Johan told him, his eyes still at Seb. “What did you tell them?” asked Mar as the rest stared at him. “That I didn’t know

It is true that it is hard to believe the words of a person who have betrayed you. But someone was ready to believe everything about Elazar, even if he was so against ‘her’ when she was still Eirian.[How I wish I had a chance to talk to Elazar before he disappeared!] Sebastian wrote to Dorin when they got back to the dorms one day. [If I only knew he was my ancestor, I would have asked him hundreds of questions about being a silver tongue!]“Question is, would he have answered your questions truthfully?” Johan said after reading his slate. “
News of a terrorist that infiltrated the University spread the next day. The name of the people involved and details of the actual event were withheld from the public due to security reasons, but almost all students in school already knew that it was about Dorin and his friend.“Wait, what was the name of his friend again?” they asked each other. “The real pretty one who had a different hair and eye color each day?”“I think it was Ariel?”“No, wasn’t it Ellen?”
Blinding light surrounded Eirian, as well as thick smoke as the lightning found it’s target.“Did we get her?!” asked Johan who stood on top of a raised dais made of bedrock. He raised himself just in time to evade Dorin’s lightning. “I... I think so...” said Xander who was trying to see through the dust and smoke.“Wind!” Venet called, blowing the smoke and debris away. “How annoying.” They saw Eirian climbing out of a thick glass bauble. “Are you really that vehement to stay here, Dorin?” “That’s right Eirian, and it’s not like I could leave, anyway,” replied Dorin. “Didn’t mother tell you that I can’t leave without graduating first?”“Psh,” she snorted. “That would be easy. I could just tell the Dean to give you a diploma. Problem solved. No need to wait for years just for senile old men to decide if you’re good enough to pass.”“I don’t want that, Eirian. I want to learn.” “I can teach you everything they know, and more.” “Yet you would only show me what you want me to see.”
“Fools! Do you honestly think that you could put one ever me?!” Eirian said with a haughty laugh. “On me, who have lived all these years without being commanded or controlled by any other being?! I have waited millennia just for this chance to come, and now that it’s here, do you really think I would just let insects like you foil my plans?” ‘What does she mean by that?’ thought Benette who held Dagon tightly in his arms. ‘Just who is she? And how old is she supposed to be?’“E-Eirian... you promised!” Dorin said as he crouched on the ground, trying to push himself
Johan gasped when Dagon fell unconscious in his arms, the remainder of a half eaten chocolate bar, falling to the ground. “What did you do to-” “Stop.” The force of command in Eirian’s voice made everyone’s body quiver. No one moved. No one could even breath. “You think a mere dragon child would be enough to stop me?” Eirian said with amused laughter. “Now listen to me,” she said, only then did the people around her take a gasp of breath. “No one tells me what to do. I give all the commands here, and you will simply o-” She was surprised when Johan suddenly struck his hand out towards her. She tried to jump back, but wasn’t quick enough. The fire mage quickly grabbed her mouth and covered it with a rough, calloused hand. “Got you, you bitch,” he snarled with Dagon dangling on his left arm, still sleeping. “You think your tricks can work on me? I’m used to dealing with double crossing bastards like you, and I’ve got experience!” He looked back as someone touched his shoul
Benette concentrated on the quivering body in front of him. He knew that as long as there was still warmth, as long as there was a spark of life in the cells within a body, that he could spread that life to create something new. When he was younger, he didn’t know how to heal, he simply knew that a living thing should live, and so wished it. It was so simple and obvious that he just knew that is should be. Just like how the lungs keep on breathing and the stomach digesting and the heart beating. Now that he is older and more knowledgeable of the parts and functions of a living organism
The first time Patrice Francoise Benette used his healing powers was when he was four years old.Coming from a strict, military family, his parents both demanded absolute obedience to rules and utmost respect to the highest authority, which was his father. As soon as he learned to talk, he was taught to call the Benette patriarch ‘Sir’, and told to act accordingly in a disciplined manner. Toys were limited to practical educational materials.
Chapter 112- I Admit Defeat ‘Is that the best you can do?’ Mordecai’s voice taunted Dorin in his mind. ‘I’ve already seen all your attacks, may it be wind, water, fire, earth, and lightning. So what else can you do?’ Dorin didn’t answer. He tried his best to chase and hit the medic, but none of his attacks can seem to touch him. He wanted to release everything, drown in the power of his lightning as before... ‘As before?’ His opponent was a powerful mage from the capital, He didn’t need to worry about holding back or a possible overkill. He can just have some fun again. ‘Again?’ He looked up at the sky and called to the darkness, calling pillars of thunder down upon Mordecai. Still, the attacks didn’t work. ‘Still not good enough.’ Mordecai laughed inside his head. ‘Useless. Should I proclaim myself as the winner now?’ Dorin’s eyes shone golden. He no longer cared what happened before or here after. ‘Not yet.’ he entered Mordecai’s mind. And he had a feeling as well that
