Chapter 8

“Jasper, you treat me really well…” Victoria lowered her gaze, breathing a sigh of relief.

“Don’t be silly. Hurry up and go to sleep. I’ll stay right here with you.”

Victoria nodded. She wrote and sent out a text message while Jasper was not paying attention and anxiously kept her cell phone in her pocket.

“Summer…” In this familiar bedroom, Jasper had called out Summer’s name without being aware of it. He froze for a moment and furrowed his brows, a little annoyed.

“Jasper, were you calling me just now?” Victoria asked in a puzzled manner as she came out of the bathroom. She was clad in pyjamas.

“Yeah. I wanted to ask you if you’re feeling cold.” Victoria was really afraid of the cold. He had already asked the nanny to crank up the heater, but he was still worried that she would feel cold.

He was not worried about Summer, who was alone in the rented house. As well as being pregnant, Summer was sick and running a fever.

“Summer, the moment you give birth to the baby, you’ll be useless. You can go and die now.”

“Jaz, Jaz, no!”

Summer woke up suddenly and took a few deep breaths to inhale some fresh air.

She was having a nightmare.

Her entire body was numb as she glanced outside the window. It was morning.

The ground outside was covered in snow, and it was a beautiful sight to behold.

“Jaz…”

Summer figured that Jasper would show up soon. She was chilled to the bone and was running an extremely high fever. She could barely take it anymore.

She could hear the ticking of the antique clock mounted on the wall. Summer suppressed her desire to sleep and waited for the hours to pass.

It was noon already, and Jasper was not here yet.

“Haha…” Summer chuckled and covered her forehead with her hand.

What was she hoping for?

When had that person ever kept his words?

*Knock, knock.* Someone was knocking on the door.

Summer got up with a start. Her heart was beating rapidly, and she fell off the bed.

He was here...

“Jaz…” Summer’s fingers were frozen from the cold. She opened the door, and the chilly wind outside blew onto her face. The person standing outside was not Jasper.

“What the hell? Is this place even inhabitable?” Adrian said in disdain. He had asked his subordinates to look for a safe place where Summer would not be easily discovered. He could not believe that this was the place they had actually gotten.

Summer’s heart sank, and she looked like she was on the verge of collapsing.

“You…” Adrian froze for a moment and immediately carried Summer. “D-Don’t tell me that Jasper left you here to freeze for an entire night?”

Summer was feeling extremely dizzy. She felt an aversion toward Adrian and wanted to stay away from him but did not have the strength to do so.

“This is f*cking…” Adrian continued cursing, his voice low, and touched Summer’s forehead. “F*cking hell!”

The rented place was completely bare, and due to the crack in the window, it was not much warmer indoors compared to the outdoors. There was not even a blanket on the bed. How did this little thing manage to stay here all night?

At Central Hospital.

Summer did not regain consciousness for a long time. She could feel the presence of something warm beside her and was inching closer toward that source of warmth with all her might.

“The patient had been taking birth control pills, so it’s very possible that she might suffer a miscarriage. If steps to reduce the risk of miscarriage are not taken, she might not be able to keep this baby.”

“She’s in such a terrible state. I can’t believe that someone’s feet can get so badly cracked from the cold in this time and age. Wasn’t she wearing shoes?”

“I know right? Take a look at her hand. Such slender fingers, but they’re all swollen from the cold. Doesn’t anyone care about her?”

The nurses, who were standing beside the doctor, felt bad for Summer.

Summer opened her eyes a little and looked anxiously at the people before her.

“Don’t be afraid. We’re in the hospital. Doctor Seawind told us to take good care of you.” One of the young nurses quickly poured Summer a glass of warm water and passed it over to her with a smile. “Hurry up and drink some warm water. Are you hungry?”

Summer was at a loss of what to do. She grabbed the glass of water and carefully took a sip. She was so flustered that she resembled a deer in headlights.

“Yo, you’re quite a fighter, aren’t you? You can really survive no matter what the circumstances are, huh?” Adrian was holding Summer’s medical records and spoke in a playful tone as he entered the ward.

Summer put down the glass of water in fear and anxiously curled up at the foot of the bed. She stared vigilantly at Adrian.

“Are you that afraid of me?” When Adrian saw her like that, he felt like bullying Summer even more. He playfully reached out and tried to clutch her chin.

*Hiss!* Adrian sucked in a sharp breath and withdrew his hand in pain.

This little rabbit actually bit him!

“Don’t you want your baby anymore?” Adrian asked with a smile.

Summer panicked and looked nervously at Adrian. “My baby…”

“Your baby is fine, but you aren’t exactly in good health. You’ll have to take care of yourself to make sure that your baby remains safe.” Adrian raised his head to look at the transfusion bottle, and then at the transfusion needle that was attached to Summer’s wrist. “The needle has moved out of place. Aren’t you feeling any pain?”

Summer was not aware of that. She looked at the back of her hand, which was already swollen, with glassy eyes.

She did not feel any pain indeed...

“You’re seriously…” Adrian raised his head and sighed. He could not believe that Jasper actually had the heart to bully such a naive young woman.
